Love the enormous size, grilled, stuffed full of New York strip steak, basmati rice, cheese, and you can get sour cream among other add ins. The guy next to us had the chicken sandwich that looked every bit as good. The service was great, and the folks are very personable. It's a straightforward kind of place with good food and a friendly, family run environment. Can't wait to go back for the chicken or maybe the burger or maybe both. My brother was impressed by their friendly service. The food came relatively neatly packed and the burritos were wrapped in foil. So, they stayed warm. However, I could not peel and eat it like a traditional burrito. Unfortunately, , the food simply wasn't that enjoyable. I had the steak burrito grande burrito. First, this isn't truly a burrito. It is more of a wrap with a flat bread. The flat bread doesn't completely encompass the wrap either. So, halfway through, it pretty much starts to fall apart. There was very little beef. What steak that was there was hard and tough. I had guacamole added. They charge $2.75 for this. There was very little avocado. In the end, this turned into an almost inedible mess. Price (dinner for two - no drinks): $24.92 - I do not usually comment of price. For the most part, I include the price and allow folks to draw their own conclusions. This is especially true when I consider in the fact they were stingy with the meat and stingy with the avocado. The burritos are amazing. I've been meaning to try the burgers ever since we stumbled across this place a couple of years ago, but I can't convince myself to not get a burrito. On top of the amazing food, the atmosphere genuinely feels like you're hanging out with a bunch of your friends - every time we get in the car to leave we wind up talking about how great not just the food is, but how great of a time we had eating there - not in a cheap or overbearing "15 pieces of flair" way, but in a "I feel like we're regulars even though we only get to eat here every 4 or 5 months" way. Nick is always ultra friendly and welcoming, and the food is always delicious. We're not in Kirkland very often, but we make it a point to try to eat at Nick's whenever we are, and you absolutely should as well. read more

Note to self : do not do not do not get the naked burrito. I've seen a couple regulars get this crazy looking burrito salad thing in a takeout box rather than the usual wrap in a little red basket. I need to figure out what that is. But it's definitely not a naked burrito. A naked burrito ends up looking really sad and cold because it's not grilled afterwards. The rice ends up tasting stale and the cheese isn't melty. And it just looks sad all spread across the bowl when at least you bunch it together in a wrap it looks like it's got substance. I am so glad I came across this place. I was not expecting it, maybe because "nick's grill" doesn't scream place for good burritos? BUT! Maaaan. Very big fan of their burritos! I typically get the chicken burrito with mild salsa, sometimes add bacon. SO GOOD. MUST TRY. I love how each ingredient is its own texture and flavor. It's not all mushed and smothered by sour cream or guacamole, in fact they put none (maybe unless you ask? Idk? Doesn't need it! Lol). I work down the road from this joint and have been wanting to throw these guys and gals a bone after frequenting their establishment a few times. I won't lie, I like probably a few people, drove past it a couple times trying to figure out where GPS was leading me the first time. It is a nice little tucked away café on the back side of the building where the 7-11 is on the corner of 124th and 116th. Once I found it though, it was a pleasant experience. Kiki was manning his station as usual and I have grown to really enjoy his company. Especially when it is color commentary regarding whatever they got on the screen, Tarantino films especially. I haven't been versed in the tex-mex game, but they are a solid flavor experience. While I have heard that the burgers are the bomb, and I have only one experience with a pretty good Italian sandwich (pictured), most of my ventures to "Nick's" have been for their solid burritos. They are definitely packed to the brim and have a good kick (you get to pick the spice level) to them. For a family-owned mom+pop type café, it is what it is. Good ol' rustic Americana dining. We were second guessing going in because it looks a bit shady from the outside but glad we gave it a try. The guy (who I'm guessing is Nick) was really nice, recommended what was popular, and provided great service. I got the chicken burrito made spicy. The tortilla is grilled giving them burrito a crunchy texture which I enjoyed. The only reason that I wouldn't go here everyday is that it is pretty expensive for what it is. I went to Nick's Grill for the first time last week. They were friendly and helpful when it came to placing an order (to go). I got the chicken and beef burrito - grande, with a side of potato salad. The burrito was large and very filling. A normal person would of split it into two meals. Me being a pig I ate the whole thing in one sitting. I liked the basmati rice addition and the whole thing was very tasty. The potato salad was great! It didn't look like much when I opened the to go container but it sure made up for the looks in taste! The restaurant is small and there were definitely regulars in there eating when I stopped by. Nick's Grill is a good spot for a quick, divey, diner-style lunch with a little more flair than you're used to. The restaurant is stashed away in the corner of a strip mall just off I-405, easy to get to and with plenty of parking. The interior is small and cozy, but also feels a little run-down and divey. The restaurant smells a little musty, the chairs and stools are cracked and worn, the grill vents and backsplash are charred black and caked in smoke residue, and the vinyl surroundings and half-friendly-half-sassy attitude of the staff make you feel like you're in a rerun of Roseanne. It is interesting that the darkish interior and run-down furniture are in such sharp contrast to the bright colors of the fresh food being cooked. I was sitting at the counter, and the grill man who was working right in front of me didn't look at me or talk the whole time I was in the restaurant (even to his coworker). The counter lady was friendlier and chattier, but also didn't seem particularly warm. I looked through the Yelp reviews and decided to order the chicken burrito. When I asked whether that would be enough or whether other customers usually order additional side dishes, the counter lady just looked at me and shrugged. So I stuck with just the burrito. The burrito itself was much better than average. This burrito is not for people who prefer more subtle flavors, though! The rice inside was perfectly cooked basmati, which is an unusual choice for Mexican, but which added a ton of fragrance and exotic flavor. The seasoning was very, very strong, with tons of paprika, cumin, and ground chili pepper. Personally I loved it, but folks with more sensitive taste buds might think it's all a little too overpowering. The salsa was delicious and the chicken was pretty good, well-marinated and juicy. The tortilla was toasted but brittle, and crumbled and fell apart within a couple of bites. I guess the restaurant knows this happens because they provided a plastic fork with the meal. I think I probably ended up eating about half of the burrito fillings out of the bowl using the fork. The taste of the food was pretty good, and I loved being able to watch it all being cooked fresh right in front of me, but overall this place is about an average experience for lunch. I wouldn't travel all the way across town just to come back, but I'd definitely return here for a meal if I am already in the area. read more

The food is great. However I was upset because online it says it closes at 7:30, but it actually closed at 7 which I didn't know until they told me. I get there at 6:46 and they tell me that they can't serve me anymore. I was confused and said it's not even 7 yet, but they didn't care. There were 3 of them there so I don't understand that if the restaurant closes at 7 why they can't serve me at 6:46. I understand they're cleaning but as I said they there were 3 of them. I asked when do they stop taking orders and they said 6:45 which really made me upset because I literally came a minute after that. I asked does the minute really matter and he said yes. This place was on our Togo list forever and we finally made it here on a Thursday evening. There were a few people waiting to order and we were in 2 minds whether to leave or wait. The foodie in us made us wait and thank goodness we made that call. We ordered a grande chicken burrito and a vegetarian burrito spicy. The cook really took his time and meticulously made the order. Wait, how could anyone give this place five stars?! OK, first off, the food's not bad at Nick's. It's also nothing to write home about, either. Typical greasy spoon fare. With the Brown Bag Cafe right across the street doing it infinitely better, you can do tastier, a few feet away, for less money. The decor is kitch, and I liked that. But the decor was dirty dusty grimy kitch, and that's a crime. If you're going to decorate with classic movie posters, Mousekateer memorabilia, vinyl album covers, and Aperture Science stickers...you've got to treat them like idols in a shrine, not grease spattered dust-catchers. Cleanliness is really where Nick's loses it for me. The place needs the full Silkwood. There's even a broken window screen to let in vermin. The staff was super friendly, but no amount of charm can polish this nostalgic turd. Go across the street to Brown Bag Cafe, you'll be happier, and probably safer. read more

What can I say about Nick's? I've been a patron for about ten years now, and in a nutshell, their food is insanely delicious. Five stars just for the food, and the additional service, price, decor, etc. are simply bonus points. I usually get a grande steak or chicken burrito with all the fixins. They fix up the burrito with your meat, cheese, spanish-style rice, and a little black bean and corn salsa. Then it gets rolled up and grilled to perfection so that the tortilla is all warm and crispy. For my side dishes, I always get the potato salad and the rice. Yummy! Back in the day I used to get their steak sandwich all the time and it rocks too. But I've been so obsessed with their burritos in recent years, I must admit it's been too long since I've had one. Grilled onions, tomatoes, cheddar cheese and steak all grilled on a french roll... need I say more? Oh man, I gotta stop because I'm going to give myself withdrawals. Sidenotes... 1: The family that runs this place is awesome. 2: I usually get takeout because the seating is so minimal and the food tastes just as good, if not better, in the company of my couch and my TV. 3: When they aren't swamped, it can be kinda nice to eat in and enjoy their cool old-school decor or have a random chat with whichever family member(s) happen to be running the show that day. I have been wanting to try Nick's since reading the reviews here on Yelp. And, once again, Yelp has not let me down. Nick's is located right off of Totem Lake Blvd. It's kind of tucked away behind 7-11, across from Bel-Kirk Body Shop. Once you enter, you realize just what a small spot it really is! You can see the grill & watch them cooking up your food. There is a rail to sit at with a couple of stools and about three or four tables. Lots of various memorabilia covers the walls - fun stuff to look at while you are waiting for your food. The girl that took my order was really sweet & so happy! Customer service with a smile - I like that. What a great way to start out! I decided to order a regular spicy steak burrito, just because of all of the favorable reviews for it. I asked the girl taking the orders if it was really spicy, and she said that it was comparable to 3 stars at a Thai restaurant. I'm in. The burrito was quite large and delicious. You could tell that there was a lot of love put into making it. The steak bits were just the right size and there was a good amount of them in the burrito. There were perfect amounts of rice, beans, meat & sauce to party together in the tortilla. It was pretty hot, as I sat & sweat while eating it at my desk at work. This little spot makes a great burger. The tots are great too! I didn't see fries or tater tots on the menu (as I recall), but when I asked I found out they had both. There's not much seating and the bar is not very comfortable. You'll probably want to order to-go. The staff is friendly, but it seems like a place geared more for regulars.
