I've lived in the area for 4 years and had no idea Nick's Grill was down the street. I love Lil Grandma's Kitchen, which was sadly closed today and this was the next burrito spot close by. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. I ordered a breakfast burrito hoping for quality like Lil Gma. But the burrito was spendy for something burnt, greasy, way too salty, and lacked any other flavor but the salt. It would have been nice to be able to customize burritos more. I didn't finish it and walked away feeling 10lb heavier. I suggest making your breakfast burritos at home or finding a better place. This isn't it... perhaps other burritos were better. read more

We eat here a lot. We usually have the bacon burger and/or grilled ham and cheese. When I say cheese, I mean cheese, lots of cheese. The cheese gets burnt around the edges and is wonderful. I don't want to ignore the rest of the sandwich, which really makes it a grilled ham and cheese. They have fantastic burritos as well, and tons of other choices. Old man/owner was extremely rude. Called us inconsiderate for not wearing masks and kicked us out, when he was not wearing a mask himself. Could have went about it a completely different way, but was very disrespectful. Also, was wearing gloves that he was making food with, but proceeded to eat his own food with them on, touch dirty countertops, and went back to making food with the same gloves on. He even coughed multiple times without covering his mouth without a mask on. Also, as we were leaving, he came outside and smoked a cigarette with those same gloves on, and went back in and made more food. We were in town for the Little League World Series in August, and Nick's Grill was recommended by a friend. Doesn't look like much on the outside, but the burritos we had were amazing! Holy-shite to all you east-side foodies.... FORGET BROWN-Bag cafe!! Just look across the street for this little hole-in-the-wall gastronomic masterpiece!! Just had a delicious spot-on burrito (steak with avocado, rice, black beans, pico de gallo & a over-medium egg wrapped up in a fresh grilled tortilla). My wife ordered the daily special, the French dip which was so good she growled at me when I tried to taste it! All of the meat was fresh, tender and perfectly seasoned with every dish he served our table. I will be eating at Nicks Grill EVERY TIME I'm in Kirkland. SIMPLE FOOD DONE PERFECTLY!! The breakfast menu looks like it can crush any and all hangovers that you may encounter. There just aren't enough places like this that actually give a shit about using real ingredients and non-packaged foods for every menu item. Oh holy grail this was one of the best Steak Burrito I've ever had! The way he grills the fresh tortilla bread with the cheese and then adds everything was perfect! You can add to your burrito if you like. I got the regular size which was pretty fulfilling and added avocados yum! It's your friendly neighborhood grill, and the food is excellent. I have been to this place about five times, and it is really excellent. I mainly have ordered grande burritos, but at times I have deviated from this selection which includes items such as the salad....these other items are also excellent. I also hear that their chicken sandwich is really awesome, well actually I saw that it was awesome; I saw them making one and it looked really, really good. I will have to go back and try one. Anywho, I venture to say it's the best burritos on the Eastside, maybe even the Seattle area. Their quality ingredients and cooking methodology set them apart from the others. Here's a little poem. So freaking good. Came in with my toddler for a quick sandwich - I've never noticed Nick's before which makes me feel pretty silly since I've lived in this area on and off for 20 years. It's hard to get a sandwich that doesn't taste at least similar to all the other sandwich places around here. Nick's was not that way, the meats tasted very fresh and you could distinctly tell the difference in the flavors with every bite (ham, salami, and turkey), the cheese was melted and gooey but still stayed in the sandwich and not on my lap, the tomatoes were nice and firm, perfectly ripe! I think the dressing for the Italian was homemade it was so good!!! Nice little side salad and potato salad with it and here was no way I could finish, I love getting two meals out of a $12 meal!! Can't wait to try everything on the menu, the burritos look killer! Meh, the burrito is definitely overrated. I ordered a grande steak burrito add sour cream and avocado, total came out to a bit over $21, plus tip. I was really hoping it would be great, but to be honest it was a rather greasy and not very flavorful. I kept seeing reviews that this was people's favorite burrito around, but I much prefer my usual steak burrito at Corazon Azteca on 85th. I have lived mere blocks away from this gem for six years. Why did I wait so long to try it out!!?? Big mistake. I ordered the chicken sandwich with potato salad and green salad. The sides were simple yet delicious. I loved the savory potato salad (which is usually not my favorite) and the green salad was so yummy I could not stop eating it. Just a nice vinaigrette and seasoning with tomatoes on top. The star of the show was the chicken sandwich which was hot and melty with juice that ran down my arm. There were big bites of melted cheese that had been on the grill and nice chicken breast pieces topped with fresh tomato. The service was fast and super friendly. Nick's Grill was an amazing experience - and I didn't even dine in! My spouse and I were on our way to Chateau St. Michelle for a our first picnic of the season. We were running late that morning, so I didn't have time to go to the store, so we decided to get food on the way to our winery and we swooped into Nick's Grill since it was right off the 405. Boy, was it the best decision we ever made. From the family friendly environment, the folks working there knowing everyone's name coming, to just the overall kindness was icing on the cake. I'm from the south, and it felt like home. The individual taking our order overheard we were going to have a picnic and split our food, and when we picked up our order, he asked if we were around here and we explained our adventure for the day. He was like well, I overheard y'all and packed up your food separately so you could share :) also, are y'all new here? I've never seen your faces! Please take some water with you to stay hydrated during your fun day of wine tasting! I absolutely love this place. It does everything well that it needs to do, and it has a lot of individual quirks that make it a place you love instead of just a place that's good to grab a bite. That said, it's a no-frills joint right down to the ground, so go in with the mindset of finding good food at a great value. It's in an older strip mall in Kirkland, with modest signage. It's right off 405 though. You walk in and it's three tables and a snapple cooler. But if you look closely, you start to see what makes this place entirely its own. The tables are vintage; cool brightly-colored 50s and early 60s relics with matching chairs. There are framed cowboy posters on the wall, and lots of community-minded signage and family memento-type stuff on the opposite wall. A guy named Nick really does own the joint, and his kids work most of the shifts here. Nothing about the decoration has any direct impact on your meal, but everything here is here because the family likes having it. You get the same vibe from the way they treat customers. They talk to regulars like they're old friends, and they great newbs with courtesy, grace, and enthusiasm. Some people just need to work in a business like this, and that makes this place feel like it needed to happen. What really matters, though, is the food. 60% of the floor space here is pantry and kitchen. Yeah, they do a metric ton of to-go orders. That seems to be the heart of their business, actually. They call themselves a Kirkland original, and it seems like every two minutes somebody's walking in for another bag of burritos they've all had hundreds of times. Anyway, the food. First and foremost, they toast the tortillas on the flattop before they assemble the burritos. This should be a given, but, unfortunately, you can't count on it everywhere you go. You can order the basic varieties of meats as a filling, you can super size it, you can call a spice level. You'll get fresh chopped vegetables, perfectly cooked rice, and delicious protein in whatever you order. The steak burrito seemed to be made with some kind of spicy bbq sauce, tangy and a little peppery. It was delicious. If you're dining in, the burritos come out in little plastic trays with checkerboard waxed paper. They're wrapped ultra-snug in tinfoil, and when you first pick them up, they feel like steel bars. They're so tightly packed and the tortillas are so evenly toasted that they feel hard to squish. This bodes well. You unwrap a little as you go and eat carefully, and you still end up needing the fork they gave you, because you can't leave any scraps. Tastes too good. With a pop, it was about $10 for a regular size burrito. Not the cheapest burrito by any means, but healthfully made, and more than enough food. Compared to other food made this well, it's a screaming deal. I'll definitely be checking out the sandwiches and stuff on return trips. JUST came from there... like literally - 10 minutes ago. Seriously awesome food. It's a pretty limited menu, but what they do - they do it right. Nothing tasted old or processed or anything. Very fresh and grilled to perfection. I also loved that the cook knew virtually every person who came in the door by name. Good practice. Note: this place is TINY. There are 3 tables and a bar that seats about 8-10 people. The decor is fun and kitchy and the atmosphere is very laid-back and casual bordering dive. But you've got to go to a place with a giant He-Man Masters of the Universe wall hanging above the cash register. I have the power!!!!!!!!!! read more

I. Love. Nick's. Absolutely wonderful - quite possibly my favorite place in Kirkland (and the rest of the Eastside). Don't expect a "fancy" dining experience. No cloth napkins or fancy silverware here. Just damn good food. Sure, there's not a lot of space to sit, but when food is this good, who cares? And yes, it's pricey, and I'm the first to complain about pricey, but seriously, when you get what you pay for and then some, you just can't complain. I usually order the regular veggie burrito w/ avocado and a side of potato salad. I don't think I've mentioned that I HATE potato salad, and I have no idea what they put in theirs that makes it sooo incredibly good, but Nick's potato salad is the ONLY kind I eat and love. I've also tried the turkey w/ avocado and the pasta salad - very yummy. And the service is great - I'm always amazed when we sit in there and eat how many people come in and are known by name by the person behind the counter working that day. It's awesome! They even know my hubby's name he's gone in so frequently - not too many places can boast of such personal service. I am so glad I found this place! It was a weekday, my kids were out of school and had been bickering all morning. We were not having the best of days, and nobody could decide or agree on what to eat. I got fed up and told them I would just go to the first place I saw and when I turned my head to the left, there was Nick's Grill... so I parked, got out of the car, and went in expecting my kids to follow me. Eventually they did... reluctantly. The nice guy behind the counter saw that we were all undecided and started chatting with my son about their menu... He convinced my son to get a burrito and my daughter decided on the burger with fixings which is rare for her. Their food is not something I normally go for but if I am feeling hungry or hangry, Nick's is now at the top of my list. Don't make the mistake I made on my first visit and try to go light... I ordered a modified version of their salad and it was ok, fresh and everything, but if you are there you should really order one of their awesome sandwiches, the burger, or any of the burritos. Their food is yummy and the portions are really big so you get a lot of bang for your buck. Most of the clientele I see there are guys who work nearby, and they have a couple police officer clients that are regulars. I don't want to stereotype, but.... more often than not, guys eat larger portions than girls... you get my point. My kids loved it too! I don't really know why, but suddenly everyone in my office got a wild hare up their ass to go eat at this place. People kept streaming into my office looking like they'd just eaten back to back family barbecues after smoking a bong and downing half a keg... that goofy half lidded contented look. "Go check out Nick's" they said, before collapsing at their desks. I work in Woodinville, so Kirkland is an easy shot on my hour lunch break. I like the place. The two dudes working the counter (one was Nick) are funny as hell and very hospitable. There were obviously a lot of regulars in the joint, though it's not very big (probably seats 20 tops, and it was getting close to that). It has a nice convivial mom and pop atmosphere with a bunch of blue collar guys shooting the shit while scarfing down some huge burritos while watching ESPN on the flat screens. And HUGE they are. I had a regular chicken burrito (spicy). I love spicy food, and this was decently spicy, but not ridiculous. It was plenty large, and the "grande" sized ones are literally the size of your forearm from the wrist to elbow. I can eat, and I doubt I'd be able to finish one of those. A great array of sodas. Any place that serves Mexican Coke gets high marks on my list. But overall, while I liked the food, it wasn't anything special. It's huge, and I like grilled burritos (with crispy tortillas), so it was good, but it was pretty much what you'd expect from a decent lunch rush deli. I'd recommend it if you're in the area, as it's certainly better than any lame chain joints. Holy crap this place makes some slamming food. It's one of those joints that really doesn't have much on their menu, but what they do by god they do it well. Nick's has really put me in the predicament of wondering which I like better... Burritos or sandwiches? I have had the steak burrito, steak sandwich, and chicken burrito. All were amazing and have huge pieces of meat. With the sandwich it felt like biting in to a full steak, not just chopped up bits. The same goes for the chicken, large whole pieces of breast. The tortillas on the burritos are grilled to crispy perfection, giving it amazing texture. I am the first one to bitch about expensive prices (to the point where it can affect my rating) but for some reason I'm still willing to give it 5 stars and show up again the following week. Yes it is that good. For one regular sized burrito, one sandwich and a soda was like $21 so you can be the judge on whether or not that is expensive. As we rolled in to the parking lot of the Brown Bag Cafe we could see that the line was long. Normally we'd wait because the food is totally worth it, but today we were short on time. So as I'm getting ready to pull back on to 116th I see Nick's across the street, and I remember browsing Yelp the other day and seeing good reviews for it. Why not, right? We really liked it, as most reviewers have. We had two vegetarian burritos, two sides and a root beer. The burritos were good; we both liked that they crisp the tortilla a bit before wrapping them up. The potato and green salads were also great. The total bill was $21. The thing that makes Nick's work is, well, Nick. He's Armenian-born but emigrated to Washington by way of LA. He raised his kids here, and when they got to high school he figured they needed a place to hang out, so he opened the restaurant right above the warehouse he owned. Eventually he handed it over to his son, who runs it today. I learned this all in the span of our visit today, btw. Nick has a wicked load of personality, so if you're shy I can see how he could rub you the wrong way. If you piss him off he'll throw you out. But he seems like an honest guy too, and that's to be respected, no matter which side of the counter a person stands on. So go to Nick's expecting to take a bit of crap if you ask him to substitute something. There are no specials, so don't ask. Have a thick skin and dish it back at him. Went in to Nick's today for a NY Steak Burrito with avocado and sour cream. Yum! What I loved: crispy grilled tortilla, great flavor to the steak, everything tasted fresh, and homemade salsa -- all resulting in a really tasty burrito in an unlikely location. What I didn't love: the "spicy" salsa registered as more of a "mild" on my spice scale. I'm not a heat fiend, but when I go for the hottest option I usually am looking for just a little bit of hurt, and didn't really get that here. Also, this doesn't fit into a "pro" or a "con" category, but I'm a little shy and wasn't quite sure what to make of the extremely gregarious personality (I assume Nick's son?) behind the counter since it was my first time in. As far as atmosphere goes, this definitely seems like a place where the guys go to banter and talk sports, which puts me at a disadvantage because I'm a quiet nerd. ;) It's not necessarily a bad thing, I just think it'll take a few more visits to warm up to the atmosphere. read more
