I had this place bookmarked for a few months, so I was excited to check the place out. We went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Walking in, it has a dive bar type ambiance that we typically like. We went to go pick a table and many of the chairs have "mystery" stains. Gross. There was definitely an interesting character there that was walking around. My husband ordered a Dr. Pepper that was absolutely NOT Dr. Pepper. It was more like a watered down cherry coke. I ordered a burger and garlic mashed potatoes. The burger was okay, nothing special, and the mashed potatoes were not seasoned well. Very bland. The service was pretty good and the prices are reasonable, but overall we were disappointed and will not be back. read more

The cheesy goodness of pizza at Nick's Place is worth a drive out from the Inner Loop (or a delivery order, of course). I don't think I've ever had pizza with as much cheese as this dive bar heaps on, and I'm not complaining one bit. Wings were pretty good too. The bar itself may seem a little skeevy at first glance, but I never felt uncomfortable or unwelcome in this laid-back hole-in-the-wall. Great vibe dive bar. Local neighborhood bar with good beer and great food. Stuffed mushrooms are off the hook. On the recommendation of Jason, I ordered the cheese steak and had it Philly style ( with cheese whiz). It was the best cheese steak I've had outside of Philly! It has plenty of TVs to watch sports with indoor and outdoor seating. If you are in Houston and missing your favorite neighborhood bar with great food, you'll want to stop in at Nick's! Service was sub par on a Monday night. took 15 mins plus to finally get the menu. We ordered philly cheese steak, which tasted pretty good. Spicyslaw is really good. Probably one of the best coleslaw I have ever tried with little twist in its recipes. The down side is that it only comes with onions, and + 50cents for jalapenos, 75 cents for mushroom, another 75 cents for peppers. read more

Cheap drinks and cheap food! We ordered the Mac n Cheese with salad and a calzone. Mac n cheese is sooooooooo good! You can add meat or veggies but we just had it plain. Came here with a friend months ago and could not remember the name...just that the pizza was amazing. Finally found the name on a top 15 list for deep dish pizza. It's not the fanciest place...that might be a little generous...the place looks pretty bad lol. Maybe a typical old bar. Dark, dingy, but a decent spot if you just want pizza and a drink with friends. I guess that's saying a lot that the food was so good I don't care what the place looks like. The menu was HUGE for a bar, the pizza we ordered was really delicious, the Happy Hour specials were very good, and all the staff that works there was chillin on the back patio, having a great time and being really friendly. Asking questions only led to being cut off to demand the order be over $21 in which I already knew just trying to verify if what I wanted was accurate. Then I got a $20 burnt nasty pizza. After visiting Nick's for weekend brunch weekly for about 6 weeks, I am totally impressed. Every dish we've tried (estimate about 10 different dishes) has been exceptional. Great portions, great quality. They even order their Philly bread from Philly! I'm moving out of the area this week and Nick's is the thing I'm super disappointed about leaving! We were staying in a hotel not far and wanted pizza. Stopped in Nicks, food was great beer was cold and there were a lot of sports on.

Went there yesterday to watch UFC fight, Cormier vs Johnson, staff was ok, we did not know who our waitstaff was, there was hardly any people there to watch the fight, we got charged 5 bucks to get in, there was 8 people to our party, place seemed different with nick not being there, staff was not on it like they usually are, our friend asked for extra ranch and it took wait staff 10 to 15 minutes to bring it to him, by the time it was brought out he did not need it anymore, place just seemed not well ran, plus when it came time for us to pay, credit card machine was down, so we left, signed our bill and got charged later that night, that has never happened to us before. read more

I live very near to Nick's. Its an okay place. They have a plethora of TVs to watch whatever sport and are mostly pretty helpful in playing the game you want to see. I've come here with my boyfriend 7-10 times in just the past year. The beer on tap is hardly ever cold. Tough cookies for my boyfriend because he always wants a Shiner Bock from the tap. I only drink when there is a certain lady there. She's middle aged, with dark hair. She makes me the most perfect margarita on the rocks. Other bartenders tend to overpour and the result is an overly intense drink that I'm not likely to drink. She's usually there in the afternoons, but if I go in to drink and don't see her, I'll usually walk out. The other bartenders are cold and uninviting, preoccupied with their regulars. I understand that being in the industry, myself. Except, how are you supposed to gain new regulars when you are too busy ignoring everyone else off the basis of not knowing if they tip decently..? Counterproductive in my opinion. I've never been 'greeted' but we usually find a seat at the bar, and wait about 5-10 minutes till somebody notices and asks us what we want. Its a small, cozy place. You can definitely tell upon entering, who the regulars are. The attentiveness shown to them is very clear. It doesn't bother me though lol. I just want a good, cold drink and for you to be in the vicinity if I have a question or need another drink. Now, their food. So good. Nick's has the BEST PIZZA IN HOUSTON. HANDS DOWN. If you haven't tried it, you haven't lived. I usually order to go, even though I would love to come sit, drink a cold beer and watch the game but they have failed me in that aspect. Still tastes just as great in my living room, thank goodness. 3 stars because I wish your bartenders, and staff were a bit more friendly and attentive. But I'll be back for some pizza lol read more

Nick's Place is one hell of a bar. It may not look like much on the outside or the inside, but who really cares about stuff like that anyways. One thing that stands out is that they truly have more TVs than you can shake a stick at. Quite a few of them are older TVs that are stacked up in banks along the walls, but they have some nice flat screen HD TVs as well. The food here is excellent. They have a sampler platter that's awesome and they have a sausage and pepper dish that is equally good. I don't think I've had anything in here that wasn't at least decent if not exceptionally good. The service is good, and the waitstaff is friendly and eccentric, but if you start giving them shit, they'll toss it right back at you which I like. My favorite thing about Nick's is people watching. This place has some characters to help make the place lively and spontaneous. One thing that has endeared me to this place was that they were pretty much one of the very few places in town open after Ike came through and wiped out everybody's power. They were serving icy beer and grilling up hot food. It was a nice escape for a few hours. The only downside that I can think of, is that the parking fills up pretty quickly and I wish the drinks were a little cheaper, but that's just the way it is inside town. If you want to hang out with douchebags, go to Washington Ave. If you want to have fun, go to Nicks. read more
