Just had breakfast here. Service was fastish, food was good, our waitress seemed a bit judgmental I think because my girlfriend is 22 years younger than me. I asked for avocado in my omelet and the waitress said she didn't know what that was. REALLY? It was bad. Really bad. I was hoping that despite the hole in the wall feel the food would be good as it was pretty pricey. But no. I had the crab cakes which were greasy, salty, yet tasteless. My dad got the seafood combo with crab, shrimp, and lobster. A small bowl of over cooked seafood in a puddle of grease. The next morning we both remarked how thankful we were that we didn't get sick. I'm pretty torn between 3 and 4 stars on this one. We came here on a Tuesday for the $14 all you can eat flounder. First the cons. I didn't actually enjoy eating the flounder. It's possible that's because I tried to eat 4 of them to get my money's worth. But I think it has more to do the fact that it lacked flavor. I certainly had the option to add salt on my own but as it comes out, it is really bland. I also prefer my fish and chips to be flakier. But these are pretty minor gripes. Now the pros. It's freaking all you can eat flounder. And the flounders are huge. The service is good and by good, I mean prompt. They don't talk to you like you're royalty or anything but the food comes out quick and they stop by a lot with water. Everything tastes freshly fried. And even though I didn't really like the flounder, the sides were phenomenal - fries, hush puppies, slaw. I could've eaten the hush puppies alone for my meal. I definitely plan on coming back to tried some of their other items. All in all, I think this place is pretty underrated with it's current 3.5 star rating. read more

Ate here with the family on a suggestion from a life-long VA Beach resident. The moment we walked-in we were greeted warmly and that continued throughout the service. Ordered Broiled Lump Crab in butter with two sides and it was unbelievable. Everyone enjoyed the entire meal and I must say this place is a hidden gem. The food and service were fantastic. It's not fancy or in the heart of the strip, but worth going off the beaten path.

Told about Nick's by a older local gent. He recommended the all you can eat Tues night fried flounder. Light as air batter crispy and sweet freshly caught fish, best ever. Raw oysters cold and briny, a dz for under $10. Def worth it. Very casual and comfy for a family meal. read more

The name of the restaurant is Nick's Raw Bar. On the window they mention different types of fish. They had very little fish when we were there for lunch. Most of the items were deep fried. My fried shrimp were small, hard and appeared to come out of a bag, definitely nowhere near fresh. My husband said his fried oysters were ok. The service seemed sorry to be there at best. Our beers were cold , two stars for that and the somewhat good fried oysters. They need to change their name if they want to be a diner. We were disappointed. read more

Don't be mislead by my 3 stars. The food was fabulous. My sister got the rockfish and crab, my other sister got the flounder and crabmeat and I got the shrimp, scallops and crabmeat. Not the best choice for dinner. Wine choice was terrible waitress had attitude and catfish didn't taste fresh and was under seasoned and under cooked. I went to Nick's last night. They are gluten free friendly. We went on the recommendation of our hotel clerk who said she took her cousin, who is gluten intolerant there. My daughter ordered a broiled seafood platter and the waitress was extremely conscientious of making sure my daughter's food had no gluten. The quality of seafood we had was much better than other resort area seafood places I've been in Va Beach. read more

We've finally given up on Nick's. Our first two visits were a great combination of friendly service, tasty food at a good value and a place with an interesting vibe. However, during each of our last four visits we have had the same waitress and she has been extremely rude each time. We were, at first, willing to look the other way, because everyone is entitled to a bad day and the food was still good. Well, today we went in for breakfast and got the same waitress who was still as rude as could be. Then the meal arrived and to say the meals were a disappointment would be an understatement. The double order of home fries didn't even look big enough to constitute a single order and looked nothing like the tasty potatoes we've had there before. Today's vibe included a drunk woman yelling at her partner and this was at 9:30 AM. Sorry Nick's- we gave it a shot and tried to be patient, but no more. I hope others that try Nick's have the same good time we had on our first visits. read more

Very disappointed!!! I had the Fried Flounder dinner. It tasted watery. How can we be this close to the ocean and served frozen flounder. My husband has the blackened broiled dinner. He order the Tuna medium rare. It came to the table as tough as leather. The shrimp and scallops were watery as well. The staff stood close by in a very dirty kitchen talking about their personal business. While questionable language does not offend me........ This type of environment and two frozen dinners does not warrant 45 dollars. I'm sure breakfast is great.......I'd think twice about lunch or dinner. read more

I would have given 5 stars for the food, because the crab cake sandwich and trout sandwich were excellent. However, I felt like there should have been a sign on the door that said "Coloreds round back." The waitress or owner was not very friendly. First I stood there for a while because i wasn't going to eat in, I wanted a to go menu so my husband could look at in the car. I was stared at and ignored for a while and then told to seat myself. I asked for a to go menu and was told they were all the same(??)...so I had to explain why I wanted a paper menu. So we decide to order, because we were hungry. I asked if they had a fried trout sandwich and she replied, "If its up there, (pointing to handwritten white board), then we have it." Okay, but the board said fried trout, not fried trout sandwich. So I ordered the fried trout from the white board. When I asked for letuce and tomato, she stated that's not a sandwich.. Serioiusly! "We have a Fillet of Fish sandwich and that's trout." Okay I'll take that. Service was very fast. When she was ready for payment, she "laid" my receipt down and I "handed" her my mastercard. The waitress replied, "Hmph.this is cute!"
