I was surprised with a dinner reservation here while in Austin on a birthday trip. From the moment we were greeted by the host at the front to the moment we walked back on the elevator, our experience here was absolutely wonderful. The ambiance was perfect for a Thursday evening date night. The lighting was moody, music was low and it was closer to empty, than packed - which is my preference. Our waiter, Trenton, was just a gem; from his sparkling personality to his wealth and knowledge around menu items. He recommended the octopus and, based on its appearance we were skeptical. One bite, melted in our mouths. We also had the tuna tartare and the flash fried crispy puffs of deliciousness paired perfectly with the tartare and the aioli beneath it. My entree was truffle risotto to which I added scallops. The scallops were browned on top and melted like butter the second they hit my tastebuds. From texture to taste everything was sublime. The dessert was essentially a deconstructed tiramisu. The cookie was lil too hard for me but with Trenton's recommendation for some espresso & oat milk softened it right up. The other components of the dessert were light and scrumptious, which was the perfect way to end dinner. Trenton was a complete treasure! He listened to our concerns about the menu and made recommendations accordingly, not an "ooh get this most expensive item on the menu" style. His demeanor and bright spirit was so genuine and warm. The rumors are true, the views are unbeatable (and still nice inside)! Although not perfect for my first time here, there were a lot of good parts. Pros: - Complimentary valet, must get validated - Easy elevator to ride to without crossing foot traffic in the Loren - Lovely interior and the exterior is great for views - Easy to get a reservation if you're not picky where to sit - Cocktail lounge to wait in - House rolls are to DIE for! So simple yet my favorite part of the meal. Trust me when I say this is the carb to get on the menu. - Good wine list and dessert list! Always a fan of a crème brûlée. - Great menu for sharing family style. - Service was perfect, zero complaints. Someone even high-fived my partner when he raised his hand to inquire where the restrooms were (haha). Most of the food I got was good and I had no complaints. The Orchard Sidecar was also a great opening cocktail. But there were definitely cons I couldn't ignore. Cons: - I didn't care for where I sat, but getting an outdoor reservation is not a fight I want to participate in. - It was still about a 10 minute wait for my table, and the lounge is a bit awkward to find a spot. - The restrooms are so terribly weird. It's a room.... With a sink station... and then individual rooms in that room with their own toilet and sink? Also no indicators to tell if a stall/room is occupied until you commit to a full turn of a knob. It's just weird. - I enjoy duck but not when it's so raw that I couldn't cut it much with my sharp poultry/steak style knife. I like an agreeable reddish pink, but it was a chewy mess. Good jus, but the duck itself was a jaw workout. Only half was that raw, but it was unfortunately my half! Sucks, but I still ate it because mama ain't raise no quitter. - My second cocktail (with Campari) was so strong that it tasted like college. I enjoy a Negroni and Campari drinks, but their drink was terribly balanced compared to their first one. There were multiple bartenders, so I refuse to believe the same person made my drinks. Overall, I would still go again. There are enough pros to outweigh the cons, but I would try a different main course for sure. read more

3 star rating, but a generous 3 star only based off the aesthetics. I'll start off with the positive reviews. The ambience of the restaurant is very upscale. Great selection of cocktails, and variety of menu selections. Located in the Loren Hotel in Austin there's a beautiful view of the city that also offers a roof top deck. Now on to the food. Although we enjoyed our oysters, and our scallops, the price you pay for the portions you get are overpriced. At nearly $5 an oyster and $39 for 3 sea scallops (and I'm from Seattle so used to paying for quality/sushi grade seafood ) are definitely not worth the price. Our octopus came out paper thin (carpaccio yes) but just a very odd way to serve octopus, and the it came out way too salty. Again, definitely not worth the cost that they're priced at for the portion you receive. The cocktails looked interesting in flavor, but we're just about average at best in execution of presentation and flavors. An instagram worthy restaurant, but nothing beyond that. The only issue would be that they recommend ordering everything at once, there was about 35-40 minutes between the appetizers and receiving the pasta dish which was a little disappointing but overall its a nice novelty place! The food was excellent and the waitstaff provided great service but I had a terrible experience with the valet. Apparently the valet guys had a little side hustle going on and were selling parking spots to people who were there to see the fireworks on the lake for July 4th. They told us there were no more parking spots unless we wanted to give them a substantial tip, even though the other two groups in our party were able to valet right before us. It was absolute chaos trying to find a parking spot anywhere remotely in that area and so We called the hotel, spoke with the manager and he profusely apologized, told us to come right back and he met us at the door to ensure that we were taken care of. read more

Don't go here for brunch. They advertise a prix fixe brunch menu at $42 with a pastry basket plus one entree and one side plus coffee or tea, you can add an alcohol drink for 6$. Seems like an ok deal. First surprise, if you chose this menu, everyone at the table must take it too. Second, the basket of pastry is tiny and you are sharing it with everyone... 4 pastry in total. Third, they don't honor their $6 promotion for a drink and we paid $18 for each drinks and also got charged separately for each tea and coffee. What should have been a $48 brunch per person ended up costing us way much more... Overall, the food is ok but really overpriced for what it is. read more

We were at the lunch cut off and even though there was only a few minutes left for lunch. The staff still offered for us to order off the lunch menu. However, We didn't order off the lunch menu and ended up off of the happy hour menu, which was exactly what we needed! The food was delicious and the service was great! The views were by far my favorite and was complemented by the wonderful ambience inside of the restaurant. I loved the modern and retro aesthetic. Everything about this experience was perfect, from the easy street parking, to the very cool elevator ride up to the restaurant (see my pictures). We went out for a sort of fancy lunch, planning 2023 and reflecting on the wins of 2022. We ordered a bottle of bubbles, but they didn't have what we ordered (they did, but it was not cold enough yet), so they offered us the lovely bottle pictured for the same price. Our server was lovely, and the food was amazing. I loved my crab roll, but my lunch mate's steak frites was absolutely out of this world - the definition of melt in your mouth. This was also a super cool crowd. Everyone was dressed to the nines, enjoying holiday lunches with friends or colleagues. The vibe was simply spot on. I'd love to come back here at night when the lights are low and the music is sexier. I think this is a fabulous spot for a work lunch or a date night. I also want to try their happy hour, and enjoy some time on the patio. In a perfect world: I arrive at Milk and Honey for a massage and take my time getting ready afterwards. Then, I mosey over to the bar at Nido for a glass of bubbles before my reservation. I think I've officially come up with my SXSW recovery plan. read more

I've been wanting to check Nido out since they opened and while on a walk on Easter morning we decided to just walk in and see if they had a table available on their patio. There was a wait-list with one person before us. We placed our name down and sat down in the lounge in the bar area. There was plenty of seating and this was at noon on Easter. We were able to order from the full menu here and have a pretty good view too. We only ordered two drinks a negroni and gin martini. Be prepared to pay about $17 a drink. The view is gorgeous and sexy vibe in the lounge. Next time I'll be checking out their patio and be making a reservation. read more

If my lunch experience was this fab then I can't wait to make it a point and go to Nido for dinner! The experience truly starts from the ride up the elevator with it's floor to roof glass ceilings. As you're going up to the 8th floor, you're provided a view of the downtown skyline which is a true delight. Once the elevator doors open to Nido you'll immediately notice all of the velvet and rich decor which feels warm and inviting. Those couches against the glass walls looked comfortable enough to take a nap (trust me I was tempted as the sun was beaming against my face). We were seated within a few minutes and had a corner table inside which was close enough to see the small balcony and be a wallflower for everything going on inside. The staff here is impeccable and really on top of their game. From drink recommendations to the right amount service, it was divine. Aside from a bottle of bubbly, I went for a cocktail and tried their "Farmer's Daughter" which was their take of an old fashioned with a hint of maple. Fun and had a great taste to it. Their lunch and dinner menus differ just a smidge so be mindful of that! Started off with a half dozen of their muder point oysters which were so good. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND asking for the cucumber mignonette on the side for those of us who prefer the actual taste of the oyster. I found the mignonette was a little overpowering but I now know for next time. My main course was the steak frites and it was cooked to the T. The right amount of tenderness and still rare in the middle. Every bite felt like butter tbh. Also is it weird to say their fries were so fresh and crunchy with each bite lol. We were so lost in ambience and good conversation that we didn't realize the restaurant had closed for turnover service to get ready for dinner. They were so awesome though and let us enjoy the last bit of the champagne bottle. I will definitely be back again!!! read more
