Late review (but better late than never). We went to Spotlight for my best friend's birthday in 2021 and had a blast! The venue was excellent, the drinks were great, and the vibe was nice for a private party. We had so much fun and the hostess was super sweet. We will definitely be back.

Patiently waiting to view a private room, to host a birthday party
    Tina J.

From start to finish, Charlie the owner of Spotlight was a pleasure to work with. He and his staff made the process of reserving my private room, visiting the location, and having my birthday party a pleasure. The website gives you an accurate view of the rooms you are reserving, the deposit and contract was easy to complete over the phone and through email. My daughter and I viewed the room, 2 days before my party to see how we would like to set up. I started with Room 1, then changed to Room 2, due to an increase in guest. Thank God, Room 2 was available, Charlie and staff (wonderful lady in the office) allowed change, 3 days before my party. I had never did Karoke before and was truly looking forward to the laughter it was going to bring. Word of advice, practice before you go! Well honestly don't think it would matter, you don't sound the same as you do in the shower. We arrived a little early to get a feeling of the process. DJ had to keep coming to fix our mess ups until my young adult niece arrived and took control. Thank you DJ, he was patient, very helpful, and knew exactly how to solve our problems all 15,000 times. Just joking, wasn't 15,000 times but it was alot. We were reserved our own waitress, and she was very attentive to our needs. Due to the amount of my guest, or shall I say the room, I had a $400 drink minimum to meet in order to receive my $200 deposit back. Well, guess what...there are a bunch of drinkers in my life apparently, because I was only $4 short of that limit. Yep, I paid $12 for my party, July 13-14. $6 for my H2O, $4 for drink minimum, and $2 for her gratuity. Party paid for itself, and we all had a absolute wonderful time. If you are looking for a place to do Karaoke, give SPOTLIGHT a try. Charlie, is and was the best, I could have asked for! The only downside to the entire process is it is located in Midtown and we all know parking is not the best downtown, and the fact that Spotlight charges a $10 parking fee, without valet parking. Happy Karaoke to you, we had a ball!

The new location is the best. Midtown needed a karaoke bar. Get their early or you won't find a seat.

We went here for our White Elephant party. The place is pretty cool but the drinks are over priced for my taste. I may or may not go back.

Ask the Community - Nightingale Karaoke

I'd like to book a room in December for 8-12 can we bring food? Is there a BYOB option?

I would like to come here for my birthday, do they have rooms that fit 30-45 people? Also how much does it cost per hour?

Yes. They have room 3. It fits up to 45 people. I believe it's a $450.00 drink minimum plus gratuity. There is no fee per hour. Just drink it up and you'll meet it.

Considering the recent shutter of other places (#2) within the hospitality umbrella, it's not too big of a surprise that Wooster's would also be in the crosshairs. The space was always a nice mix of indoor and outdoor seating, which combined with its dedicated parking lot made this an easy drinking outlet for all kinds of occasions. The intimate indoor space was lovely and well ventilated, and it felt like there wasn't ever a moment where the bar wasn't slammed. The outdoor space was much of the same, with lots of tables and chairs, and even the trendy swing chairs facing the city. The only thing that was a little bit of a liability were those open flame heaters; it would only take on person to accidentally walk into one or trip onto it. For libations, the drinks were well priced, well made, and always potent. I appreciated the aesthetics, as well as the bartenders who made them. The only part that wasn't exciting was the limited food menu, which did its part as munchies for the drink heavy crowd, but was mediocre otherwise. The space is already undergoing the new facelift of a separate concept, one of which I hope will do the area justice, just as much as Wooster's did. ____________ (#1) The Kirby Group. (#2) R.I.P. I didn't catch the bartender's name, but he greeted us immediately. There was only one other patron and the staff was decorating the bar with Christmas decor. The bartender informed us that the bar wasn't fully stocked but asked us what types of drinks we like. Based on my preference, he suggested a Martinez. I had never even heard of a Martinez but I was open to trying it. He made it, looked at it, and said it didn't come out right. He asked if it would be okay for him to redo it which I of course obliged. I appreciated the fact that he didn't serve me a drink that wasn't properly made. The wait was worth it. The Martinez tasted like a sweeter Negroni and I really enjoyed it! I'm glad I was able to visit one of the oldest bars in Houston. It was super low key and chill which was a perfect way to end our evening.

Bar is first come first serve seating. If you want a table, there are probably around 50 to 60 seat seats in the restaurant. I didn't run into any issues having to have any reservation, but I can see it being busy if there's any celebration. There's also an outdoor area too if you wanna hang out, the day I went, it was raining so it was closed, but I could see that being really nice in the summer. They have a really, really big drink menu. And a lot of cocktails. I drank a pretty in pink, it was a tasty drink and I highly recommend. Very good and classic cocktail, sweet and tangy and aesthetically pretty. I think it's a classic sports bar with a bunch of TVs that you could just watch any sort of game and grab a drink or a beer. I would say the appeal of the location is probably the vast drink menu. On the menu, there's a lot of real food, or shareables. I was with a large group so we stuck to more shareable's. The pizza was good and pretty standard. I thought the nachos wasn't as good, the steak was kind of overcooked, but still a great shareable item. Service was a really fast and accommodating. We ended up having to change tables multiple times because of our guest count, but they were really helpful about it and accommodating. The only saying that I didn't like is that they don't have a lot that you can self park. It's valet only it's $10 on the weekdays and $20 on the weekends. The area is relatively safe, but I ended up valet because of just a lot of people walking around the area. It felt more safe, but the valet was definitely more expensive than I would've preferred. Fun fact, they do celebrate birthdays with sparklers! Super easy to just tell the waitress and she will send somebody over.

However, my male friend recently came here to attend a party and was denied entry because of his attire. He was wearing neatly pressed jeans with no holes, clean tennis shoes, and a collared, button-down sleeveless shirt. Meanwhile, other men were allowed inside wearing T-shirts, shorts, hats, and tennis shoes. Given the venue's casual indoor-outdoor atmosphere, I genuinely do not understand why his outfit was considered unacceptable while more casual attire was permitted. This is not an upscale or fine-dining establishment--it has the atmosphere of a sports bar, allows smoking on the outdoor patio, and primarily serves casual finger foods. Women are also permitted to wear extremely revealing outfits, including very short skirts and bikini-style tops. While everyone should be free to dress comfortably, the rules should be applied fairly and consistently to all guests, regardless of gender. We were told that the owner establishes the dress code. If that is the case, management should clearly communicate the policy and reconsider how it is enforced. Selectively denying entry based on unclear or inconsistently applied standards creates an obvious double standard and leaves guests feeling unfairly targeted. I strongly encourage the owner and management team to review this policy and ensure it is reasonable, transparent, and enforced equally.

It looked dark, clubbish, and fun (exactly what I was looking for) and I couldn't wait to come here. After a 25 minute Uber ride we were downtown and walking to our destination. At first we could not find it but thankfully a nice gentlemen showed us where it was. Upon walking in, darkness with these bright lights paved our way. We sat down at the bar, but realized dancing did not start until 10pm. The bartender came over and said to us "we have a speakasy behind door #3" we were like WHAT! Let's go. So, we walked down the dark hallway and pushed open door #3 (hence the name) to find this super cool speakeasy bar. Dim lights, really modern decor, comfy suede chairs and best of all, some really great cocktails. If you are ever in Downtown Houston, I highly recommend you coming here.
