I came here for a party in one of the private rooms. Before coming here I heard several things about the establishment but upon arriving it didn't meet the expectations that I had. Parking is your typical street parking or you can pay to park at some of the parking lots around the area so make sure you have cash on you. However, there is an ATM nearby if needed. I ended up paying $10 to park in a lot behind the building but it was well lit and the walk was short. As for inside of the place, I didn't walk around much since I was in one of the party rooms but the main room's ambiance slightly weird and dark. The waitress that attended to the party was pleasant but the bartenders can't seem to make drinks that well. Several of us had to send our drinks back for various reasons. I ordered a hurricane and it tasted like cheap juice with liqour. I wasn't impressed. I did end up having a good time because of the group I was with but I just wish I could have had a better experience with the bar. read more

If is one large room with a stage, and once the bar gets busy the wait for singing takes some time. Drink prices aren't too bad, but also not cheap. Many apologies to the staff and other people at Spotlight for my causing their ears to bleed. I came here with a group around 6 pm on Friday and aside from our big group of about 10, there were only 6 other people there. Apparently it doesn't get crowded until 10ish, so if you want some uninterrupted karaoke fun, the earlier the better. Song selection is fantastic, the microphones are great, and we had a lot of fun. The nice thing is that with two microphones, it's easy to do a duet or a group performance on the stage. And thankfully nobody boo'ed me, despite my horrific singing. There are three screens in the back of the room where you can look up the song you want, write it on a song request slip, and hand it to the DJ guy. He'll announce when it's your turn, you grab the mike, and away you go. Went to this location last night for my chica birthday & had a blast! The reason for 3 stars is not only did I have hair on my straw BUT in my freaking drink. It wasn't my hair bc it was curly and the texture was not of my ethnicity. It low key piss me off, why? Bc when your paying beyond top dollar for Crown Reserve, I need you to reserve and hold any extra that's not supposed to be there. Ugh!.... Besides the drink everything was really nice. This place had a strange vibe - like a cross between a dive bar, a dance bar, a karaoke bar, and a strip club. I'm not a huge fan of karaoke, but even my friends who were said the place felt very odd. Drink wise, the bartender was very nice, and very quick at making drinks. It's midtown, and parking is difficult. Carpool if you're with friends, because there's minimal street parking or you can pay $10 to park your card in the "lot" next to the bar. I use the term lot loosely, because it was really just broken concrete in an empty space. Leave your nice BMW at home instead of parking it here. The DJ was also singing a lot of the karaoke at the time, and was hilarious! He sang the most random songs wtih such heart, you know he must love his job. Since me and my friends came earlier than their peak times (we were there around 830pm ish), there weren't many other people in the bar, which was for the best since all their tables and booths and half of the bar was marked as "reserved". I don't know where we would have sat if the place had more than 5 people! They do have a few private party rooms away from the main area, and there was at least one party happening while we were there. If you're coming for a birthday party, or even as a large group, it seems to be best if you call ahead and reserve a table/booth/room to accomodate your group. read more

This review is for a private room we rented out. As far as the main area goes... I've only come out once (and drunkenly I might add). It seemed fun, but be warned: it's an open mic. Drinks are fairly easy to obtain and staff are fairly nice. As far as the private room goes, it's a pretty sweet deal. You have to put down a deposit of a couple of hundred of dollars. But, basically, you have to spend $300-400 in drinks to pay off the room. They'll even split everyone's tab separately, so you just have to get your friends to keep the drinks going. We had a group of about 25, and it was really easy to hit that limit, so not a problem. The karaoke system was pretty easy to use, even for the most inebriated amongst us. Good system and set-up. The only reason it's 4 stars instead of 5 is that they are VERY strict about outside alcohol. Now... Let's be honest. There's 25 people in a dark room. I can't control everyone who was part of our group and who was coming and going, especially as I'm hosting a party for someone and I don't know all of their friends. So of course, one person brought in an outside glass of wine, unbeknownst to me. The waitress took me outside and said I might lose my deposit, I have to talk to a manager. Way to kill the fun in MY night. She then came back and said "Y'all have been nice, so we'll just confiscate this drink, but it can't happen again". I get it. There's a liquor license covered by the TABC and you also don't want to lose out on revenue. But there's no reason to punish the person who's hosting a party if they're not complicit. The offender should be ejected rather than threatening a $200 fine, or a warning given. That last part left a slightly bad taste in my mouth for an hour or so until I finally put it behind me. That aside, the waitstaff were really good and the service was quick. read more

Nice karaoke bar, gets pretty packed but it is a small venue. Reservations are a must if you want a table and if you have a large party private rooms are available, but they do take Walk-ins. $10 at the door. Pick the songs from the available computers in the back and then hand it to the DJ. Go with songs in mind tho because they have a very large list and it can be frustrating looking for a song.. Once you get past that you finally getting into two smaller place with party size rooms that you can run out in a nice kind of casual bar area. Just moved to downtown and passed this place otw to work and it looked fun. Tried it out this Saturday and had a blast. Wait staff was great, music, atmosphere and patrons were all phenomenal. It was fun night. Really enjoyed myself, had a table and it was set up for me. Entry fee was great however after buying drinks and sing multiple songs the bartender wanted to charge 3$ for a bottle of water and 3$ for a cup of water. That's ludicrous! They would of gotten 4 stars however any establishment that charges for water I do not agree with, especially with their being an entry fee. The mics worked great. A little bit of grit never bothered me...that much. So here's the skinny on this place, if you want to have fun with JUST your friends, definitely come here. It seems like this place is over run with bachelorette parties and not so good looking people (if you're into that kind of scene). We came in a group and stayed amongst ourselves while listening to people sing, and have a good time. It was pouring down rain, so the roof was leaking on us, which sucked...but we moved our chairs over and just watched the water puddle grow by us. We had a birthday party here so we rented out a room and had close to 30 people join us! It was a really good time as there was plenty of space to sit and walk around. I would have preferred 2 people waiting on us as it took some time to get drinks with only 1 waitress. We all got buckets so it wasn't a huge deal but everyone noticed as they kept asking us what was taking so long with their drinks. You can order food and have it delivered as we did with a local pizza place towards the end of the night. They had a pretty comprehensive list of songs to chose from but they were missing some that we thought would definitely be included. I reserved private room 1 for my birthday. Oh my goodness, It was so awesome! I was able to decorate and we brought finger foods and cake in. Everyone had a great time. I have received so many compliments about how much fun they had. Joyry was our waitress for the night. We had about 20 people in the room. She was very attentive and made sure everyone had what they needed. I could not have asked for a better server! Joyry is totally AWESOME!! My birthday was a huge success. Parking isn't the best but that is the case anywhere you go in the midtown/downtown area. I've always been a fan of Spotlight. I've been going to the original one for longer than I can even remember and have had several events there as well. This location however is less than stellar. Where to even begin? Upon ordering our first round of drinks at the bar, I asked for a water also. She brought me a bottled water. Being the non-pretentious person I am and knowing how much water I drink while I sing and drink vodka, I kindly asked for tap instead. The bartender then proceeded to tell me they didn't serve tap water. What??? I get the whole 2 drink minimum to sing and not wanting people to drink tap water all night, but as a paying, alcohol drinking customer, that was not ok with me. She finally said she could serve tap water but only in shot glasses... I ended up having to have my tiny glass refilled at least 100 times and I know it was annoying the bartenders to no end, but I prefer to stay hydrated while I drink without running up an additional $100 on my tab! As it was, our tab was over $200. Luckily, she wasn't too fond of any of us so we ended up with a male bartender who was awesome for the rest of the evening and would serve me 4 shot glasses of water at a time. :) And speaking of tabs, on a group of 4 people, 18% was automatically added in! We were all a little dumbfounded by that since that's usually only for large groups. Whatever, we paid it and promised to never return to this location ever again. read more

In this bar if your not dark enough... Then you aren't allowed on stage.. Even if you drink, you tip, and you pay a damn entrance fee. Strange when the ones running the joint are a lighter shade of yellow than I. Terrible service... Never even got to do one song because we kept getting pushed out. I was let down. 1 star for the drinks, 0 stars on the karaoke DJ who seem to be calling everyone else but myself and my wife. I was informed by the waitress that the DJ would play any song even those not on the playlist only to be told that wasn't true. So I selected a different song and that song never came on. Spotlight was a fun time- I came on a Thursday with bunch of friends and stopped in at Chipotle (across the street) on my way in since I hadn't eaten dinner yet and the bar staff had no problem with this. Parking on the street wasn't bad since it was relatively early in the night and a Thursday. There was an older gentleman singing a ton of Sinatra songs at the beginning, but once more people started rolling in he shared the mic. The DJ was a little strange (he was very vigilant about making sure he retained all of his pencils for the song request slips) but overall it was a pretty good time. read more

We were here Saturday for me and my friends birthday, we rented a private room (room 3 which holds 40 people) and had a blast! We had the room from 8pm to 2am which we took full advantage of, their song selection was very vast and everyone found something to sing. My only minor complaint would be paying for parking (but that's anywhere in that area) and that the first drink I had (pineapple and rum) was undrinkable because of the rum quality/quantity. I found this place simply by going online. I was wanting a "classy" karaoke experience to celebrate my birthday, and just judging from the web site, I knew this would be it! I was impressed that the owner responded to my online request almost immediately, continued to correspond with me by email and text up until the event, and went out of his way to ensure that my group had a great time! The drinks are way overpriced...a bucket of Bud light was $24!!! How ridiculous is that? I recommend asking for prices before ordering or you will be shocked with your bill. Reading the other reviews about the drinks I thought " yeah right it couldn't be that bad" well it's true their drink are beyond over priced and watered down... $11 for a "specialty drink" if you're paying with cash that is, and they'll be sure to put a dollar sign at the top of your tab. If you pay with card... Good luck! The system is not that great, that microphones require you to yell in them because you can barely hear anything. The staff is pretty nice but overall this would not be my first choice for a karaoke bar read more
