I hate being disappointed by a restaurant serving mediocre food. I hate it even more when that food is sushi. I know not every place can excel at this staple of Asian cuisine. But at least attempt to make an effort in making it delicious. I don't mean you have to have Nakazawa level sophistication but do provide fresh food to hungry customers. I happened to be one of those hungry customers who came in after watching a movie next door. I have to say that even though I was starving, I was very reluctant to finish the rolls in front of me. That is sad to say because I never want sushi to go to waste but after trying a ridiculous number of places that have served way better sushi than what I got, I am compelled to call this place out on it. The fish and sauces that day did not go well together. Tasting a piece of salmon from the roll by itself I could tell it was not fresh. Perhaps that is why the heavy amount of sauce on top was present to try to mask the lack of freshness. Well it didn't work. The scallions inside the Secaucus Roll were heavy handed and the rice was not well packed. It fell apart the second a chopstick touched it. The House Special Volcano Roll did not have any exploding flavor that the name would have you thinking. It was, for lack of a better word, bland. It says they put chili sesame oil on it but all I got was a hint of spice. Not the "Volcano" effect I was expecting. I am not presuming to be a trained culinary artist or critic but my palate is developed. I know when sushi is good and I know when sushi is not good. If you're used to fine sushi restaurants, or fine, good quality food in general, you will NOT be impressed by this place. The amount of effort put into the items I ordered was pretty minimalistic and lousy. -The chicken noodle soup is saturated with noodles, the chicken looks and is of poor quality, and there was a tiny shred of carrot, and a tiny piece of a shallot. Didn't taste that good either. The photos on the menu are NOT at all similar to the actual thing. Those are clearly stock photos, and not photos of the restaurants creation. -Tuna hand roll- This hand roll was overly stuffed with rice, and contained three tiny shreds of tuna and a couple lousy shreds of cucumber. Didn't have the masago either. I understand that restaurants try to save money by portion control, but this is a joke. I also asked for avocado in my hand roll, which i didn't get. -Tuna roll- just like the hand roll, ridiculously overstuffed with rice and contains the smallest shreds of tuna I've seen in a roll. The presentation is also kinda sloppy. Didn't taste great, the tuna is probably close to its expiration. The rice should compliment the roll, it shouldn't make up the majority of the roll. -The miso soup here doesn't have seaweed. When I asked them to put seaweed in it, they told me that I should order the seaweed salad, and to put the salad into the soup...Thats the most absurd thing I've heard. -The octopus salad looks like cole-slaw from a distance.. The octopus is chopped up really tiny. The color doesn't look too healthy, just a very poor grade dish. The young lady who took my order was pretty air-headed, which made the phone call really annoying. They also almost didn't deliver my food because my order was $0.30 less than the delivery minimum. Restaurants have an obligation to provide their patrons with excellent quality, effort and good customer service. Niko Niko clearly doesn't respect that unwritten rule. I just moved from Jersey City, which has The Box and Komogashi Too- both which are absolutely outstanding sushi restaurants.. Hopefully I can find a good sushi restaurant around here or else I'll be very sad. read more

A solid but not spectacular sushi place in Secaucus. I work right by there and I got there once in a while. It's a bit pricey but the food is good. They have an older women cashier who is a little rude and pushy but everyone else seems to be cool. If this place where just a little cheaper I would give it 4 stars, the quality of the food is good and the price isn't crazy but I would like it more if they were just a little cheaper. Disgusting. I was stuck in this awful office park and I hate chain restaurants so I saw this tiny sushi shop. I was a bit sketched out but it looked ok. At the bar was a man who looked like he would be making fresh sushi and some beautiful salmon and tuna on display. I ordered the tuna special. I sat right in front of him. He never took the tuna out. He also didn't do anything. What I got was pre made crap with a strange coloring. I am 100% sure it was not tuna and had a completely different texture and color to the tuna that was staring at right in front of me. It was also tiny for 10 dollars. Total scam, total rip off. You have been warned. Stay away. It's pre fab and we don't know what it really is. I'll be amazed if I don't get sick. I shouldn't have eaten it. Possibly the worst sushi I have ever eaten. Extremely fishy. the sweet potato roll had spinach in it which was very chewy. The shrimp tempura had the shell of the shrimp on it. Ive been to this place a bunch of times. The good reviews here are misleading. It's not authentic when you use romain lettuce in the Tokyo roll nor when your not using REAL udon noodles. We wanted something a little more quick so we got some from the fridge. We got two to-go sushi containers each, they were $10 each. The sushi wasn't anything special, I mean what do you expect from premade sushi but for 4 containers and 2 drinks. It was $50 dollars. The sushi was not even close to worth that amount of money. I found this place about a year ago and I have to say I couldn't be happier that I did. It's a small little place, perfect for carry out or dining in with one other person. I typically get the sushi and it's always fresh and amazing. The Nikko Nikko roll is one of my favorites. I have also tried their soups and they are delicious. Be careful of the spicy soup it will definitely clear your sinuses. This time however I tried the bibimbap. When I've ordered this dish before it comes steaming and almost cooking in the bowl but not this time. It may be because they're primarily a carry out place, or because it's just so small I'm not sure why. It was ok not the best thing I've gotten here but that won't turn me away. My fiancé got the Oyaki Don, basically chicken and onions over rice. He really enjoyed it and finished the entire thing.
