Please was great ... will def go back; the burger was juicy and delicious and so was the grilled shrimp salad. Wife and I split the two entrees and we plenty full. Excellent. Located in the Grand Colonial Hotel where we stayed for 4 nights. We enjoyed breakfast 4 mornings, lunch twice and dinner twice at Nine-Ten. One of the family dinners included 5 diners - everyone was pleased. Drinks at the bar each night - very popular. Nine-Ten pours a really nice glass of wine. Everything always excellent. Reasonably priced. This restaurant is a must when visiting beautiful La Jolla. read more

Fabulicious!!Where amazing cooking skills happen with perfectly cooked and well balanced flavors. Every single dish we ordered was to die for. Jamaican Jerk Pork Belly - 3 pieces of about an inch cube pork belly. crispy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside. flavorful and tasty Seared Duck Breast - I'm not a fan of duck but I took a bite and it was so good. You can tell it's duck but not as gamey as most of the ducks I've tried. The skin was crisp and the meat was tender. The hubby said the duck could be a little bit more juicy but still the best duck he's had. Salmon Creek Double Cut Pork Chop - up there as one of the best pork chops I've ever had. (The other was at Ave 5). It's about an inch and half thick cut. I ordered medium well and it was just perfect. Well seasoned, tender, and juicy. I could eat this every night. Chocolate and Nutella Tart with ice cream with what I believe is toffee crunch- omg soooo goodddd. The Tart is was decadent yet silky and smooth and the ice cream was just heavenly. LOVE! The presentation of every dish was also very nice. At the end of our meal, the pastry chef also sent out two macaroons that were also nothing short of aMaZement! Phenomenal food. Decent food, small portions, dreadful service. You can get better food, better ambiance, at a comparable or better price at one of a dozen locations near by. Service at any restaurant, especially somewhere that labels themselves as higher end, should have some level of standards. They don't appear to exist at nine ten. Food is adequate, as a steak lover I would say their NY, drowning in a house made steak sauce, leaves much to be desired. Please save yourself the headache and either go somewhere else, or pay a friend ten bucks to be rude to you for an hour, and save yourself 70 dollars and the drive. read more

Great restaurant. Went for a family birthday celebration party of seven, birthday card from staff was a nice touch. They put us in the private room we did not know they had, sat at 6 pm left at about 10, no problem after dinner they left us alone only seeing if we needed more coffee or drinks. Sunday brunch was fantastic. A limited menu of amazing items helps the selection process. The three courses were a perfect amount of food. The price feel like it is on the higher end, but the quality is spot on. Staying on top of coffee refills would round out the excellent service. Service was terrible, food was okay. We were planning a date night and had a gift certificate from a silent auction. The place is quaint and sophisticated in the hotel. Inside, service was subpar and snobby. We had to ask several times to have our water refilled. The only reason I give it 2 stars and not 1 is because my husband ordered a beer and the glass it came in smelled rancid. The waiter remedied the situation a new beer once notified. But it took a little while to flag him down. We never got bread, though it looked like other tables did. And we had bread plates that sat unused. Busboys seemed to wonder aimlessly, and not be attentive to water glasses. I had the hamachi sashimi starter, hubby had the octopus. Hamachi was drenched in soy sauce and salt, I suspect in am attempt to mask the lack of freshness of the fish. Hubby enjoyed the octopus and reported it to be tasty. Hubby had the rib eye steak which had a wonderful wine reduction and a great variety of mushrooms. I had the tuna, which was over cooked and not very fresh. The saving part of the meal was the half baked chocolate cake. Dessert was actually good. Portions were very small, food was mediocre.... Take your money and go somewhere like Georges just a few blocks away. read more

Dined here during restaurant week and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Greeted immediately upon entering, we had a feeling this was going to be a special evening. The food and service were fabulous. Starting with our waiter, Thierry, who made wonderful food & wine suggestions to the other service staff who filled water, replenished bread, etc. Everyone was very attentive yet very discreet. Each course was beautifully presented and portions were generous. We had the Squid Ink Pasta with Uni and Oxtail Ravioli. Followed by the Scallops and the Lamb. Dessert was the Half Baked Choc Cake (absolutely to die for!) and the Meyer Lemon Tart. We will be back! read more

This restaurant is amazing! I went to Nine-Ten last night with my friend for Restaurant Week. My friend and I ordered a first course, main course, dessert, and wine pairing. My friend ordered the tuna tartare (Sauvignon blanc), spice crusted lamb loin (medium) (paired with a malbec), and hazelnut semifreddo (paired with a Cadillac). I ordered the Jamaican Jerk pork belly (paired with a Riesling) , braised prime beef short rib (paired with a Cabernet Sauvignon), and apple tartlet (paired with a Sauternes). Each dish was beautiful presented. The food presentation was art-like and visually stunning, so much so that I hated the fact that I would divulge into each dish and ruin the aesthetic masterpiece. As for the food itself, each dish was perfectly seasoned and prepared, and the wines pairings were complementary to the flavors of each dish (I tasted my friend's plates and wine for comparisons). Out of all the dishes, my plates were presented better than my friend's. For first courses, I loved both the tuna tartare and pork belly, so it's a tie here. The beef short rib was to die for, trumping the pork loins by a landslide. As for the desserts, although I was in awe with my Apple tartlet presentation, the dessert itself fell short. The hazelnut semifreddo was the clear winner. I would come back just for that dessert alone with coffee. I heard the half baked chocolate cake is excellent, but unfortunately I will have to order it next time. Regarding Nine-Ten's service, I came in on a Monday night and the restaurant was half empty. The timing of each dish as it came out of the kitchen was perfect. The servers were not that attentive and I had to flag the hostess down to get the sommelier (there was cork in my glass of sauternes). I received a second glass of sauternes, which also had cork, but I could not get anyone's attention so I took my spoon and fished it out of the glass. Food - 5 stars Service - 4 stars The price for Restaurant Week was $50 for three dishes and $25 for wine pairing. There is also a "Mercy of the Chef" 6 course Prix fixe menu for $89 per person created for the entire table ($134 per person with wine pairing). We will try that dinner experience next time. The lunch menu and the lunch portions have both shrunk recently, which is disappointing. Happy Hour brings perfected dishes with powerful flavors at quite moderate prices -- especially considering the posh location. Service is a bit slow but very professional; the server and the food always show up eventually. Dinner consists of outstanding dishes that clearly involved much more than the minimum expected amount of effort and panache. A top-shelf restaurant. I went here the other day, i actually come here quite a bit. The food is just absolutely delicious! Everything is paired nicely with each other and compliments each other. I had the french fries which are to die for! They have truffles and cheese sprinkled on them...scrumptious!!! I highly suggest the hamachi sashimi if you are a fish person The apple crumb cake is a good combination of hot and cold and i personally loved it. All of the sorbets for dessert are very good each item on the menu is divine and you wouldnt be dissapointed. read more

I was visiting from out of town and this restaurant was recommened to me by our hotel. Overall the atmosphere was quite relaxing and the service was good. I ordered the burger medium rare but it was clearly overcooked. I would not expect this from a restaurant of this quality. I returned it but it took forever to get my food. In the mean time the other members of my party ate there food leaving me to eat alone. I would not recommend this restaurant for its burger. You would do much better at the Cheesecake Factory where the food is consistently good. read more

Took my wife there with her family for her birthday. The interior is nice, not too loud. The food is good but over priced and small portions. I had the rib meat which was good but more like pot roast than ribs and really not that special. The swordfish was on the fishy side. I was so impressed how they treated us with 5 star service even thought it was restaurant week. Most restaurants only provide 3 options per course during restaurant week. Nine-ten offered more thank I could count. The food was extraordinary, the service excellent, the bartender recommended a wine that was very reasonable and delicious.
