We have been here a couple of times now, once with our parents and the other time with friends. Interestingly enough, my husband said he thought the portions. Have gotten smaller since the last time we came. I will say that I'm realizing the taco size is a bit on the small side. To really get full (especially for those who let's say didn't have a big lunch) it would be good to get 2-4 tacos for dinner. We have only tired tacos here from the Quesabirria to the octopus, roadkill to the cauliflower, and the al pastor and some other ones. So far they were tasty, some more salty than the others. I would say one of my favorite items is the elote, I recommend getting the whole corn that looks charred vs the bowl. The bowl doesn't do it justice and tastes like your eating corn from a can; there's no charred pieces. The chicharronnes appetizer was a good touch it tasted fresh and hot. The cucumber pineapple agua Fresca was also good, try it with Tajin on the cup. We had churro with ice cream for my mom-in-law's bday and wish they had other fun dessert options to share. One critique about our server was that he was not as attentive to our request: I called beforehand to let them know about the birthday and when we were done eating he hands us the check. So I had to go and talk with him; even after that he comes back with the plates for dessert which ended up no longer being a surprise which we had initially wanted it to be. And they also do NOT sing happy birthday here which is a bummer, but nonetheless we sang for our mom. Would we come here again, maybe but we may check out the Roseville location. read more

Came here for lunch on a Saturday. Good crowd. Love the vibe in those place. Has more room than the Roseville location so it felt more comfortable to me. The chips and salsa variety was pretty good, I liked the spiciest one and the verde is good too. The others were ok. I ordered a Shrimp Mazatlan taco and I really enjoyed this one. Cheesy and had a good flavor, I could eat half a dozen if no one was watching. The spicy shrimp taco was pretty close second. Different type of flavor but I enjoy shrimp tacos so I like this one as well. But the Mazatlan is hands down better. The Nashville hot chicken taco wasn't my favorite. I think I was expecting something different. It's not bad at all, it's just not for me. The tortilla were great though. I'm usually a flour tortilla person but the tortillas they make here are great. Side note the bathroom confused me for a second, I felt like I walked into the womens bathroom and panicked until I realized it was co-ed style. Yeah confused me. lol. read more

Dropped by for lunch with my brother today because we wanted to try some of their tacos. The restaurant itself is very pretty. Dimly lit and tall ceilings! There's also a sitting area for photo op. Service was great! They're very attentive and friendly. After we sat down the server brought over their complimentary sample of all their salsa with some chips. It was all delicious! I ordered the grilled mushroom taco. It was good but I wished they used a different mushroom. I also ordered the pork Al pastor taco and that was delicious! The spicy shrimp taco was my fav but I wished it was spicier. I also ordered a flan. It was so creamy and thick like pudding cheesecake ish .. and didn't taste eggy. Loved it! I have wanted to go to Nixtaco for sometime and finally had the chance! Nixtaco has a few locations, which are all part of the same family. The Roseville establishment has a Michelin Bib Gourmond rating (offers notably good food for the price) so I was excited! Located just off the I50 freeway, it's an easy place to get to whether you are local, going to Lake Tahoe, or heading to Sacramento or the Bay Area. The restaurant is well organized and I decided to sit at the bar to try the food. The waitress was on point: I let her know I had not eaten there before and she took me through the entire menu. She brought out some chips with a variety of salsas to try from mild to more spicy. On their menu, all taco options had a burrito option to choose from. Since I love burritos, I selected the shrimp burrito with sour cream and guacamole. It was fantastic! The price was pretty good too! This has been a pleasant addition to folsom. I used to go to their location in Roseville. They offer elevated tacos. The staff is always very helpful. I love that they offer so many vegan options. What a nice surprise to stroll in and find they had Happy Hour on Sunday (sign outside says Monday - Friday 3-6pm). We started off with complimentary chips and four types of salsas. We loved sampling each one and enjoyed the traditional verde and roja salsas the most. The peanut chipotle and habanero-carrot were so unique! $2 off house tacos during happy hour make them a steal. Each taco has a ton of filling, and you can easily make a meal out of two to three. Loved the originality of the two signature tacos we had: octopus and pork belly. The octopus was tender and had a nice kick to it. The pork belly was fatty in the best possible way, succulent and sweet. ...And the grilled cheese on both?! Oh yeah! The cauliflower was a delight too. So full of flavor, I didn't miss the meat! Unfortunately, the chicharron was very salty and dry. I wouldn't go for this one again. Service was great, but food on a scale of 5 being the highest was honestly a 1 and that's for the tortilla. The carne asada was tough and flavorless. Chips, salsa, and waters landed on the table fast... love that. A few minutes later, the manager Cory stopped by to check in and give us the rundown on their top taco picks. Friendly and clearly knew his stuff, which made ordering easier. Our server gave us a few minutes to look over the menu without hovering, which I always appreciate. Everything came out quick, and the overall service was great. Food: 10/10 Let me just say, I am not a corn tortilla girly. I usually avoid them. But these? These hit different. I got the Pork Belly and Quesabirria tacos and both were absolute bangers. Perfectly seasoned, juicy, flavorful, everything you want in a taco. My guy tried the flan (meh) and churros (yum), but I went with the "liquid dessert" route and ordered both the Lemon Drop and the Pink Lady. Wow the music is a little older than I'd like as it makes it hard to converse given the stone floor and walls. We recently dined here and had a great experience. It was easy to make a reservation and we were seated right away after arriving. I had a spicy margarita which was delicious and definitely more on the spicy side. We had the octopus taco, shrimp taco, birria taco, and rajas con queso taco. From fantastic, friendly service, to really delicious food, to a very casual but upscale feel inside, this is the perfect little date night or meet up with friends spot, or treat-yo-self hangout. Started with the salsas - all really good flavor but none were actually spicy spicy which for me is a bit of a bummer but we love a good flavor bomb. Guac: delicious and filling. There are several vegetarian tacos available: corn, mushroom, and cauliflower. All are really delicious. The mushroom was my least favorite but still had really good flavor. Ended with the churros which were not entirely what I was expecting but still really good without being too hard/crunchy or too sweet. My husband and I were recommended this place by a friend who said it has the best tacos he's had since living in SoCal, and we absolutely agree. The food is SO good with everything made in-house and a clear passion is there with the quality and flavors. My husband had the "roadkill" burrito (pork belly with cheese and other yummy stuff) and I had the pork belly, Nashville hot, and quesabirria tacos along with their dulce de leche churros and vanilla bean gelato. Oh, and you start out with chips and 4 types of really good salsa. It was hard to pick out favorites, but we decided the peanut chipotle and roasted carrot habanero were goated; the other two were also also excellent, but can't help favorites. I'm terribly full and happy and can't wait to go back. The service was excellent, also. Presuming the name on the receipt was for the main person who chatted with us, Erik was funny and ended up being helpful with a side passion my husband's tackling (middle aged men and their love of smoking meat, amirite?). Jokes aside, everyone who works there was super chill and clearly stands by the food they serve. Thought it's not exactly SoCal, I grew up with Mexican friends in Bakersfield, all being either first-gen Americans or immigrants themselves, and had some of the best food ever while attending quinces or house parties, and it's been a long time since I've had deliciously authentic food like this. This was my first visit to Nixtaco and it won't be my last! Lots of yummy taco selections made it a wonderful spot for lunch. They have a pretty good sized patio but it was much cooler inside. The tables inside are nice and comfortable. My friend and I each had two different tacos and we loved them all. I tried the goat, because I'm definitely not cooking that at home. It was so juicy and flavorful. For my second I had the salsa verde chicken, shredded chicken cooked in tangy sauce, also yummy. I really liked the fresh corn tortillas but you can opt for flour or get a burrito if you want. I felt like the prices were pretty reasonable. Fresh chips and four kinds of salsa too. I have been to the smaller location in Roseville and find this one more suited for large groups. There is a patio and inside large dining room. The service was quick, friendly and efficient. I've been to the Roseville Nixtaco location. I really wanted to check out Cantina Pedregal when it was here, but unfortunately (or fortunately) it was turned into Nixtaco. Nixtaco did not disappoint. There was plenty of seating for lunch on a Saturday in summer. We sat outside, and the inside was almost empty. The summer menu currently has seasonal offerings like elote and corn tacos. I think the corn taco was my favorite of the three I got. The other tacos were octopus and pork belly. It was just so summery, sweet, bright, and perfectly seasoned. I kinda wish I got two and nixed the octopus taco. Don't get me wrong--the octopus was delicious, but the corn was just that great. The pork belly is a classic. No notes. Will always order. Nixtaco is a great stop on my way to/from Tahoe, or from riding around Folsom Lake. I don't know what it is, but driving to Roseville from Sacramento seems so far compared to Folsom. Also nice because it's next to Costco Gasoline for slightly more affordable gas. read more

I went to Nixtaco for a friend's birthday. Overall I had a great time and would come back. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Tacos were very good. I got the Roadkill (my favorite). This was one of the tacos that got them the Michelin Bib Gourmand award. The pork was smoky, moist and I enjoyed that the taco had a some spice to it. I also got the quesabirra and the Nixtaco combination which were both very tasty. All 3 tacos were well filled so 3 was plenty. The tacos came out very quickly. The downside was that we (party of 5) were seated in a booth which would have had us elbow to elbow, but the server got us a chair or put at the end. Still the table was pretty crowded. The tacos are on the pricey side starting at $6, however I feel that it's worth it as a special treat, especially for the Roadkill taco. We had a reservation at 11:30am (30 minutes after they opened) and I'm glad we did as the inside filled up quickly. There is outdoor seating but it was very hot even though there was a fan and it was shaded (100 degree day). read more

Decided to give this location a try, I would say a little different seating to fit the Folsom crowd. I like the layout of the Roseville location seems a bit open at the Folsom spot. Definitely not as busy I would say, overall very similar for dishes and taste. I got a little more heat from the Roseville location but again everything else was pretty spot on. My friend has been to the one in Roseville and loved it so he suggested Nixtaco for dinner but he found Folsom location which is a bit closer so we decided to go to this location. First I liked the fact that they have 4 different salsas. I liked the heat but the hottest salsa which is habanero wasn't hot at all. Guacamole was fresh and wasn't bland at all it was yummy that I didn't have to mix anything in, also ordered a side of chicharones and they were fresh out of the pan and it was still popping. My skinny passion fruit margarita wasn't as good as the one in Cozumel (of course...) but it was so strong I only needed one. For tacos, I ordered octopus, pork belly and quesabirria (I always order pastor which is my favorite but wanted to try others), octopus and pork belly were amazing but quesabirria was my least favorite of all 3, my friend ordered pastor and hot chicken taco he said was amazing, so next time I'm just gonna stick with pastor and maybe try other tacos. Came into Nixtaco for the first time today and this restaurant did not disappoint! If tacos fill your heart with glee, but you want try a different twist...Nixtaxo is right up your alley. Their mix of flavor and flare will leave your taste buds tingling and your belly satisfied. I thoroughly enjoyed their quatro offering of salsa and chips. First round is on them. The four flavors range from super mild to spicy. The spicy one, for me, was not too hot at all. Their guacamole was thick and delicious. The tacos we ordered (spicy shrimp, pollo asada, pork belly, and potato) each had their individual flavor profile and zest! The hubster even ordered their churros to top off our meal and...YUM! Our server, Lisa, was helpful and incredibly friendly and made suggestions for us on their popular dishes. The decor inside has been repurposed from previous establishments, but fits beautifully with their esthetic. There is plenty of seating inside at tables, booths, at the bar, or even outside on their patio area. Their bathrooms were a bit of a surprise to me...as they were co-ed and did not have toilet seat covers...PLEASE fix this! My only other suggestion for Nixtaco is please turn down the music! I threatened to slap everyone because the food was so good. I preferred choosing tacos over burritos because I wanted a sampling of everything. They also have delicious desert offerings. I had the churros with the fresh house made gelato and my friend had the flan. Every thing was absolutely delicious and I'm going to sleep for 4 hours lol. The drink were top tier. Very good! Service was excellent. We go to the Roseville one most of the time but since it's closer to me, we had to go to this one. A+ It was just too cold when we went there for lunch, we had our jackets on the whole time. Maybe it was because it just opened. read more
