No. 246 - More Like No. Thank You. Let me set the scene: You walk into No. 246, expecting an elevated dining experience--one that justifies the hype and the prices. Instead, you're met with a waiting game longer than an airport security line, food that barely competes with Olive Garden, and service that made me wonder if I had suddenly became invisible. Service - 2.3/10 I wish I had timed how long we waited, but my phone was too busy buffering Yelp reviews out of sympathy. No updates, no "thanks for your patience," just vibes and the distinct feeling of being forgotten. Was left alone for 35 minutes at a time multiple times Ambiance - 4/10 I'll give them this--the spot looks good. It's got that rustic-chic aesthetic that makes you feel like your meal should be life-changing. Spoiler alert: It was not. Food - A Rollercoaster Ride (But Mostly Downhill) Complimentary Bread - 1/10 The bread had a hockey puck crust that required sheer determination (and maybe a hammer) to get through. The inside was... passable. But for a place like this, passable shouldn't be the standard. Chicken Marsala - 6.7/10 (But Could've Been a 10) This dish had potential, but here's the kicker: the pasta was sold separately. Imagine ordering a PB&J and getting the peanut butter and jelly on two separate plates--why make me work for a dish that should be complete? Mixing them together after the fact didn't hit the same. Spicy Rigatoni Vodka - 4/10 This one was just there. No meat, no standout flavors, just noodles coated in sauce. It wasn't bad, but it also wasn't worth writing home about (or paying for again). Meatballs - Good, But Highway Robbery 6.7/10 They were big and flavorful, but at the price they charge for four meatballs, I expected them to either sing to me or solve one of my life problems. Neither happened. Cheesy Bread - The Unexpected Star (8.5/10) Now, this? Actually good. It tasted like a thin-crust personal pizza with fresh cheese, and honestly, it stole the show. But should the best thing on the menu be an appetizer? Debatable. Final Verdict: 4.6/10 - You Won't Miss Anything If You Skip It No. 246 has the aesthetic of a high-end restaurant but the execution of a chain that's lost its spark. If you're in the area and someone drags you here, order the cheesy bread, brace yourself for the wait, and lower your expectations. Otherwise? Keep walking. Would I come back? Probably not. 246 is one of my favorite downtown Decatur spots. The food is always amazing! My favorite go-to's are meatball, garlic cheese bread, Caesar salad for an appetizer, the black spaghetti for my entree, and the EVOO cake for dessert. The meat ball literally melts in your mouth, it's so tender! The black spaghetti is the perfect amount of spicy. Our service is always on point. Our server was very attentive and gave great suggestions. The restaurant was a little crowded on my last visit. I took away 1/2 a star this time around because our reservation was at 8 but we were not seated until 8:30. I took away another 1/2 because they've changed the recipe to the garlic cheese bread. While I think it's always been a little spicy, this time around I bit into an entire spicy pepper while trying to enjoy the bread. I don't mind spice but it was almost unbearable until I could cool my mouth down. Aside from those two things I don't feel it's the norm, just an off moment. We had reservations for 5 for 9:30pm and didn't get seated until almost 10:30pm. They claimed because our entire party was not present, they weren't able to seat us but that was never told to us. We were only told that they were backed up. Now y'all know, this is Atlanta. If our entire party had to be present to be seated, we would've been informed from the moment we checked in to the hostess stand. That left a sour taste in my mouth considering that if our entire party did show up on time, we definitely would've been standing for quite some time regardless so having a reservation makes me a little uneasy considering they were never prepared for us. The manager ended up comping our appetizers after someone from our party complained. Anyway, the complimentary bread was delicious. I didn't enjoy the Sunday gravy but loved the olive oil offered to the person at our table to did not eat pork. I ordered a Cesar salad as a starter and it definitely was enough to share with the table. It was delicious but I personally would've preferred a little more dressing. I didn't ask because we were already seated so late. As my meal I ordered the chicken Marsala which was absolutely delicious. I added a side of the $7 pasta which basically tasted like noodles and cracked pepper. It was super fresh but not something I would go crazy over. Not pictured were the drinks which were all delicious. I don't think you can go wrong with a cocktail on the menu. If you're looking for a nice and cozy date night place, look no further than 246! The name itself does not lend well as to what they offer.. however, you'll quickly realize that this Italian ristorante is worth making it a repeated destination. The ambiance is serene, calm and romantic. They have a small outdoor sitting area in the back. But it can be too cold during the winter. The whole restaurant has a definite Italian vibe. Now for the food.. I've tried a few of the menu items on here. Their house made gravy (red sauce) is delicious. I have to say though that my favorite thing I've had there so far is the chicken Parmesan. Delicious! The bread and sauce before the meal is a very nice touch. However.., very skimpy on bread. Let's start with parking ... since it's in the heart of downtown Decatur the parking is horrible and very expensive if you are unable to find street parking. The place had a great ambiance to it, but for a place that did not have any reservations for the inside seating, it was half empty so they do like to keep their patio packed comparatively. The bread service was alright, it was fresh but make sure to tell your server your dietary restrictions as the dipping sauce for the bread had beef. Garlic bread was VERY cheesy and overall great flavor. I would recommend. Black spaghetti was an interesting new dish, I liked it but I would give it a 7/10. The drinks were I mean low effort. If you're looking for upscale Italian comfort, no 246 will deliver every time. My most recent visit was for the NYE pre fixe dinner and it was great, per usual. In poor form, my partner and I ordered the exact same options. Usually we try to avoid that for the sake of variety, but I can't say I was disappointed. Starter was a combo on Caesar salad and fritto misto. These are both regular menu items and are always well executed. Some of my favorite fritto misto as it's not too dense on the breading. Next we had the tagliatelle cacio e pepe with truffle and duxelles. For me this was a 9 because I truly love mushrooms and earthy flavors, but it was only a 7 for my partner who is less enthusiastic about mushrooms and was more excited for the cacio e pepe aspect. For the third course, we both ordered the Prime NY Strip 8/10. I added the black truffle accompaniment and they gave a generous helping. The steak was tender as perfectly cooked. I know that the protein course is often stand alone, but I do wish there had been some sort of veg or starch, even just a little bit. I will note our steak knives could have been sharper. I was worried that the meat was tough when I cut into it, but we both just had dull knives. For dessert, we selected the olive oil cake with berries (10/10). I am a huge fan of berry desserts and this one was excellent. The cake was very dense and the creamy sauce with the berry mixture made for a really great texture and flavor combination. No 246 really hits the nail on the head for classic but inspired flavors at a good price point and the service is never lacking. In context of all the hype this restaurant gets on social media I would say my experience was just "okay" when it came to the food. The service was nice, our waiter was very patient with us and thoroughly explained the menu to help us make decisions. I ordered the chicken Marsala with the side of pasta. Now the small side of pasta for $7 was kind of ridiculous to me, but I wouldn't have liked my dish as much without it. Unlike the other reviews it definitely was not too salty so i was pleased with that. To say it was my first time trying chicken Marsala l thought it was seasoned exceptionally and I loved the addition of fresh thyme. The vodka pasta was also super good and I would recommend ordering it. I sampled the garlic bread and it wasn't bad by far but it wasn't the star of the show as some people make it seem. Such a great experience!!! Was recommended to this place by a friend and it did not disappoint. We didn't make a reservation because we didn't plan ahead well enough, tried walking in and the hostess was super nice. We were able to snag two end seats at the bar, many people eat full meals at the bar. We shared an amazing Caesar salad, I had the spicy rigatoni vodka and my friend had the spaghetti and meatballs. Both pastas were hand made and to die for. Drinks, I had the aperol spritz and beaches of Italy, my boyfriend doesn't drink much but the bartender was super nice and helped him find a drink he'd like. Parking was a little tricky because all of the street parking was filled and the small lot close by was also full. We eventually found street parking after driving around for 10 minutes. We dined at this restaurant on a Friday and it was packed. We had a reservation for 8:00 but we weren't seated until 8:20. Our waitress was very friendly, but service was kind of slow. The restaurant has an intimate vibe and is pretty noisy. We ordered the garlic bread and calamari for starters and both were good. We had the chicken Marsala and black spaghetti for our mains. The chicken Marsala was very oily and the black spaghetti was a little dry, but they weren't bad. The leftovers we had did not reheat well. We had the evoo bread pudding for dessert and it was just ok. We waited longer for the dessert than our mains. The hubs and I decided to try no. 246 for an impromptu date night, and let's just say, we were blown away by the delicious dishes and service... honestly...truly! We ordered the calamari...HANDS DOWN THE BEST calamari l've had in a while. It wasn't overly chewy, nor rubbery. The seasoning was perfect! Now for the star of the show, THE BOLOGNESE.The bolognese was unbelievable, zero exaggerations. The chicken Parmesan was huge, tasty and delicious! It's definitely enough for two people to share. My daughter and I went here 6:30 on a Friday night without a reservation (BE SURE TO MAKE A RESERVATION). We waited about 45 -50 minutes to dine at the bar otherwise a table wasn't available until 10:30 though I saw several tablea that were never occupied. People are obviously allowed to just sit at the bar even if they have finished their meal and beverages. We were informed that one couple had been there an hour and half. They were still at the bar talking when we left. I could tell the staff was frustrated but no one said anything to them. We had Garlic bread, Chicken AL Forno and a side of pasta. I've visited twice now. Overall the atmosphere, service and experience is great. The best thing on the menu is the cheesy garlic bread. My first visit we tried the chicken dish and the tagliatelle bolognese which were both good but not our favorites. On my most recent visit my first meal (chicken parm) was not cooked well (it tasted as if it was undercooked) and then my second meal (spicy rigatoni) had a good flavor but noodles were chewy. Possibly over or under cooked. I would recommend people try and see if they enjoy it but I did not enough to come again. Amazing service every visit! read more

I can't say enough great things about this restaurant! I've lived in Atlanta for several years, and I can't believe this place has been right under my nose the whole time. My wife treated me to the Chef's Counter experience for my birthday. First, we were seated at the chef's counter with a direct view of the kitchen. We were able to see our dishes being made in real time, and then they were brought to us by the head chef, who described and explained each dish. Everything--and I mean everything--was delicious, but the first dish really set the tone for the night. It was a creamy whipped ricotta, paired beautifully with sweet, ripe tomatoes and warm, soft, slightly salty house-made bread. It sent my taste buds to nirvana. Each subsequent dish was a delight, and the wine pairings chosen to go with each course complemented the food beautifully. I was excited to try this place for my sissy's birthday but it fell way short of expectations. The server, Max, explained that the pasta is made fresh in house daily. He seemed nice but things went downhill when we started asking "too much." We started with calamari, my mom had a meatball, and I had a margarita. The meatball looked like a good portion size and I hear it was tasty. The calamari was lightly fried and flavorful. The bread service was good - the marina tasted super fresh. My sissy is vegan and we had to get a manager just to ask if they could omit butter in the pasta. The server said he asked the chef then became irritable saying what they couldn't do. It's 2023, people have dietary restrictions and why can't olive oil be added to pasta? Smh. I ordered pasta and the shrimp scampi. Again, had to consult the manager to have shrimp cooked in olive oil vs butter. I am not certain why that's difficult. They want to be high end but high end spots accommodate dietary restrictions. The manager was nice however but even he seemed to think that no food is good without butter. The shrimp were fresh and flavorful. The pasta was SWIMMING in oil, undercooked, and the server seemed irritated I asked for more pepper prior to eating the nasty pasta. $127 later, lackluster experience and embarrassment at choosing this place for my sisters bday befell me. Overall the experience was just ok. I had reservations and still had to wait about 15 min for a table. I am glad I reserved an outdoor table because the restaurant was very loud on a Friday night. It was completely packed and felt too hectic. The outdoor was just right. Had good ambience, and the music wasn't too loud. There is a covered patio which was good. As for the food I have mixed reviews. I ordered the rigatoni which had pretty good flavors however also ordered a simple salad and it was soooo salty that I couldn't even eat it. I have never had a salad be that salty before. The waitress was very nice and immediately said she'll take it off the bill. The complimentary bread was great, it was hot and fresh but the marinara it came with also had a lot of salt! My partner ordered the chicken Marsala which we read on Yelp from a couple of reviewers may be too salty.. when we asked if we can reduce the salt in the dish we were told no. It just made me concerned that maybe things weren't being made to order if they can't simply remove a bit of salt. Also the service was kind of slow - we had to wait maybe 45 min for food and ended up being there for about 2 hours. I am really used to being in and out of restaurants in about 45 min so by the end I was ready to leave but trying to flag down the waitress for our check took quite some time. We got 2 orders of the garlic cheesy bread, which was maybe one of the garliciest things I've ever had & I loved it. For my main, I got the squid ink spaghetti with shrimp. I've been here one other time before this and I was impressed then. I had the garlic bread and it was phenomenal. Today I tried the Chicken Limone and a Caesar Salad. I only have a picture of my half eaten chicken limone because it was that good. The sauce it's in is not too lemon-y, not too bland. It has the right amount of flavor. It's simply *chefs kiss* I love capers and lemon flavored things so I may be biased, although I have heard that the Chicken Marsala is also good. I had to pick out a LOT of red/old pieces of lettuce from the Caesar Salad but overall it was okay. I had one the time before I came here and I didn't have that problem. I was sad to see they didn't have the olive oil cake anymore for dessert, so I decided not to get anything. I had some special tropical rum based drink they had, and it was nice and refreshing. The staff was nice and accommodating. They even remade my drink when there was something in it, with no trouble or incident. The bartender even apologized and I didnt even think that was necessary. I already loved this spot for dinner, but after trying their brunch a few weekends ago, I'm even more in love! The brunch starts at 10:30 on Saturday and Sunday. It's a pre fixe menu. You get all the starters listed for the table. The donuts are so good! Then everyone picks an entree. We got the French toast, croque Madame and eggs Benedict. The French toast was so good and so thick! Absolutely decadent! The croque Madame is so rich and filling! You'll get a ton a food, so don't worry about leaving hungry! The parking around here is always tricky. Unfamiliar to the area, we had to circle the block and try to look for parking. We found a mobile/online paid parking space in front of the Decatur Library and walk to the restaurant from there. The minimum hour to park there is 2 hours. The place has very nice decor and good ambience. Our server is friendly and attentive. It was a birthday dinner for my friend and we made reservation ahead on Open Table. Some of the dishes flavor is not what we expect, but not in a bad way. For example, we didn't expect garlic bread has spicy chili in it. One thing to keep in mind that aside from their sparkling menu, they won't mix drink out of the menu. When dining out like this, I normally ask for a fruity mocktail and often, the bartender will mix up something. They suggest the hibicus drink from the cocktail list since it has no alcohol (just ginger beer). I don't really like the taste of it. For food, we had: - Garlic bread: again, it has a tingling spicy flavor of chili in it. - Prosciutto di Parma - No.246 meat ball: it has one meat ball per order - Chicken Scallopini Parmesan - Whole roasted brazino: the server told me it was whole fish with head and bone in but I'm glad when it was served, it was already deboned. The fish is really good. - Shrimp scampi - Black Spaghetti: it goes with tomato sauce. My friend's mom didn't like it and we was able to exchange it for shrimp scampi. - Bianca pizza for to-go During the course of the dinner, we discover 2 ants and 1 fruit fly around our table area. I don't mind as much as I saw worse before but my friend's mother was pretty upset. The first time we saw the ant, we talked with the server and she apologized for it. But the second time when another ant crawled up on my friends, we brought it up to the manager. He apologized and by the end of the meal, some items are free of charge in our check. Use to be a lot better. Changed up something within the last 8 months or so and it has become average to below average. Chicken Parm use to be incredible with the chicken nice and tender with a bone on the end. Haven't seen that the last two times ive been. Now it has the breading fall off and incredibly dry. Cheesy garlic bread is still good but thats not a differentiator. Meatballs have gone down hill as well. Hopefully they get their act together with service as well, cause that use to be incredible. I will start by saying I went in a Wednesday night so it wasn't a long wait, but this is definitely a make reservation kinda restaurant if you what to secure a table during the weekend. The restaurant is very pleasant to the eye, it's just enough fancy! Host & Servers are A+ with great knowledge of the restaurant and menu. Table place setting was very clean and cute We ordered Wine, Apps & Entrées Apps -No. Meatball ( Chef's Kiss) -Cheese bread ( was cooked a little to crispy for my liking at the bottom, but over all really great flavor) - Calamari ( was so flavorful and tender. We traveled to no.246 for a double date night with friends an early evening. The restaurant is in the downtown Decatur area, and it's beautiful! Parking in the deck just around the corner wasn't bad at all. We sat outside in the backyard area which was super cute. Only downside to this area is that you can hear the music and singing from the pub next door, but it didn't bother us at all! You're outside so you'll hear other people outside. The service was very fast and our waiter was very friendly. We let them know that we had tickets later in the evening and they made sure that we were finished with our meals before we needed to leave. The food was excellent. We had the garlic bread (not pictured) and the peppers on top were super yummy. That cheese pull??? 10/10. We ordered 2 of the chicken parms (HUGE!), one steak entree with a side Caesar, and the spicy rigatoni w/ chicken. We also ordered the Hugo and vecchio style drinks. Everything was fantastic.
