I've been to Pam's Farmhouse Restaurant a few times now. It is located about a mile west of Interstate-440. It has been a Raleigh institution for nearly 30 years, serving breakfast and lunch with a focus on traditional Southern home cooking. It's a classic North Carolina country restaurant filled with regulars, simple furnishings, brick columns, ceiling fans, and happy diners enjoying long lunches. Restaurants like this are becoming increasingly rare. This restaurant is well known across North Carolina and much of the Southeast. I am always surprised by how many people throughout North Carolina, east and west, know of it and have eaten here. It has been featured on WRAL's Tar Heel Traveler series featuring Scott Mason. The inside reminds me of restaurants that were built in the 1970s and 1980s and simply never felt the need to modernize. The terrazzo-style floor, brick columns, vinyl chairs, and ceiling fans all contribute to an authentic, lived-in atmosphere. It feels like a place designed for regular customers who want to remain in a time of family-owned local restaurants with loyal employees who know many of their patrons by first name. Their menu is unique and includes all-day breakfast featuring hand-patted sausage, country ham, homemade biscuits, red-eye gravy, grits, pancakes, and omelets; daily lunch specials that, depending on the day, include fried chicken, barbecue chicken, meatloaf, fried catfish, country-style steak, hamburger steak, pork chops, fried seafood, and turkey with dressing and gravy. Fresh vegetables also change daily and often include collards, butter beans, cabbage, squash and onions, yams, cucumbers, black-eyed peas, and other Southern staples such as fried okra. Meals are served with biscuits and hush puppies, reinforcing the old-fashioned Southern diner experience. Today, I had roasted turkey with plenty of gravy over dressing. It came with cranberry sauce. You get two sides, and I had black-eyed peas and fried okra. The turkey was moist, and the gravy seemed homemade, covering the turkey as it rested on a bed of dressing. The fried okra had an even golden coating, and the black-eyed peas seemed slow-cooked and homemade. This is exactly what I've come to expect here. They always live up to their well-earned reputation as a place specializing in Southern comfort food. I drank a half-and-half mix of sweet and unsweetened iced tea. No need to ask for a refill; the pitchers of both are left on the table. But that doesn't mean you'll miss your waitress for very long; she'll check on you regularly. In other words, the service is every bit as good as the food, with plenty of old-fashioned Southern hospitality. Important things to consider when planning a trip: They only serve breakfast and lunch. They are open 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to noon on Saturday, and are closed Sunday and Monday. They accept cash and checks only--no credit cards, debit cards, Apple Pay, Venmo, or other electronic payment methods. The prices are reasonable enough that they won't break your wallet or checking account. There is an ATM on the premises for your convenience. I can't wait to go back. A group of 10 of us visited and we were all so happy with both the service and the food. I got the roast beef with potatoes,collards and squash. All was great except the squash, but it was just ok. Many of the others got the flounder plate and the piece of fish was huge. Everyone enjoyed the biscuits and hush puppies that were brought to the table while we were waiting for our orders. The food came out really quick, especially for them being so busy. The decor is country/western and your tea is served in a mason jar! Too cute! Pams was on my YELP list and via my bestie I dropped in solo 1st time but this visit he was with me. Service, food and feeling that NC foodie vibe which echoes my childhood was on. Our hostess lead us in stopping @ ATM IE REMEMBER ITS CASH ONLY NO TAP! Once seated we both skimmed menu that Saturday morning but I knew I'm going back to dwags. Homemade chilli, fries done in fresh oil, when I mentioned to server I could smell how fresh oil was she informed me they change oil daily and as someone with extremely sensitive allergies I was very impressed. True Bright Leaf weiner, steamed buns, coleslaw, homemade chilli plus onions reminded me so much of my DADDY who unfortunately passed 3 years ago. The food was fine. Had omelettes. Service was friendly. I wish that the menu made it clearer that debit and credit cards aren't accepted. I noticed a sign about that across the room while eating. I never carry cash. The ATM in the restaurant charges a $1 fee, but it was broken, so I had to use the ATM on the bar side, which charges a $3.50 fee. I'd rather have given that fee to the waitress. Not accepting cards will keep me from visiting Pam's Farm House again. read more

Parking lot is packed when you arrive. Don't let that scare you away, they seated us the moment we walked in the door. Their tea is still amazing.,Very freshly brewed and they still put the pitcher on the table! The staff is still happy and friendly everyone is telling you good morning and asking how you are. They are open 6-12 so at 9am I've ordered a cheeseburger ( they offer slaw and chili on it too). My son ordered 2 of those plate size pancakes and bacon and my friend ordered scrambled eggs and cheese grits and biscuits. From order to food arriving took only 12 minutes even though the parking lot was completely packed and so was the restaurant. Minutes from the fairgrounds it's a perfect place to eat before the Greek Festival! The restaurant is very quiet with all the people that were in here. We didn't even have to raise our voices. CASH ONLY. Letting non-local diners know since I don't carry an ATM card myself and luckily the Hubs had the cash or I would have ended up washing dishes! Lol. This is a good old-fashioned diner with many local patrons serving up Southern hospitality at its finest. I ordered the 2 egg breakfast with sausage patty, grits (of course) and biscuits. This was my first time I ever tried red eye gravy. Think of it as a savory salty unami flavor similar to coconut amino acids. A light sprinkling of it on grits was perfect. We had not just one fluffy biscuit but two per order! Enough to take home and it still tastes great the next morning. Plus, we tried the fatbacks which are similar to pork rinds. Yum! Our sweet server Tanya poured out the Southern hospitality like molasses over hot cakes! We never had an empty cup of coffee during our breakfast here. This place is a gem, along with everyone that works there!! I went for the first time after being told about it from a coworker. So we all went out for a lunch and had the best time. The menu is simple, breakfast served all day (they close at 2) and lunch. They have multiple seating areas, but it seemed like everyone was mingled in with each other. The food came fast (even for our large group) along with baskets of fluffy biscuits and hushpuppies. I ordered the BBQ Chicken with Hot Sauce (white meat) fries and apple sauce. The specials change daily and so do the sides/vegetables. The chicken was cooked to perfection and that sauce...holy moly, I could slather that on everything! The one draw back is that it is a CASH ONLY. They do have 2 ATMs, but yall, they charge (up to $5.25 for fees)...so if you can hit your regular ATM before you arrive, even better (i didnt have time to). Very very AVERAGE. Have eaten here several times as our friends insist on eating here because of their family tradition during football weekends...but they admit that the food is only SO SO. The portions are fine. We've tried many plates (beef tips, soups, chicken specials, sandwiches....) in the past and the flavors are generally over-salted. Sweet tea is spot on. Owner Pam is a very snooty and rude person. She thinks she and her restaurant is better than anyone and she owns the angus barn. They only take cash like this is 2026 not 1983. A LOT of seniors love this place. Portion sizes do not compensate for the overly greasy, hardly any spices food. It will fill a hole if you are on a budget.
