Dinner on a Wednesday evening with a few friends--they don't take reservations but there wasn't a wait around 6:30-7pm. They have happy hour drink specials until 7pm which was a good way to kick off the evening. Alcoholic drinks for HH $6-10 were good (according to my friends) as was the young coconut juice $4, which was slightly sweet and came with bits of coconut meat. For starters the spring rolls $8.50 and wings $10.00 were tasty. The spring rolls had a crispy fried exterior and savory filling, and paired well with the picked carrot/daikon mix that came with them. The deep fried wings were tender and came glazed with a yummy sweet and savory sauce. For mains we got the chicken pho $14.50, Nom Nam Nom pho $18, O.G. pho $14.50, banhmi $11 with a side of fries $3, and an order of Brussels sprouts $8.75. We all enjoyed our food, the pho broth is simmered for 25 hours according to their menu. The pork in the banhmi was-well marinated and the baguette crispy and fresh, decent fries too. I loved the Brussels sprouts, they're glazed in a garlic sweet chili sauce and amount in the bowl was good to share. We were too full for order dessert tho maybe next time. We are hard to please collectively and individually and I blame my momma for giving me an eclectic palate. My baby girl ordered the banh mi and y'all it's been 2-3 weeks-ish and she keeps asking me when are we going back lol. She said it was salty, crispy, hot and sweet (her favorite notes) and she loved that their banh mi veggies weren't deeply pickled and more fresh. She loved the French bread it came on. She also really loved the Mommas beef dumplings with lemon grass oil. I tasted one and it was different in an excellent way. My mom and I loved our wings. Crispy, nutty, savory. Highly recommend. We loved our pho broth and agreed it was authentic and absolutely did not need the poison, sriracha, chilli oil add ons. It was able to stand on its own. We added some anyway because-habits. Now, these salted coffees. Whew! Vietnamese coffee is not for the weak! That salted cream paired with a strong coffee tasted very similar to a salted dark chocolate. Between the two, I'd definitely recommend the O.G; the Nom Nam pho is a little more expensive but I felt like there was actually a lot more protein in the O.G! I also really loved the brisket (just undercooked enough, so so good) in the O.G, while the meatballs in the Nom Nam were just okay. Didn't think the bone marrow in the Nom Nam added much as well. The thai tea was pretty good -- would love to try their homemade sodas next time! Each bowl came with a side of the usual veggies. The broth was delicious and flavorful. It's said on the menu the broth is simmered for 20+ hours. The bone marrow is a great addition and was buttery and tasty. Their lychee soda was great and a perfect accompaniment to the savory hot broth. Service was quick and very friendly. For such a robust food city, NYC doesn't really have a lot of good pho places, but I think Nom Nam is one of the better Vietnamese places I had in the city. They are still in their soft opening stages, but I thought the service was impeccable. We arrived 10 minutes before they opened, but they were nice enough to let us inside. Interior is very bright and modern for a pho restaurant. They had red lanterns hanging from the ceiling (not sure if its a permanent decor piece or if it was just for LNY), which added a nice pop of color. The food menu is pretty basic - not a lot of options, but I was really here to try the pho. Portion sizes are pretty generous - if you order the O.G. Pho, you get a ton of meat. Broth is very light and clean - there's no greasy film that you can get at other pho places, which is a huge plus. There's only one option for noodles (thin rice sticks), but I overhead that they might add other options in the future. I also tried the Vietnamese coffee and it was delicious! It wasn't too sweet, but had the perfect amount of caffeine to kickstart the day. Checkout process was very seamless - you can pay via your smartphone which is really handy. Ordered lunch delivery off Grubhub and it was exactly what I needed after a night out. Pho is my typical recovery food, but I think a banh mi plus broth from Nom Nam might be my new go-to. The banh mis are some of the softest banh mis I've ever eaten, none of that scrape the roof of your mouth crunchiness (which I appreciate sometimes but not when hungover lol). The bread still has a nice bite and I like that it came warm even with delivery. The chicken and pork were both delicious with great flavor on the meat. The ham and pate is also a great choice with the typical Vietnamese cold cuts and the perfect amount of pate. I love that they serve broth as a side without having to order an entire bowl of pho. The chicken broth is rich but not overpoweringly so, with great depth of flavor. I just drink it straight out of the takeout container and feel healed afterwards :) read more
