I did not like the attitude of the plumber who came to my home. I had to tell him that I wanted the shower head to be replaced also even though it was part of the faucet package. He also said he left the old shower head on downspout because the new one was shorter - but he did not show that to me. I took the part out and it was the same size. I asked him to look at sink plumbing - which he did - but he said he would not touch it and that I would not be able to find a plumber who would. It just felt like he did not want to do the work. When I found that the drain knob did not work after his visit ( which did work prior to his visit) he emphatically it was not his fault and would not even look to see the problem. My inspection turned up silver filings that fell into the knob opening. That was because of him not covering it as he welded. He threatened to walk out of my house when I expressed my frustration - he said I raised my voice. Totally dissatisfied with experience. read more

Mike at the office was able to get me set up for the next day, but then he called me back half an hour later to say that one of his plumbers finished up early and was able to come out right away. I had a very positive experience with Norblom Plumbing. My toilet needed a new Closet Bend (pipe that connects the toilet to the sewer stack). The pipe was over 100 years old (original cast iron) and had corroded to the point where it was leaking to the ceiling below. First we called Minneapolis Saint Paul Plumbing Heating Air and they wanted to charge us $1800 "if everything went smoothly with the pipe fix" and $2800 if there were any issues. He said the job should take 4-8 hours, Even though we were without a toilet, we opted to get a second opinion. So we called Norblom. They bill on time and materials in 15 minute increments so you don't end up paying an extra hour when the job took 2 hours and 10 minutes. Norblom got our job done in 4 hours and charged us under $500 for both the pipe and a sink snake. We did have to wait a day and a half for the right guy for our job to be available but it was well worth the fantastic service and value we received. read more

Called them to come out to replace our water heater. Exchanged several photos and emails of our current setup to confirm they'd be able to do the replacement and have the new unit ready to go. They assured us there would be no problem and they could have it done when we scheduled. I took a half day off work. They came out and after spending literally 2 minutes in our home they said they couldn't install today and that we should consider another style of water heater. Went back to their van and spent another 8 minutes writing a much more costly estimate so they could justify their $99 trip charge. 2 minutes of "work" for $99 - not bad at all. Called another plumber and had the work done in two hours later that week. Pathetic service from Norblom. read more

Called them to fix a leaky kitchen faucet, was able to get an appointment next day and they did fix the problem. Very pricy though, the guy spent 35 mins and charged $137 labor and another $92 for parts. They charged 2-3 times normal price for parts. read more

I am new to this area. I needed plumber for emergency replacement of a washer catch pan that was broken by company that delivered my new washer. I checked online reviews and saw consistently high praise for this family owned business . I called Norbloom late afternoon and they sent a plumber (Andrew ) out the NEXT DAY ! Even though this was a big job involving cutting out part of laundry floor and locating non-standard parts , he got the job done in two hours with the help of a colleague who collected parts and delivered them to the house as Andrew continued to do the prep work . These guys clearly coordinated and worked well together for efficient /timely repair. Also overheard conversations with the central scheduling and learned that this company is very concerned with getting to next job on time , but holds doing the job right as highest priority. And ps he even cleaned up entire area before he left ! This company has earned the five star rating ! read more

Called Norblom for a problem with my toilet...it is the only toilet in my house and it wasn't working. They sent someone over right away and got it working again. Very quick to respond and do the work. The tech was very friendly and so was the office. The only thing was the tech asked if I had any coupons. I didn't realize that, when calling for service you need to ask for the online discount. They are coming to fix something else next week....I'm hoping that since I'm a new customer and am having them do more work, they will give me a discount. Norblom was great. We had a leaky valve that was rusted out (or something) and we (my husband) couldn't fix. Norblom had great reviews so we went with them. They are really expensive, but the guy who worked on our house was literally running up and down the stairs and to and from his van. This meant A LOT to me since we paid by the half hour. Norblom Plumbing charges more than $180 per hour (Feb 2016). I like to buy and hire local and recently moved St. Paul, MN. I was looking for a plumber and saw an advertisement for Norblom Plumbing in the area newspaper. This company is located on Selby and I went against the rule of getting at least three bids knowing that contractors can be all over the place with ability and pricing. I hired them to move a laundry tub, washer and dryer, bring the sewer venting up-to-code, add a new dryer vent, and permits. On the telephone, I was told that it would cost, "about $1,500," which sounded fair. A plumber showed up on time but said that the sewer venting was fine and a permit was not needed, so it would be, "a lot less than $1,500." At the end of the six hours that it took him, I was presented an invoice of $1,588. The plumber danced around with words when I questioned him on the bill, saying that the office decided that the work that he did was more than he thought. I paid him but because he didn't make any changes to the sewer venting, did not add the new dryer vent, and I didn't have to pay for a permit as originally quoted, I was feeling stung. After looking carefully over the invoice, I discovered that I was billed $181.50 per hour. I called the office to see if this was correct and they said that I was billed for TIME AND MATERIALS and their time is $45 on 15-minute increments. This rate was never presented in writing or verbally until after the work was completed and I never would have agreed to such a high rate. The manager said that he would speak with the people who gave me the initial quote and the plumber who did the work and then get back to me. That was two weeks ago and I have not heard from anyone at Norblom Plumbing. After researching the going rate for plumbers in St. Paul, I learned that $80-$125/hr is usual, depending on the work and ability of the plumber. I have more plumbing work and will not hire Norblom Plumbing in the future. My advise to homeowners looking to hire a plumber (or any contractor), get at least three quotes and make them tell you their TIME RATE before you agree to hire them. read more

I sent an email asking a question about an older model faucet cartridge and received a reply the very next day. I was able to get an appointment within a couple of days. Jim came out (called as he was early, even!), had the part in his truck (helped that I had told them what part), and replaced the cartridge. Because I live in a condo, Jim had to work with the maintenance folks to get the water shut off and on. He was very pleasant, helpful, and worked quickly to make up for time lost dealing with the very slow condo maintenance man. Pricing was exactly as they said it would be - set price for the first half hour and for every 15 minutes after that. Worth every penny (and cheaper than the condo's plumber of choice who was here last time.) Even gave me an estimate for having the whole fixture replaced if parts are no longer available. I hired Norblom to clean my kitchen drain last month. They found a pipe that needed replacing in the process of the drain cleaning, so I hired them to replace the pipe. The plummer who did the work fitted the new pipes in such a way that I could not pull the spray nozzle out more than 6 inches. So he came back out to fix the issue which he did, but left the fitting between the sink and the hose completely detached. A different plummer was sent to repair that issue. He told me that the nozzle was broken and inferred that I should just buy a whole new sink. I reminded him that the nozzle was not broken before the other plummer from his company touched it. He was rude and defensive in his response asking what it would take to make me happy...like that was somehow a mystery. I told him that I wanted a spray nozzle that worked the way it did before the last service. He replaced it with a used sprayer that looks a bit old and outdated, but at least it works. I will not hire this company again. read more
