We recently had NorCal Water Heaters install a Rinnai tankless. Their bid was very competitive, but it wasn't just the price that won me over. Daniel was upfront regarding the issues we might have with the unit's built in recirculation "intelligence". Rather than pushing the optional WiFi unit ($300+), he suggested looking online as the install is relatively simple. I paid quite a bit less on Amazon. We met both him and Victor who did our installation. Victor even came back on his day off because he took pictures of the installation and decided there was room for improvement! I highly recommend that you consider this firm for your project. While they may have fewer reviews on Yelp!, they are a Rinnai Pro installer--and they're very good with their commitments. For example, they were the only installer that committed to a $100 rebate from the manufacturer. It required some digging on Daniel's part, but he came through on finding the necessary Rinnai Pro coupon for that rebate. We're happy with the outcome. It uses less natural gas than our tank water heater (we had a bathtub that we couldn't use because of its capacity). Note that the Bay Area Air Quality Management District has regulations in place that would require all water heaters in the next year or so to be electric heat pump. Hopefully, that'll be reversed with public pressure. read more

We hired Daniel to help us install a new Rinnai tankless water heater and the process was pretty smooth. Want to leave this review as an appreciation. Daniel was very approachable, texted him and he was to able to provide a very fair quote based on the pictures I sent him. He showed up on the day as we scheduled, took out the old heater with tank, installed the new tankless water heater, did all the piping, installed the recirculation bypass valve in the master bedroom, cleaned up after himself and even registered the device for us. The plumbing job was done very professionally as far as I can tell and he worked around a couple awkward spots in my garage, please check out the attached pictures. It's been about 2 weeks since the installation, no leakage and we get hot water, I even noticed an improvement on the water flow, I think my old heater was acting as a bottleneck to my entire water line. Daniel of Norcal is a pleasure to work with. He is very skilled in his trade, knows the codes and rebates/credit well, charges reasonably. He is also very responsive on the phone, text and email. Highly recommend. My 19 years old Rheem gas water heater finally gave in and I took the opportunity to upgrade to a more efficient heat pump water heater (HPWH) that's also good for the environment. After I ordered another Rheem HPWH from Home Depot I started to look for installers. (Knowing what I know now, I should have contacted plumbers first.) Daniel from Norcal is one of only four "Pro Plumber" in the bay area listed on Rheem's web site, so he is one of the three plumbers I asked for a quote. While talking with Daniel, I learned that if I get the water heater through him, not only the price will be significantly less (with Golden State $900 rebate) but also the contractor model is more durable. So I decided to refuse delivery on my HD order (which took about two to three weeks to get my money back. ). Daniel is very familiar with all the rebates and credits that's available in my area. The price he quoted was very reasonable and the total project cost after all the rebates and tax credit is less than the cost of the heater itself. He also has an electrician he works with who helps with the electrical part of the work at a reasonable cost. It's not usual to see an electrician using a level all the time and painted the wall with home depot matched paint. The rebate from SVCE covers most of the electrcian's cost. I ended up installed a HPWH from Bradford White, which from my own research and confirmed by Daniel, is of better quality than both Rheem and A O Smith (worst). The installation is divided into two parts, first the electrical work, than the HPWH installation. Daniel also helped with the city permit (at reasonable extra cost) . The only problem during the installation was due to a bad mixing valve, which Daniel came back and replaced in a few days without any interuption in hot water usage. My new water heater passed city inspection without any issue and I have been happily using it exclusively in heat pump mode only.
