A++ What can I say? I took my basic 2017 Audi A3 to get a diagnosis for a coolant leak which Mike was able to quickly diagnose as a water pump failure. Not only did he fix my problem, he was able to provide maintenance (Transmission, Haldex AWD system) that was long overdue. While inspecting my car, he found that my brakes were very close to being worn out and replaced the rotors and brake pads. I figured I might as well upgrade my performance and he was able to provide an APR Stage 1 tune to my car without any issue. I practically had my car returned to me in better condition than when I bought it. His attention to detail is something I've never experienced before at a mechanic shop. An example of that is using an external power supply during my ECU tune so that the voltage fluctuations wouldn't fry the car's computer! As an amateur car person, I asked a lot of questions about the value of certain parts/services and he was able to answer everything without trying to sell me anything. Probably owed to the fact that he has a long history of working with race vehicles. What I thought would take a week or two to fix, he managed to complete a diagnosis, repair, maintenance and tune in 3 days. The cherry on top is that the price for labor was highly competitive (bye Audi dealership) and the transparency was a breath of fresh air. I had a fantastic experience with Mike, who owns and operates Nordküste. I was looking for a professional to modify my 1-series BMW. I contacted Mike and it was a terrific experience from beginning to end. He spent at least 30-45 minutes of his time on the phone going over options and also some emails besides. It took awhile for the parts to come in, but once they arrived I was able to get my car into Mike quickly. After I met him in person, he showed me his shop and the parts that he would be installing. During the process, he emailed me updates with photos attached, and when he found a worn part he emailed me a photo of it and replaced it. His prices were reasonable and my car drives great. I went for an hour drive the day I got it back, and I was grinning ear to ear, like the day I first received the car almost five years ago. Oh, and he's a super nice guy. My experience here was fine at first, until I had my cars engine seize the day after getting it back when I only put 30 miles on it. When I left a review with less stars my review was hidden so I was forced to give more stars. I had taken in my 2013 VW CC with the 2.0 TSI in for a very small oil leak diagnosis at 80,000 miles. I payed the bill and got the car back, Mike was good to interact with and seemed very knowledgeable, it had no issues other than the oil leak. The oil cooler and some other parts needed to be taken apart, I had Mike do a carbon cleaning on the intake valves also as the intake needed to come off. On the ride home on the highway hitting a bit higher than 3500 rpm things sounded a bit different than I remembered but what could be wrong, my car was just at a Euro mechanic and had the carbon cleaned out. The next day I drove the car only 2 miles around my city and I noticed it was getting a bit bad gas mileage but nothing crazy. Then I had used my car later again in the day to go to the gym and started it up and it started making ticking as the rpm's increased. The car gave no check engine light or oil pressure light, the car was never low on oil either when it was given to this shop, i'm knowledgeable about cars and have done plenty of work to this car myself. I was very close to home and drove it home and shut it off, the car never started again and had no check engine light other than a "starter motor is mechanically blocked or has mechanically malfunctioned", which only appeared after the car would not start. Towed it back to Mikes shop and he had it for so long I started to wonder what was going on. Well it turned out he went on a 10 day holiday break without telling me after the car had already been towed back to his shop. So 20 days later I don't get a diagnosis, I receive a repair estimate for installing a used engine with 10,000 mileage more than the car had, with a new timing chain for a whopping 6800 dollars, and only a lousy 3 month warranty, no sorry was given on top of it all. He didn't offer any discount of any sort or offer a true diagnosis other than "I think it spun a bearing" after finding metal pieces in the oil pan. Taking this to small claims court would have been a headache in itself so I had another shop install a used engine with a new timing set, 13k miles lower than the engine mike had, a year warranty that INCLUDED LABOR, and all for 1000 dollars less than what Mike offered. No way I was paying this guy to install a high mile motor with a bad warranty for 7 grand, after he had just given my car back to me and it failed the next day. I'll give him a small benefit of the doubt that the car had a prior issue that just happened to occur after I left the shop. It's very hard to see it that way as there was no diagnosis on the motor and the fact I have driven this car on far trips along with constantly checking the oil level and topping as needed and only ever had a issue of a flat tire until it got the tiny oil leak it came in for. Mike also would not reply to the emails sent to him asking about what happened to the car etc, everything was over calls only. read more

I was specifically looking for someone who specialized in German cars after going to another auto shop previously to try to get a leak fixed. After 4 visits to the other shop, it still wasn't fixed, which was when I stumbled upon Mike's shop and BOY am I glad I did! I am happy to say my leak is FINALLY fixed thanks to Mike! His pricing is very fair and he is extremely honest and transparent about what is being done to your car. He will go the extra mile for you and even took my husband and I into his shop to show us the parts he replaced on my Jetta. It is a huge perk that he is a 1 man shop and does all the work, so you know it's being done right! I have a relatively low mileage 40 year old Porsche 911SC that needed a major service, and lots of odds and ends to bring it up to shape. I originally looked into having a large nearby Porsche dealer do the work, but amazingly they won't touch a car of that vintage. Fortunately I ended up finding out about Mike and Nordkuste through the app NextDoor. And glad I did. Mike and his team put a lot of work into the car, and did a great job - it drives and feels better than it has in years. Mike is meticulous, detail oriented, and keeps you apprised of what's happening with your vehicle. And while I don't have a direct head to head comparison, I'm fairly certain that even if I could have taken it to the dealer it would have cost me at least 50% more than Nordkuste. Nordkuste is a terrific shop, and my recent experience having my '88 Vanagon serviced there was flawless. I really appreciated the shop tour that Mike Pottle, the owner, gave me and how he walked me through the work he was doing on my Vanagon along the way. I was really surprised at how reasonably priced the service was! Mike's labor rate is very reasonable - A lot of places would have just gouged me for how long the work *could* have reasonably taken them and not how long they *actually* spent on the work. That Mike charged me only for the time the work took really left me with a great deal of trust in his integrity and business model, and the quality of the work he did in his clear skill as a master mechanic.
