The space is austere, modern with clean lines and subtle tones...nothing to distract you from why you're here...high quality temaki, or hand rolls served quickly and efficiently. Bar seating only with about 15 total spots. QR code placards are placed at every bar stool which lead you yo the menu on your phone. Place your order and viola...the food starts arriving. Items we sampled: 1. Hamachi carpaccio with jalapeño and shoyu. Very tasty and fresh. Thinly sliced chiles with cilantro garnish gave the fish a nice kick. 2. Spicy Ahi. Plump and fresh. The spice level was very understated so as not to overpower the fish. 3. Hamachi with Shiso Leaf. I love shiso and its unique flavor that compliments fresh fish so well. 4. Maguro. Deep rich flavor with a sweet soy painted on the fish before rolling. My favorite of the bunch. 5. Blue Crab. Crab and mayo combined with cucumbers elevated this humble dish. 6. Kizami Wasabi. We ordered this special condiment on the side. It's true wasabi root chopped and marinated with soy. You will never want the green knob of wasabi paste again. Staff is friendly and super helpful. They were able to accommodate some special requests for my dining partner in crime without any hesitation. It really means a lot to us snd we are so grateful. Located across from the Club Pilates and Walea by Salon Glitter, Nori Bar Hawaii is serving up delicious and made-to-order handrolls. My friend and I were able to make reservations on Yelp. We loved that we were also able to order directly from the QR code and could either pay by seat or under one tab. We tried the Hokkaido Crab, Uni, Unagi, Hamachi and Spicy Handrolls. We also did the sashimi platter. The fish was so fresh! Everything was delicious. We also drank some sake to go with the meal. This is a pricey place, but you get what you pay for. I also recommend purchasing a side of the yuzu ponzu sauce, it went so well and added another level of flavor to the dish! Ambiance was giving chill omakase vibes as the restaurant seats 12. The prices are reasonable for high quality fish and unique rolls. I took this box to my nieces volleyball game and it was so easy to eat out of (not to mention super cute)! My fav roll was the spicy scallop roll. The shoyu that it came was wasn't enough for my 5 roll order so I would recommend ordering extra soy sauce packets. This review is solely for takeout of their soft-opening special...3.8 stars. Easy ordering through the Toast app and could request curbside pick up. Was a little iffy on curbside pick up as it's a one lane in, one lane out street, but because it's a dead end (for now), it works to pull up curbside. Pulled up, parked, and waited. Waited some more, but no one came out. I know the guy in the front saw me, as he made eye contact, but nothing. I tried calling their number, but it went straight to a message about their wait-list. Looked on the Toast app, if I could notify them that I was there, but couldn't find anything. So, walked in to pick up my order. Though it was about 10 minutes past pick up, the host in the front said that the "rice was still cooking, so it'd take 5 more minutes." I was already peeved about the traffic getting there and the initial lack of curbside attention, so this didn't make it any better. Walking back to my car, the manager/owner(?) who was bringing in items, asked me if I had a curbside pick up and if I had let them know I was here. While waiting in my car, the manager/owner came down to explain the situation with the rice. That communication I truly appreciated as a customer, and the communication I should have gotten from the host, who should have come out from the start. Graciously, he also handed me two canned drinks and apologized for the wait. The food itself was well packaged and presented. I loved the having choice of either shoyu or yuzu for dipping, as well as a wasabi and kizami for a bit of "spiciness." The salmon, hamachi, and spicy ahi were fresh. Wasn't too impressed with the cucumber, as it was quite plain... I'm thinking kampyo would make for a better maki. Additionally, the rice was a tad firm for my liking. There was definitely a chew to it, and my first bite made me think the rice was a touch undercooked. However, hubby liked the harder rice...just a matter of preference. Finally tried this place with a friend since hearing it opened up! I definitely recommend if you are craving some solid hand rolls. Reasonable prices for each. Seating is bar seating style but it allows you watch the chefs prepare each of the rolls. When they say no reservations, you line up 10-15 minutes before opening just in case...I'm not too entirely sure if they'll take reservations in the near future but for now, I shall be an early bird. We were second to be seated; barely 15 minutes have passed since opening and the place was filled! I think there's only 15 seats? The last time I had this kind of experience was in Los Angeles so I was sooooo ready. Each seat has their own QR code tab that you can order from -- supposedly you could combine seat orders to make it into one tab but we had trouble figuring that out so we just ordered from one phone. We were hella hungry (mostly me) and I got 8 rolls, Hamachi Carpaccio to share, and Dassai Sake. It doesn't sound like much but I was actually pretty content! It's possible I could have eaten more but I was at a good level where I didn't have to drag myself out of there. My fave rolls were definitely the Crab, Unagi, and Hamachi (because of the yuzu ponzu sauce) but I still enjoyed the rest as well! On average, it was around $6ish for a hand roll. The workers were super nice and gave us a little brief overview of how they came about and the pride they take in their nori. It definitely lives up to its name because that is one of the freshest/crispiest nori I've ever had. My friend was getting full halfway and when she didn't eat her rolls right away, they were surprisingly still crispy! I'd definitely would love to come back again and hope they get to expand their menu or do seasonal choices. Hooooo, harsh a 2...why a 2? Because I do not recall having any wet wipe or hand sanitizer available when every single order needs to be put in via smart phone. Talk about unsanitary. Maybe they could implement how in Japan they have those UV sanitizing spaces for your phone, but adding that would just drive up the price even further. I'd give a 1 for potentially spreading germs like wildfire, but I did enjoy the yuzukosho scallop handroll. Quality is pretty good. Pricing is pretty high for what it is. Terrible experience and service, never coming here again. It's one of the worst dinning experiences that I've had. It's surprising to me that other people are raving about the service, when that was the worst part of the experience....Maybe it's the way me and my family look? The energy in the restaurant was off from the time we walked in. This blonde haole cashier was rude from the beginning as she seemed to be upset that we didn't make a reservation, and with a rude ass tone, she mentioned she recommends it because they only have x amount of seats.... Mind you there we only TWO people sitting and it was completely empty. Plus we are in a hurricane watch, so of course no one would want to go out and about. She only refilled our water one time, and never provided any customer service, or ever asked if we needed anything, not even once. Her butt was sticking out facing us the entire time, while she was doing literally nothing at the cash register. THEN there's the sushi chef, that also ignored us and wasn't very friendly. He never asked if we needed anything either. My husband ordered 4 hand rolls, and none of them came. So he was over it and didn't even eat anything. I didn't finish my food, because I was upset at the situation as well. No one seemed to care once it was addressed to them. I don't recommend this restaurant. Food A- Service A Ambiance B Would have been 5 stars if the music wasn't so uncomfortably loud. I came in early on a weekday during their happy hour and was not disappointed. I didn't get a pic of the happy hour platter that comes with assorted sashimi and a roll for roughly $30. The happy hour platter is a steal. It came with uni and ikura on top of a sashimi medley (maguro, hamachi and salmon) and an in house version of a spicy ahi roll. The platter alone would've been enough for a meal for one person. Their torched ahi tower was also delicious and filling. It came with a stack of crisp nori for you to make your own hand rolls - a great deal during happy hour. The happy hour hamachi carpaccio was also tasty and fresh, but not necessarily outstanding in any way. The hand rolls we got were all delicious, with options to customize rice amount. The crab roll was packed with real crab which was a nice departure from the imitation crab offered at many places these days. The scallop was fresh and sweet. Both the hamachi and maguro rolls were fresh but the happy hour dishes really overshadowed them. We were served all the other dishes first before someone made the rolls to order at the bar. In the future I would suggest asking for the rolls first as they are less seasoned and their subtle flavors would be better before having heavily seasoned dishes. They have a $60 omakase with pricier items available to add which for Ward isn't a bad deal at all. The ambience is cute and the bar was inviting however the noise levels were insane for an early weekday afternoon. There was only one other party seated at the opposite end of the bar but the acoustics along with ridiculously loud music made it uncomfortably loud. Music doesn't need to be at ear splitting volumes. Overall it was tasty and a nice dining experience, might bring ear plugs next time. read more
