    House Green Salad, Clear Soup
    Auggie L.

Went for Monday-Saturday Lunch Special Food - 5/5. The salad has a tasty dressing with crisp vegetables. The clear soup was super bland almost to the point of tasting like water; I definitely recommend avoiding it and getting the miso soup instead. The fried items here are really good! The gyoza, banana and shrimp tempura all had really crispy, golden brown skins with a soft inside. The sushi rolls are firm and delicious. Service - 4/5. Friendly and efficient. Service was quick. Value - 5/5. The super combo lunch is great and stands out from competitors by giving you a choice of appetizers and two roll choices from almost the entire roll menu. $13 for the set is a great deal with such variety! I had gotten a vegan ramen (not pictured), it was alright. I didn't realize the dish came with corn so that was my mistake for not asking about it. The ramen was slightly salty, almost unnoticeable. My daughter got plain broth with noodles, she loved it, did not complain about the salt level. We got a mochi donut and mochi ice cream for dessert the donut was really oily, we couldn't finish it between 4 of us. Literally just took one bite to try but that's it, kinda disappointing. The ice cream was really nice, chewy outside layer and cool ice cream inside. The service was excellent, really attentive staff and super helpful. I would definitely recommend this spot.

I am not sure if she is new or not, but she was not attentive and also very slow. All I wanted was to get my check and pay and leave before the storm hit. She was talking to the new tables for a long long time. We ended up taking the check and paid up front. Basically we waited 10 minutes just to get the check. The restaurant should train their staff to keep the check with them, or have the remote credit card machine. When the customer asked for the check, the staff should be ready to provide in a timely manner. I will still come back, but will be more smart to ask for the check way ahead of time.

I went with the 12 piece Omakase without Eel and enjoyed every piece (no soy sauce or wasabi, just chefs choice). My husband loved the Umai Big Special roll. Service was great. No rushing like many NJ restaurants and very helpful servers. Our high top table was right next to the sushi bar so we could see and hear what was going on. Next visit I definitely want to be at the bar. The restaurant is small and intimate. Definitely lots of "regulars" with relationship with the owner/chef. He was very friendly to us from afar. I would love to be a regular, it's just too pricey for my weekly budget but definitely worth every penny. If you eat sushi in NJ you've got to try it. Plus there's a great video about the restaurant and owner I found online.

It's the kind of place that feels thoughtfully designed without trying too hard. Our waiter was incredibly welcoming and friendly, which set a great tone for the meal. For drinks, we ordered the Raspberry Moon and a matcha latte. Both were colorful, well-presented, and really tasty, a nice way to start the meal. The food itself was an experience. We ordered the temaki set and got to learn how to assemble our own hand rolls, which made the meal interactive and fun. The sushi arrived in a beautiful presentation and everything tasted fresh and high quality. Overall, it was a memorable dining experience with great service, creative drinks, and delicious food. Definitely a spot worth checking out in Montclair.

The reservation required a credit card but I was able to mention a birthday. We were seated right away at a nice window table with a bench, which made it easy to fit everyone. We ordered a bunch of small plates and not a single miss: Tuna Crudo -- fresh, simple, and kid-approved Japanese Potato Salad with Ikura -- lightly creamy with a salty, briny pop Asari Clam Soup -- loaded with clams, miso; buttery and comforting Furikake Cottage Fries -- hot, round crispy ridges with a ketchup-y dip, very snackable for everyone Spicy Tuna Dip -- gone in about 60 seconds For the temaki (hand rolls), they recommend 5 per person. They do something a little different and honestly pretty fun. The fillings come out on flat sticks in a wooden holder (kinda like a taco stand), and you get boxes of nori (seaweed sheets) on the side. You slide the filling onto the seaweed yourself and eat it right away, so everything stays nice and crisp. It's a little DIY, but in a good way. While they offer 3 Temaki preselected sets, you can also order a la carte. I went with the Signature Set (tuna poke, XO scallop, coconut shrimp, salmon serrano, cucumber black sesame) and was really happy with it. We also got also got 2 sets of California rolls for the girls. My brother's Everything Bagel hand roll was a fun surprise. It tasted just like one. We finished with the Lemon Curd Churros- fresh, hot, and crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The curd was a little on the firm side, but still good. Everyone left full and delighted. NOTES/TIPS: **BYOB, Wheelchair-accessible. Clean bathrooms. Modern vibes. **Entire menu is gluten-free **Vegan options available if you ask, plus a strong plant-based roll selection **Plan for ~5 hand rolls per person (including the kids) **Several parking decks a block or two away
