A friend suggested we eat at Nori for a quick dinner and a glass of wine (it is byob). It was an early dinner and the rain kept people away as it was very quiet. Service was welcoming and the place had a family atmosphere. Everyone was friendly and we were nicely taken care of. We ordered edamame and sushi and sashimi for two. There was plenty of sashimi (about 15 pieces), a dozen Negiri pieces and three rolls. We also had a couple of salads and edamame. Price was less than $60...well worth it. Sashimi was nicely presented on a boat and was tasty. Salmon was the fattier cut which I like and tuna was medium level. The rolls were creative and had some cooked and tempura elements which gave both a rich taste and texture. Negiri was really nice with the traditional salmon etc but also included clam and a few variations of tuna. Presentation was nice and the boat was full. Will go back. By the way, the Lynch Bage 2002 was exquisite! read more

So the first thing I have to say is this is one of the worst sushi/sashimi places I've had. When you bit into a piece of fish and it exudes water that's pretty bad. The fish is obviously not fresh and not properly prepared. The california roll isare not very good. It's obvious the rice is not prepared correctly. The sushi rice is probably more on par what you would find in a supermarket where it's been sitting there in the cold for a while. So if you want decent sushi this is not the place to go. The cooked food fares a bit better. It's average - not bad. The tempura and pork katsu is ok. You get what you pay for unfortunately and I would never go back to this place again. I don't expect the same quality as a place in NYC where a sushi/sashi combo would run you a minimum of $16, but come on.... In terms of service, I didn't have any issues. They're not particularly friendly but I didn't experience any issues either. I didn't expect 5 star service here so no issues. There's a Japanese place across the street that I plan on trying. Hopefully that turns out to be better. read more

First visit tonight on recommendation from one of my daughters. Great miso soup and the creamy dressing on the salad was to die for. We ordered a combination of some sushi rolls, the box and tempura and a side of chicken fried rice. All were excellent! Pricing was about what I would expect and service was fast and friendly. we have been searching for a moderately priced sushi restaurant and i think we found one. read more

This is by far the best sushi place in the area. Don't be confused with the Nori in Montclair; they are not the same place. The one in Caldwell has amazing sushi and great entrées. Also, you have to try the noodles, I get them plain with a little garlic, really great stuff. read more

I am a big fan of Nori and have been ordering from this location for over 4 years. Have not been great at consistently checking in but I am not sure the app would let me based on distance (will check next time). While I have tried numerous spots nearby where the quality is "ok" and there is variability between visits, that had not been the case with Nori. My wife and I absolutely love the creamy salad dressing and recently upgraded to the large salad with out orders so we don't fight over lettuce when we finish too fast. The options are also terrific since you can do sushi, bento, and even hibachi. My go-to is the Szechuan chicken (spicy) with extra noodles since my kids would otherwise eat all of mine. Sushi and salad for the wife. If the kids end up eating with us then we get the chicken hibachi to split. It really works out to get all of these options available from one place and where you get the consistently quality and flavor every time. read more

I eat at Nori for the first time this past Friday 4/13/2012. The Ocean Roll was okay but nothing to write home about...the chicken fried rice was delicious and the Philadelphia roll was delicious. As for the Service it was horrible our waitress never came out and checked on our table and then our waitress disappeared into the back (kitchen I'm assuming) we had to wait about 35 minutes before receiving our check and then another 35 minutes to pay the actual check. The staff is not friendly at all! read more

Very good place. The inexpensive lunch special is very good. Soup, salad, appetizer, and sushi for under $15. The sushi is always fresh and the service is great. my only complaint is getting a single can of soda with my food. I usually eat my sushi with hot sauce so I definitely need more than 12 oz. The hibachi noodles are excellent also. I highly recommend eating here. read more

If you want a great meal, atmosphere and pleasant experience, don't go to Nori in West Caldwell. I have gone a few times with my family and each visit, we noticed the service was unfriendly and cold. The food was good and it's convenient and close to home. That is why we kept returning. They also forgot to add a topping on my sushi at a previous visit. The last straw was when my family last went for a quick bite. It was 8:00 on a Wednesday night and we order the minute we arrived because we were hungry and tired. The restaurant was empty. My son was finishing his meal, the waiter brought the check and stood on top of us. I thought it was strange. We quickly paid the bill and the waiter told us he needed the table. We were the only 4 people the restaurant and he interrupted our conversation to say that someone called and wanted that particular table. I was so disappointed that after coming to this place for the past 2 years, our business was clearly not important to them. Not a smart move for any business to treat paying customers so rude. This area has hundreds of great restaurants. We will NEVER step foot in Nori in West Caldwell. I suggest all readers to consider avoiding a place that doesn't value your business! read more

Rolls seemed very creative, but the ingredients didn't seem particularly fresh, the pinapple on one roll was canned pineapple, the fried banana on another roll was not ripe enough and it wasn't tempura fried like you'd expect... the shumai weren't great either... read more

I cannot say enough about how poorly I was treated over a simple pickup order at Nori Caldwell. When I placed my order over the phone, I asked that the ingredients in the "Bugs Bunny" roll be fresh instead of fried as indicated on the menu. The man taking my order over the phone said that could be done. On my way to pickup the order, a woman from Nori called and said she did not understand my order - what ingredients did I want included, what did I want excluded, what did I want fried, and what did I want fresh inside the "Bugs Bunny" roll - she was pleasant enough and again said this would be no problem. When I arrived to pickup the order and finished paying, I was verbally accosted by the original man who took my order. Believe it or not, he ACTUALLY YELLED at me saying I had him very confused, that I am not good at reading menus and need to read the menu more carefully next time, and that I need to be more clear when I call to order. Despite the extremely shocking and disproportionate reaction, I apologized for the confusion, yet he continued to scold me and would not drop the issue. As I left with my order and told him to have a good night, he did not reply and rudely turned his back to me. To add insult to injury, the two rolls I had were both mediocre and the rice was white instead of brown as I asked for. The food was besides the point - I will never go there again to be spoken to the way I was, as a customer, person, and woman. Totally unacceptable. read more
