I walked in for dinner with 2 other people without a reservation and we were able to be seated outside immediately. The sun was already going down so we did not mind having to sit outside in the tent. The service was quick and everyone really enjoyed their dish. I had the Trenette Al Pomodoro pasta and it was pleasantly delicious. I typically prefer white sauce pastas but I was in the mood for red sauce and this one did not disappoint. Although it is just a spaghetti, I really enjoyed the dish. Stopped by for an early Friday dinner with two friends. We chose to sit inside. Ambiance was great, with a busy open kitchen, lots of other parties, and incredibly snappy service. We got the anelletti Siciliana, pizza napoletana, and couscous con pesce. The baked pasta was delicious and cheesy and beefy and carby, really solid hearty fare. The couscous came with a heroic quantity of seafood which my friend inhaled before I could try any, so I cannot vouch firsthand for it. Get an Italian Lager to go with your beer, don't be inauthentic and get wine unless you're doing a pasta, then by all means grab a Sangiovese or Amarone to compliment your meal. Everything was excellent, the pizza oven really adds gorgeous leoparding that's hard to do in non traditional ovens. The drizzled olive oils and little details like extra oregano, basil and salt are right at your fingertips. Very intimate space inside with small candlelit tables, brick wall interior, and wines sitting on old wooden shelves. I would recommend indoor versus outdoor seating. Make sure to ask for bread because they don't always bring it out right away. They pour you olive oil that is imported from Italy. You can taste the difference, with its nutty flavor. We ordered the arugula salad (enough for 2 to share) and the Busiate al pesto Trapanese. The pesto was nontraditional with basil and almonds and I loved every bite. There's just something special about eating freshly made pasta. The service felt a little rushed in the beginning but then I think our waiter recognized that we wanted to take our time and enjoy the meal. We ended up having nice conversation with him! In a group of 7 people, we all enjoyed what we ordered. - Fritto misto (calamari + fried zucchini): very solid. It wasn't _super_ crispy, but the zucchini was a really good (and unique imo) pairing with the calamari. - Ragu arancini: bolognese fried rice ball. I really wanted to love this place but I found our experience to be meh. While we enjoyed the food, the service was truly lackluster especially considering the price point. I would have loved a second glass of wine, or to order desert, but our waiter was nowhere to be found. We sat with empty pasta dishes for over twenty minutes until someone came to clear them away, and made some remark about us eating quickly, which actually was not the case. He didn't ask if we wanted anything else. I had to eventually flag down another waiter so we could pay and leave. Burrata appetizer was OK. I've certainly had creamier burrata. It was also served ice cold. Mozzarella and burrata should be served at room temperature to bring out the flavor. I would expect an Italian restaurant to know this. It was served with a very small piece of grilled bread and some dry arugula. Not worth the $19. I ordered the fettuccine with porcini mushroom. I enjoyed this dish. My partner ordered the gnocchi in bolognese and had no complaints. I think had the service been more attentive, we would have went home raving about the pastas. My partner actually wondered out loud if there was something wrong with us because it seemed we were the forgotten table. Very umami but you might want to ask the waiter to add less salt - Prosciutto, arugula parm pizza: 4/5 again, very delicious. I was pleasantly surprised that they had parm, oregano, hot pepper flakes and chili oil on the side - Busiate al pesto Trapanese: 3/5 this wasn't our favorite. As a pesto fiend, I thought it was a bit lacking. As a group of 15, I think we sampled nearly the entire menu! Highlights included the Fritto Misto, the creamy Burrata, and the Carpaccio di Polipo. I was in the mood for some authentic Italian food and I found it with Norma. The food was delicious, it's in a great location, and the staff was very nice. I ordered the bruschetta as an appetizer, a margarita pizza with prosciutto, the arancine al burro (a rice ball), the semifreddo alle mandorle, and the hazelnut gelato. Everything tasted great and fresh. The crust on the pizza was divine and it took me back my study abroad semester in Florence. My mom ordered a rice ball with prosciutto in it. She did not like the béchamel sauce underneath, but she loved it over all. Tip: The avenue that the restaurant is located by (9th Ave) is very busy, especially after 5pm during the weekday. We were seated outside and two bikers got into an accident right in front of us and there were a lot of cars honking. I'm from nyc so it didn't bother me but, if you prefer having a peaceful meal sit inside. Tip #2: When choosing a seat outside in the summer, chose a table that's not below an air conditioner. There are tenants that live in an apartment above the restaurant and their air conditioners dripped water on our table. That water could drip on your food/drink so be careful. Overall it's a great place that I'll definitely visit again in the future. The best Italian food I've had in a very long time. For the quality of the food and how delicious it is the price is really reasonable. The staff is all super friendly and conversational and you don't have to wait too long for the dishes to come out. Only mild complaint is the music they play does not go with the setting (bad electronic/pop music) and is loud, especially in the bathroom for some reason. The drink wasn't great (larger olives behind the bar please!), and the bread was burnt, even for the bruschetta. Norma is a welcome addition to Hells Kitchen ! Tender pizza crust cooked perfectly in a beautiful wood burning oven and a laid back atmosphere. We trii ed the traditional Margarita pizza which was delicious in its simplicity. And we also had the tonno pizza.
