    Ribeye*

Came here on New Year's Eve and it was pretty packed. We had a few issues, mainly with service--it was slow, and I didn't get a water refill the entire night. Our friend ordered a Diet Coke and, as an enthusiast, could immediately tell they were accidentally given Coke Zero. Overall, the food was alright. I ordered the chicken tenders and fries. Both were decent, though the fries weren't very crispy (just my personal preference). The tenders themselves were good, but they're battered more like fish, so they're heavily fried and can make you feel a bit sick if you eat too many. Others in our party ordered the ribeye, which looked really good, and I liked the butter sauce that came with it. The restaurant was lit with candles throughout, which really added to the ambiance and was a nice touch. Nice atmosphere and decent food, but slow service and small issues kept it from being great.

Yelp Fam, I told y'all I had a lot of reviews in the chamber--I just hadn't had time to get to them because this year has been busy, to say the least. This review finds us in Greenville, where we stopped by California Dreaming. One thing to know about me: I love California Dreaming. And yes, not every location is exactly the same--some menu items vary--and that's okay because the food is always tasty and consistently good. My family and I were visiting my aunt in Seneca, and we decided to take her out to lunch at one of our favorite spots, California Dreaming. For a Saturday, this location wasn't packed at all. We arrived around 3:00 p.m., and it was surprisingly quiet--which I didn't mind one bit because the service was fast... and wow, was it fast. I'm sure they get much busier around dinner time, so I'm glad we got there early. We all ordered different items. Of course, everyone had salads and their delicious, signature rolls. I opted for the shrimp platter (which I didn't take a photo of... lol). My sister ordered the shrimp tacos, and my aunt did as well--and they both really enjoyed their meals. My mom ordered some kind of pasta with cheese (I can't remember exactly what it was), but she enjoyed it, and my uncle went with a burger. Everyone enjoyed their food, and while we didn't have room for dessert, we definitely left with leftovers because the portions were very filling. Below are photos of everyone's meals--except mine... lol. Enjoy!

We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon after the lunch rush. The place was busy and the servers were hustling. The menu has a "American" food fare vibe. It took me a moment to decide and I went with the chicken finger platter. I wasn't drawn to anything else and felt it was a comfort food good choice. Well, I wasn't drawn less than impressed. My fries were both over cooked and cold and the chicken while coated with a light crisp batter (which I love) was not seasoned and missed the mark. It's turrets and castle like appearance drew us in by its whimsical nature but it's a one and done for me.

Really good food the soup that I had that I forgot to take a picture of it's definitely good. It was a lobster bisque soup. I believe the food was definitely good. I had crabcakes. My one of my coworkers had the pork chop shank or whatever and then they are California dreaming salad was awesome. Blue cheese was definitely really good. Would go back if I'm ever in Greenville South Carolina again.

The place had indoor and outdoor seating very nice looking place. Service was good once we got seated. Went before dinner (3) and it was pretty empty, it took a while as wait staff kept walking in front of us with no recognition. Food was excellent. Had a poke bowl for the first time and it was delicious and Fresh. It was colorful and it came with ahi tuna. The chicken Alfredo was creamy and the chicken was cooked well. We had the cheesecake and it was 6 inches high and shareable! It was so creamy and the crust tasted like a biscoff cookie . My stars are a reflection of the food not the service!! Bon appetito.

My wife and her mother and aunt all went to California Dreaming for dinner. Waited for a booth. The server was great. The manager was great also with getting us seated. The food was excellent. Everything was great. I had Carolina Trout. Excellent. The ambience was good. It was overall a great place to dine. We will go back very soon. Great experience.

I've been eating at California Dreaming for over 15 years now and they don't disappoint. On a whim we decided to have lunch here after church. I made reservations and met up with our son and his GF. We ordered BBQ Nachos while we waited for them which were good but we had to request a little more queso to put on them. I ordered soup and salad, hubby ordered a steak and baked potato, son ordered miso salmon with loaded mashed potatoes and Bri ordered the chicken pasta without the chicken, add scallions and tomatoes (she's a vegetarian) Everything was tasty and our server Michael did an excellent job! Since Cali Dreamin is one of my usual spots...I will definitely be back!!

Just had kayla the bartender wait on me. She was very accommodating to my every request and went to the kitchen to personally make sure everything was accurate. Ken, the operating partner/GM, personally came to check on me to make sure everything was accurate and tasty. Bravo to he and his well train team for making sure I was happy... It worked! What a leader Ken has shown me he is! By the way did I mention how clean the restaurant was? I can tell you from experience that it was!!!

We stood by the door and they said there was nowhere for us to wait other than that spot. They offered us drinks, which was good... but it started in an awkward way. I felt a bit uncomfortable standing next to people on the couches, while they ate. I felt we were encroaching on them. We were seated in the rear section of the restaurant. Note: The air is quite chilly in this area. (You may want to bring light jacket) Adam was our waiter. His knowledge of the wine was a huge help for my husband's paring with his meal. He explained the food perfectly and was very patient with all of our questions. The food! OHMYGOODNESS! The duck was cooked perfectly. It had a sauce that was out of this world. One of the people at our table absolutely refused to let his wife taste his chicken because he wanted to enjoy every last bite! I shared bronzino fish w the birthday girl.(not sure how to spell it) Oh My Goodness!!! Friggin amazing! The crusting was absolute perfection. The clam/sauce complimented the fish perfectly. Appetizers were on point! Cream brûlée was a bit too creamy for me, I like it more like flan consistency, but it was very good. Once I save up again, I will certainly go back.

We enjoyed the beef tartar as a starter. the halibut and the ribs were fantastic and there was also a little side dish that was made on the fly, made by the kitchen that was beautiful with mushrooms, artichokes, and a lot of other things that I cannot remember. It was also delicious. The wine selection is fantastic here. The sommelier (Adam) was very friendly and knowledgeable. When booking a table, definitely make sure you do it correctly as I was not able to get through that experience correctly but even though we didn't have a reservation, there was a very nice spot in the bar area that we enjoyed. It was still very romantic and comfortable. We look forward to seeing "scoundrel" again soon. Thank you all for an amazing evening.

It was a beautiful day, so we chose to sit outside. It is a gorgeous view and the umbrellas provide plenty of shade. Not wanting leftovers, we chose to share the she crab soup and ribeye steak sandwich. Our waitress, Keera, was very bubbly and friendly. She suggested many different add ons and I chose the creamed corn. My only suggestion would be offering a smaller portion of this dish at lunch. It was delicious and I am glad we tried it. The ribeye sandwich and truffle fries were both exceptional. Having had she crab soups at different NC and SC restaurants, I thought theirs was just ok. Not bad, but nothing to make me want to come back just to order that specific item. Mike, the manager, was very visible throughout our whole lunch and stopped by our table to introduce himself. They own a grocery store up north, have very high expectations when it comes to food, and we've always felt confident recommending Hall's. Unfortunately, this visit was incredibly disappointing. While our last couple of experiences had some service issues, the food and drinks had remained consistently good. This time, however, both the service and the food missed the mark. We waited nearly two hours for our meals to arrive. Every steak at our table was ordered either rare or medium rare, yet every single one came out well done. Not only were they overcooked, but they were also tough and cold! Under normal circumstances, we would have sent them back, but after waiting two hours and dining with children, we didn't feel like we had much of a choice but to eat them. A manager stopped by our table, but instead of asking how everything was or acknowledging the obvious issues, he simply asked if he could bring us anything else. There was no apology, no attempt to make things right, and no offer to comp any part of the meal despite the excessive wait and improperly cooked food. When we later asked for the manager to come back because we wanted him to know how disappointed we were, the response was to send us home with dessert. We all politely declined because we didn't want dessert--it wasn't the issue, and it would have gone to waste. For a restaurant with Hall's reputation and prices, we expected much better. It was embarrassing to have recommended it so highly to family, only to have this be their experience. We sincerely hope this was an isolated incident, but after multiple disappointing visits, we will take our $900.00+ dining elsewhere!!!!

Hubs had the meatballs (which the server said they only had two left...a friend nabbed the others) and other friends had the moules (mussels) frites and the braised short rib IIRC. The *.frites were the biggest hits. My filet was perfect, Sharon was raving about her mussels being the best she's had in ages. I had a bite of the meatballs, they were ok but people agreed there are better things on their menu. I love that the frites come with a choice of 3 out of about 10 different custom mayos (aiolis for the fancy-schmancy). I tried the curry, sriracha, and a fruity one I can't remember exactly what it was. I liked the fruity one the best and to my surprise, the curry the least (I usually love curry, but the balance was off). The sriracha mayo was too subtle for me, I slather sriracha mayo on my burgers regularly. I have no class. The frites were fresh cut and I enjoyed them but there were far more than I could eat on my plate, and sadly frites don't keep. They have my favorite super sweet Lindemann's framboise lambic on tap; I've only ever had it in bottles before, so that was a treat. My husband thinks I'm crazy to drink it because it is SO SWEET but I love it. So does Sharon, and clearly we're not alone or they wouldn't waste a tap on it :). It's beer for people who hate beer. (I resemble that remark. Maybe hate is a strong word. But in my 30s I realized I'd rather drink a soda than a beer, except for this one.) Desserts sounded good but we were too stuffed to order any. Next time I come, I may try the mussels, or I might just order that steak again.

It's in a basement that feels like a pleasant dungeon or a 1500's rogue tavern, you know, the kind in the movies where plots to overturn evil rulers are hatched. It is a unique vibe and after your meal, when emerging back onto the brightly lit street, it's akin to stepping out of a secret place and back into the light of day. The beer selection is impressive. This food is Belgian inspired. Hence the name being derived from a mix of Trappist Monks, trap doors, and a hidden underground enclave. Many of the beers have higher alcohol content, listed on the menu, be advised. The specialty is Moules Frites, mussels prepared in various broths and fries double fried in duck fat served with a flight of your choice of flavored mayonnaise such as wasabi, curry, truffle, sriracha, etc. Very good. Reservations are highly recommended. It was a busy Thursday at 6:30pm and the place was literally packed, even the bar. The two of us were seated in a large, dark, alcove booth fitting for six or perhaps even eight. We had a reservation, so the hostess said, "we may as well fill it" since it was that crowded. Being such, it was five minutes before we were noticed and placed our drink orders, another five before our water arrived and we ordered and about 30 minutes later to get our food. In between we were left to ourselves. The service was not negligent, but it was minimal and not really friendly either. It was a busy night, so we will have grace. But the mussels were delicious. We both had the Provincale, a rich, savory, Mediterranean sauce of tomatoes, garlic and white wine. Bourdain says "never order the mussels", in his Kitchen Confidential book, but here you are safe because they are very popular and the main feature. I've probably said this before and it is worth repeating, they need to up their crusty bread game. The broth is so good and the accompanying bread just doesn't lend itself to bringing the dish to another level, but it could were it better bread. This is a solid and must do restaurant experience when visiting Greenville. It arguably should be the "one" restaurant you must visit in town because of its unique ambiance and unique food & beverage.
