I was charged twice for my order and notified the restaurant. It has been over two weeks and it still has not been resolved!

Disappointed. Ordered a fried rice dish, a fried noodle dish, and a plate of 8 boiled dumplings. All are tasty, but only the dumplings have the authentic taste. It is understaffed. It matches all nearby restaurants with alcohol service. There is potential and hopefully this place will be just as crowded as its neighboring restaurants. read more

All I have to say is "wow". We had the pork soup dumplings, pork wontons with chili and the fried rice. Food was excellent and the service was great. Definitely coming back soon. The only thing that they need to change is that the price of two beers was $25. Should not be that expensive. We felt a bit gouged on that part of the visit. read more

I just ordered a vegetarian mapo tofu and it came with meat. Hard to recommend to vegetarians if this is common occurrence.

I would rate this place a solid 6/10. We weren't blown away but we also weren't terribly disappointed. Food was ok. The kung pao chicken saved our meal, it was flavorful and delicious. The noodles we ordered said "dry" but were soupy and they also tasted like a straight jar of skippy peanut butter. The chicken fried rice was ok too. The beef roll was tasty but beware if you don't like cilantro it's filled with it. Service was good, they are a new restaurant still figuring out the flow, which is understandable. Our server was nice and attentive. Right next to Goyen sushi where La Creperie cafe used to be I believe. It was clean with a quiet atmosphere. It's one of those up and coming dumpling houses similar to that of a Dan Modern Chinese or Din tai fung. read more

Stopped in for dinner Saturday night and had a great meal. All dishes are served family style and we had the orange chicken and special fried rice which was excellent. We also had pork dumplings which were fresh and really flavorful and the scallion pancakes which were delicious. Service was fast and friendly. Will definitely return! read more

Nice service. Certain food items were excellent, such as scallion pancake and the garlic string beans. However the soup dumplings didn't have soup and were dried. The pork and shrimp dumplings were good but didn't have the crisp you would find for a really excellent potsticker. The cold cucumber appetizer was bland and lack any real flavor. We ordered 5 dishes in total. The only dish they correctly brought to our table was the fried rice. We never got the noodle dish we ordered and the rest of the items orders were brought to the wrong table. FYI if you have sea food allergies check the dumplings before eating them, we ordered pork dumplings and they brought crab instead. Overall the service was horrible, food was bad.... Panda Express is honestly better. But if you're looking for a better Chinese experience go to Lunasia in Artesia/Cerritos instead. read more

Northern Café is hands down the best Chinese food in Long Beach! The restaurant is so beautiful and very clean. The staff is extremely friendly and kind (hard to find that combination these days). The food is exceptional and doesn't taste overly fried or greasy. It's really perfection. My favorite is Kung, pow chicken, orange chicken, hot and sour soup, shrimp pops, I mean really it's all delicious, but those are my top favorites. I highly recommend. read more

Food was great but the wait for a table was long even though there were several empty tables. It was a Wednesday night so not too busy but staff was not organized. Staff wasn't friendly, didn't check on us and we had to ask for every little thing like dipping sauce, water, etc. We said thank you more often than the staff. They looked stressed. My husband and I were so excited to have a Chinese restaurant on Second Street and ate there last night! It was AMAZING! We had House Special Beef Noodle Soup, Kung Pao Chicken and Pork and Cabbage Dumplings (opted for fried instead of steamed...my husbands preference!) and they are ALL our favorites! The service was top-notch, attentive and super friendly. Our server was Tonya, her first day there but you would never have guessed that! She was amazing! The GM's name is Paulina and going along with the vibe this restaurant has.....so friendly, easy, relaxed and just a delight! Their menu is not overwhelming but with plenty of options. Ordered online through yelp for delivery. They didn't have one of my items apparently but the restaurant didn't contact me yelp didn't notice me and the third part delivery service didn't notify me. My food arrived the driver didn't care that an item was missing or that the receipt and my order I was showing him were not the same. I paid $35 and the total on the receipt was only $18 and some. My $10 (overpriced) cucumber salad was not there and I still haven't gotten the money back. I contacted yelp and they didn't help saying to wait and a refund was issued horrible all around experience. Between the three different parties involved and making the delivery possible not one of them thought to inform the customer that an item was not available. I didn't receive a call text or email. And when I contacted yelp. I asked for a new receipt to be sent so I could understand the new charges that supposedly would be applied when the refundcame but never received that and the yelp worker hung up on me read more

I got the szechuan fish and vegetable fried noodles for takeout last night and it was AMAZING. The only downside was that the rice that comes with it is an insulting portion. If they actually filled the container it came in then maybe it would have been reasonable but it was like a quarter of the way filled. Like about the size of an icecream scoop. I would need to order 4 extra rices at this size to get enough to soak up the delish sauce. I slurped it up and licked my plate instead! But man was i sweating and wished i had more rice. Too hungry to cook or order more! The fish was tender and the pieces of egg were little bites of heaven too. And then the noodles were cooked perfectly. Had a nice "chew" to them and lots of depth to the flavors so that the veggies each had their own flavor within the noodles. Highly recommend but have some rice at home pre-made! Found nothing good here. Nothing objectionable. Just not good. Dan Dan noodles tasted like a jar of peanut butter. Beef noodle soup and eggplant dish were edible. Not much flavor. None of us finished our entree. One of our appetizers never came, nor did the sambal we requested. We sent the "soup dumplings" back and asked for a replacement that actually had soup in them. After inquiring in the kitchen the waitress returned and said their dumplings didn't have soup like regular soup dumplings so she'd just take them off the check rather than make new ones. Ok fair enough, probably shouldn't call them soup dumplings. When the check came she just took $5 off the $15 dumplings cuz we had eaten some. Lol. Our group had each tried them, and when they weren't actually soup dumplings as advertised we could have either spit them out or swallowed. We swallowed. Anywho. Keep the ten bucks. Final insult was the management staff thought it was ok to just park their cars behind the regular parking spaces, blocking everybody in. So we had to call the restaurant and wait for them to come move their two cars, which they did with a pretty insincere apology. They clearly didn't think there was anything unacceptable about inconveniencing a customer this way. Wasn't the first time either, as the host from Nick's (next door) was in the parking lot helping one of his customers who was blocked in as well. When we chatted with him about it he just rolled his eyes and commented that "they do this all the time". Seems pretty indicative of their general attitude about customer service. The more I write here the more I think two stars is generous. read more
