I always go to Northstar before a show at Funnybone. It's conveniently located by the parking lot. There's plenty of seating, as well as a cool bar area. You order as soon as you walk in, seat yourself, and your food is brought to you. Elevated fast casual. I've tried several things on their menu, and the burgers are the best. Very juicy. Another amazing Cincinnati restaurant! It's a big place and it was busy. In spite of that, service was very quick. You start by grabbing a menu on the way in. Then you order at the counter and next find a table. They deliver the food to your table. I thought I would work on a vegan lunch and they have numerous options. I enjoy restaurants with the opportunity to order at the counter and then pick seating and this restaurant is designed that way. It was my first time visiting and the server provided amazing service, she provided recommendations on popular items and made any dietary accommodations. When seated you can enjoy all the natural light as the restaurant has wrap around windows and plenty of opportunity for large table seatings if you come with a large party. I enjoyed the burrito that you can get with our without meat. It was crisped on the outside and all the cheese was melted on the inside which was a plus. I also enjoyed their ricotta pancake, it was fluffy some areas were softer than the others but overall cooked throughout and moist in flavor could be enjoyed without syrup. When you first come in the door you are impressed when the modern decor. The menus are located in a box on the wall when you walk in. You will then you place your order with the cashier. You will then get your own drinks and find your seat. The food is very tasty. I had the oats which had almond butter and cocoa nibs and were amazing. My husband had the ricotta pancakes and bacon which were also very good. The coffee is super strong, so be aware of that. We received each item one at a time so by the time we received our last item (15 minutes) the food we received first was getting cold. We were impressed (since each item was served by a new person) that they were aware that our food was not coming out in a timely manner so they made it right by giving us two free meals upon our next visit. We will definitely come back due to the good food and ambience. Looking forward to trying a specialty coffee and a scone. read more

I stopped in Northstar Cafe for breakfast today, and it was my first time visiting Northstar. It was a very posh restaurant, but easy to get a table for bunch on Sunday without a wait. I ordered the Country Breakfast in the picture which I felt was a little misleading and very overpriced for what it is. When you read the title country breakfast with biscuits, bacon, sausage, gravy, and eggs you envision a big breakfast platter which this was not and was disappointing to see when it was served. Although the food itself was very good, the entire time I felt disappointed because it is not what was expected. Additionally when it says biscuits and gravy , I would expect more than a single biscuit that was split in half. The food was great. The burrito was my favorite, it was flavorful with a slight kick, it came with a green sauce that took it next level for me. We also tried the cloud nine pancakes and country breakfast with gravy. I've never been a big pancake person but my husband and daughter liked them. I got orange juice and my daughter got apple juice - both freshly made and were delicious. You order when you walk in and sit down with a pager/beeper, they brought us our food and drinks so not sure why we needed the pager (maybe when it's busy you have to get your own food?). It was 9:30 am when we got there so it wasn't crowded or anything since they open at 9:00 am. Overall we enjoyed the place it's nice and they play some nice music while you're eating. My girlfriend and I visited this location last night (2/4) for dinner around 7 pm. She and a friend visited the Kenwood location for lunch, earlier the same day. The cashier was friendly and professional, however, I was stunned to find that I was prompted to enter a TIP when I ordered my dinner, before I sat myself. The 2 open booths that we selected were in need of being cleaned. We sat down at one and had to call over a waiter to clean where we sat. When the food arrived, it was pleasant and delicious. I had a Cheeseburger and fries, Ginger Ale and a cookie and my girlfriend had a Salad, Ginger Ale and a cookie. With my pre-tip the bill was $70+. I'm not a cheap guy, but I prefer a good value for my money. I will recommend the restaurant, but with a caveat about the pricing. This was my first visit, hopefully, on my next I won't have to request a clean table to dine on. read more

Took my mom and stepdad for brunch before they left to head back home. My stepdad ordered the everyday egg sandwich, and he really liked it. My mom ordered the sunrise burrito, and it was huge. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and it was really amazing. It was very obvious that everything is made fresh in house. The restaurant itself is set up a little differently. You order and pay in the front almost like at a cafeteria, then your food is brought to you when it's ready. It ensures that your food is hot and ready when you get it, but makes for a different dining experience. Everyone that worked there was polite and the service was fine, just not traditional. My Mr. and I went here for a Yelp event and was very pleased with Northstar that we had to come back again. It's that good! I would describe this place as an upscale healthy bistro. You walk up to the register, order, they give you a pager, you pick where you want to sit, and they bring you your meals. They are super fast too! The inside is very classy, contemporary, open/spacious and love the lighting. It gives it a warm welcoming feel. The menu is very simple yet you will find it hard to choose a meal because everything looks good. Salads, burgers, sandwiches, pizza, a couple Asian inspired meals, desserts, cocktails, some craft beers on tap, wine, and healthy juices/refreshments, We ordered: Chopped salad Pad Thai w/ roasted chicken Carrot cake Sonder Kato coffee blonde ale (Sonder Brewing) Benton Lane Pinot noir This is my second time having the chopped Salad. It's the best I've ever had. The dressing is balanced well with the greens. The apple wood bacon and Turkey goes so well with the blue cheese. I had a couple of bites of my Mr's pad Thai and love the flavor! The veggies held it's crunch. It definitely hit the spot. Carrot Cake, once again.. the best I've ever had. When I returned it I was told they never ask customers how they want it cooked - the menu doesn't tell you they'll undercook it and apparently they don't know any better. And don't care. Then waited 20 minutes for a replaced burger. Food-good. Staff-politely ignorant & uncaring. Lastly, do not tip until AFTER service has been provided, not at the cash register before they deliver any service! read more

We arrived for lunch at Northstar Cafe and was greeted by a super friendly cashier. She was so helpful and suggested a few items to us. Our drinks, cookies, and food was served very quickly. Everything tasted very good and was very flavorful. I had: Pimento Cheeseburger & Fries, Ginger Ale, and a Peanut butter Cookie, my son had: a plain Cheeseburger & Fries, Orange Cream Crush, and a Chocolate Chop Cookie. The house made drinks were really good and so refreshing. Only wish they had a little less ice in them. The burgers were cooked to perfection and had the crispy edges on them. Yummo!!! The French Fries dipped in the Rosemary Aioli was so good. Northstar Cafe is a high end Cafe with a nice simple menu. The place is clean and inviting. The prices are a little high. The food is pretty good but very aggressively priced. $17 for a basic personal margherita pizza is pushing it. I appreciate the organic tomatoes used in the sauce and quality of the pizza. I always question places that have an "order yourself at the counter" style yet always ask for tips on the card reader. Speaking of cards, they went cashless which I also don't appreciate. Cash is very important to maintaining personal privacy and freedom. Service was great , I appreciate the manager and the bartender's kindness. Ambiance is pretty simple , they are in the center of Liberty outdoor mall and you can take drinks to go. They would have 4 starts but...... my hash had a pice of long blonde hair in it. This is why more kitchen staff should be wearing hair nets. They have an exposed kitchen, so it could have happen anywhere before it landed at my seat. The manager was apologetic and did comp our meals. But still nasty, and no I didn't re order my food. Northstar has long been one of my favorite restaurants. Whether you are a meat eater or vegan, Northstar has an option for everyone. The vanilla coffee crush is a delicious coffee mocktail reminiscent of fizzy vanilla cold brew, and the Thai burrito is large enough for two meals! The crunchy peanut slaw (which comes in the burrito, but you can also get on the side) is my favorite. The cookies are perfectly underbaked and HUGE - the size of your head. They also have delicious brunch options - I look forward to trying the lemon ricotta pancakes one day. I'll be back! read more

We had the little gem Caesar, herb and cheddar biscuits and fresh made guacamole. The guacamole was delicious but chunkier than I like but yes I'd eat it again like right away. I have been moved to leave this review while eating dinner because of how consistently pleased I have been with this establishments quality of food, service, and ambience. I have been visiting Northstar for dinner over the past 10 weeks regularly due to work travel in the area. I love trying new things, but the Liberty salad has me in a chokehold, and I will usually not stray away from ordering it for dinner. First, the food is ALWAYS super fresh. I come here specifically because being on the road often leaves me craving clean, nutritious food, and this place delivers on that. The Liberty salad is arguably one of my top 3 salads of all time- not to mention it comes with a big hunk of their homemade focaccia bread. Lastly, the service/ambience are unmatched. Every employee is kind and helpful. I have never been greeted with anything less than a smile. Also, I believe it was a manager or the cook who just came and checked on me while eating my dinner- mind you this place is not full service, so that is unusual and a nice gesture to show they care about their customer's experience. They have a ton of seating for different functions. The bar is a great place to chill with friends and unwind, the back corner with cushioned benches is a great spot to sit while working on your computer (only downside is no wifi). The vibe is a great combination between upscale/social/casual. It is open, airy, and inviting inside. I've also ordered their chicken Buddha bowl before, and their seasonal soup options are to die for - roasted cauliflower, or loaded chili. You can't go wrong ordering anything here. It is a bit pricey, but in my opinion well worth it. I certainly will come back for brunch sometime. read more

I love a restaurant that's sit-down but you order and pay upfront - while there's a separate bar, you can order 'bar beverages' at the main counter and they're delivered to your table. Very kind and informative staff. Design of the space is unique, modern, and we didn't feel cramped on a Saturday night. I ordered the Buddha bowl, which was overflowing with flavor and nutrient rich vegetables. Got a kale salad too without the cheese, with an order of French fries to boot! While restaurants can always have more vegan options, I absolutely loved the Buddha bowl I had. So many colors and textures. Can't wait to go back! It's so great and rare that the vegan option isn't just an salty impossible burger or just iceberg lettuce and carrot. Loved it. Family enjoyed their pad Thai and a hamburger. Word to the wise, there is a little bit of spice to the pad Thai, and I'd say even less in the Buddha Bowl from the red pepper flake in the sauce.
