After a friendly voice mail message informed us that our lamps were ready as scheduled, we went to pick them up and bring them home. Yep, these were the right lamps! They look great in our living room and fit the intended space perfectly. BUT! We brought them home and tried them with the light bulbs we purchased here, the ones a sales associate told us worked in this lamp. They do work...as long as you don't want to put the shade on the lamp. Once we put the harp (the part that holds the lamp shade) in place, it became too narrow for the bulb to screw in completely. Now we have to go find some new light bulbs since we do actually want to use the shade. I mean, we bought a lamp with a shade on purpose. It wasn't a "Let's get the shade just to keep one around!" kind of thing. ::face palm:: I'll say again what I said before: they're disorganized and don't really have it all together here, but the selection is fantastic. Come armed with patience and prepared to double-check everything.

Luckily for me, I was waited on by Bonnie Krause, who went out of her way to assist me on finding the right fixture.

I stopped in shortly after opening and purchased two 9/16" rubber washers for approximately $1. Since I didn't have cash, I used my debit card. The cashier informed me there was a $3 minimum purchase requirement. When I said I did not need anything else, a man I assume was the owner told the cashier to simply add $2 as "labor" to reach the minimum. I found it strange that I was charged an additional $2 for no product or service. Although it was only $2, it was still money taken from my pocket for nothing. After leaving, I recalled that businesses are generally prohibited from imposing minimum purchase requirements on debit card transactions. I called the store to discuss the issue, but the person who answered, whom I believe was the same individual, abruptly hung up. I then returned to the store, where he was waiting near the entrance. When I showed him information regarding the law as it relates to debit card minimums, specifically 15 U.S.C. § 1693o-2 (Durbin Amendment to the Dodd-Frank Act) he responded, "I was the one who hung up on you. I don't care. Have a nice day. Go tell your President." Regardless of the amount involved, what disappointed me most was the attitude and lack of professionalism displayed by the owner. I have always tried to support local businesses, but after this experience, I will not be returning. The $2 isn't the issue. The issue is an owner who apparently believes the rules don't apply to him and treats customers with contempt when they're brought to his attention. I hope the appropriate agencies and card networks share his confidence.

Oftentimes I leave frustrated because at the chain stores I'm passed off or rushed. I leave feeling like I'm a burden because they're too busy having to take care of something else. The staff at Lemoi is the opposite of that. They're super friendly and I'm always greeted by someone at the front entrance. They're consistent with having ample staff ready to help if you need something or have questions. Last month I found an LED snowman face on their webpage and called their site to see if I could pick it up in store. Within a week, they had my snowman and I left with my purchase pleased with the service and quality of my product. They seem to have a lot of items in stock too. Months ago, I went on a separate trip with my dad looking for a missing part to repair his sump pump. He had visited Lowes, Menard's and Home Depot with no luck but happened to find what he needed here at an affordable price. Lemoi Ace Hardware has been in the area since 1895. The ability to stay in business for that long says a lot about the quality and service they put out. My recent experiences are testament to that and I hope they stay in business for generations to come.

I once also got a quote from them for a big kitchen cabinet replacement project.  The staffer was helpful, but in the end, they weren't competitive with just going directly to a cabinet supplier for any particular cabinet quality.  Their approach was one of being a middleman, and they had no real control of the project timing as it was up to the cabinet supplier anyway.  But Menards was helpful for the project research anyway, and they could possibly be right for you depending on your project execution style. Menards also has frequent 11% off promos.  Sometimes it involves whatever you can fill in a paper shopping bag, but more often it is in the form of an old-fashioned mail-in rebate which is annoying and antiquated these days.  Overall though, it's a big plus to have this Menards around us.
