Nostrano used to be an amazing northern italian restaurant before covid. My husband and I finally went to dinner there tonight at 6:15, we were really looking forward to it. We ordered a caprese appetizer, which was disappointing because it was cold- tomatoes and mozzarella should always be room temp for best flavor. We waited almost 2 hours for our dinner-when we complained, the waiter said they had a big party (even though it wasn't very crowded.) I ordered the chicken scarpariello, which I have had a few times before. It was horrible-they must have a new chef or something. The sauce was tomato based! Usually its a flavorful brown- wine -based sauce. The chicken used to be on the bone, very tender-this time it was 2 thincutlets that were very tough. My husband ordered the chicken parmesan-how can you mess that up? It was soggy, not crispy at all. Not going back ever again. read more

First visit. Saturday evening dinner 8:30 with friends. Nostrano was recommended to me by a chef who owned another restaurant. Dining room was small but comfortable. Staff attentive.. But here's why this place gets 5 stars.. THE FOOD IS INCREDIBLE.. Started with fresh tomato and Buratta salad... Main courses were GIGANTIC and UNBELIEVABLE.. I had Pork Scarpariello and my wife Bronzino... Both dishes were prepared well, came out steaming from the kitchen.. and were really 2 meals in one (We took home 1/2 and ate for lunch the next day). All in all I rate this one of the best restaurants in Fairfield County.. We eat in Westport and Fairfield a lot and those restaurants can't compare with Nostranos... Great Italian restaurant. We started with their homemade focaccia bread it was so good we had a second helping. My wife had the Chicken Romano and I had Chicken Parm. Both meals were excellent with large portions. Their homemade noodles were light, and both pasta was cooked to perfection.Love their red sauce and the sausage was delicious.The service here was excellent. If I could, I would give this place six stars or even seven. We stopped in yesterday evening and were blown away by the food, portions and service. We didn't have a reservation on a Friday evening, but due to a last minute cancelation, we were able to get a table. Hint, always call in advance for a reservation. While we had a tough time deciding, we started with the arancini, which was the first time I've ever had it, but it was out of this world. I could tell from that app and the tasty dipping sauce that came with it, that we were in for a good meal. For my entree, I selected the penne alla vodka and it was perfect. It wasn't too creamy and had a healthy amount of sauce, which I enjoy. I love pasta alla vodka and order it often, and I have to say this is one of the best I've had. Despite being totally full, we indulged in a fantastic dessert of fried dough and a cannoli dipping sauce with chocolate chips. If you come here, you have to try this dessert, you won't be disappointed, I promise. Shout out to our server, Katie, who was outstanding. Since this place is BYOB, we were able to enjoy a nice bottle of wine from home. Great salads and some magnificent specials-if you're jonesing for some pasta try their bolognese or vodka sauce. I have been coming here weekly and seriously excellent! Came for Mother's Day and unlike most places who seem to do a prix fixe or can't handle the crowd, this place took control and manages their crowd and food exceptionally...only downfall is the place is closed on Mondays! We've had a "date night" with friends every weekend before covid. After several months of self quarantining, we decided to do take out of one of our faves for safety purposes...We were delighted to see that Nostrano offered a family sized menu at very affordable prices. We also ordered the shrimp cocktail (2 orderrs), which is actually 4 gigantic shrimp with cocktail sauce, and the chicken parm/pasta family meal. It was more than enough to feed four of us...with lots of left over..while not the same experience as "being there", it was a great replacement. The food was fantastic! read more

I called Nostrano on 9/3 for 6:30pm reservations for 9/7 for 2. Arrive on time and we get seated by some youngster after confirming my reservation and sat us in the bar area. I questioned why we were being seated there, and she asked 'did you specify the dining area.' Well we got a table about 2x3 foot in size, seated about a foot and a half away from the next table. Bought the bread and olive oil and had difficulty getting it all on the table because of the table size. Ordered the calamari with marinara sauce as the appetizer, was excellent. Then we ordered the main entrees, wife ordered veal Francese and I ordered the evening special, chicken breasts with scallops. Now, one of two things, either I had a very dull knife or the chicken breasts (which looked like Perdue perfect portions) were tough, I don't know. I ate one and got a 'doggie bag' for our shepherd. Ordered desert, I had the pistachio cheese cake, where the whipped cream on the plate was bigger than the cheese cake. Keep in mind my review when making reservations here. read more

All of the chicken dishes are excellent- try the chicken Milanese! The pistachio encrusted salmon is perfectly prepared and excellent. Even impressed with the basic spaghetti and meatballs. The desserts are huge- not like the embarrassing tiny offerings by Sal e Pepe and Osteria The only downside is the atmosphere. We have a favorite italian restaurant up in the north end Boston that we don't get enough of. Real fresh, high quality, great prices that never disappoint. We found similar here at Nostrano. A friend highly recommended this place. Huge plus is BYOB! My husband always orders veal when we are out and lately at places he's a bit disappointed when the plate comes and there are only two small pieces. When his plate came this time, he looked extremely happy and ate every bite. He couldnt even order a dessert he was so full! I had the Fusilli and cannot wait to get it again. The amount of sausage and broccoli rabe were in perfect proportion to the pasta. And let me tell you this will probably be the freshest tastiest sausage you've ever had. Was enough for next days' lunch. Need to book a reservation for weekend night though they had 4:30 or 9:00 when i called same day. Small inside, not a huge menu (but will probably make whatever if asked) but quality and service are key. Big tip left for our waitress. Extremely satisfied! They offer take-out dinners (for 6) for $34 I will definately try soon! read more

Been going here for year and has alway been pretty consistent, however the last couple times we've gone not so good. Went this past weekend and the service was lacking and the food was sub-par. The Bread ( my sons favorite part) was cold and dry, asked for another basket and that one was the same and had a hair in the bread. Third basket no better. Good bread in a Italian restaurant is key! We did not stay for dessert. Was a disappointment-Not going back anytime soon. read more

Went there for the first time. After seeing so many positive reviews we were looking forward to it. Unfortunately our experience was less than ideal. We sat outside. The location was nice enough but the food was pretty bland, so much so that one of us barely ate their meal. The penne alla vodka was particularly bland. Server never came by during the meal to check in. After we were done we waited quite a while for someone to stop by. Finally I went inside to ask for the check. Multiple workers were huddled and talking. When the staff member saw our food as we were leaving they asked how it was. We were honest and told them that one of us didn't like their meal and it was clear as they barely touched it. There were never any offer of taking it off the check or another dish, which at that point would have been too late anyway as we never saw anyone during the meal. Nostrano is one of my family's favorite eateries. Reservations are a must, but sometimes you have to wait because people just don't want to leave such a cozy, delicious and BYOB atmosphere, and who can blame them!? The menu is superb as is the appetizers to entrees. The staff is very friendly, and provides excellent service. The only reason I held back 5 stars is the eatery is a little small, with little to no waiting area, but this all goes away when you sit down and enjoy. Second time, we called at 5 to place a take out order for two dinners and they said take out would be ready at 7:30 "due to catering orders". I would give this place 3.5 stars. We were really excited bc of all of the great reviews, but you also have to realize these reviews are for a restaurant in Newtown CT which let's be honest isn't the hub of gastronomical greatness. That being said, It's good. I had the ciopinno which was aesthetically pleasing, but lacked luster in terms of spiciness, salt, and depth. It had too many small crustaceans and cioppino is typically a combination of Dungeness crab, clams, shrimp, scallops, squid, mussels and fish. This had no chunks of fish or crab. Fiancée had the Chicken Scarpiello which he described as not being as good as he has recently had (he was referring to The Chelsea's in Fairfield). He said the portion was great, and it was good, just not excellent. Son had salmon which was good, but the portion is small and the vegetable faro was bland. The salmon should come with mashed potatoes to make it more filling. Last but not least is the linguine and clams which was really good. Great portion and plenty of clams. They even brought more clams on the side. Cocktails were good. We recommend the Old fashioned. Dining room lights should be set much dimmer in the evening, to set the mood. They were way too bright. If you have Celiac disease, they do have gluten free pasta and really seemed to be very aware of gluten allergies. The servers were all very pleasant, attentive and sweet. We live close, so we may give it another shot.. or not. We shall see read more

This place is absolutely delicious! This is my second time here and I was not disappointed! You walk in and staff welcomes you right as you walk into the doors and we were seated immediately! We had dinner pretty early around 5:30 and almost the whole restaurant was filled by 6:00! However, even though the restaurant was full the service was still fantastic! Very attentive and super friendly! The food itself is to die for! My family and I all ordered something different on the menu ranging from veal Marsala to pasta with calamari! Each plate of food was phenomenal! No one was disappointed and no complaints what so ever! Great flavor and high quality ingredients! There is always room for dessert and we ordered fried dough with cannoli cream! If you come to this restaurant you need to try this dessert!! The dough comes to your table piping hot and the canola cream is so velvety smooth. I high recommend coming to this restaurant! I will 100% be returning for another fabulous meal! read more

Nostrano's is a really great little Italian restaurant conveniently located on Main St. In Monroe, CT. All of their food is delicious but the stuffed pork chop special was amazing and the portions are very generous. I like the idea of BYOB too--keeps your bill reasonable. Add to that a staff that is very friendly and accommodating and it's a wonderful eating experience. One caution however, which is not in their control--the sidewalk entryway is steeply sloped and unmarked for handicapped accessibility and a number of people have fallen there. read more

This was originally a restaurant I saw in Monroe but never had a chance to eat there. It recently moved to Newtown CT (the now one of the best restaurant towns for foodies in Fairfield county CT mind you ) and I have eaten there three times thus far and the food is fabulous! I am a picky lady who grew up with a dad who taught at the Culinary Institute (French Chef) so believe me - I am all about good food. Nostrano is the latest addition of fabulous restaurants to come to Newtown CT. We are so blessed here to have them. I have had there seafood pasta dish - marvelous, I have had their veal ravioli this evening fabulous - consistently great food. Excellent food and service! We've been dining there or having take out for several years and by far they are our favorite Italian restaurant!! Everything we have had is great. We especially love their eggplant parmigiana, tagliatelle bolognese, calamari fra diavolo, fusilli with Italian sausage and broccoli rabe. And there are so many great appetizers including our favorites like Arancine, pane cotto, frito misto alla romana (calamari, shrimp, sweet and hot peppers), Tagliere Nostrano cheese and meat platter. We went to a friends house for dinner and they had picked up a pork dish, chicken francaise, and a broccoli rabe appetizer. All of the food was delicious! So good we decided to to order it the following week for my birthday dinner. I called a few days ahead of time and had set up a pick up time of 3:30PM. When I arrived to pick up the food I was told it wasn't ready and had to wait over 45 minutes. I got home and realized I wasn't given the correct order.
