One thing I do suggest, is lighten up on the teriyaki sauce. My salmon bowl had a bunch of teriyaki sauce which over took the entire taste of the bowl. The staff was really friendly and the food came out quick. Nachos were amazing!!! We ate every single bite. The way they set it up made it very appealing (see my pic). Kid had chicken tenders and fries which he loved. Hubby had the margarita pizza which he enjoyed I had the BBQ Chicken pizza which I loved. I had the small and had plenty left over for later on. My only gripe is that they charged us $3.25 for ONE glass of seltzer water. Really? What a rip! The soda was flat .. not a single bubble.. Glad I sent it back. I'm actually shocked the waiter didn't notice it didn't have one bubble. The décor beautiful .. .Looks like on nicer days you can enjoy the outside seating. Update: Visited again this weekend and my rating doesn't really change. This time I ordered the pepperoni pizza which was ok and not very greasy, but tasted similar to takeout - nothing special. My mother ordered the crab cakes again and she loved them. This isn't a restaurant for extremely picky eaters like myself, but the food does look very well-prepared and high quality. And if that's not enough, management is very nice and understanding. To quickly summarize my time here was okay. I liked the layout of the restaurant. The bread and olive oil were divine!! I could have ate it as my main course as well. It had a Parmesan cheese in it, which I usually strongly dislike, but it was very nice. For the main I ordered the mustard crusted chicken. I thought the mustard would be more subtle, but it was a little too heavy for me. I didn't like how the chicken was placed right on top of the potatoes, as the skin of the chicken ripped off and stuck to the potatoes. I don't usually like mashed potatoes, but I thought these were nice and buttery. It would have been better if there wasn't any skin beaten i. Lastly, the steamed broccoli was terrible. It was like eating water - no seasoning at all which I thought was weird (and I LOVE broccoli). I would return just for the bread and to try something else on the menu. My wife and I finally tried NYAJ. It was very good! I had the BBQ Meatloaf which came with mashed potatoes and green beans. Everything was delicious! The meatloaf was amazing with just a hint of BBQ. I loved it! I paired it with a 22 oz Sam Adam's Winter lager. My wife has the Mustard-crusted Chicken BLT which she really liked with her 22 oz Stella. The bread with dipping sauce was amazing. The name is an oxymoron, because this is one of the most painfully average American cuisine restaurants I've ever experienced on God's green earth. Price point vs food flavor is way off. I ordered the mustard-crusted chicken. The chicken was breaded and cooked well. I tasted no flavor - not even salt. I know I'm a Florida man, not privy to the flavorful cuisine of the true South (Cajun and creole included), but even I expected more flavor. My wife ordered the Waldorf salad and had no complaints. This is my third time here, first two times amazing I get the same thing every time. To start with the positive no wait and the waitress Taylor was amazing. The nachos were not that good not a lot of chicken definitely since the price increase, since half sheet is not an option anymore. Bread is always good even tho if it was served warm it would be amazing. Pizza was under cooked. The jambalaya was good. But the thing that was the most off, was the people working in the kitchen. If you are going to have an open kitchen. Seeing people texting on there phone rubbing there mustache then applying the finish touches to the food. It was one guy with a man bun and a beard. He was on his phone texting touching his face and nose then adding garnish to people's food. And even taking a couple fries out the bowl to eat. This afternoon we stopped in for a late lunch/ early dinner. The hostess wasn't anything to write home about, looked at me like I had four heads when I asked for a booth. It was my husband & our 2 1/2 year old. But we didn't let that bother us. We were greeted by a great server Jessica who made our dip for our bread in front of us. So delicious.Focaccia bread with a great seasoned oil. We ordered the kids Mac & cheese which was a generous portion for $7.49. The milk was a large cup as well. I could have eaten a second helping of potatoes because they were that good. Carrots were too charred for me. My husband raved about the mustard. Crusted chicken. It was crisp, flavorful and moist. I've been steadily come back to NYAJ's for several weeks now and very happily so. For one thing Joe's keeps luring me back with great incentives. Buck-A-Shuck Mondays, 20% off take out on Wednesdays, a 15.00 off birthday coupon, a 15% off your meal when you sign up for their newsletter and a pocket friendly happy hour. And when the food is as fresh and well prepared as it is here, it's easy to get used too. Some food highlights for me have been the happy hour wings with the BBQ chipotle glaze and the Rosemary skewered scallops. The scallops had a perfect sear and sat on top of Israeli couscous with corn, bacon and cheese. It was very different and very good. The drinks are also well made. The sangria and the pineapple painkiller were my personal favorites. By the way chew on those bits of pineapple at the bottom of that drink at your own risk. They are soaked to the bone with rum! I've dined at Not Your Average Joes (NYAJ) several times over the years, most recently two visits in January 2023. Up until my last visit, I would have rated it a mid to high 4 stars. The drink specials seem to rotate on a regular basis, but all the traditional bar drinks are readily available. I'm partial to margaritas without salt, and I like them balanced, not too sweet, not too sour. I was assured by the server that NYAJ made there's from scratch and when it arrived, I was pleased to find that it was in fact balanced and tasting of fresh lime juice and . Not the absolute best margarita I've ever had but in the top 20%. According to the website the food is "Globally inspired..." and "made from scratch." I agree second hand. There are eclectic dishes that my companions said they enjoyed, unfortunately, I have a food allergy. When a restaurant can't absolutely guarantee that a particular spice will not be used, I must pass up the dish, as good as it looks and smells. My solution is to either have a salad without dressing or to chose something very simply prepared. In the past the servers were always sensitive to my food allergy and would check with the chef before I ordered. My last visit was the same, but there wasn't anything on the menu that didn't possibly contain the spice except for the simply prepared salmon with broccoli entree No problem, I like salmon and broccoli, sometimes with a little lemon juice instead of any sauces or additives. I let the server know about my allergy and she said she would tell the chef. My simple salmon was delivered to the table. First bite, it was so salty I could barely swallow. The broccoli? Just as salty. I tried to flag down the server, but she was so busy she didn't look our way. I took another couple of bites in spite of the salt; I was hungry. Eventually, she came to the table and I told her about the saltiness. She apologized and asked if I wanted another salmon entree prepared. I should have said yes, but I didn't want to cause any trouble so I let it go. We left,but 30 minutes later I started feeling the way I do when I've ingested some of the spice. It took two days to fully recover. Whether the spice was in the salt or added to the entree some other way, I don't know. I like NYAJ, but I'm going to think three times before I consider going again. To finish: plenty of parking after 4 or 5. To be safe, reservations on busy nights if you want a booth. Older scene is the norm. Patrons wearing tie dyed T's, sandals and raggedy shorts are in short supply. Normally quiet enough to have a conversation unless you have a neighbor who has one of "those" voices. You know, a voice that is just the right pitch and timbre that you can't block it out. That happens elsewhere though, not just at NYAJ's. On the pricey side. With drinks, entrees, dessert and tip the weight was close to $190. read more

My oldest daughter treated us to a lovely dinner here last week. I have to say, I thought it was definitely NOT average. By the time I had wolfed down a couple pieces of their awesome caramelized onion and rosemary bread with a yummy cheesy garlic olive oil dip, and my "Not Your Average House Salad" - (an absolutely wonderful salad with roasted tomatoes, blue cheese and a tangy lemon dressing), I was sold. At that point, I had decided that Joe's was gonna be the kind of place where I would have a hard time not licking my plate! My entrée - the Cranberry-Teriyaki Statler Chicken (pan-roasted chicken with house-made butternut squash ricotta cannelloni and sautéed spinach) - was very good, although the chicken was a bit dry but the tasty sauce made up for that. The cannelloni was delicious and perfectly cooked, not to mention filling. The spinach - well, it was good but there wasn't a whole lot of it. I love spinach so I could have used more of that on the plate. Overall though - an A+. My family enjoyed their entrees as well - Sirloin Tips, Sage Pecan Salmon, Chicken Piccata, Spaghetti Squash Bolognese). The service was good although we did wait quite a while for entrees, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't our waiter's fault, and the second basket of bread helped hold us off. Would love to go back soon just to have that bread and salad again and try out some of their appetizers. Will have to start working on the hubby for that. We came into this place on a weekday night in January cause it was in the path from work to the hotel and had a catchy name. We will be returning due to the kind service and delicious food! (My coworker actually has moved to this area since our trip and has already been back!) They started us with some complimentary Bread and chili oil dip that was warm and too good! I say that because it made me want almost too full for my main item and I couldn't stop eating the bread. My main item was a half sized Mediterranean salad with added grilled chicken. Yes, it's a chain. Yes, it's in a mini mall. Yes, it's fantastic. Five stars fantastic. I had an exceptionally pleasant all day outing with a large group of friends. Most of us are booze swilling omnivores, a few are sober, some guys are vegan or vegetarian. We all wanted to eat together but we also wanted to find a place where the non-omnivores could have more than just a salad or a grilled cheese sandwich and a soda. Given the size of the group and where we were, it was a tall order to find a 'nice' place that served liquor and would accommodate and check all the food boxes. One gent suggested Not Your Average Joe's so we called ahead, asked if they could seat our numbers in the next 25 minutes and if they offered vegan options. Yes to everything. Another YES to ample parking btw since few of us were 'green' enough to ride share. The restaurant is BIG but it's not creepily, echo-y large. A nice, long table awaited us and our server introduced herself, quickly passed out menus and got everyone hydrated with ice water before she started taking drink and appetizer orders. I cringed a bit as I asked her if we could have separate checks. She didn't miss a beat and said if we didn't mind waiting a little bit when we paid, it was no problem at all. The guys on either side of me and I wanted to hug her but we just thanked her and hoped for the best. I was a tad nervous when I saw how extensive the menu was as that often spells mediocre and poorly cooked fare but I figured we were all seated, it was only one meal out of a lifetime of lunches and dinners, I could keep my neurotic thoughts to myself and just enjoy the company. We all had nice, gratis paper cones of soft, herby bread and a plate of olive oil, 2 cheese, garlic and red pepper flake dip placed around the table to keep our stomachs happy until we ordered. One could either dup the bread chunks into the flavored olive oil or spoon all the goodness over the bread and have a mini gustatory event in on their bread plate and then in their mouth. As promised, our server took drink orders swiftly and they were served just as swiftly while we ordered our meals. Most of the group is used to drinking in Center City where the average mixed beverage starts at $12-$15 so it was refreshing (in both senses of the word) to see $9 cocktails on the menu with options to get nicely priced pitchers of some of the more popular drinks like sangria and margaritas. There are no astounding culinary surprises at Joe's but there really is something to feed and please people of all tastes and ages. Okay-I take that back. Perhaps if you ascribe to a strict macrobiotic diet, you'd have a hard time here but then, chances are good that you also wouldn't eat out very much, if at all. Some of us had flatbreads with bbq chicken, others ahi tuna salad, Asian inspired chicken with cold noodles and lettuce cups or generously sized and well garnished burgers, 'personal' pizzas, pasta with seafood that got several thumbs up, clam chowder and a side of fries and so on. Even the 2 pickiest eaters who most of us absolutely hate dining out with were laughing, talking and Zeus be praised! cleaning their plates with no sniveling or bitching. Just one server kept all of us faultlessly on track. She was amazing and never scowled once. No one wanted for anything. None of us had room for afters or coffee. Our individual checks were quickly handed out, credit cards were processed rapidly and to the surprise and joy of us all, there was no automatic 18% to 20% gratuity added to our checks as a large party. When I discovered that, I went around the table and made sure everyone left a sizable and generous tip for our darling of a server. I've said in other reviews that I am not such a snob that I refuse to eat at chain restaurants and I stand by that. The word 'chain' is not necessarily synonymous with 'lousy.' The cooks and wait staff at Not Your Average Joe's could teach some of the trendy, indie places closer to and in Center City quite a bit about good food and a stellar customer experience. This is my first time here. Tyesha was great at taking care of us and offering us suggestions to try based on our preferences. The sangria was pretty good, standard. The cornbread was a little dry for my taste but I did enjoy it with the honey butter, which wasn't overly sweet. I enjoyed my scallops with brussel sprouts and couscous. The scallops was cooked perfectly and the couscous was very cheesy. As for the kids menu, there is a good kid favorite selection and the pizza is a very healthy portion. read more

Would recommend. I've had generally positive experiences in the past but have to comment on a negative experience after placing an order online. I asked for a simple swap out in sides (spaghetti for penne), one I'd done several times when dining in person with no issues. The person on the phone told me the only way I could accomplish this would be by ordering an entree version of penne ($20) and/or canceling my order. Poor customer experience. You'd think they would be able to take a simple note and talk to the kitchen, but the person on the phone was firm and not willing to make exceptions.
