Decent food at a decent price. The staff was quite friendly. The cheeseburger was exceptional. Over all, slightly above average!

Specifically came here because of the gluten free menu. Was very excited , as there are not many gluten free options when eating out. I misunderstood what the server had said to me, and ended up eating a giant cube of regular bread. I knew it was too good to be true. When the manager came out with the 'gluten free' roll, I was shocked. I couldn't believe I ate all that regular bread. The manager was very apologetic , thank god I have a gluten intolerance and not a gluten allergy! The waitress was also very apologetic. I ordered the lettuce wraps for dinner. They were a little dry, but when I added additional dressing they were better. my fiancé had the pulled pork pretzel bites, which he said were very dry. He also had the crab cake sandwich, the crab itself was okay but it lacked flavor and the bun was terrible. Fries were bad too! service was good, and I guess you could say that the name of the restaurant says it all... 'Average' ! not great! read more

This is our favorite restaurant we ate there last night ordered the new squash ravioli to die for Yum our waiter was John and he was one of the best waiters we have had at any restaurant he,s truly an asset to this company. Went in today with my service dog and was refused service. I sat outside and never walked in with my animal and was told I couldn't be served because the health inspectors were coming today. My animal is a registered service dog and goes everywhere with me. I have never had this issue before and will never go back! read more

We were a party of 8 with special dietary needs and the manager and staff were absolutely amazing! They were not only extremely helpful and accommodating but they were also very gracious and understanding. The food and atmosphere were terrific. We love the Not Your Average Joe's in Woburn and Westwood, so we decided to take the drive from Dennis Port to Hyannis for lunch. We made a reservation on OpenTable and mistakenly made the reservation for 3 people, not 4. We would have been more than happy to wait for a table, if necessary, due to our mistake in making the reservation. However, the hostess accommodated us at the table directly behind the hostess stand and said 'I know this isn't a desirable table but it's summer and we are busy,' though there were plenty of tables available (there were even 2 tables directly behind us available). From there, we had a very kind waitress, but very slow service. She brought us bread when she first came over to the table and apologized that there wasn't much bread in the basket, but said she would bring more bread when it was ready. We finished our entire basket of bread before our drinks came out. I understand that the bar could have been backed up (causing a delay in our raspberry lime rickies and mango mantra smoothie coming out), but we would have appreciated at least having water with our bread. Our food was delicious, as always, but when we were finished eating, there was, again, slow service in receiving our check. When our waitress finally delivered it, she apologized for the delay and explained she was busy putting in a catering order. As always, the food was amazing, but it seems like there is a disconnect between the food and customer service at this location (between being assigned an undesirable table, when so many others were open, instead of using it as a last resort when the restaurant is packed, and the extremely slow, inattentive, service- we were never asked how our meals were, if there was anything else she could get us, or offered our free desserts with our kids meals, as we have been at other locations, which we did not realize until we left). read more

This was our go to place for a long time either shopping at the mall or a nice dinner before getting on ferry to the island. We really loved this place. But the next to our last meal we ate there was later in the evening, and our meatloaf meals were cold. This usually is very flavorful and a favorite. Honestly having one bad experience was no big deal for us that one time. But tonight.... this was different. We were a group of six. Two ordered chicken enchiladas, both plates were cold and reported not to taste as good as in the past and chicken was grisly. Two ordered spaghetti squash with mushroom bolognese, this dish was horrible. I cannot even believe it stays on the menu. It tasted like Campbell's tomato vegetable soup underneath tasteless spaghett squash, with spinach that was between wilted and cooked... as i said terrible. I sent my plate back and made the mistake of ordering a plain medium cooked burger. The burger finally arrived after all other guest were done eating, cooked WELL DONE. C'mon? How hard is it to get a burger right? Also we had one child who ordered a side of mashed potatoes with side of gravy. The gravy turned out to be bbq sauce, and I can not describe the taste and texture of the "mashed" potatoes. He did not eat them. Only one guest was happy with her quesadilla. It was very disappointing, not sure what is happening to their quality control. I will give them this credit, they removed one of the bolognese meals, my burger, and the child's potato from the bill, which was nice, but would rather have had a nice and delicious dining experience. This place used to prepare everything fresh on site, I can't help questioning whether this is still true. I'll say this, the focaccia bread and dip they bring to the table to get you started was great as usual. I'm sure we will try one more time in the future. read more

The food was fine, though not as good as the one in Randolph. My problem was with the service. We were a party of six with an elderly person in a wheel chair. They sat us at a table for four and squished us in. Needless to say it was quite crowded. There was no room for bread plates and dinner plates on the table. The food took a very long time to come out and after it did I felt we were hurried along. When the dinner plates were cleared away the waitress had the bill in her hand and had it on the table before asking if we wanted anything more. read more

First, let me say that i am a 55 year old female professional who works in the area. This restaurant is a big step up from fast food chains, and is somewhere you can take a breather for an hour or so. Menu is decent, atmosphere fine, no scruffy diners, but no one trying to be high end either. It is just a happy medium, and some of the menu items are very good! Not to mention the bread!! I go there once a week or so. It is just a very pleasant place to be. Not spectacular, but above average for sure, and worth returning to. No, i would not drive 50 miles for it, but i still choose it over the more expensive places downtown. read more

We have a house in Hyannis and over the years have pretty much eaten everywhere and have tried all the yummy local food eateries and LOVE Hyannis. This passed week my son and I were in the mall and very hungry and didn't really want to eat in a Mall!!?? However we strolled into Joe's and it was very crowded so we sat at the bar. Wow, we got the Sangria and it was so yummy! We then got lettuce roll ups for an appetizer and they were delicious. My son got a yummy burger and I had the salmon and tomato tart. Very impressive, fun atmosphere and perfect service. We will go back even if its just for the bread and oil they give you right away...it is delicious! read more

Definitely my favorite place to eat out!! Always my first choice restaurant. Atmosphere is great and the servers are always very friendly and timely. The bread and dipping oil you get before ordering is absolutely delicious. My favorite item on the menu is their steak tips, they are to die for! we went to Joe's today for a quick lunch before shopping at the cape cod Mall. Usually this place is pretty good;however, one part of our meal really turned me off. We ordered two ice teas that arrived as greenish colored water. When I asked what we received i was informed by Zachery that the ice tea maker was malfunctioning and would we like something else. I then changed to cokes. point is why serve something that is obviously not up to standard.Also, the cokes were so watered down that they quickly morphed into flavored water. mind you, at $3.00 for each drink Joes' can do better than that. So watch out, the food is ok but the beverages will be a rude surprise. read more

Was it REALLY draft Dogfish 60 min. IPA? I don't think so!!!! Bartender swore by it, or me under her breath. Maybe Harpoon or Sam Adams? Poor "local beers" when it's called Pauloner &/ or pumpkin ale. Pizza vs. flatbread? I had to dip each piece in the oil. Eat only the center, and request a side of red sauce....where was the three cheese etc? Oh well. Bread was NOT "warm" before it. Cape Codders are 'sooo laid back, it's no worry'.... HUH? not true. The younger families ARE speaking out, and true.( Parents taught them well). I opted out for Shipyard's bottled IPA, but was convinced to get the 'seasonal'.. Not the"'a bit deeper color, stronger,..." IPA! It was a porter! Cute blond chick bartender, but who needs one when you want a GOOD ale, knowledgeable server (bartender), and hungry enough to choose beer, pizza, and bread with oil?. Good thing I didn't eat it all, and oh.. the oil was great....Went to buy a real ale at the 'packy afterward....Hyannis Lukes sucked for "craft" beer. Why does each store differ in selection? It was pretty good! They offer a large selection of gluten free options! I got the Waldorf salad, which, despite having too much cheese and dressing, was really good! The service was excellent. They offer a large variety of different foods; my appetizer was Asian style dumplings. read more

Well, where do I begin. Yes, it was a Saturday night, I realize it was going to be quite busy. I arrived and of course it was extremely busy, the hostess was very friendly but very overwhelmed. She told my husband and I and my two young sons that it would be a 40 minute wait. So we opted to go to the arcade for the 40 minute wait. We returned to( not your average Joe's) 40 minutes later to find out we were to have to wait an additional 15 minutes. Which wouldn't have been bad but as we did there waiting people that arrived after us were seated without reservations. That was the first thing that aggravated me. Finally we were seated in between to loud parties that were obnoxious. When our waitress finally decided to make her presence known she was very flustered and informed us that "I'm so sorry this is my first night off of training on my own".I was like oh no let's see how this goes. She took our drink order and disappeared for which seemed like a half an hour, when she returned she only had three of the four drinks that we ordered. So she had to return to go get my beer. Which took another ten minutes. When she returned she took our dinner orders which they were pretty clear and simple. My husband ordered the tuna appetizer, my younger soon ordered the kids cheese pizza, my older son ordered the sirloin tips, and finally I also ordered the sirloin tips.Then she was off again for what seemed like an hour when she finally returned she only brought my husband's tuna appetizer, my younger son's cheese pizza, and my older son's steak tips. My dinner was no where to be found. Because she had never put my steak tip dinner order in. So needless to say I didn't get to have dinner with my family. She wanted me to order again and I said"no I'm good thanks that would take to long and my family have already waited for over two hours to eat. So I had bread and beer for dinner. She did not comp anything or even offer coupons for another visit, nothing not a free dessert nothing. I don't have to tell you that I was pretty pissed off by now. Dint get me wrong my husband and I have had a lovely time last time we had dined at this location but last night's experience I'm not going to be returning here ever again. This all could've been avoided if my waitress could have tried to resolve our bad dinner experience with anything, comp or meals, or free dessert, free coupons to dine again with them but nothing. So again I will never return to Not Your Average Joe's. So extremely appointed. :( read more

I eat. That's what I do, and I've been eating at "Joe's" since it opened. I had always come here for a good cheap meal, sometimes for comfort food, sometimes for something a little more "gourmet". The menu changes quarterly(ish) and the specials change monthly and there is always something new and interesting, as well as some great old standbys. I frequently get the Ahi Tuna Wontons (hold the wontons) and it is about the best sushimi in town! On the latest special menu I've taken a liking to both the Stuffed Quahog and the New Bedford Scallops, but am always willing to go out on a limb and try something new, too. The wine list is well chosen and diverse. The specialty cocktails are always good. Two of my favorites being a hot pepper margarita and their frozen mojito. (On the latter, don't let the bar tender make their preference of a less sweet version, ask them to stick to the recipe.. It is one of the best I've had) all in all, you really can't go wrong with this place. It is consistently good and constantly changing. Try and stay away from peak hours so you avoid the crowds, but it's a perfect place for a late lunch or late evening dinner. read more

My husband and I dine here frequently due to the great service and great food!! As others have mentioned they always aim to please by doing substitutions if need be and have always had friendly, knowledgable staff. They have half price appetizers during the week in the bar area between 3-6 so my co-workers and I also frequent here often! The buffalo caribbean chicken tenders and the ahi tuna wontons are my favorites! Like someone else had mentioned the raspberry lime rickeys with free refills are amazing. The entree salads are huge and always satisfying, I personally love the mona lisa chicken salad or the waldorf salad. For entrees I love the cod, salmon, vegetarian version of the squash cannelonis, harvest mac and cheese and burgers. For some of the comments about how the prices were a little high, I do have to say I've never left feeling hungry where the portion sizes are always more than enough! I also feel they have a great management team because where I frequent often I have gotten to know both Bruce and Aiden who are always eager to please and super friendly! One of my favorite things is years ago when I did the survey on the ipod at the end of my meal and gave my email and birthday, they now every year send me an email with a coupon for a free meal to come and celebrate my birthday with them, which we always do in which I get the pan seared scallops (which are absolutely amazing!!!!) Another thing I like that most people don't know they do is they are involved in helping the community as well. I am a volunteer for a local charity and NYAJ has a program that they do called Not your average cause. They had a month where one day of the week for the month if someone dined there and mentioned the charity they gave a portion of the proceeds to that charity! I feel because they have great service, great food and care about their community that why wouldn't you dine there?! read more

I've eaten here three times. Thie restaurant delivers consistently good meals, with excellent service, at a very reasonable price for the Cape. I'm a hamburger guru and AJ prepares a tasty hunk of ground beef. I order my burgers medium rare (yeah, I know, not always a safe bet). The burger/bacon/cheeseburger I had tonight was right on the mark. Perfectly cooked. I didn't care for the fries that came with the burger. They weren't quite hot enough and a bit chewy. I barely touched them. I would have given a five-star review if not for that. The waitstaff was well deserving of the 20 percent I'm always happy to tip for good service. The check came on a clipboard on which there was glued an Apple iPod. A bit unusual presentation to say the least. The iPod was opened to a survey app. I almost never bother with surveys but I went along and filled this one out. It was partly curiosity and novelty. It was also partly an appreciation of the management honestly wanting to know what their customers thought about the meal and service immediately after finishing the meal. I've never really had a chance to offer my impressions of a restaurant on the spot and I must admit, I liked being able to do so. On the Cape, good restaurants at prices commensurate with the food and service are as rare as gemstones from Mars. AJ is an exception. The restaurant is in the CC Mall and overlooks the very busy parking lot. It's not scenic but the food and service make up for it. It's one of the few restaurants that I would recommend for casual dining. read more
