I visit the Laurel location quite often - 1-3/week because I love the food and the customer service. There is a young lady at this location who always greets me "hello Ma'am" with a smile. She is cordial and knows exactly how I like my bowl prepared. The only question she asks is, if I haven't said, "are you having chicken today too, ma'am"? To be completely honest, I did not know what to expect when I chose to eat at this restaurant. The interior is very similar to the trending cafeteria/warehouse looking interiors with exposed air conduit and pipes on the ceiling, and cafeteria tables and chairs on a tiled floor. There is a soda machine and utensils station on the left side of the restaurant, and the line to put in your order is on the right. I usually try to avoid restaurants like this one because when they offer two completely different styles of food, and I've noticed that when that happens one or both of the offered styles of food suffers. However, Notos definitely pulled it off. We ordered off of the kabob menu (as opposed to their assemble your own meal menu like Chipotle). I ordered the Chicken and Beef Kabob combo meal. My wife ordered the Salmon and Shrimp Kabob combo meal. They both came with rice, salad, and bread. The kabob's for both meals were dusted with some spices and were fantastic. The meat was nice and juicy, and the salad that came with the meal was very fresh. This was not the only time we ordered from this establishment. A few weeks later we ordered the Six Piece Fried Chicken combo meal (it came with a biscuit). I have to tell you that I was completely taken by surprise by Notos' fried chicken. It was one of the best pieces of fried chicken I have had in Laurel in a long time. I'm talking just as good if not better than any of the national franchise fried chicken restaurants all across America. It was hot, juicy, crispy, and when they say it is spicy they mean it ( definitely leaves your lips burning a bit). Their French fries are good too (the battered type). My only complaint is that the restaurant is a little pricey, but what restaurant isn't these days since Covid spiked up all the pricing. While the food was served hot and the workers were very attentive/welcoming, the food was mid. I did get the 10pc fried shrimp combo with fries, so that could possibly be my fault. The food looked appetizing, though the shrimp was under seasoned and slightly overcooked, I definitely ate them. I think you could taste the oil, like it was old or something. The fries were alright, but I would say the fries were the star of the show. They were crunchy fries and soft in the middle. My eyes could be playing games on me but the man who took my order was wearing bright blue disposable gloves and put my order on the computer with the gloves on, exchanged money, and prepared my food with the same gloves. Unfortunately, I was never able to taste the food, so my rating is due to poor customer service. After shopping at Total Wine, I decided to try out the restaurant. I decided on a Mediterranean Bowl for myself and mac and cheese for my 3 year old. Since I had a 30-minute drive home, I asked for my sauce on the side. As I was walking towards my front door, seconds after taking the bag out of my car, my dinner spilled out of the bag and onto my sidewalk. I don't get to Laurel often, but I wanted to call and let them know what happened to prevent another customer from ending up in my situation. After sharing with the manager what happened, the first thing that she said was there isn't anything they can do about it. Of course, I shared my dissatisfaction. She spoke to someone else and then told me I needed to come back in tonight. Here it is, Sunday night at 9 pm, and she expected me to make a 30-minute drive back to the restaurant to rectify the situation. Mind you, I purchased my meal at 7 pm. I shared the challenge with my returning tonight and asked to speak with her supervisor. She stated that they were busy before hanging the phone up on me. Getting back to the restaurant would be difficult. H had the restaurant apologized and taken ownership for their error, I would have been satisfied even if I never cashed in on the offer. The food seems okay but the service really needs an upgrade. both of the cashier seemed to have only a tenuous grasp on the english language. It took more than 5 minutes to ring up two people because they didn't seem to understand the POS system. the location is great and the concept is also okay but the service really made me unable to give anything more than 1 star. This is my second time trying and my last. The first time I had the shrimp. They tasted okay but wasn't wowed and hey weren't big. This time I had the whiting and it's trash. The food is frozen/thrawed so my fish while it looks perfectly seasoned and has decent flavor, the fish was completely mushy. I immediately threw it in the trash. It may do Mediterranean food okay, it seems that has the best reviews but saying they are southern is a stretch. Nothing is southern about this place. At first glance, you do a double take of the menu because this business offers fried chicken and dishes from the Middle East! I had the chicken Shawarma and basically it's like going to a chipotle. I saw the restaurant while making a tequila run at Total Wine, decided to stop and bring something home. I was not disappointed. I ordred a catfish and a 3 piece platter but I just didn't feel like also ordering typical sides. I saw the chick peas over to the right and orders up a small side to go. I also thought a good compliment to the chicken and fish was a salad and ordered one too. My salad was delicious, I'm just so happy to go in and order up my favorite southern fried protein, and get a mouth of mediterranean goodness. The cucumbers, baba ganoush, and cilantro humus, and olives, added to the lettuce with their hot and tahini sauces was the perfect compliment to the fried side. My only complaint is the placement of the tape on the box. I finished that salad but I did not eat all of the chicken and fish. If I were out somewhere and wanted to box up what's left I want to make sure one of the boxes is still operable to fold back up and get to later. If this place were close to my home, somewhere on a major road to/from DC into the Largo Bowie area I would be ordering up that salad and the sides for pick up or delivery at least 2x a week. The toppings were all pretty standard and very fresh and I felt like the chicken WAS NOT sitting in an inch of it's own grease which is often the case. Went in here expecting to get some fish and ended up with the best Mediterranean Bowl I've ever had in my life. David helped us to make decisions on what went well together (their shawarma with cilantro hummus was an amazing combo). And their house made sauces really topped it off. He was telling us everything is made fresh daily and you can absolutely tell! We chatted with David for a few moments about the shop (southern cooking and mediterannian seemed like a unique combo) and he had us try a piece of the chicken and wow, it was super tender and full of flavor. Easily beat other chickens like Popeyes and KFC. We were stuffed by the amount of food in the bowls, so we took home some chicken for the rest of the family (and we will steal a piece for ourselves). We have already decided that every time we are in the area we are stopping in for more of their amazingly delicious food and friendly staff. Meh. I ordered Uber Eats from here, and they did not follow instructions of putting my sauce on the side -- even though it was right there on the receipt. I got two chicken bowls and they were just okay. Very expensive and comparable in size to Mezeh or Cava, but almost twice the price. No matter what you could possibly be craving, Notos Southern bites has it all - some fried fish or chicken to hit that craving, or some Mediterranean options definitely worth exploring. Everything was delicious. I loved putting the juicy meat in my mouth perfectly blended with the other ingredients. As for the service, staff was deliciously pleasant, ingredients were very nicely arranged in an elongated square pattern, and my special needs were definitely catered to. Not saying this is a catering company, but who knows? Notos has a beautifully bright future ahead of it...who knows if they might show up at your local wedding, circumcision, or Beaver Appreciation ceremony!
