Stopped by for an early dinner/late lunch and left pleasantly surprised! At first, we weren't sure if we were in the takeout area, but the staff quickly got us a table even though it seemed like he was running the show solo. We tried the tuna nachos, the po' boy special, and the chipotle burger. The nachos were amazing...just the right balance of flavors with a hint of sweet spice I hadn't noticed before. The burger was smoky, charred to perfection, and my husband couldn't get enough of his sandwish (he actually admitted he loved the food this time!). Fries weren't quite what I remembered, missing a bit of that crunch and sweet-salty punch. Service was friendly and attentive, checking water and offering boxes at the right moments. The mix of punkish edge and rustic charm makes it a great spot for lunch or dinner with friends or family. read more

Back again after brief hiatus. As former frequent diners of BFG, Nova is a natural evolution of everything Stacy and Kelly do right. I enjoyed the classic Baja Mahi Tacos, my son, the Barbacoa Wet Burrito; wonderful! Attentive service from Tom and a Key Lime pie to go made this visit as good as any other. ***3 1/2 stars*** It's been years since I've been over here for a meal, so this was the first time I've been by under the rebranded Nova. I really liked Blue Fish and its seafood-centric menu; the menu still has a number of seafood items, but most of the edgier ones have been sacrificed in place of more Asian/Tex Mex cuisine. It's definitely not bad, but I thought it was a cut below the original Blue Fish and my takeaway was that they kind of messed with a good thing. I came by here this past Saturday afternoon (3:30ish) with my OG chums. This little spot in Flemington is pretty cute, even in the dead of winter - there's a lot of edgy artisan-focused shops and a really nice coffee shop next door. The interior of Nova is...hard to describe. I'm honestly not trying to be offensive; it's technically nice, but just devoid of personality. An acquaintance of mine bought a 19th century house and then took out everything interesting and modernized it - it was reminiscent of that. There's just not a lot of character to it, which is surprising if you've been in any of the other nearby businesses, because they really hammer home the historic origins of this building as a ye olde factory. Feels like a real missed opportunity for a more unique dining experience. I was hoping to hear some edgy specials involving some of the less-mainstream fish, but the one entree in that vein was centered on cod, which I'm pretty ambivalent about. As a result, I opted for the ala carte section of the menu and selected the grilled salmon with a side of mashed potatoes and wasabi aioli. Not bad; a solid helping of everything, with a well-seasoned piece of salmon. Really the only mild issue was the presentation value; as you can see in the attached picture, it's pretty barebones and could have used a garnish or something. But that's just a nitpick and arguably not even an issue. The service was very good. Our waiter visited regularly and was particularly attentive about refilling the drinks. This was a quick meal, and that's a tribute to the turnaround time from ordering to receipt of the food. This wasn't a negative experience by any means, but by very publicly declaring its affiliation/ties with the prior Blue Fish brand, to me it was just pointing out the selling points of the previous restaurant that aren't here anymore. read more

Walked over with the bride and had a perfect night out on the patio! Crab Rangoon Dip to start which was filled with chunks of crab meat and delicious, the homemade nacho chips were the perfect vessel to transport this delicacy to my pie hole and yes, I used my fingers to wipe the bowl clean . We then we split a Kimchi Bowl with Mahi Mahi, also delicious. Sorry I didn't take a picture of either dish but we were starving. Shout out to another local gem, Lone Eagle Brewery for the perfect beverage to wash it all down (picture included ). read more

This is a long overdo review of this wonderful restaurant. The food is always delicious and the diverse menu offers something for everyone. We love the entrees that are offered as kimchi bowls with rice, avocados, a spicy sauce and your choice of protein. The flavors and textures make it a very satisfying meal. We have now been here twice since Blue Fish Grill updated their dine-in restaurant to Nova. We returned after a while since they brought back some of their popular favorites! It's familiar with a few new additions. The interior has definitely been upgraded, and the service is as good as remember it before. Looking to spend an enjoyable evening at a casual byob in Flemington NJ? A great choice is NOVA on Mine Street, with a short, but very well curated menu. We tried the Shishito peppers and Chicken Wings for appetizers and we chose well. Both were well sauced with mouth-watering flavors. This was followed by the Thai Shrimp Curry Noodle bowl, the Hot Honey Fried Chicken and tasty Chorizo burger. All were well portioned with great sides including well seasoned French fries, broccoli rabe and a nice mound of mashed potatoes. The noodle bowl was filled with shrimp and noodles in a heat happy curry sauce. Prices are more than reasonable and, again, it's a BYO to boot. We will definitely be making a return visit. We had the Pork Nachos and the Crab Rangoon appetizers. We all had bowls, one with Salmon one with Chicken and one with Crabcake. Everyone enjoyed their entrees. We had reserved a table outside but the sky opened and they had already adjusted the reservation to be inside. One anomaly on drinks some allowed a free refill and others didn't. Lemonade free refill Iced tea or Half and Half no. Found that odd. Overall we had a wonderful time. It got a bit loud as they filled up. We were in town for the fireworks so I shouldn't complain. read more

I hate leaving bad reviews; and this is a shame because I think their food is pretty tasty. I just have a couple problems that I think the business owner should be able to address. First and most important is the art in the lobby. I seriously hate to do this because I'm not a sensitive person and I'm not personally offended, but they have a very distasteful piece of art hanging when you walk into the restaurant. There's a painting with racial slurs written on it. I almost walked out and didn't try the food, but then I realized they were song lyrics from an 80s punk band, and gave the store owner the benefit of the doubt that maybe they didn't realize that the N word is written on their painting along with some other derogatory words or at the very least they didn't put it there with malicious intent. But seriously, I think the owner needs to take a seat in the lobby and think about why someone living in a town like Flemington would feel uncomfortable eating at your restaurant. Hopefully this is just an oversight and the owner didn't read the words written on the painting and will replace it after reading this review; because it left a bad taste in my mouth and we almost walked out because of it. Let's move on the food: I think it's actually pretty good, but again I have some issues. First up is the identity crisis this place is going through. This restaurant is also Blue Fish Grill, but they switched that restaurant to take out only and turned the dine-in restaurant into Nova. If you look at both menus, they're pretty similar, so why the change? I'm not docking any points for this, but I just don't think the jump from Blue Fish to Nova elevated the experience at all as it's still the same dining room and service that I used to get at Blue Fish and at both places I usually would always order the rice bowl with salmon. Let's talk more about the food. Look, I understand that food and labor prices have been increasing over the past few years, but tell me why I pay $22 for a salmon rice bowl and still leave the restaurant hungry? The bowl is delicious, but the portion sizes are so small. For that price you don't have to give me that much of a bigger piece of salmon, but at least load the bowl up with rice and vegetables so I don't leave hungry. I said it before, the food tastes great, I'm still craving that bahn mi bowl, but at the price point I shouldn't have less food than I would get at Chipotle. That's the shame. The food tastes great and flemington is in dire need of good restaurants, but little issues here and there are holding this place back. The service was fine. No alcohol but they do sell wine bottles and have a byob option. I won't say I'm never going back. I'll check it out again in a month or so to see how things go, but if that painting is still there I'm going to walk right back out. If they fix some of these issues I'll delete this review or revise it back to a 4-5 stars. Honestly, if that painting in the lobby didn't exist I would have just had my food and left without any problems. read more

My wife and I stop by Nova for a late dinner recommendation of a local brewery. Dining room is on the smaller side but very nice and clean. Our Server was fast friendly and very helpful. As far as the food everything no exaggeration EVERYTHING was excellent. Fries are outstanding. Definitely will return and recommend Nova to family and friends. read more

Nova is our favorite local restaurant hands down. We used to come when it was Blue Fish Grill but now we love it even more and it's our go-to place. The burger is the main reason for my kids! Our favorite new BYOB. Creative and varied menu which rotates. The tater tot nachos are awesome. Lots of spices/seasonings in many of the dishes we've tried so far which I love but if you're spice-sensitive you should consult your server. We've had Tommy both times and he's great. We haven't tried the desserts yet because there's a nice ice cream shop just a couple doors down. As the weather warms there will be outdoor seating available. Reservations on Yelp although both times we went (6pm on Saturday) there were plenty of seats but we hope this place does well so that ressies are necessary! read more

So glad to see Stacy and Kelly creating again. Nova is newly open and great. The lower dining room has been repainted and the stairs wall wallpapered for a fresh look. (The upper DR will be refreshed in the coming months.) The menu was limited (6 apps, 6 entrees) week 1 and will slowly expand. We tried the Korean Short Ribs - flanken cut ribs with a slightly sweet soy based bbq sauce, served with slightly spicy bok choy, rice and kimchi - and the Citrus Salmon - the citrus glazed seemed to be a mix of fruits (very balanced and tasty) and was served on a wonderful salad of greens, multi-colored carrot strips with a zaatar dressing. Both entrees had a pleasant mix of flavors, nothing was overwhelming. Service was friendly, helpful (our server had tried all the dishes and could describe them in depth) and charming. Nova is BYOB (wine or beer). They will slowly be expanding their operating days and hours. (Blue Fish Grill is doing takeout orders only from the new upstairs kitchen.) read more

Just wow! I am the PICKIEST eater - with food allergies and all...and they went WAY beyond my expectations! Tommy was our server, he was so patient with us. Was lucky enough to get to try Nova a few different times during their soft opening, and managed to try everything on the menu, and literally everything I ate was fantastic! The mix of Latin/Asian is extremely well done here. Standouts for me included the Thai sticky wings (I would put them up against anyone's wings in the state right now (tangy, hint of spice, and a little sweet), the adobo pork, and warm tofu with spicy garlic chili oil and broccoli, and of course, the wild mushroom pozole ramen bowl- somehow spicy, earthy, bright and rich all at once! Service was as good as you remember it from Blue Fish; friendly, knowledgeable, easygoing. Food arrived quickly at every visit- they have service down pat! The new decor matches the vibe and food- comfortable but definitely elevated. This is the most exciting restaurant to open in Hunterdon County in long, long time. Congratulations to Nova! We have eaten at blue fish many times and enjoyed the variety and flavors so was hoping for another great dining experience since the owners are the same. Unfortunately, the new Nova under delivered. We ordered multiple different items ranging from the burger to the short ribs and only the hamburger delivered. The short ribs were super dry, burnt and expensive. The pork belly was more like pulled pork on rice with little flavor while the chicken was average. As the restaurant tried to evolve itself, it really feels like it took three steps back. We had high hopes but don't think we will be back unless things change dramatically. Wish them the best. read more

Would not recommend the short ribs, like another reviewer said - they were thin slices of burnt dry meat. The worst I've ever had. However, the people we dined with, their entrées looked amazing so I would definitely go back just not get the short ribs again. read more
