The Flemington Diner is unexpectedly nice. It's located in the Prestige Plaza along with Stop & Shop. It's one of the nicest looking diners I've ever been too, with the interior looking very sharp. I went to the Flemington Diner for a nice breakfast. Which they did not disappoint! I got some silver dollar pancakes and the flemington milkshake which were both delicious. Our host was extremely attentive and accommodating for my seeing eye puppy in training. They gave me a booth for her to settle under and made sure we were comfortable. The shop was mostly clean but has lots of crumbs pushed into the side of the wall, which my puppy brought to my attention. This is a very nice Hunterdon County diner, however the prices much like the Clinton Station Diner right off of Interstate 78 West are eye watering. I know inflation is out of control lately, but any salad that costs $26 belongs at a place like The Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan or at least one of the 5 star diners you find in the slums of Newark (don't be surprised to find a $50 per person diner out there near Broad Street). This diner didn't disappoint - I was in the mood for a burger and decided the Philly Cheeseburger was the best burger, and hubby chose the French Dip Sandwich - both with fries. Got together yesterday with my old friend while in the midst of a bad migraine. The medication I take to combat it worked; I was pain-free in a relatively short period of time, but the pill knocked me for a loop, as it sometimes will. My friend wanted to stop at Costco and then get something to eat, which we usually do mid-week, "old friends getting together," (or, as my birth mother laughingly refers to it, our "date night") and I grunted my assent, zombie-fashion. (I should mention that we dine together regularly, not that we go to Costco regularly). He was driving and I was just along for the ride. His "5 minutes at Costco" turned into 45, and I really wanted nothing more than to go home and crawl into bed and escape into oblivion on this dark, dreary evening, but I hadn't eaten all day, so when he suggested the Flemington Diner, located off of Rt 31 North not far from the Costco, I was agreeable. No matter how bad the migraines have gotten, and they've gotten very, very bad over the years since my childhood, it has seldom affected my appetite. It was 6pm when we pulled into the parking lot of the diner, which was largely empty. We were able to get a non-handicapped parking spot right by the front door. My friend said, "This can't be good; 6pm and the place is practically empty." But, being the intrepid, epicurean warriors we are (although I'm not sure that a diner, no matter how high-end it is, or how accomplished its staff may be, can qualify as "epicurean"), we soldiered on through the front door. The diner was large, spacious, and there weren't many people partaking of its food. We were ushered to a seat, I was brought a Pepsi, and we were both brought glasses of water. One thing I've always liked in diners is Matzoh ball soup, as does my friend. When we learned it was on the menu, he ordered a cup, and I ordered a bowl. Right away, I had a problem. The texture of the matzoh ball was quite dense and had a somewhat off-putting feel while chewing it that I've never encountered before in matzoh balls. My friend had the same reaction, and said, "I'm glad I only ordered a cup." Despite my hesitancy, I ate everything in the bowl. At least it was hot. But I was a little bit anxious about the forthcoming meal. I should mention that my friend can be an annoying handful in a restaurant. I always end up sympathizing with our servers. My friend will always "remember" to ask for separate checks when we're halfway through our meal. He'll ask if the chef in the back has on gloves and a hairnet when preparing the food (I'm not oblivious to such concerns, but I'm more "realistic" and pragmatic about what goes on in the back of a restaurant). He'll ask for more syrup, more butter, more rolls, etc., than are being provided. At one greasy-spoon diner in upstate NY, after we finished, the server asked us perfunctorily how we liked our meals. My friend answered, "Well, the eggs were a little runnier than I like." The server stared at us with blank apathy before wandering away without another word. I had to laugh. On this occasion, he spilled half of his soup into his lap. The server brought him some towels to wipe himself off with. My friend asked me, "Don't you think he should bring me another cup of soup?" I shrugged, and replied, "I don't know what the protocol is when you spill soup on yourself in a restaurant. I've never done it." If I were smart, I'd have ordered the "Healthy Choice" breakfast, which consists of 2 poached eggs (I haven't had a poached egg since my grandmother was alive, many, many moons ago) on a bed of spinach served with dry multigrain toast. Instead, I ordered the "Breakfast Quesadilla," which consists of a tortilla stuffed with scrambled eggs, bacon, and Monterey and cheddar cheese, accompanied by small dishes of salsa and sour cream. It comes with a side order of Home Fries. Being in the grip of Sumatriptan intoxication (I'm gonna blame it on that), I disregarded intelligent health consciousness and ordered an additional side of corned beef hash. The Matzoh ball soup had been less than stellar (although if you like your Matzoh balls dense, it might be right for you), but the rest of what we ordered was plentiful, and good. So plentiful, in fact, that I left half a plate of my corned beef hash behind and didn't order dessert. My friend (I can't remember what he ordered, but it was healthier and more moderate than what I had) looked at the ravaged remnants of food on my plate and said, "Wow, you really ate a lot!" Service wasn't overly warm, but it was professional and efficient. Even if my friend wasn't able to procure another cup of soup for himself. Prices aren't especially cheap, but the food, as I've mentioned, is plentiful and basically pretty good. I'm not in Flemington a lot (I've never really warmed to the area, quite frankly), but if I happen to be there again, I wouldn't be averse to eating here. I think I'll stay away from the Matzoh ball soup, though. read more

My folks always talk about this diner and how good it is. On our way back from NY, we tried it out. The inside of the place was clean and elegant. The staff was dressed professionally and gave a show of a quality Diner that takes pride in their work. The food tasted delicious, as I had a cheese omelet and coffee. My review for this restaurant is less than one star! It started off by the general manager, whose name is Jose . Before I was about to be seated when I entered the restaurant, I asked for a window seat . Jose, who seems to be the manager told me and I quote "don't tell me how to do my job you'll sit here". He threw my menu onto a table located in the back of the restaurant . When I asked if it was an issue to have a window seat, he picked up my menu and literally threw it at a table near a window. I had to complain because I found a piece of her blonde hair in my food !!! When I confronted her and said something, she actually gave me an attitude and stormed away with my plate ! She had no idea how to even appropriately address our table! She asked " you ready to order yet", and when came time for the end of service, she didn't even ask if we were ready for our check she just threw it on our table and told us to check out at the front!! She was on her phone most of the time in the back of the Restaurant, not even paying attention to our table ! As I was checking out, I told the manager my concerns about his server and he told me it was my decision to come back to the restaurant or not,, not his!!! When I asked to speak to the owner, he told me they were never there anyway good luck, trying to get a hold of them!! I was so high right by the time I left this facility!!! Not to mention the $45 they wanted for a cup of coffee, an omelette, and a side of bacon ! I will never return here ! Telling everyone I can about this place ! The service is as expected from a diner, a bit on the slower side especially when it came to refilling drinks. I'm adding a fourth star to an otherwise three-star experience because the coffee and espresso menu stood out here. There was way more than the standard cup of joe available at most diners I've been to. The cafe au lait was honestly the highlight of my breakfast here. For COVID-19, a large part of the parking lot has been turned into outdoor dining. Tables were a good distance apart and had large umbrellas for shade. read more

I was in the mood for breakfast, so I ordered an omelette which came with toast and home fries, which I don't really care for them, prefer hashbrowns. I asked if I could sub the home fries and toast for pancakes. I get a quick No from Ms attitude, (blonde hair, late 20's early 30's). Toast came with my Oder and I got one little jelly tub of jelly for 2 slices of toast. The toast had enough butter on it for like 4 slices of toast. We were checked on one time. When we were done, we waited on the waitress. My wife went to the restroom and found the waitress in the bathroom just talking on her phone. She finally brought our bill and we left. I sat in a stool at the counter right across from the most important piece of equipment in the house - their Cecilware FE 100 percolator, well known since the last century for brewing the best high volume Java in the States. Service came with a smile, and the Country Omelet I ordered was very good 3 egger, full of onion, pepper, tomato, bacon, sausage and melted cheddar cheese. The rye toast was a nice crunchy side piece to the softer main part of the platter, and the home fries were well done enough to provide both crisp and soft underbelly.
