We had a wonderful party at Novino. They were able to accommodate nearly 60 guests for my son and daughter in law's rehearsal dinner. From the very beginning, they were responsive, flexible and went above and beyond to make sure the night went off without a hitch. My DIL worked with Craig on the table arrangements in advance and even customized the menu (apps server family style, salad and choice of four entrees) that took into account many of the guest's dietary restrictions and preferences. Ordered take out last night and the food was as yummy as last time! I ordered fried calamari and penne primavera. The calamari was cooked perfect; nice crunch and not overly breaded or chewy like some places I've ordered from before. The pasta was delicious; cooked aldente and the veggies were sautéed beforehand giving them an almost sweet taste which completely the oil and garlic very well. read more

Tried this new place, service was clumsy dropping 3 things in the dining room during my visit. Although food was good, meatballs are great, a bit pricey. I will try it again in a few months after they worked out the kinks. The one thing I noticed right away is that they had a table set up blocking the emergency exit. I mentioned it to the wait staff. Delicious food. Highly recommend their eggplant rollatini. I haven't sat down here yet but last summer we needed last minute catering for my bridal shower and they were able to accommodate and people raved about the food. Pizza. Wonderfully crisp pizza. Tart sauce, creamy cheese, excellent toppings. Everything I WANT in a pie. Pizza is subjective. For me however, this was delightful. I would love to try more dishes besides pizza, but haven't had the time yet. The pizza is top notch, and the staff is wonderful. Always fresh, and made with care! I've never actually dined in at Novino, but have been getting take out for a few years. They have a separate take out menu that some people I've talked to dislike, but I totally understand that some things just do not travel well. I never liked their NY style pizza, I feel they put too much cheese on it. One might say how can you have too much cheese on a pizza? To each their own, but in my opinion it really throws off the dough, sauce and cheese ratio and leaves for a bland tasting pizza. Their Margarita pizza is actually very good, best in the area as they make it the correct way, and it seems the dough they use for it is different from the NY style pizza. What many people seem to talk about is the thin Sicilian pizza. They really do a good job with it, not too much sauce or cheese and they also cook it so it has that bit of burnt cheese on the edges that really makes it. Overall I do recommend Novino takeout, and I will make a separate view once I dine in with them one of these days. read more

Picked up takeout on NYE 2020. We bid good riddance to this dumpster fire of a year by getting chicken parm, eggplant parm, and Brussels sprouts. Everything was hot and had good flavor. The chicken was on the thicker side and could have been more tender. Eggplant and sprouts were very food. Easy parking in lot behind the building. Prices directly from restaurant cheaper than yelps prices which is disappointing. read more

Mahwah owned and operated. Opened one Christmas Day to feed firemen responding to a fire. Everything on the menu is excellent. The owners come into the dining area to check on the customers. The short rib is amazing and a family favorite for us. There's really nothing more to add; worth a visit. read more

Two recent visits to Novino have been great! Started the first time with a shared Caesar Salad. It was a good size and came already 'split' on two separate plates. My friend and I split two pasta dishes... Spaghetti w/ Garlic and Oil, and Gnocchi w/ Pesto. Both were good, though the Gnocchi were a bit rubbery. Novino serves excellent small loaves of warm bread with dinner. I wasn't feeling great on the second visit, so didn't care to eat too much. I ordered the pasta fagioli and roasted mixed vegetables. OUTSTANDING! The soup was absolutely delicious!!! I asked for the vegetables to be 'crisp' and they were. A mid-sized plate of broccolini, Brussels sprouts, zucchini, and carrots were drizzled with a bit of olive oil and tasted great. Despite being BYOB, Novino DOES OFFER WINE from New Jersey. I had a glass of red and it was very good. In the past I've also had pizza from Novino, and it's top notch. This is a very friendly spot. Craig, our waiter was great both times and owner George and his wife (forget her name right now) are both very hospitable. I'll go 4-1/2 - 5 Stars, based on good food, good service, and a CHOICE of BYOB or house wine. read more

Haven't had pizza since the lock in started, so I decided to order from some place new. The Chicken Cutlet Parm tasted good, but the pasta that came with it was very plain. The NY slice I ordered may have been the worst slice I've had in years. It tasted a lot like Costco pizza or food court pizza. The cheese-sauce ratio was off and the cheese they used didn't taste any good at all. It seems like it would be safer to go for their specialty pizzas, as they seem to be favorites. I definitely want to support local businesses, and maybe the other entrees might be good. I however could not try their pizza again. read more

Really pleasantly surprised to see that Novino is a great place. The staff are super friendly and the food is really great!! It's BYOB, which is nice! We had the fish in broth and the shrimp risotto. Was excited to try Novino's in Mahwah but it sadly was a disappointment. I will give it stars for atmosphere and overall layout but the food and wait staff was lackluster. I ordered the margarita pizza and homemade lemonade. I was excited to order both because I'm a fan of fresh lemonade and the picture of the pizza looked good. The dough on the pizza was too chewy and sweet, the sauce tasted sugary, and was way overpriced for the size. The "homemade" lemonade tasted like dish water and I had to send it back to the kitchen. My wife and I dined here tonight for the first time. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and seated promptly. Service was quick, friendly, and everything you would expect in a pleasant dining experience. Now to the most important thing the food. We started with the Meatballs and Green Beans with bread crumbs. Meatballs were more dense that I am used to but tasted amazing. Green beans were fresh. We had the NY style Neapolitan( half pepperoni) and a white pizza. Crust was stellar and had a great chew to it. Crust was cooked perfectly as well. Pepperoni is high quality and not typical pepperoni you usually expect. We finished our meal with the Nutella calzone and were not disappointed. We will definitely be Came back on 2/2 for takeout...NY Style pie, Calzone, and Eggplant Parm hero were all amazing. Awesome and friendly customer service. Owner thanked me by name when leaving. I was so exited to try this place and after hearing friends tell me about it, I was excited to go. It's a beautiful restaurant inside and out. It's brand new so everything is super clean - that's always a plus. However as new restaurant, they have some kinks to work out before I can give it another try. To start off, I'm not entirely sure if my waitress was having an off day or what, but I had to remind her a few times to bring 4 glasses for the water, there was 4 of us- so I'm not sure why she wouldn't assume we would all be drinking the water. Secondly, and this pissed me off the MOST!! Is after waiting a bit for our appetizers, which is fine- we understand things are made fresh (that's a plus) we were not even 5 mins into our appetizers and our diners were being brought out. Why the rush?? I asked our waitress (Geri Or Jerry) if she could wait until we were done with our appetizers before she brings out dinners out and she kind of seemed annoyed by that comment, but nevertheless she did bring them back to the kitchen. So this isn't the fault of our waitress but more so by the kitchen staff - please time things accordingly. Lastly, our meals were all very salty and my friends that recommended me the place had mentioned that their meals were a bit salty too so clearly that's something your kitchen staff should look into. Great looking place from outside. Cold and sterile feel inside. Staff very nice and courteous. I so wanted another great option for Italian and pizza but unfortunately it is not. Pizza looked great but sauce flavorless and crust doughy. Pasta bolognese for $22 should have amazing fresh meat sauce and homemade pasta! Unfortunately I don't think it had either. With great options like Roxannes, Nonna's and Marcello's within a few minutes - this place will need to step up it's game, especially at these prices. This place just opened up during the last several months. The restaurant looks brand new and the staff is nice. The food is good or average. We had entrees and pizza. The staff is nice but there was a staffing issue on one of the two nights we were there. There only appeared to be one waitress working the last time we were there. The restaurant is split into two rooms with a wall between the rooms (and an open area at the end). If you are sitting to either side of the wall, the staff can't see you if they are on the other side. That creates a problem if you are looking for a check. It took me 10 minutes to before I saw the waitress back on our side of the wall. The other issue we had was not related to the staff but rather the customers. Both times we were there customers at other tables decided to make FaceTime calls. It is obnoxious! The acoustics aren't that great to begin with and you can hear the whole conversation. read more

Had some chicken parm delivered during a recent stay in the area. Food was adequate. Portion was large. Very large. It arrived in a timely manner. But there was very little breading on the chicken, and not very tasty, but not bad either. It arrived hot. I also ordered mozzarella sticks were still pretty melty when I got them. Biggest issue was the delivery person wouldn't bring the food to my room at the hotel. Said he wasn't allowed by both the restaurant and the hotel. There is no good reason for this. I have no clue why a restaurant would want to annoy their customers with such an idiotic rule. And the hotel can be walked right into at any time, so security there isn't any kind of an excuse. read more

We flew all the way from Hawaii to explore the Mawah area. The reviews were right! The staff is so incredibly friendly and the food was beyond excellent. The pizza is one of the best we have ever had and highly recommend I'd you like that wood burning oven taste. The dinning area is small and yet very cozy and inviting. Ordered from Novino for the first time following a recommendation from a friend, who spoke highly of this Mahwah eatery. We sampled the Meatballs appetizer, the charred broccolini, and 2 of their wood-fired pies: Novino and Parma. Starting with the good - the broccolini was a great side, the Novino pie was solid, and the red sauce that accompanied the meatballs was above average for this restaurant's price point. The meatballs seemed to include sweet sausage in the mixture, and that, coupled with them being slightly undercooked disrupted the texture. The Parma pie was disappointing - prosciutto is my favorite cured Italian meat, but that which topped the Parma pie was forgettable and sliced too thickly. Definitely open to giving Novino another try, but will be choosing other menu items. read more
