The boy and I were deciding where to go for lunch and I always crave Thai so when he asked for some options, Chiang Mai was one of the options and I said you know what? just surprise me, drive wherever. We ended up going to Chang Mai. I'm very happy we did! It's a small, clean, very cutely decorated Thai place, and the hostess was our server as well. She was very good at her job: very sweet, always with a perfect smile. The only downside, that's for me, is there's no alcohol. But at the same time you know sometimes a Diet soda goes great with everything. I had the Pad Se Ew, and it was delicious! The boy had the I can't remember what it's called, but it has the fried (in a circle) noodles kind of like a curry stew and he got the roasted pork and he loved it. We also got the garlic chicken wings, which were absolutely delicious, not gonna lie about that. The only problem is they are expensive so next time we go, I will try another appetizer even though they were delicious, they were just a little out of my budget. I didn't use the bathroom so I can't comment on that but they do have street parking and I don't know if they have a parking lot in the back of the business. And now it is definitely in my top three Thai places around me and that makes me so happy. So happy I found another one that's even closer than the others. read more

Ordered delivery and it was good, but I wasn't as impressed as I have been in the past. We ordered a Thai beef salad, Pad Thai with shrimp and chicken, and the sweet sriracha chicken wings. To start with the salad, I liked the fresh mint and the flavor of the dressing. But for $15, it was mostly greens, and hardly any beef. What beef was there, was flavorful but it really felt like an unfair amount of meat for the price. The wings had a nice crunch and weren't spicy at all. The wings were a good size, tender and juicy, but I would have liked to have had more sauce. The shrimp in the pad thai was delicious, but there was hardly any chicken. The pad thai was a little on the sweet side, but overall lacked flavor. The pad Thai arrived quickly, but only tasted sweet and not savory. They don't have vegan fish sauce. They don't have mushroom sauce so the waitress suggested hot sauce which I added so now it tastes, hot and sweet. Pad Thai is a much more savory sweet dish. I was pleased with Chiang Mai because it's not your regular Thai restaurant. They specialize in Northern Thai cuisine and you will have a different experience here compared to most other Thai restaurants. I got the Khao Soi drumstick soup meal and it was very good. For appetizers we got the chicken wings that were tasty as well. The person I went with got the Pad see ew which was pretty good/standard. I was surprised at how empty it was during the lunch hour when we went. We were the only ones in the restaurant for most of the time we ate. It's a nice vibe in the restaurant and it really makes you feel like you're in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The people that have visited Thailand will understand. It's a small little restaurant at the corner of Burbank Blvd with a small parking lot in the back. They have one side of the place with sofa and tables and then the other end with tables and chairs. Very cute decor inside. We arrived around 7pm and only one other party was there and finishing up so we were seated immediately. The waitress gave us menus and took our drink order. 1. Crab Fried Rice- hubs really liked this one! The egg on top was amazing and deliciously cooked! Flavor overall was on point and everything blended well together. 2. Pad See Ew Beef- not anything different than any other pad see ew but well flavored. Not too salty or anything. Good portion of beef to noodles. 3. Pad Thai chicken - I really liked this one! Not too peanut buttery and noodles were nice and chewy, just the way I like it. I'm not a fan of green onions so I was glad there was only a spec inside and I didn't have to remove them. Lovely flavor and well cooked! 4. Ton yum soup (medium spice) - spice level wasn't too spicy, however did have a kick! Love the amount of veggies inside and it was the perfect size for a small that paired well with our other dishes. 5. Sticky rice mango- this one was delicious! Love that they have the coconut sauce inside the rice already so it's nice and flavorful. They even put fresh strawberries with the mangoes with was so odd but love the extra contrast! All we wanted was Pad See Ew and one of their noodle soups... only two of us were eating. When I walked in, the server looked at me as she held a plate and gave me the finger of wait, as she looked at the clock and served a table, she then went to the kitchen lady and then came back said because of the time we are only doing take out. I started to explain to her that we are on the way home and live 5 hours away, we have no where to eat. She said well some items are sold out... without even asking what we wanted. We explained AGAIN, and she huffed and went to the kitchen lady and they agreed to have us and she said, oh you can sit and order but a lot is sold out. I've worked in the industry before, last calls are about 15-20 minutes before closing latest, it had not hit 9:30, the open sign was still on and people were coming in to order for pick up. The least she could have done was asked us what we wanted to see if it was available. I LOVED the food here as I am only to find some items I like here only. Small underrated Thai food establishment with enough table space to fit groups of more than 4. It is not usually crowded, most people order take out. Update with more dishes: I tried the Tom Yum soup which was pretty good. I got it with the fried tofu - besides that it had just onions (which I hate) and mushrooms so not a huge fan of this one. And I tried the Spicy Seafood dish - also a miss for me. The flavors were good but it was pretty rubbery overall. Very chewy dish! And at $16 not worth it. And I also had the Somtum Thai which was good but was a small portion - half the dish was raw cabbage. The eggplant dish I got last time and the Tom Kha soup are the way to go! I read the reviews and I have to agree that the food is really good. Definitely the star was the Sticky Mango. We had the Kao Soi drumstick, Pad Thai, House Salad, and the Sticky Mango. Everything was super delicious. We pass by this place every time we visit my mother-in-law. Today we decided to give it a try and we were not disappointed. There isn't much of an ambiance but they did have some cute decorations up with the lanterns and string lights. Can't really complain about their service either. It's a family owned business. There's an obsessive combination I come here for, and Chang Mai satisfies my craving every time. I have a relatively finicky palate. Their Coconut Shrimp and Fresh Rolls are perfection. I have passed by this place multiple times and finally made an effort to try it! The first time I was here, I ordered khao soi with crispy pork, pad kee mao, and crab fried rice. I was told to come in 30 minutes. However, it took over 50 minutes for me to get my order. I was not happy to wait for that long. The cashier was very chatty with the customer in front of me that she did not even bother to help me until 5 minutes later! The service could be a lot more efficient. In terms of food quality, I like the Khao soi ok but not with the crispy pork. I know a lot of other reviewers recommended it but I did not enjoy it as much. Pad kee mao was 4/5. Crab fried rice was 3/5. There was very little crab. When the order is more than $30, they give you a free Thai tea drink. I tried to give me another chance by ordering Khao Soi, this time with chicken drumstick. I liked it a tad better and it's actually cheaper than crispy pork. Okay, let me start this review with the fact that my boyfriend and I have been eating here for years, but due to this experience we will never go back!! Are you kidding me? Furious, we get home once again to eat and i find A HAIR IN MY NEW PAD THAI. Are you kidding me!?!? So gross!! We call again and the phones were shut off. WHAT!? So we drive back AGAIN!! The waitress, now annoyed and treating us like the problem, hands me cash FOR ONLY THAT ONE DISH and doesn't even offer to comp anything else. I love thai food and have been curious about trying out their Pad Thai and curries! We walked in on a Wednesday afternoon and it was surprisingly completely empty. We got the lunch special Shrimp pot thai their red curry and an appetizer of coconut shrimp. The portion of the shrimp was very small, only five pieces, and it was a little bit pricey. The shrimp however was very crunchy and juicy and that Dipping sauce complimented nicely with the shrimps meat. My boyfriend sent back his curry. It was very watery and lacking in flavor. They remade his free of charge and I also had to send back my pad thai to be remade because there was not enough sauce in it. I have to admit I was a little surprised at how bland the food was. I am used to pad thai being very full of flavors and spices. The kitchen employee gladly remade our food and explained to us that her mother was the chef. It's a nice looking restaurant that's very brightly lit with Thai lanterns and plants, a very calm setting. Saw this place driving down on Burbank and was curious. *Hidden gem* everyone! The food is soooo good! I ordered the crab friend rice, which was fantastic! They use real crab! Most fried rice you can taste the fish sauce they use, but they definitely don't use that much fish sauce (if they did at all). The Khao Soi. (I think that's what it's called)-- sooo delicious! Even better with the fried pork belly! I also ordered the pad see ew, not much different from other pad see ew but I like that they use Chinese broccoli vs regular broccoli. my wife & I were in search of a local thai restaurant & we discovered this gem. it's secretly tucked within a curious pocket of orthodox businesses on burbank blvd just east of coldwater. we dined on a saturday night whilst various congregants passed by headed to temple services next door. chiang mai thai kitchen itself has a lowkey & quirky charm with little thai lanterns & strings of lights hung on the ceiling. the menus are colorful & descriptive of the many thai dishes you'll find there. we started with the dumplings which were so delicious. I ordered the classic pad thai while my wife got the pad see ew. both dishes were beautifully prepared & we delighted in the flavors. to top off our excellent thai experience we finished with their famous mango sticky rice dessert. it tasted even better than it looked! forgot to mention that the prices are very good & we were happy to find parking just behind the restaurant. the only negative of our dining experience was the noisy family who decided to sit right next to us. the kids were banging their plates on the tables & the parents did nothing to stop them. it's a small dining room & the noise was unwelcome & unsettling. in spite of this experience, we will go back but hope to find much more respective diners next time! read more
