This is the first time I'm writing a review at Yelp. I had a terrible experience at Nutella Cafe tonight. I ordered one nutella crepe and one baguette that has hazelnuts and more nutella. When the plates arrived to the table, they brought the wrong order for the baguette & the nutella crepe barely had nutella and had soggy strawberries. The plates were dirty, they had stains from previous uses. Aside from the bad quality food, the service was terrible. I would NOT recommend this place at all. This place is more marketing than quality food. I can make these plates at home and they would taste better. There are other great places in Chicago that sell better quality crepes & better service (ex: Eataly) read more

Wonderful crêpés, Nutella crème brûlée and coffee. Standing room only makes great treats less enjoyable.

The wait to get in is ridiculous. I probably stood out there for an 1.5 hours. When I finally got in it's very nice, i didn't like that they don't restock the bottled water and soda. The cashier was nice. Very friendly. As I finally ordered and received my order the waitress was very nice. Really sweet and helpful the cashier and waitress both deserve 5 stars. I ordered a turkey provolone panini, with a side pasta salad, and two scoops of gelato with whip cream, hazelnuts, fruit, and drizzle of Nutella on top. The panini had too much mustard seeds I couldn't finish my sandwich, The pasta salad could've been better. It was more for "looks", and the gelato was really good. Better than anything I've had. I live in the building and had never gone here because I heard bad reviews. But my out-of-town friend insisted we go. Walked in and and the entire staff gave us a cheery hello. They gave us huge free sample scoops of the gelato (the Nutella gelato is phenomenal). We both got some variation of Nutella crepes which were both delicious. I'll be back! I love anything Nutella! After many years of wanting to visit Chicago, my boyfriend and I finally decided to go. Not knowing there was a Nutella Cafe in town, I was excited to come across it. We stopped in around 5:30pm on a Friday. It was a tad busy but nothing to crazy. We ordered our food and luckily found a two person table. They brought us our food in reasonable time. We shared a banana Nutella crepe. It was similar to a crepe I had had in Amsterdam. My only dislike of the place is the sitting arrangements and the organization. People grab chairs from other tables making half the tables unavailable. I also noticed people saving chairs and tables for people that hadn't arrived yet. The lines were blocking a lot as well. Overall, if you love Nutella as much as I do, you'll love it! read more

My experience in Nutella Cafe was pathetic. Given the lines which snake around the block on Michigan Avenue I had high expectations. However the place is an unimaginative rip off. They have the standard fare like croissant and baguettes with some Nutella added to justify the cafe name!!! And the prices, given the quality, are waaay too high!! Only thing which helps the spot is the location which is bang on Magnificent Mile! Will give this place a skip next time. read more

A solid meh. Croissants have a single blob of Nutella injected in without any flavor for the ends. Everything else with the Nutella ends up too sweet or conflicting with the flavors (eg berries). Also they need two lines, one for baked goods pickup and another for entrees. Cool interior, nice work on the Nutella drizzle wood paneling on the roof, but not really worth the wait. Stay home, spread some Nutella on toast, and enjoy it as it was meant to be eaten. read more

Was not pleased at all with the flaky croissant or the banana Nutella crepes!!!! They hardly put any Nutella in them like they show you behind the counter. They are very cheap with with adding chocolate/ Nutella in their items. I had to go back and ask for more Nutella each time. I definitely won't be back!!! My friend & her family are visiting chicago and we ran into a nutella factory. We have all had Nutella on a sandwich or with pretzels from the local grocery store or target, but never experienced anything like this! It was truly good. What really helped is that we went right before 9 O'clock which between 9-10 the line goes OUTSIDE! Really crazy. 10/10 would recommend. read more

Ugh. So hard to write this.... I am a BIG fan of the product. But this store has issues that are NEVER going away, no matter how long they stay open. I keep coming here because my 9 year old LOVES the Nutella... but, as a grown up... it's hard! It's always something... today we sat down, ordered.... And waited and waited and waited. Other people came in, ordered, got their food, ate and left.... And we waited. Finally, our server came back, asked if we had gotten our food yet (no!), then said simply "our system is weird today." After an HOUR, we got our food. An hour! For simple Nutella. They did not comp us anything. No apology - "our system is weird today." ?!?!? They did give us free Gelato with cookies while we waited (and waited), but we kind of didn't want them? How about a better explanation than "our system is weird." How about knocking ANYTHING off our bill?!! Sigh.... Still, we will be back... because of the 9 year old... but come on!! read more

Even on a weekday afternoon, this place was packed! The apple crostata was a refreshing treat. Foolish was I, however, for deciding not to pay the extra 50 cents to get nutella on my crostata. I guess I would have thought that this being a nutella café and all, nutella would be part of my treat. read more

People seemed very nice. However product did not meet expectations. Had to order and pay for enough Nutella to cover the baguette I ordered. Not grilled, barely warmed. Not cut, nothing spread on top. Given a few squirts from a squeeze bottle with some chopped nuts thrown on top. Will not be back especially for the prices. read more

Took wayyyyyyy too long for how few people were in the restaurant and how fast they were making food. I asked them to check on my order twice and by the time I got my food, it was cold and clearly had been sitting out for a while (I got a crepe so those are best served warm). We got there at 6:34 and had a 7:10 train to catch ACROSS THE STREET and almost missed it. I ordered it to go for fear that this would be the case and ended up having to eat it on the train. Super average place- don't waste your time. I was expecting warm Nutella melting in my mouth and exploding out of the crepes. But let me tell you, it was nothing like that. The crepes were actually extremely dry and there was barely and Nutella inside! (You're better off putting Nutella on toast at home). Such a disappointment! The wait was a little long and they need more seating. I had the "panzanella" fruit salad and it was tasty. There was hardly any Nutella on my mom's buttermilk pancakes. I enjoyed my latte and they had some cute merchandise for sale like a personalized jar of Nutella or mugs. Not only was the food magnificent (the Nutella crepe was phenomenal, as was our coffee!) but I was also privileged to witness a remarkable act of kindness as the manager--a Hispanic man wearing a black shirt working on Thursday, July 4th when I was there around 4:30--saw a homeless man sitting outside the property, but instead of forcibly asking him to leave, the manager provided him a bag of food. Acts of kindness never go unnoticed, and I'm thankful to report on this one. Excellent snack foods and a wonderful staff make for an excellent environment. read more

Their service is pretty terrible. They have to some how differentiate between orders that must be prepared vs things than can be pulled out of a display case and handed to you. They all go into the same queue, and I wound up waiting 10+ minutes for an item that they literally had to drop in a bag because it was waiting behind lots of prepared items. And when I got the fresh fruit brown butter cake, I had a couple bites and then threw it away because it wasn't very good. This place is banking on people dropping by because of the brand name, but unfortunately it provided nothing that I would want to return for. read more

I went yesterday for a "goodbye breakfast" with my gf as we had spent a few days visiting my family, and we had a great experience. Service was unbelievably good. They were very polite and even when my gf mistakenly ordered hot brewed coffee instead of cold they gave us a cold one for free. We also had a crepe with nutella, strawberries and whipped cream and the gourmet espresso, both delicious. Boccato di cardinale... Completely recommended!!!! read more

The place had a horrible line in the rain due to it being packed. The lack of seating is probably the most frustrating. They could have done a better job with the layout and seating. We stood and ate till some side seats by the window became available. As for the food and the hot chocolate......... I enjoyed it! Delicious! Fresh (fruit and pastry).....made the wealthy bearable! Such a nice, clean establishment! The staff are super friendly and the menu is very diverse. Oh, all the nutella possibilities! I stopped in here for lunch a couple of days ago. My panini (speck and gruyere) was almost inedible. The speck was so full of gristle, I couldn't even chew it. Avoid this place at all cost: Nutella is delicious and everyone loves it. This restaurant has anything and everything that you could make at home but less tasty, time wasted and frustration assured. The building looks fun but your experience starts with a long line that doesn't move because even though there is 50 people waiting there is only one person at a register that keeps breaking. You are waiting in line while listening to broken music that skips and jurks. The most annoying thing but doesn't seem to bother anyone. Like I said the menu doesn't come out of the ordinary and most of this stuff you can make at home unless you are not made for the kitchen and don't have Nutella at your grocery store. We ordered the bacon, gruyère starta, the Nutella cookie sandwich, side of fruit and a banana Nutella crepe. - The starta: was better than I thought although not better than cafeteria food and oddly spicy (beware is sensitive) - the crepe was what you expect if you made these at home but less banana (only 4 slices inside and 4 outside) - the cookie sandwich was just sugar cookies with a little dip of chocolate. - the fresh fruit is like what you get in the airplane but a good size THE SEATING is a DESASTRE !!!! Once you survived the agony of waiting you can't even find seating. There is a big community table a few 2 people seating, upstairs is like a skeezed lounge and few tiny tables, Go the the widow bar and you will find a huge allie and 4 stools !?!?!? what's up with that. There is also the manager on the counter spread out with his laptop that is over looking the mess and chaos but doesn't seem bothered, doesn't look like he's working he's just looking out with a blank stair. I hope the owner is looking at this because this is the biggest issue. You got a great team of workers that are running around doing what they can to help out with strollers, cleansing, and doing it all with a smile. The. You got a lazy manager just not doing anything to soften the edges. I mean, I've been a manager back in my day and I would always help around if I wasn't doing anything that demanded attention. I would also be attentive to details like the problem with the music or the seats missing or greeting and just overall fluidity of the restaurant. My mother gave me my first Nutella and it has been love ever since. I was so excited about the Nutella Café that I got in line at 5:00 am this morning. To my surprise I was even first in line. However, I was bitterly disappointed that I wasn't able to order anything after waiting for 5 hours for them to open. Being given a small croissant and a jar of Nutella is not the way customers and Nutella fans should be treated. Your event stated "Bring your friends, bring your family, but most of all, bring your appetite." Why, you wouldn't let me order or buy anything. VERY disappointed! read more

I should've trusted my gut and not have lined up during the opening day of this store. It was absolutely not worth it--I'm not even one to talk since I (thankfully) got in line only at 9am and was probably in the 200's in terms of place. - The way the tote bags were being handed out by the 2 staff members was incredibly arbitrary. One moment they were trivia-based rewards, the next they were being handed out freely. - I was glad to have at least been compensated with a relatively large jar of Nutella, but the croissant was not worth it. We were apparently also not allowed to order off the menu, which was a bummer. I'd gone to this event expecting free crepes or something of the like due to the pictures used on the FB event.
