I've never had a Chop Cheese before so I was curious and ended up at this restaurant. It's right in the midst of retro row in Long Beach. I ordered the 6in Chop Cheese which was a decent size sandwich. Loved all the flavors - it was a solid sandwich. I didn't like the fries, not crispy enough for me. Should have got the curly fries. This was one of those places I was cool with trying once for the experience but don't need to go again. Everyone working was really nice. Worth a try though! read more

I have frequented the east coast for work, play and as a long time resident. As a native Californian I love the variety of eateries, dives and diners and the wide variety of the world's cuisine we have at our fingertips at a moments notice. So when I stumbled on this gym just a block off the famous "retro row" off Fourth Ave I was intrigued. I was greeted with a smile, color and good service by a lone cashier doubling as a prep and resident chef who immediately suggested the chopped cheese combo! It was quick, clean and an an "at your service any hungry able bodied human can appreciate? The sandwich had a fresh roll the meet and copped cheese combo at twelve inches might be to heavy for a person with a small stomach but I stacked this "sammich" with the intention of savoring the last half for a sit down at home while I take in the quarter finals of the l"US OPEN. And that in itself was worth the visit parking is available on a very transit heavy Cherry Avenue, and also accessible on 4th avenue with seating both in and outside! The meal was good enough to beat the regular run of the meal pizza, and other hot finger foods in and around local scene! That's a good enough draw to get me to come back. Make sure to. Get the family, your work buds and friend out before you hit the tow or just dropping and grab a combo - it's a New York staple right here under your Long Beach nose ! Try it !!! read more

Honestly first time I had chop cheese. It was delicious. The place had a few flies in the store but beyond that it looked clean. I think I would've preferred a crispier bread but still very solid. read more

Came here with coworkers for a quick lunch and loved it. It's a small shop off 4th with street parking. We all ordered the 6in Chopped cheese combo (+$5 for fries and a drink) it came out quick, was super fresh, and nicely packed so it wasn't messy to eat. I got mine with jalapeños and avocado which elevated the chopped cheese even more. It came with a lot of fries, so the whole meal was hearty and I felt satisfied after. One of the workers added another table to our booth so we'd have enough space and was friendly. Highly reco if you're in the area! read more

Heard about a new chopped cheese place and I came to try it once I found out they were opened. They're located in Retro Row, so it's either street parking or you can park at the paid lot across the street. It was pretty nice inside, I really liked the Times Square wallpaper they have on their wall. I just ordered the nyc chop cheese and it was pretty good. I never tried it in New York so I don't have anything to compare it to but I would get it again. read more

Masha'Allah, this chop cheese sandwich was incredible -- perfectly seasoned, fresh, and packed with flavor!! Ive never had a chopped cheese sandwich before but this was amazing! Fantastic customer service, friendly and joking, brought our fresh sandwich which were larger than we were expecting and full of flavor. The homemade sauce was delicious too. Shawntail greeted us and was so sweet and welcoming. I had my dog with me and she let us know right away that they were a dog-friendly establishment This was our 1st visit but definitely not our last! We ordered the chopped cheese and shared an order of curly fries. BOMB! so flavorful, their house cilantro sauce had a fresh taste that complimented the fries and chopped cheese very well. I'm big on community and customer service my husband and I were working late decided to take a break they said they closed at 2am we got there at 1:45 the door was locked and two employees were sitting down eating, however my husband asked come on can we just get some fries or try something lol they just sat there and finished eating. I loved the whole experience, the lady was very nice and informative and giving.. she offered me a water cup which was perfect for this warm day, the food was good, the only thing I'd change is the bread, it felt like it was microwaved if you understand the the texture. A new NY sandwich joint has joined retro row. Breakfast is served all day which fills a gap in this area. Staff were very friendly. There's some indoor and outdoor seating if you want to eat in. I tried the Philly cheesesteak which came with onions, peppers, lettuce, and tomato. I'd order it without the lettuce & tomato next time but it was good. Got here at 905am on a Sunday. Hours said they open at 8am. Waited around for a while looking on yelp for somewhere else in the neighborhood to go to since my original plan didn't work out, started to drive away at 930am and saw the guy opening the doors, so I ask him how long till they're ready to go. He tells me 10-15 minutes, so I waited since I had been craving a chop cheese ever since I heard of this place. Having lived in NYC for a few years, that was one of my favorites to order at the bodegas, and so far I'd never found a spot out here in Cali that had chopped cheese. Anyways, after ordering and waiting 25 minutes, I get home (2 minute drive) with the sandwiches and take a bite. The meat was overcooked and crunchy, the meat and cheese were unevenly distributed on the bread, the cheese had hardened, and the bread was rubbery. I paid $28 for 2 of the 10" sandwiches (chopped cheese/turkey). The sandwich was big, but i still felt it was way overpriced for the quality and taste of what I received. I won't be back. read more

Warm day but it was nice and cool inside. The 10" chop cheese was a large meal and was extremely delicious. They provided 3 sauces with it, but I didn't use any of them; the flavor was perfect with the cheese melt into the ground beef and the perfect proportioned veg. The roll it's in is also really good, which is key to soaking up all the delicious flavor. I can't believe it took me so long to try this place. I will definitely be back to try more of the menu because the first visit was spectacular. read more

Sooo excited this place is finally open (well, soft-open). They officially open on 4/20. I love the NYC art on the walls. The staff I met were all super cool too. Best part (besides the food) are their hours. Living in the area, most places close early, they stay open until midnight with hopes of eventually staying open even later. Oh, and they open at 8:00am and serve breakfast (all...day...long!). Going to be coming here a lot. Hail to the chopped cheese! read more

Definitely have to try this place. We ordered the #1 classic NY Chop Cheese sandwich and it was really really good. First time ever trying this type of sandwich, I am used to the Philly Cheesesteak type, but I can see why this is so popular in NY. The fry's and curly fries were great too, I am looking forward to trying the onion rings and jalapeño poppers next. I just ate it two days ago and I have been craving it since I woke up this morning. Will most likely go back there tonight for another one. I want to try one of their other sandwiches but the classic #1 was soo good I'm afraid to miss out. read more

NYC Chop Cheese gave that nyc experience I wish to have. I still have yet to go so this is the closest thing to that. I got the chopped cheese and the flavor on that ground beef is immaculate. Not too salty and is good with the veggies and mayo that comes with it on a soft roll. They are up there in price I think coming out to somewhere between 17-20 bucks for a sandwich but it's pretty big and filling. I need to come back to try more of their menu. All in all...I love the chopped cheese vibe in the LBC!! I had banana peppers and pepperjack cheese added to my sandwich for a little bit more spice and it did not disappoint. If you have not had the #1 split with a best friend, then you are seriously missing out on one of life's best offerings. My husband and I just visited NYC chop cheese where Chantel helped us. She was so kind and was so friendly to everyone who entered. We will definitely be visiting again because of the excellent food and amazing company.
