Iconic pub. Very old school vibe. No frills, very casual. Not a huge menu, but if you want some typical pub grub , you've come to the right place. Their beef sandwich is a bit upscale and generous and hearty. Bar open and welcoming greeting.

Came in with a group of 7 on Friday night and got seated right away despite the relatively crowded place. Service was fast. Food comes out on paper plates. My friends really enjoyed the Guiness. Some in my group were not as impressed by the burgers, but I really enjoyed my cheeseburger, a thick patty cooked perfectly to medium. Fries were thin (my favorite kind). The gooey butter cookie was very good and pillowy soft (although it is so soft, it breaks apart when you pick it up). The cheesecake was nothing to write home about.

I love O'Connell's Pub. It's a St. Louis institution! The people who work here are dedicated and work their butts off! They are very attentive. They are kind. The food is pub food. Great burgers, salads, roast beef and the onion rings are fabulous. Great selection of beer and cocktails. It's dark and very cool inside. Lots of artwork and very much like an Irish pub. Get in here and support this important part of St. Louis history! Cheers!!

Our waitress was 10/10 amazing. She treated us super well on my dad's birthday and made us feel really special with her kindness. Also unbeatable Irish car bombs Ty ty Oconnells!

If you're looking for an unpretentious, affordable pub with a welcoming ambiance, this place is a great choice. Tucked conveniently near the Botanical Gardens, this pub is an ideal choice for a quick bite or a casual hangout. The charm of this spot lies in its simplicity and affordability. Despite the small food menu, the prices are reasonable, making it a great place for a budget-friendly meal. The interior exudes a cozy, laid-back vibe, with blinds perpetually drawn and dim lighting creating an intimate atmosphere. The wooden furniture, including the booths, adds to the pub's warm, rustic character. It's the kind of place where you can unwind comfortably, whether you're grabbing a bite before or after a stroll through the gardens. Fried Mushrooms $6 - Crispy breading, bella mushrooms. Burger $10 - Thick juicy patty, served with onion and lettuce and a slide of pickle. French fries $3 - Crispy, thin and delicious, you'll want double orders. Tried in the past: Chili cup $4 - Hearty chili with optional fresh cut onion and $1 extra for cheese. Fazio's Cheesecake - $4 - Fluffy and creamy slice of dessert. .|\---/| | @_@ | ..\_^_/..2024

Great pint of Guinness. Love the dark lit look of the bar. Very old school. The chandelier in the center is the star.

Cheeseburger, the pictures don't do it justice, this thing was thick!

First time visit and wasn't disappointed! I had a burger, super thick, cooked perfectly, amazing! The smell was amazing!!! As soon as I got out of the car I knew what I was in for :) The staff was great, no pressure and we went during lunch time. I don't really have any questions, but felt welcome enough that I feel our server would have taken the time to help with whatever we needed. Didn't have to ask for a refill, just showed up :) I had fries as well. They were perfect, they are the skinnier ones that always seem to be overcooked at lots of places...not here. Yes it's dark, but I liked it! There's enough light, no issues there. Plus like was stated on past reviews, I have a cell phone, if I need more light I can fire that up no issues. Unfortunately the pictures probably aren't going to do this one justice. Thanks for the great meal, excited to go back :)

British Bar INSIDE a "British designed hotel", so I had my hopes probably heightened more that it should have with my previous British bar results. I went in thinking British craziness and got a "Edgar Allen Poe" feel... But I'm going to say this was NOT what I was expecting. First and foremost, your eyes are going to need adjusting. Plain and simple, it felt more like a dark ... room? (Part of the problem I think is that as it was already June, you can forget using the fireplace to lighten the room up) so it felt.. "Small", and I"m going to feel weird saying this... "Romantic Horrorfest". Wait, before you go "wha??", this isnt' necessarily a bad thing. The Taxidermy , the photos on the wall. the fireplace. the VERY (and I mean VERY) dim lighting... The limited seating on the main floor, the one door in and out it had a "wooden cabin feel".. Yes, if you had a wonderful romantic film and it was suddenly invaded by some monster villain... This where it would take place and it would be perfect. (See I can find positive things to say about things i wasn't looking for) As for the service, apparently (going back to the Romantic filmfest), I was struggling to get any attention for the bartendress, cause I guess I was solo'ing by myself, and because of how I wasn't able to get the bartendress attention... I kinda felt like an unwanted customer in a place more for couples or friends getting together which had me leaving shortly thereafter, so no real food score (although I will say, much like Oh London ,the menu wasn't really much to work through...), Anyway, no TV's, no world cup game on the air.. just like I said a vibe of a cabin in a "romantic movie, where the monsters lurk". And Apologies for some of the iffy pictures, it just didn't feel right using a flash on the camera in such a secluded locale) and like I said, it wasnt' what I was expecting (rowdy British fans watching the local club or something), but there's something about it that even i have to admit, would make this location a nice "date night" or "out with friends' location, more so than just a single person looking for a nightcap. (And Maybe there really is a monster hiding in the fireplace, to keep the "Horror" feel going?? :)

We were seated with our wonderful server, Nina (I believe). She was friendly, chatty, and very knowledgeable about the menu and restaurant itself. It had a little heat, but it wasn't overwhelming. My dad unfortunately had a mix-up with his drink, but once we let Nina know, she happily made him the right one. It was also delicious! For food, we had the chicken wings, which were incredible!!!! They're crispy, spicy, delicious, and they will absolutely be devoured again someday soon. We also had a house side salad and split the hot dog. The hot dog deserves an entire post of its own. Holy smokes. I was honestly surprised at how busy it was when we arrived at 4pm on a Thursday. I wasn't expecting that kind of crowd, but thankfully I had made a reservation, so we were able to get seated right away. As much as I would've loved to sit on the patio, it didn't look like anything was available, although if you can snag a patio table, I'd definitely recommend it. Inside was packed, with quite a few larger groups as well. Our table was right in the middle of the restaurant, so we had a good view of everything going on. It was loud, but in a fun, lively way. Our server was really friendly and quick. She checked in on us often and gave some helpful recommendations. We ordered drinks and a couple of apps to share, and she left us a full bottle of cold water, which was such a nice touch. We got the pretzel monkey bread, french fries (the best) and the artichoke bean dip. We weren't planning to stay for dinner, just wanted some snacks. The food came out fast and honestly looked too good to wait on. I loved the monkey bread, the pretzel bites had a great crisp to them, and the sauces they served with it were really good. The bean dip was good too, just not as much my thing since I'm not a big fan of dill, so I left most of that for everyone else. Once we wrapped up, we were able to split the check and head out pretty quickly. I really appreciate places that still make it easy to split checks, and even more when you can just pay right at the table with those handheld POS devices.

You could see this place being lit on St. Patrick's Day…read more It's a deceptively large space, perhaps owing to it being situated on a street that's more along the lines of an alley, along with a few government and industrial buildings. It already smells vaguely of mop water, so it wouldn't be an issue if someone barfed. This place pours a good Guinness draft. Not that I'm an expert. The last few times I had it, it was in the weird cans with the dispenser thing inside of them, years ago. Probably decades ago. But I appreciate the fact that it's served kinda warm, and without too much of a head, meaning you get more beer for your $10, or whatever they're charging you. The food isn't half-bad either. All the photos on Yelp make it look gross, like maybe they were taken in low light, or a long time ago. Possibly both. It was all lit up when I was there, at maybe 8 PM on a Wednesday evening. Does this place turn into some sort of nightlife destination for local boomers? I might drive by this evening and see if I see a bunch of golf carts parked out front. You can't go wrong with a burger in a place like this, so that was the plan. They offer something called the Pub Burger, which comes on an English muffin. It's hard to imagine how that could be a good idea, but I briefly considered it anyway, for the sake of citizen food journalism. The problem is, I would have had to eat it. There was also something called the Llywelyn, served on toasted brioche, which is what I probably should have gotten. I got something called the Diner, which was fine. As its name suggests, it's a bog standard double cheeseburger, like something you might get in, erm, a diner. It was good but not great, but I've been spoiled when it comes to burgers lately, having hit Hi Pointe, Shake Shack and Salt & Smoke all within the past few weeks. The ingredients were really good, including the vegetable toppings, which were fresh and expertly sliced. I especially liked the razor-thin onion slices. The thing that would have really elevated it is if the burger patties had a little char to them. The fish and chips looked good, and I appreciate the fact that they already had malt vinegar out on the table, as if it's a standard condiment. I might have to try that, if I return. I don't know how often I'd eat here otherwise, but a group I belong to meets here on occasion, so that's not outside the realm of possibility.

They were out of a few things, and I think they were out of buns so they used what looked equivalent to hot dog buns. Tbh bread is bread, it was fine, just different. The burgers themselves were cooked well and the fries were delish. I'll always corn back.

The only real warmth we encountered came from the female host; the rest of the staff delivered service that hovered somewhere between disinterested and "we're doing you a favor by being here." We kicked things off with the fried deviled eggs, which arrived neither fried nor particularly deviled -- just cold little reminders that hope is fleeting. Cocktails landed squarely in "General Public" territory. My Squatty Potty showed up lukewarm, like it had been loitering at the bar contemplating its life choices instead of making it to the table piping hot. A chicken Caesar salad was perfectly fine... if you enjoy playing hide-and-seek with the chicken. The breakfast burger came on an English muffin with what might be the most emotionally unavailable portion of hash brown casserole I've ever seen -- tiny, distant, and gone too soon. Then there's the Scream Burger. Marketed as ghost-pepper spicy, priced like it's the main event, and delivered with all the heat of a polite Midwestern handshake. This was our annual Valentine dinner with friends. Usually around 12 to 18 of us and this time it…read morewas 16. Since we had a large group we called and were able to secure a reservation. We all arrived fairly close together, so we just started filling in seats as we arrived. The had us at the back of the restaurant at a banquet seat with tables and additional seats on the outside. It was a little tight, but we worked it out. The hostess was nice when welcoming us in and getting us going. Our server was Tera, she had our large group plus other tables, so she was doing her best to coordinate. We shared menu's, they had regular menus and special menus for Valentines Day. Tara was great with keeping track of the couples when ordering. I ordered the Butcher Board as an appetizer to share with others. Everyone really enjoyed it, especially the toasted bread. The salami, sausage and Braunschweiger. There was a buffalo chicken terrine that was different but good. Grain mustard aioli and house made pickles rounded out the board. I also ordered a cherry margarita as my first of two drinks. The second one was a Hugo Spritz. Both were ok, not great. I ordered the Tenderloin from the Valentine menu. It came with fingerling potatoes and green beans with a sauce. It was delicious! The beef so tender and flavorful. The meal was superb. To go packaging was great and came in a brown bag with handles that makes it easy to carry. We had a great time, great food and service.

On Friday we went to The Block in Webster Groves the first time. We arrived around 7:00 pm and the…read morerestaurant was busy. There was a 20-30 minute wait so we found seats at the bar and ordered cocktails. Very good. Very strong. The Block is a great space. Tall ceilings, warm & inviting, perhaps a little low lighting for us challenged folks, but nice, easy to read menus made up for it. A busser brought us water and shortly behind him was Laura-Beth, (our server) with a big smile and menus. After explaining the menu, specials, and taking our drink orders she left us to think about our choices. The menu is a little limited but includes sandwiches as well as entrees including fish option.. Being a "butcher" restaurant we both opted for the ribeye, medium rare. The steak comes only with fries which I ordered while my date went for whipped potatoes. I also went for a side of spinach. We also split a Block Salad as a starter. Choosing to split the Block Salad was a good idea. It was more than enough for two. It was great version of a chopped salad with fresh greens, bacon, smoked ham, egg, house-smoked cheddar, tomatoes, red onion, dressed with just enough buttermilk dressing. Really enjoyed it and just the right amount of salad. Only criticism is not salt and pepper on the table. Probably by design but disappointing. Next came our steaks and sides. We both ordered medium-rare. Her steak was a little under but close enough. My steak was raw in the center. I should have said something but there wasn't so much it was inedible for me. Better under than over! The seasoned fries were good and the whipped potatoes very good were delicious. The fresh spinach was cooked perfect, but under seasoned. All in all, good sides. We finished with Irish Coffee and vanilla ice cream. Kudos to the staff A special thank you to our server Laura-Beth. You were spot on friendly, courteous, attentive, and made our evening great and not just good. Overall, a good place, A bit expensive but where isn't these days. Well worth a try if you haven't.
