I'm so happy that my friend group suggested we go here. It was my first time but definitely not my last. Staff was absolutely excellent, knowledgeable about the food and culture and taught the group new things! The food was incredible. Not a single ounce of food was left on the table for good reason. Incredible downtown place for true sushi lovers. Definitely high end style of sushi. The ambiance is trendy and cool but still feels laid back, great for a date night or girls night. We have visited a few times and the sushi is always so fresh. We especially love the falls roll, the GOAT, and a side of their fresh wasabi. Most recently we tried the hamachi carpaccio and Salmon appetizers which were really unique and flavorful. The Ricotta donuts dessert are the perfect ending - SO light and fluffy!!! O-Ku is a neat space. I would not say it's one of a kind but different than most places in Greenville. I brought my sister here for her birthday and we really enjoyed the food. We ordered Edamame and three rolls: the falls, the Greenville, and tuna crunch. The Falls was sooo good. I also ordered a piece of nigiri and it was worth the price. Our server started out strong. He educated us on the menu and some drinks. He was personable but as soon as we received our food we no longer received service from him. My water cup went empty, we waited forever to receive a to go box, and we wanted to ask him some more questions about what we ordered. I was also upset that while making my reservation I was asked if we were celebrating anything and I said a birthday. I'm sure that this is not the servers fault but it was not acknowledged at all during our time. I would go back again for a second chance but if it's the same experience I would not spend that kind of money again. read more

Last night my wife and I started a bar/restaurant crawl on our own, from the west end of town, all the way to Stone Ave. The ensuing 4.5 hour experience was filled with laughs, drinks, great food and a memorable evening out. We landed at O-Ku about midway through and omg was it fantastic! We had two of their custom cocktails, I had the Shogun which was the best drink I had all night. I can't remember what Kat had but she liked it. For an appetizer we had truffle edamame, which was also excellent. Both sushi rolls we picked out were fantastic. The volcano roll was among the finest I've ever had, and the GOAT was a very unique roll that was very fun. Overall this was a top tier experience, and can't recommend this place enough. You're going to spend a little extra on an evening here, but by the end of your visit you'll see that it's worth it. 10/10 recommend read more

Started off a bit odd but got better. We didn't make a reservation because we got there at 4:30pm like a couple of old people. There were only 2 tables sat in the whole place, but the bar was mostly full. Arriving without a reservation confused the heck out of the hostess, who had resting b face. She spent five minutes trying to figure out what to do. Someone tried to help her and she got annoyed with him. Such an awkward exchange for a first experience. Then she sat us right beside one of the only two couples in the whole place. We may have well been on a double date with them. The saving grace was Austin, our server. He took such pride in his work, knew the menu and cocktails backwards and forward, and made great recommendations. I loved the cocktails he selected for me and the sushi was great, even the more experimental rolls. Austin saved our experience and we had a great time. New Asian food spot in Downtown GVL. We have been hearing good things from our friends who had them at other locations. Overall, it was good experience. The restaurant has very nice dim decor. We might go back with other friends to try other dishes or get the dessert. Food drinks and dessert 3.5/5 - comparing to other Asian/sushi restaurants in Greenville, Oku is definitely on the top. We just didn't really like what we ordered. Personally the Edamame is a bit too salty. The Akami tuna dish is slightly bland. My drinks are okay. The kakigori dessert is probably the best out of all the things we ordered. Service 5/5 - fast service and friendly staffs I recommend making reservation in advance if you are planning to come. It's truly on par with Sushi places in much larger cities The basic edamame was very good with just the right amount of light salt. I lived on Peninsula in Charleston and have eaten at many Indigo Road restaurants. This is the worst. Let me qualify my review by saying I have a severe seafood allergy so I cannot weigh in on the sushi. New friends invited us so I figured I could pick something from the diverse menu that wouldn't kill me. I got a pork chop. Yuck. Here we go. Parking in the building cost me $20 on Friday. Lots of other options elsewhere $3-5. Restaurant is just plain and ugly. Plain can be cool, but not here. Looks like a pop up on a restaurant week. Had two, $16 Old Fashioneds. Terrible. Very weak. Bring a flask and top it off. They did have great clear ice. House Pinot is below average. Horrible wine list. Mushroom appetizer was ok, probably the best part of evening except my beautiful wife and amazing new friends. Did I say Pork Chop was yuck? Good. It was a terribly chewy piece of meat, floating on huge mess of overbearing, sweet potato puréed. Hint, puréed should be a compliment not the meal. There were two or three Brussel sprouts bobbing in the sea. I ate about 1/3 and pushed it away. By the way I noticed my wife did the same with the chicken teriyaki. I didn't ask her why because I didn't want to be a complainer. Our friends eat there often and seemed to enjoy the sushi. Fortunately, with three drinks each (over 3 hours), appetizers and dinner, we got out just under $200 so that made it feel better. I'm not their target customer. Don't go there for anything other than the rolls. Everything else very disappointing. read more

This was one of the best dining experiences I've had in a while. Everything we tried on the menu was incredible and each dish was perfectly thought out. The drinks were also fantastic. The service was great as well and our server took the time to explain each dish to us and walk us through the parts of each item. The restaurant was nicely decorated and very beautiful inside. Additionally, my husband and I were there for our anniversary and the staff gave us decorations, a gift from the kitchen of yellowtail which was delicious, and even a card that everyone signed. Sushi was drowned in imitation crab and mayonnaise which they euphemistically call "Kani crab" so you think it's more sophisticated. We ordered a few rolls--paladin, rainbow, and spider roll. The spider roll had almost no meat in it. No taste truly and it is always one of my favorites to order. The tuna tasted dethawed too quick. It didn't have a smooth texture it was almost a grainy right out of freezer texture and a little chewy. We were celebrating a birthday which they knew so we were going to get dessert, but after how the first part of meal went, decided not to pursue dessert. Oh and they didn't even say a word about a birthday....very odd considering literally Texas Roadhouse will make a big deal.
