I can't believe such an incredible place exists on Long Island!! I visited here for my mothers birthday over the summer and was blown away by how incredible and authentic the food here was! We started with hot and sour soup, crispy mushrooms, Century Egg & Soft Tofu, and some of the dumplings. While everything was top notch, the egg and tofu was actually mind blowing!!!!!! The tofu and avocado and egg meshed so well together but the SAUCE was a Home run - they need to literally jar and sell this stuff!!! For mains, we got the wild pepper shrimp and the sichuan chicken with basil and I cannot emphasize enough just how much I truly enjoyed these dishes. Someone is really back in that kitchen making the food from the bottom of their heart! To add to the beauty of the food - the restaurant is absolutely stunning!! I like the decor and ambiance. I have gone three times. First time, I ordered the Mongolian beef which is listed on the menu as Beef, PEPPERS, and onions. The dish came out all onions with 4 (literally) skinny insignificant strips of peppers. I told the owner on the way out and showed him a photo. He said he would speak to the kitchen and agreed it was not made right. Second time, ordered the same dish and mentioned the issue I had the first time and asked for the proper amount of peppers.... The dish came out with MAYBE 6 skinny strips of peppers, still insignificant to the overall dish. Fast forward to New Year's Day. I guess I am a glutton for punishment. I ordered it AGAIN and emphasized the ordeal I had the first two times around. I received the peppers shown in the photo below. To the owner(s) : if the peppers are only supposed to be a splash of color and LESS than even what a garnishment would call for, then please rewrite the menu to say beef and Onions only and remove the word peppers. I think it is a smack in the face to specify adding the proper amounts of peppers that that dish is known for when ordering and get nothing in return. Add the fact that they have a bar in the front but don't have proper liquids to make drinks like a French martini because they dine have raspberry liquor or even vodka and cranberry because they don't have cranberry juice. DANGEROUS for people with seafood allergies! When we came in the waiter asked about allergies, noted the seafood allergy, and we ordered items that shouldn't have had seafood such as the pot stickers, scallion bubble pancake, and the pork soup dumplings. The first order of apps was fine but then we ordered a second pot sticker order and the child in our party, who is allergic to seafood, had an allergic reaction to the pot stickers or one of the sauces, his lips ballooning up on his birthday. We asked if anything had seafood in it and were told no, there shouldn't be any seafood in the items we ordered. And we knew we didn't order anything with seafood, but obviously something is going on in the kitchen bc we pointed out the allergic reaction and gave the child Benadryl. Later for our main course we ordered sesame chicken, fried rice with beef, lamb, Dan Dan noodles (and we were told that there was fish sauce in this) etc. When the fried rice came out, we saw shrimp and chicken instead of beef and egg! The waiter saw them placing that on our table too and grabbed it to take away before we even said anything. What is the kitchen doing?! They obviously aren't paying attention to allergies! We stayed polite in the restaurant bc the waiter was being careful. We talked to the owner about the allergies since later that night the child in our party threw up and the owner was VERY RUDE. Said something about DOH guidelines, covering himself instead of getting to the bottom of who in the kitchen isn't paying attention to allergies. As an elite member I rarely give bad reviews, but for this place it's too dangerous not to. It's a shame bc the food was phenomenal. Be careful! read more

Visited the restaurant on a week night and we were seated right away! The restaurant has plenty of seating and can sit big parties as well. First thing that caught my eye was the beautiful decor. I absolutely loved how it felt in there with the traditional chinese interior design. We ordered the braised beef brisket and shredded pork with bamboo! We definitely enjoyed the beef dish the most. It was packed with flavor and the potato were so soft. The scallions gave it a great touch as well. I want to come back and try more food. They have a great menu with many selections. Also fish tank, 10 of the 12 fish were dead at the bottom, eyes had already glazed over and everything, it was off putting to look at (and I'm sure distressful for the other fish and their crab neighbor). Can we stop doing this storage of live seafood product in Asian eateries? It's basically animal cruelty. I had a large (27 people) group meal here to celebrate friends and family visiting and O Mandarin was wonderful in helping to accommodate such a large party with excellent food and nice service. We were seated on time with several tables and large booth all set up for us, and two lovely servers helped us all evening. The decor was very modern Chinese and more comforting than a typical Chinese restaurant. I ordered for the tables and sampled their delicious Peking Duck along with an assortment of dishes across their menu. Everything was quite delicious and my guests enjoyed the food immensely. Service for this many patrons can be challenging, but our servers were on top of it all and helped make sure to provide everything we needed. Wow! So happy I finally made it here. Was brought here for a pre bday dinner by my partner and it was so lovely! We were super impressed by the whole meal (it was my first time here although he has been here several times) and I loved the scallion bubble pancake, the Chinese snow peas, and the ribs! It's hard to find menus with snow peas so I was so pleasantly surprised to see them here. They are so good!! Overall we loved everything we ordered. The O Mandarin had great ambiance! You definitely have the feels of Asia and it is very nicely decorated on the inside. Unfortunately I had higher expectations for the food. The only dish that we thought was extremely good was the tea steamed duck friend rice. We added chili oil to it to give it a little bit of heat and it was very good. The Szechuan beef tendon was interesting. I was thrown off guard because I was expecting it to be hot and warm and it's a cold dish. Also, something in it made my tongue and mouth tingly so I didn't finish it. It has tons of flavor but I didn't like the textures and I think I would have loved it warm. The crispy fried fish was good, but I have had better. I was hoping it would have been fried a little longer, so it would be crunchier because when the sweet and sour sauce is on top, it makes it very soft with no crunch. I think that add of texture for me was what was needed. The orange peel chicken was a good dish, but I added chili oil to it because it needed more of a kick, but it was one of the top dishes compared to the others. The only other thing we ordered was the mini 8 treasures and it was freshly made and very good. We definitely enjoyed the variety in the box, even though I didn't personally like them all, but the majority was very good! I was hoping the food would be a notch better, but it was just good to my standards. Nothing really elevated it above any other restaurant for me. So I'd consider O Mandarin both upscale and authentic Chinese, but trust me I'm no expert on what is and what's not authentic Chinese food, being born and raised on American Chinese take-out version. Started off on the wrong foot that the two hostesses did not greet us had very poor attitudes, and when we left, they said nothing. Very bad reflection on the restaurant. The atmosphere is still very nice, Our waitress did the best she could. Crispy oyster mushrooms seemed like they were fried on another day and time and just heated for us. Very disappointing, and flavorless. Smoked fish, appetizer, was old and flavorless and contained no smoke essence whatsoever. It was an old, dried out product. I don't know why they served it. Mouthwatering, chicken appetizer was exceptional. Chengdu Fish Soup, also exceptional. Uyghur Chicken Stew, every piece of chicken in this dish was more than 85% bone. The 15% that was left was all skin. There is no way that is the way that Dish should have left the kitchen. Our waitress said they had sold out of that dish the day before, but they managed to make it for us. It was terrible, and shameful that it would leave the kitchen like that. Had the dish included chicken, it would've been very good, the sauce was very good. We ordered pea leaves sautéed in garlic. I asked for them to be well done and cooked soft. About one minute later, they came to the table. I tasted them and they were crunchy, waitress came over two minutes later and asked me if they were cooked OK I said no. She took them back and said the kitchen said that it wouldn't be good cooked any other way. So the restaurant never got the $20 and I never got my pea leaves. Also, listening to loud rock 'n' roll music the whole time we were there was not a good thing. Like I said, when we left the two sourpuss hostesses said nothing. The beef noodles tasted very good and the soup was very comfortable. The Dongpo Pork had a good taste. It has a delicious but not greasy feeling, which is very good. The spicy chicken is suitable for bibimbap. I have many Chinese friends around me, so I have come into contact with many Chinese restaurants. 5 star from beginning to end! We arrived without reservations on a Friday night and the restaurant was crowded but the hostess was willing to squeeze us in if we were ok to sit at a table which she didn't usually did people because she determined it to be awkward. She showed us the table that was situated near the wait station and to us, it was fine. No problem! The restaurant itself was elegant and definitely looked upscale and the wait staff matched the theme. I ordered a lychee martini that came in a beautiful glass which of course made it taste that much better. We ordered the scallion pancake which came puffed up like a balloon and with a curry dipping sauce. It was unexpected but the best scallion pancake in the history of all scallion pancakes! We also had the eggplant and the thousand layer tofu, both were absolutely delicious, perfectly spicy and unique. I ate so much because the food was delicious and I regret that a tiny bit because I had no room for the interesting looking dessert. I have to admit, O Mandarin has ruined it for all of the other Chinese restaurants, I don't think I want to go anywhere else ever again! I will be back to explore the menu read more

Came here with my family in February as the store was newly open. We were excited to have another Chinese restaurant on Long Island, but the results were less than expected. The lighting is pretty dark inside the restaurant, which was pretty different from the usual Chinese restaurants where there is bright lighting. We were seated down pretty quickly as it wasn't too busy at the time and ordered a couple of dishes. First, the service is really not so good. The waiters tried their best but it seemed they were clueless about certain things besides ordering. Any concerns raised were nodded along and never heard of again. I thought the food was okay, not to die for though. They were, however, extremely oily and salty. My mother ended up dousing some of the green vegetables in water and you could see a thick film of oil come off. Not what you would expect from a pricier Chinese restaurant--more like a fast food Chinese restaurant. The other dishes were decent. (Personally, though, I don't think the food was worth the price.) The bathroom only had cold water, no hot or warm water available to wash your hands. The clanging from the kitchen could be heard clearly in the bathroom as well. My father pointed out that the table and booth we were sitting in were likely second-hand, as there were plenty of scratches on the wooden table despite the restaurant at the time only being opened quite recently. Nothing wrong with this, just something to note. The atmosphere of the restaurant seems to be aimed more toward the younger generation of Asian Americans. I would not recommend bringing your family here if they're more traditional or dislike oily, salty food. We have not gone back since and likely will never go back. There are plenty of better Chinese restaurants in the neighborhood, and Flushing is only a drive away. The restaurant may have improved since then, but this was my experience in February 2022. read more

This was our 2nd visit to celebrate my birthday. After dining her a few months ago, I definitely wanted to return for my bday meal here. The food is so good! Amazingly seasoned, crispy, chewy silky, soft where it should be. Even the desserts are phenomenal. If you love super sweet stuff, stay away from the Emperor's platter: these are so delicious and the perfect hints of sweet with the focus more on flavor and texture. Our favorites are also the Ma-la Beef Jerky, Mandarin Spare Ribs, Pekin Potsticker, Dan Dan Noodle, Beijing Zha Jiang Mein and Scallion Bubble Pancake. These are all winners didn't take pictures but we finished these off. Mains were the half duck, Sesame Chicken, Mongolian Beef and Chong Qing Chilli Chicken. Every single dish was phenomenal! They have booths and large tables that can fit a big party (like ours), with staff that were super attentive, friendly and speaks English. We ordered quite a number of items from the menu, including scallops that were $12 a piece (I know...). Not sure if the price can be justified but they were fresh and delicious. This new Chinese restaurant is a great addition to Long Island. They specialize in Szechuan cuisine, which can be tasted across various dishes through the spice, but they also have a variety of other items on their menu as well. They have a good selection of unique dishes along with more general items (broccoli with chicken) to cater to all tastes. I came with a party of 6 on President's Day so it was definitely busier, especially since word has gotten out about this new Chinese restaurant. The decor inside was great - I felt like I got transported to China - and it's actually very spacious inside. It's also fairly dim inside and since it was packed when we came, it was very loud inside. The service was okay. They were definitely understaffed that day so they were misplacing orders (at least for our table) which were corrected immediately, but it was hard to get their attention for anything. I'm glad business has been good so they'll likely be staffed better going forward. We ordered a ton of different items and shared everything family-style, the best way to eat in a Chinese restaurant so we could all try more things. The food was tasty but all heavily seasoned/sauced so definitely paired best with rice. A few items that stood out to me: - Chengdu Mouthwatering Chicken: loved this so much that we ordered two. It isn't as spicy as I would've preferred but I love the addition of sesame sauce and the crunch of peanuts. The chicken was also very tender. - Thousand Layer Tofu: I saw this pop up a lot when I browsed Yelp and was intrigued. It's supposed to have pork belly but there weren't a lot of it and it was very thinly sliced. It has a thick, almost sweet and sour, sauce coating each piece. It's good for a few bites but felt heavy after a while. Still a very unique dish that I haven't tried before. - Garlic Dry Rub Ribs: I loved this. I'm a huge fan of ribs, whether it's American or Chinese. It came with 5 large meaty pieces of ribs that was fried to a perfect crisp on the outside while coated with the yummy garlicky seasoning. The meat was tender and although not immediate fall-off-the-bone, I was still able to eat the rib clean. - Emperor Grilled Lamb: I'm a fan of cumin lamb and this a great take on the dish. It came with "crispy buns" but the buns weren't crispy, which was fine for me. It was soft and still paired well with the lamb to make a mini sandwich (buns were small and cute, fitting in the palm of a hand). The size was perfect to let you taste the dish but not stuff you so that you could still try all the other dishes on the table. - Emperor's Eight Treasures: This is a popular dessert for the restaurant. It comes in 3 sizes so we got the medium which came with 2 pieces of each item. The dessert pieces are fairly small but still great for a tasting. I particularly liked the mochi-like roll that had red bean. This review became longer than I anticipated but overall, it's a good, authentic Chinese restaurant. The prices are fairly higher but it's a whole experience when dining in, especially with the decor. Other than the items I listed, there are many more unique dishes that I'd love to try when I return. read more

We tried OMandarin for the first time on Saturday and what a delight! I'll be frank, there aren't many restaurants in Hicksville that offer a nice ambiance. Omandarin does just that, and that too with Asian food. Most Asian restaurants I've been to in LI are okay appearance wise, but this was almost like NYC meets Long Island in terms of the decor and service. I was instantly impressed. Good spot for date night & groups as well. As they wait for their liquor license, it is BYOB which is great. Our server was sweet, as was the hostess and manager. I appreciated that they all wore discreet headsets to communicate if a table was missing something - be it water, forks or napkins. For apps we ordered: Sichuan wonton & Spare ribs. The ribs were on the sweeter side but the sauce the wontons were cooked in? Literally changed my life. I literally kept that bowl of sauce for the food and I swear I could've eat that sauce alone. For dinner, we ordered: Dan Dan noodles Pork shank Thousand layer tofu Sichuan wonton (yes again) The noodles and wontons came out first and we were hoping to eat it alongside dinner but both were great. We ordered the pork shank which is a $50 dish but it can feed a family of 6 with meat to spare. The presentation is beautiful and the portion is abundant. The thousand layer tofu also had pork but was great as well. I felt like the two entrees we ordered from the chefs signature dishes tasted the same sauce wise? But still good. The pork shank doesn't sit well after a day so I'd say order it if you have a big enough party to share it with. I'm excited to go back and try the other dishes, and something the manager mentioned was that they'll be offering more specials (not on the menu) and possibly changing the menu up every couple of weeks. A true Chinese-American Private "Michelin" style fine dinning experience. I had Per Se. Masa. Eleven Madison, most of the Three Michelin Star. This one, O Mandarin, I highly recommend to try before it become 2-3 Michelin Star. The story of the interior design from very Single wood, Brick, Door, etc are fully of stories and they are hundreds of year old materials brought from Over sea. The owner perfectly home made ( Made in U.S. Daily ) the "8 pieces of Beijing Imperial house desserts" from Beijing. A friend clued me into this place opening up. I have not been to very many elegant Chinese restaurants, so I was excited to try this place. Walking in, the first thing is that the decor is very well appointed. A cozy, but not cramped dining room layout. The staff was friendly, and knew what they were doing, and don't seem to have any hiccups despite this only being the third week open. Looking at the menu, it was hard to decide what to order. Everything sounded appealing. We settled on an appetizer of wood ear mushrooms, an order of potstickers, two entrees and a fried rice. The flavors of the food was all very fresh. Unlike many places, that mask low quality herbs and spices with tons of soy sauce, everything here was light on sauce, and rich on flavor. The mushrooms had some snap to them, and the potstickers had a very tender dough. The brisket was melt in the mouth, and the lamb had no smell or gaminess. All the greens were bright and still had structure to them. Overall, I loved the meal, and will be going back, hopefully with friends, so we can order more food (as it was, we took plenty of food home with us). read more
