First time ever to visit this place. Decor is classic ramen noodle restaurants...very nice! Service was extremely impressive with everyone working with one another so we were taken care of by 3 servers...very nice! Food...we ordered the chicken catsu don and the pork belly bowl. Wow...lots of rice but only a small portion of protein. In addition, there was not enough teriyaki sauce on both...so had to ask for more. Quality of food was outstanding...miso soup was exceptional. Just tweaks here and there will make this place the best ramen shop in town....one more recommendation...more choices. read more

The line was super long we waited for about 45 minutes and the food was alright I've had better. The prices are reasonable though it was $12 for my ramen. The employees had an argument and customers could obviously hear it and there was this host that kept complaining about the people she worked with. Made me anxious as I ate I would be more comfortable to eat my food and enjoy it if they didn't do that, at least pretend you like each other for people's sake? read more

Hmmm how do I begin...well I cannot remember the first time we actually made the trip to O Ramen but I can say it was after trying Kamisama Ramen (original location). Now in no way, shape or form am I a ramen expert but I take pride in knowing good food and O Ramen does it well. Over the past year or so I have not changed what I order unless it is an appetizer, some rice or my drink, I stick with one ramen simply because it blew me away from the first time it burned my mouth to just the other day when I had it yet again. Now I know there are other places outside of Bakersfield who may do it better, I would not know because I have not explored them, but in my foodie opinion, O Ramen does it best here in Bakersfield. So what is my choice of ramen that has not changed? TANTANMEN! It is: A red chili oil pork broth ramen with chashu pork, marinated soft boiled egg, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, garlic, cabbage and ground chicken. Recently I started adding an extra egg and extra noodles which come on the side to pop in when you feel the need. Tantanmen is bursting with UMAMI, the level of spiciness is always consistent and the depth of the broth is very rich. If you're not into spicy food don't fret there are six other ramen options which eventually I will try. Depending upon how much hunger we are currently enduring we may order some appetizers, we have tried several and none have disappointed. Their Gyoza which you have a choice of chicken or vegetable is done well, not oily like some places and the sear on them are quite perfect. The dipping sauce is just the right touch to accompany the appetizer. We have also had the Karagge Chicken, it is super crispy but the chicken is still moist. If you're into mushrooms and don't mind fried foods, their Monkey Ball is definitely a nice choice. They are panko fried mushroom that is drizzled with a spicy mayo sauce, that line just makes the mouth water up. They have many options which I do want to try, the Tantanmen is my addiction currently so I can't break away yet; they have Pan Fried Noodles, several Rice Bowls, salads, bento boxes and dessert like mochi ice cream. There is something for everyone to enjoy and O Ramen is the type of restaurant you will want to tell everyone about, we surely do, friends, family and colleagues. read more

I have loved this restaurant for years now but I have never experienced such horrible service ever. My husband and I went yesterday afternoon around 12pm and we weren't welcomed like we normally are. The lady that was working seemed to be on her late 20s early 30s. I'm not saying you have to dress to impress but dress like you're ready to work. This woman was in see-through leggings with crocs and a nasty attitude. She sat us at our table, threw the menus at the table and said "drinks?" She came back with our drinks and said, "what are you ordering?" we felt very pressured to order so we ended up ordering two appetizers before we were ready to select our meal. I decided to order the potstickers and requested for the spicy chicken, which is extra money, and we ordered the Karagee chicken. About 5 minutes later she came back and asked if we were ready to order which at this point we said yes we ended up getting two of the Ramen combos and ended up asking for add-ons like eggs, spice level and shrimp tempura. After placing the order we realized she didn't ask if we wanted white rice or garlic rice(which they always do when you get the ramen combo) so my husband called her over and asked very politely if she could make sure we receive garlic rice instead of white. This woman rolls her eyes and drags her feet to the cook to tell him. A couple minutes after we received our appetizers and the potstickers that I ordered with spicy chicken were plain and didn't have the spicy chicken when I noticed that it didn't have the spicy chicken. I asked her if she had put in the order and she said "you never said you wanted spicy chicken" at this point I was trying to keep my composure because this was very unprofessional the minute we stepped into the building. I simply looked at her and said, "don't worry about it these will be fine thank you" . At this point, we're enjoying our appetizers and keep in mind because we were there pretty early in the day. It was very quiet, and this woman decides to vent about her personal life to the cook there. She starts talking about death in the family and a funeral in which they had to attend. which don't get me wrong, I understand that life can be hard, and that you are going to come across certain situations in which may be hard to go through like deaths but I believe there is a time and place and on the clock infront of paying customers really isn't it. At this point new customers come in through the side door which has sign not to utilize that door. But this woman scolded the customers and stated, can you not read the signs use the other door and you can tell the customers with a bit uncomfortable but the way that she approached it wasn't correctly. She then turned around and spoke to the cook very loudly and stated that they post signs all over the door in the signs are posted that the door is not to be used for an entrance, and the people should learn how to read. So rude. People make mistakes...no need to be an asshole about it. After we received our Ramen we noticed the toppings that we received and paid for we're different than what we received. At this point, I was very hesitant to say anything in regards to our Ramen being wrong, because the first time that I brought it up to her attention about our appetizers being wrong she was very reluctant to help and was very quick to point fingers and state that I didn't order it the right way or asked for it when in fact I did. After we received our ramen she never came by to refill our drinks or check up on us. By far the worst experience I've ever had. My check came out to $75 and it's very unfortunate because I could have easily taken my business else where for half of the price and way better service. Japanese food is one of my favorite foods so I get excited when I hear a new place has opened in town and even more excited to hear it was a ramen restaurant. Their aren't many places you can get ramen in Bakersfield, I can count the number of places I know serve it on one hand. Ramen seems like it would be a simple dish but actually their's a lot of things that restaurants can do wrong when making it which makes good ramen somewhat hard to find around this part of the state. O Ramen's aesthetic is very nice and if I had to describe it with 2 words it would be modern-minimalistic. Tables are very evenly placed which is oddly satisfying and the lighting is perfect; nothing is worse than a place too brightly/dimly lit. The service was amazing, our waitress was very attentive and was quick on refills. Everyone in my party of four loved their food. We had the garlic fried rice, pork ramen, and soba noodles with fried vegatables. What really stood out was the garlic fried rice, it was so amazing that I had to get an order to go as well. The ramen was great as well although next time I might ask them to leave out the Nori because it gave the ramen sort of a fishy taste that was somewhat unexpected but it didn't exactly take anything away from the ramen as it was a very faint taste. $10 for a delicious bowl of ramen. That's hard to beat! This place is the one you want for fairly authentic Japanese noodles, from satisfying hot soupy noodles in winter to specialty cold noodle dishes in summer. The chashu combos are a great deal, which includes the popular ramen with sliced pork and your choice of various small rice bowls as a side dish: more pork, chicken, salmon eggs, or even grilled eel! I definitely recommend ordering the iced green tea to drink, since it has lots of flavor and balances out the ramen. There are plenty of other choices on the menu if you don't feel like ramen or noodle bowls, including fried noodles, salad, fish or tofu. My only issue was that the tonkotsu broth was too creamy, but otherwise everything was grand, with easy parking, an efficient staff handling takeout orders and limited dine in customers, and a decor that could have been somewhere in Japan! read more

Simply the best ramen joint in town!! No one else even comes close! The spicy Tonkotsu ramen is absolutely delicious. The chicken shoyu ramen and the tantanmen are also fantastic! The place is small, but very inviting. The appetizers are also fantastic and deserve recognition! The seared ahi tuna is absolutely delectable l! What bothers me is that some people here are rating this less than 5 stars because I have been here four times and I've never been disappointed. Ramen done right! I had the tonkotsu ramen and was worried that I sounded bland well it was very simple but it was flavor packed and delicious, the broth, pork, noodles , egg not once did I have to compromise my taste buds in this joyous experience I'm happy to have had come here and I hope they stay open for a long time. Also this restaurant plays ambient music instead of pop music or some shit like that I mean damn I want to have a meal not go to a night club and they understand it. Hey! So I was craving some ramen, spicy Tonkotsu from Monta Ramen to be exact but since we don't have one in town, I searched on yelp for ramen places and came across with O Ramen. Since I've never been here before, I thought I should give it a try. I wanted something spicy so I ordered the Tantanmen ramen and it did not disappoint, it was actually delicious! Perfectly spiced which I love, the pork was very tender, and the broth..flavorful! It didn't need tweaking with other spices which I normally do at some places. Smashed the soft boiled egg with custard like yolk and It made the broth even more tastier. It definitely satisfied my Ramen craving. Tantanmen is highly recommended to people that loves spicy food. The place looks nice and the ambient was welcoming although I was seated facing outside..it was so bright (people wearing contacts problem) that I almost wear my sunnies inside lol but that wasn't the case here. The service was great. I would definitely come back and would try other foods on the menu. It's good to finally have a good ramen place in town to run into in times of ramen cravings. read more

Finally had the chance to come here and try their Ramen. Been wanting to go for so long as I have friends who raved about this place and highly recommend that I go try. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen and my brother got the Tantanmen. We neither like or dislike the Ramen... it was just we're not impressed. Maybe because we had so much expectations from recommendations? It was OK. Most ramen places I've been to have a page of just add ons, O Ramen did not, the bowls were too large for the lack of items inside. They did not offer corn, kimchi ( which is a MUST imo ), garlic chips, bacon or any other kind of meat. The pork was too thinly sliced and definitely did not command a $10 ramen bowl price. Lady V and I came here on a whim to try something new. Wow, this place is great. First, great customer service. Very attentive and made us feel very welcome. The Karaage chicken was excellent. I don't know if it's authentic but it was very good. Lady V had the Marukame Udon/ tempura....awesome. The tempura batter had a great seasoning to it and was far from plain. Light, flakey and flavorful. The udon was done perfectly as well. I had the Tonkotsu Ramen, I loved it. It was savory and the broth was perfect. We were already planning to bring some friends the next time we come. Which for us is a big sign this place is doing things right. read more

This place was a complete surprise. Our 20 something son kept raving about it. The place is terrific. Love the raman of course but have been sampling other dishes. I came to Bakersfield about three days ago. Since then, I tried to find good restaurants other than fast foods. Today, I tried out this place since the rating was 4.5 stars with over 200 participants. To say the conclusion first, I was very disappointed. I ordered Tonkotsu Ramen and Garlic Chashu Fried Rice Bowl. The salad came out first. Then, I started eating it and wow the dressing is from the market (not sure what kind but maybe yuzu dressing). I mean it is okay, but since it was 4.5 stars I expected much more. The garlic chashu fried rice came out next. I do not even want to call it a fried rice. It's just a rice and oyster sauce. Where are other ingredients? Also, why is chashu all shredded and covered with so much pepper? Finally, Tonkotsu ramen came out, it looked legit at first, but of course, it does not taste anything like a real Tonkotsu ramen. The base of the broth is not made out of pork bones. I believe the broth base is anchovy and kelp. I expected a ramen with a thick pork taste, but it did not have that at all. The noodle and the chashu in the soup were decent, but the soup itself was very very disappointing. I am not saying that the food tasted bad. I am just saying it was not authentic at all. Every food there was not Japanese style. Maybe I had too much expectation. However, I just cannot stop thinking that this place is run by a Thai or maybe Chinese food based person. I came here plenty of times and never had a problem with the service or the food but the CHICKEN SHOYU RAMEN wasn't all that great the chicken was really dry. The other thing I didn't get was that I spent 21.08$ and was charged 18$ for gratuity which didn't make sense because I was with a group of friends and one of my friends spent 15$ and was charged 2 dollars and some change for gratuity and my other friend spent 45$ and was only charged 5$ and some change for gratuity and I try to explain to the waiter why I was getting charged 18$ for gratuity if I only spent 21.08$ and she told me the 18$ was for the whole table but if that was the case shouldn't it have been split evenly with everyone ? My favorite item on their menu is the garlic pork fried rice. It's a bit greasy but delicious! The ramen is good but I hardly order it because I enjoy the garlic pork fried rice too much to pass it up. When I order ramen I always wish I had more noodles to balance out the ratio with the broth. Excellent ramen place. We've eaten here a few times and have tried ramen, rice bowls, pan fried noodles, and bento boxes. So far none have been disappointing. Their side salad dressing is sweet with the smallest hint of a spice kick (so good I had to give it it's own mention). Our favorites include Tonkatsu ramen and Chicken Katsu rice bowls. Mochi ice cream is also one of the treats we like to enjoy but they also offer cheese cake if you're not feeling too adventurous. Stopped in for lunch. Ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen with extra Chasu and extra corn with a order of Chicken Karage to start. -Karage was dry and over priced at $8. (2 out of 5). -Ramen Noodles ok (3 out of 5). -Chasu was fatty and slimy (2-5). -Broth was fairly flavorful but the Nori was very fishy and the broth took on the flavor of the Nori. I want my Tankatsu broth to taste like pork and seaweed... Not like a fish head. -Egg... Pretty bad. Way overcooked. Couldn't get through it with my chopsticks. When I did.... I wished I hadn't (1-5). -Vegetables: Corn was sweet and well cooked but there was barely any in the bowl. Luckily I added extra corn. The extra helping was sizable. Pretty light on the green onion. That was it for the vegetables (2 out of 5). All in all not a great experience and not worth the $25 price tag. Service was fine. Will try other options the next time through Bakersfield. read more

This is my first time reviewing a restaurant on Yelp. I'm eleven years old and I've eaten ramen in the Philippines, Hong Kong, Germany, Copenhagen, Los Angeles, and San Jose. O Ramen is the best place ever. I never had such good ramen in my life! They're Chicken Kastu Don was delicious especially because it was a ramen combo. Quality was very good. I like how they cooked the broth and the ramen noodles, although I didn't eat the bean sprouts or bamboo shoots. It was fourteen dollars for the bowl of ramen with a small bowl of chicken katsu with rice. My dad thinks the food was okay and he got the ramen combination of Chaisu Ramen with a small teriyaki bow, but he says he's not sure if he wants to come back. My mom got the Tonkatsu Ramen. "It was okay," she says, but she thinks that Santouka is still the best. She also says that she might come back with me when we visit Bakersfield again because she loves me. The restaurant atmosphere was wonderful because the place was clean and the decor was very pleasant to look at, but there weren't too much decorations were me and my parents sat. Was my favorite place and have ordered hundreds of times from them. I had noticed it was getting harder to find them on any delivery service. The last time i called and asked they said they won't use DoorDash or Uber because it's too expensive. Today, as I am sicker than heck, all I wanted was Ramen, and can't find them on ANY delivery service. I called them and apparently they are no longer using a delivery service. I happened to be in the strip mall where O Ramen is located and after reading reviews decided to try some takeout. This was on Friday Nov 4. At 5:10pm, was told would take 30-40 mins so had to cancel my order since I had to leave at 5:30 elsewhere. As luck would have it my car battery died and had to wait an hour for a jump! Originally I was only ordering for my grandson and me, so took a few more orders from my son. Went in and ordered tantanmen ramen, shoyu chicken ramen, pork tonkatsu ramen and garlic pork fried rice. Delicious, every dish. Tantanmen was spicy hot, perfect for the cold evening. Rice was extremely flavorful, other ramen dishes great also! We will be going back. The Ramin was super fishy tasting, which is not what I want when I ask for Pork. The rice was very bland, which is not what I want when I pay extra for garlic. In all honesty we've never had real ramen from a restaurant... Normally we opt for Pho and have yet to find a good place for that here. Anyways...
