Tantanmen, tonkatsu ramen, and calamari. I can only comment on those three items. I want to try new menu items, but these three are consistently delicious everytime. I love the tantanmen, which has a spicy chili broth and all the ramen staples. The pork can be a little gamey at times, but the flavorful broth makes up for it. Tonkatsu ramen is great for when I want that bowl of comfort. The meat is gamey and can be a little fatty, but still yummy. My visits here are limited to the wintertime because as much as I love ramen, I can't eat it in the oppressive Bakersfield heat. The restaurant is clean, the staff is thoughtful and friendly, and my experiences have been consistent. My only gripe is the broth can been too salty for some. Had the Tokoyaki appetizer, bland - between the 3 of us - nobody wants to go for a second so it was left untouched. My brother recommended the place and treated us to a yummy lunch! So glad he did the Tantamen was so good the broth needed nothing added! It was my first authentic ramen and a great experience! It was spicy but not overbearing. I loved the veggies more than the meat though. I didn't care for the fatty chicken, I prefer just chicken breast but still good especially the soft boiled egg. As the picture shows, the tantanmen ramen that I received had an over-cooked egg. Perhaps a symbol of not being care-full about each component's quality. It gets 3 out of 5 because the rest of the dish was okay. That said, when the waitstaff asked how it was, and I showed them the hard yolk, they suggested that the chef was in a rush earlier so all the eggs were over-cooked. So I was in Tehachapi for work and as you may ir may not know, Tehachapi isn't very known for their food (they do have great bbq and a great Thai joint though). So I took the 40 minute trek out to Bakersfield in search of something I can't get everhday and saw that there is a ramen joint with great reviews. So i decided to check it out. I was definitely not disappointed. I think what got me more was the atmosphere more than anything else. Very well put together. It gives off a traditional ramen stand kind if vibe when you sit at the bar. You know, the ones that you see in animes that take place back in the day. The music was off the hook too. Hip hop instrumentals which fit very nicely with the entire vibe of the interior. I'm not going to lie, the food was a 3/5. I ordered the Chicken Shoyu and I've definitely had much better in LA, but this wasn't bad at all and they have a non-pork broth which is awesome. I didn't have any problems with the food, but this place is really unethical. I put in an online order for delivery via GrubHub on the Yelp app and called later (about 15-20 min) to confirm the order. The guy on the phone said that they had not received an order with my name and that they don't work with GrubHub, only DoorDash or PostMates. He offered to take the order for pick up. I figured that was fine and put in the order for pick up. I picked it up, paid for it, and on my way home, I get a call saying that the online order did come through and would be delivered to my house via PostMates. I clearly said "I didn't order anything from PostMates, I'm driving home with my delivery now." The guy said okay thanks and hung up the phone. They didn't pick up when I tried to called three times after that. Sure enough, the delivery comes to my house minutes after I get home so I have two of the same order and was charged twice. I don't understand why they didn't call me when they got the online order to begin with. My last name is not a common name and my cell phone is the same and listed on both orders. They clearly just wanted to make the sale twice and purposely charged me twice after knowing I already put in the order for pick up (they even called me to tell me that I had two orders... they just hung up on me and then didn't pick up any of my phone calls after). Wow! First time at a Ramen establishment. We had their spicy Raman (starts with a T)...it was amazing! Has a little bit of a dry shrimp flavoring...but not fishy if that makes sense. Its definitely hot though, so be careful if you're not used to spicy on the hotter side. Will definitely come again. read more
