Just has a terrible experience at this restaurant. I had gone with my 3 sisters and 3 small children aged 1,2 and 3. They charge a mandatory gratuity fee of 18% for a party of 6 and more. During the time of paying the bill, we asked to have the gratuity fee removed as we are only a party of 4 and our children were just sitting with us watching youtube. They told us they have to charge us because of the waters my children were given and because they brought out enough forks, spoons and plates for the kids as well. We told them our children did not use any of them and even had proof of unused utensils and plates. They came back and said they checked the cameras and saw we fed them a few bites. This is outrageous! Children that small should not be counted as a person. I am beyond upset and will never go back to this restaurant. In fact, the staff even told me to go find a more suitable restaurant then. I suggest you save yourself the trouble and dont go to this restaurant, or if you go, make sure to bring your water for the children because apparently they charge 15 dollars for water and utensils they didnt even use. Probably going to be the best ramen you will find in Bakersfield! Finally got a chance to try this place out last night. I'm going to be honest, i'm super critical because i am part Japanese and grew up eating ramen (have even been to Japan to eat before) so others may not agree with my review. That being said, our experience was great and we will definitely be back again! we went in on a Thursday night around 7pm; it was moderately busy. no wait though, we were seated right away. My 1yr old LOVES ramen noodles so we ordered quickly because she gets impatient when she is hungry, haha. from the appetizer menu we ordered the karaage and the takoyaki, from the ramen choices we ordered the Tonkotsu ramen and the chicken shoyu ramen, drinks were iced green tea and waters. the appetizers: takoyaki were pretty good, very fresh and hot. traditionally these are cooked a little differently they use a grill that has these little round dig-outs that they spin the takoyaki but O Ramen deep fries them...which i totally get for time reasons, they can't spend that kind of time on an appetizer so this is a quick option and they still taste great. topped with tonkatsu sauce, mayo, kastuobushi, and green onions...good job on nailing the toppings guys! we will order them again. the Karaage was kind of like their spin on the idea...the flavor was a little off for me so i think i will try a different appetizer next time. my father-in-law loved it though so i'm sure there are many fans out there. Ramen: the Tonkotsu is the one i shared with my daughter and the same one that my father-in-law ordered. we both had the same observation...the dashi flavor was a little bit too strong. if they take the dashi down a notch it wouldn't overpower the pork. the chashu inside the ramen was very tender and flavorful. had the standard bamboo shoots, nori, and green onions. what i was very pleased with is that the eggs are actually marinated the way they are supposed to be! yay! not all places do this anymore. I didn't try the broth for the Shoyu ramen because my kid was getting fussy but i didn't hear any complaints from my fiancé so i'm guessing it was good. i'm interested in trying the tantanmen next time so maybe there will be an update soon on this review. the iced green tea seemed like it was matcha powder ice tea....wasn't bad but i was expecting the tea that was steeped from the leaves so it was a bit of a surprise but not bad. all in all the service was great even with our noisy little one being a diva. we were interested in the drinks for next time...i saw that they have plum wine with the plums in the bottom of the cup so when we return without the little diva we will indulge. also, would love to see the addition of a miso ramen to the menu. definitely will be back. read more

My favorite ramen place in Bakersfield. Solid 4.5 stars. The service is always great and the broth is good. We order from here prolly at least twice a month. Favorite dish is the tonkatsu ramen. If you like spicy, you can ask for it to be spicy. My husband likes the tantanmen but I prefer the tonkatsu. I even love their actually tonkatsu chicken cutlets.. so crispy! We came here on a recommendation. I ordered the chicken ramen, my husband ordered the spicy ramen and my daughter ordered a chicken teriyaki bowl. Our food came relatively fast and hot. The chicken ramen is good if you like a soy based broth. The spicy is delicious and I wished I would of ordered that instead. I'm gonna start this review with MONKEY BALLS. It's like fried mushrooms, but better because it's extremely crunchy and fresh tasting with that mayo sauce!! Had the tantanmen and tonkatsu. The tantanmen was sooo flavorful ( I didn't care for the ground pork in it, but everything else was delicious. The tonkatsu was a little simpler in flavor, but still good. Will definitely be back. Only complaint is that during the end of our visit they got really busy and there was still just two people serving. We waited close to 15 minutes before getting our check and waited for 10 minutes for someone to take our payment before we just got up and went to the cashier so that they'd have to assist us. Don't get me wrong, O Ramen has, in my opinion the best ramen in Bakersfield. But they need to do better with attending to their customers in a timely manner. As I waited for my take out order a couple came in and waited 5 minutes at the door before they were greeted. Alright, so I went to UCLA for grad school and lived off ramen while I was there. Moved here 3 years ago and have been seriously disappointed by the ramen game in town. O Ramen has changed all that. Of course, if you are a purist, you still are likely to be unsatisfied, but so far this is the best shot at ramen that I've found. The broth is 4/5, noodles could be a little less cooked/soft...So 3.5/5. They do have garlic you can add to your ramen if you like that, but I'd prefer the whole cloves that I can press myself and put in. Taste is different. I've been to quite a lot of ramen places in ca and I can assure you that this place easily makes the top. The staff are incredibly friendly and the asthetic of the inside is really nice. But what really makes the places is their ramen of course. Their noodles are tender and flavorful and the meat easily melts in my mouth, both soaking in their broth which gives it an extra wow. The egg that comes with the ramen is made soft boiled which I mention because some places have hard boiled. I may be exaggerating but it's one of the best ramen eggs i've ever eating. I also recommend trying their chashu ramen combo, which comes with a small rice bowl of your choice (I recommend their teryaki chicken). The only thing to note about the combo is that it doesn't come with an egg, but you can order and egg on the side for cheap so it's not a big deal. Overall a great place to go, I recommend trying it for any ramen lovers. read more

I had to create an account to explain just how much I liked this place. Originally from Bakersfield, I've spent a considerable amount of time in Japan. When I finally moved back home after too many years, immediately I felt "home sick" for Japan. When I found out about O Ramen I jumped into my car and floored it there for lunch. They had my favorite, Tantanmen..hope I spelled that right. I'm no harsh food critic but you better believe when it comes to that spicy bowl I judged ALL the ramen shops I could find in the time I had back in the day. I Ramen, thank you so much for making me feel like I was back "home". The only reason I give it a 4 out of 5 is because I'm not sure they had density choices for the noodles. Granted it was my first time there so it could very well have been me just not looking and reading the menu. One thing is for sure, I'm making lunch there a regular thing. Let's talk briefly about pricing. Yes it may graze the double digit number, however what you receive for it I honestly feel is worth what they ask for. Not only do you get the food, but the atmosphere was so good for me. The staff is friendly as heck and while I was there they had that lofi genre of music playing. Newest ramen spot in Bako. Still not the real deal authentic ramen that I'm used to finding in L.A. I tried the tantanmen, a spicy ramen with a little chashu, decent, but I feel like I'm settling if I give this place anything higher than three stars. Service was great, decor nice and clean. Loved the Japanese radio station playing, but the crew was Chinese. Appreciate them trying to vibe it out. My wife had the vegetable ramen and she couldn't even finish it.
