I bought a battery & was charged $22 + tax on the receipt for the core (old battery). When I brought my old battery back, the store only refunded me $22 without the sales tax of $2.26. I returned to the store couples times, the staff didn't know what to do & the manager wasn't around. A female staff was very rude & held hostage my receipts, although I asked her to release the receipts back to me several times, she wouldn't & yelling at me that I only eligible for $22 refund, she refused to look at the amount of sales tax printed on the receipt. This is not only about the $2.26 sales tax on the core that wasn't refunded to me, but more about the store reaping off its customers for not having correctly working software in refunding the amount to its customers plus not very knowledgeable staff about the refund process & inapropriate female staff who treated store customer rudely & held hostage customer's receipts. The store & the corporate need to do some deep training to its staff & to correct its software to refund customer's money in full. read more

I ended up buying more stuff that I needed for the car too. Whoever is the manager; you need more people like Daniel & he deserve every praise & raise. I had a battery issue with an obscure old Honda I have, and the two folks that I have interacted with have been great (black lady with braids and white dude with a pony tail). They helped me find a suitable replacement battery for my 53 year old Honda N360. They have also helped me with working out a cooling system issue on a newer (all the way upgraded to 2006!) Civic I am getting used to. Straight forward, personable human beings that are both knowledgeable...a rarity it seems in the customer service sector (of which I am a part of and appreciate that it can be a drag sometimes). I drive out from Berkeley to deal with them, and support their business. My wipers had been making a terrible noise for months. I called these guys to see if they had replacement wipers in stock (they did) and I went the next day. When I got there, they actually had a cheaper version available, so they found them quickly, and an employee put them on my car, all in 10 minutes. I went here to look for some headlight bulbs and found what I wAs looking form. The store was professional, clean and the stafff were totally nice and accommodating. I had some super basic questions and they answered them. Sometimes, the people working in those stores can pick up that you know nothing and talk down to you, but not here. My car wouldn't start after AAA jumped it (and it was running), and they walked me through the equipment I would need to charge my battery at home, to jump it again if I ever needed to, plus advised me how to use the portable battery jumper as a power supply for my home devises in case of a power outage. He had to order the part that I needed for my car. When the part arrived at the store he checked it out, to make sure it was the right part. I was able to pick it up the next day. This location is just ok. Overall a good selection of whatever car parts you may need and even if they don't currently have it, they can order it for you. The staff needs a lot of improvement. Half the time they won't pay attention to the customers and seem annoyed when asked questions. read more

Unprofessional, Incompetent Assistant Manager The staff at the El Cerrito store couldn't explain why I was not refunded the tax on a battery core charge refund (turns out the California tax board requires the sales tax to be charged but not refunded). The only answer the O'Reilly staff gave was that they had never refunded it before. I considered this circular logic and unacceptable as an answer. The assistant manager Joel insisted that no tax had been charged even after looking at the receipt. The item was clearly marked with a "T" as a taxable item. I found it amazing that an assistant manager did not know that taxable items were marked that way on a receipt. I calculated the Albany 10.25% sales tax for him, clearly showing it had been taxed. I can only guess he could not keep up with the simple math. He kept insisting tax had not been charged. The worst thing that Joel did was state that I could come down to the store and talk to him. I said I would and was there in 20 minutes. He was at lunch. He never said he was going to lunch or would not be at the store when I stated I would come down. He obviously left within minutes of our conversation. I can only describe his actions as completely unprofessional. He could have called me because I just gave him my phone number to look up the transaction receipts. The El Cerrito O'Reilly's store will never see another cent from me. read more

I had my oil changed last week, and during the filter inspection, the guy noted that my cabin filter was filthy, overflowing with leaves, pine needles, and dust. The answer, he posited, was for me to purchase a filter from the oil-changing company for $35. It is true that I am a stark-raving idiot, but some things are crystal clear even to someone like me: if a dealership or service is offering a part for price A, then any given parts store will sell the same item for one-third to one-half A. That's just the terrain. Anyhow, I politely declined and afterwards eventually made my way to O'Reilly. I can't give a full run down on this place since I've only been here twice, but I can tell you that I was in and out in less than ten minutes. The guy at the counter who helped me was polite, friendly, and supplied authentic-sounding courtesy laughs to my jokes. The kicker, of course, is that the filter I needed cost $16 and change after tax. The verdict: a high 3 stars. read more

It's an chain auto-parts store. What do you really expect? Everyone should know what they're getting when they go here, as far as product selection and quality/manufacturer is concerned. But I've had two experiences here now where a couple of the clerks look me up and down, see that I'm not someone who works on cars or in any other skilled hand trade professionally, and sees it as an opportunity to try to run game on me. The latest such example occurred while I was purchasing a distributor cap. The motherfucking prick behind the counter pretended to call Autozone to price match the part for me, and appeared to fake a conversation in which the Autozone employee didn't know what a Porsche is (repeatedly saying "no, no a Ford" and "Porsche, fast car, vroom vroom"). After wasting my time, he tells me the part is the same price at their store. Well guess what, I went home and verified that it was in fact nearly $20 cheaper. I went back, talked to a different employee (Paul, a real standup guy by the way, and he actually knows his stuff), and he quickly looks it up and refunds me the difference. If you ever have to visit this dump, know exactly what you're looking for and be prepared for either employee ignorance, indifference, or maybe outright malice. read more

Usually every time I come in here is to get some car wash stuff. They have a decent selection of car wash / car detail products for both interior and exterior . I have yet to come in when they are busy and I am always in and out really quick. Staff has always been very friendly and always asked if I needed help. I've bought stuff here before and not had any issues. They even offered to lend me a battery tester to check the battery in my car. Yesterday, they sold me the wrong battery even though I gave them the year, model number and engine displacement. Apparently that was not enough info because they asked me the form factor. I didn't know it but told them I thought it may be a short rather than a long battery. I then asked if there was more than one battery that was recommended when they type in the info, I never got a straight answer so I took the battery they pulled off the shelf. I ended up having to take it back to O'Reilly in Vallejo and exchange it for the longer one. They then gave me a long one but with the terminals on the wrong side. When I took that battery back again, I checked the screen the guy pulled up and it wasn't even for a van, it was for a pick-up truck. After correcting him, I double checked the info and there was ONE option only. The one I needed had a dash in the model number and one with the terminals had an R (for right no doubt since mine needed terminal posts on the left). Why these guys can not look up a simple part and match the model number exactly with what they give you is beyond me. I would double check the screen or the part against the old part if you don't want to spend three trips running back and forth to the store like I did. read more

The saleperson helped us find the light in a few minutes. We were outside trying to replace the little sucker afterward but it was obstructed by the battery. Then we asked the guy in there to help. I had a flat tire last week. I got it fixed at my car dealer. When I got out of the parking lot today, though, that same tire looked flat, still. I went to O'Reilly and asked if they could take a look to see if my tire was OK. The cashier named, I think, Bruno, helped me and told me my tires were fine. I then told him that I had a ding in my door that caught against my fender. The cashier took a screwdriver and a piece of cardboard and popped it back out. He helped diagnose and fix an issue of a part that costs less than three quarters and helped make sure the part was installed correctly. Hands down the best service I've ever had from an auto parts store. When I was struggling with installing an oil filter, I brought the filter back and spoke at length to "Gino" about my difficulties. I told him I'd done a hundred oil changes and that it was a mystery to me why this one was so hard. He gave me a new filter at no charge and told me to call him if I had problems. I did. While on the phone with him, he said he'd come to my house on his break and help me with the problem. He actually came, diagnosed the problem, and installed the filter. AMAZING! What's more is the store lent me the tools I needed to get the job done. No charge! read more

Their friendly staff asked us how we were doing and after explaining the issue the male employee deduced that the problem could be solved by using a small razor to clear off excess debris. O'Reilly Auto Parts became my hero last week. My water pump blew when I went to Burning Man and there are no tow or auto repair services. I had limited phone reception and was able to speak to Teo who not only made sure I had the pump, his insight about what will be needed to repair this truck out in the middle of nowhere assured that I also had the gasket, room temperature vulcanizer, coolant fluid, and basic tools. I had a friend pick up the parts and bring them to me so I can fix the truck. Teo went above and beyond by not only taking my order but offering me recommendations on what I may actually need given my situation. read more
