Chopped salad
Loretta H.

O'tooles is a very spacious bar that serves bar food. It seems that the only time I entertain going to O'tooles is when there's a meeting of friends or a group (AAA travel people) so food has not been super. Or maybe it was just what we ordered. We tried the irish nachos which were exactly what you would expect..chips topped with corned beef and what was once melted cheese drizzled with russian dressing. Was it the ambiant temp or it took too long to arrive at the table, but cheese did look like it had melted once. Friends all chose different dishes but could only see my end of the table...fish and chips and a salad were gotten at my end of table of 9 people. Fish and chips looked good. Chopped salad had too much blue cheese so all you could taste was the cheese (hard to believe). I like some cheese, but really didn't expect the whole thing to be blue cheese. More is not always better. There is plenty of parking, our waitress was very attentive, but noise keeps everyone from really carrying on much of a conversation. Will go again if group goes back...but probably not just for lunch or dinner.

We came here because my sister wanted that chicken sandwich they just added to the menu so I'll start with that.....it was absolutely awful. It's covered in cheese powder like it says but it's like eating the powder from boxed Mac and cheese straight. It leave a film on your tongue, a mess all over your hands it's an absolute mess and it's lacking complex flavors. Needs an acid or a spice or something to cut from the thick heavy fake cheese taste. It's hard to describe but it's just awful. The fries were under salted and kind of soggy in both meals. The fish was good. It's pretty standard beer battered fish. The sizzling fajitas looked good and smelled amazing but the rice had an odd flavor. All together in the actual wrap it was good though. Waitress was really nice and fast. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance was quiet and looks the same as it did a decade ago when I last ate there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Forgot to mention we got a chicken quesadilla app and that was FANTASTIC. Ate it so fast we didn't get a pic.

Cold, oily, very chewy smashed tater tots.

This has been hit or miss. I liked their Ruben. Their nachos are good too. Out of 4 trips, was happy with 2. Went for Brunch and got an omelet with mushrooms and bacon in it. Bacon may have been a very small single slice. Came with "smashed tater tots" that had tasted like they had been sitting in oil for hours, cold, and hard to the point it was hard to chew. Probably not going back unless I want nachos.

Excellent BLT.

There was a sign about seating, but no one was available to show me a seat. I made my way over to the bar seating where there are TV screens. Behind the bar seating are some booths. The first thing I experienced was the horrendously loud noise from all the gaming machines. Next, there were very few customers at the bar or using the booths. The customers at the bar were more interested in each other than anything on the screens. The barmaid was at the far end of the bar yukking it up with some guy who probably was her boyfriend and I was ignored. Finally, I went up to someone who worked there and was told something about a basketball game being on and the PPV will start after the game. Total bullsh*t. Another employee got a remote and found the PPV and put it on two screens. The barmaid eventually came over and seemed disturbed that she had to take my order. She soon disappeared again and didn't ask me anything about how I liked the food or whether I wanted a refill (soft drink) until I was about ready to leave. Now it's close to midnight, and the bar area booths got swamped with little kids who just finished with the games. What normal parents bring their little kids to a bar near midnight when they should be in bed sleeping? I was glad the PPV was over and I couldn't leave fast enough.

We were in town here grabbing some dinner with my nephew who is a student at RPI. It's been forever…read moresince I've been at a mall, but there was plenty of parking despite the rainy weather, and we got into here quickly for a table for dinner. Their dessert case right in front of the entrance was taunting me.... We were seated and greeted by Sang Jun, who was fantastic. It turns out that we are all Korean, we figured that out at the end of the meal but he was amazing as a server. Never needed to ask for anything, made several recommendations, and we had a really great meal and evening. The menu is giant! Come hungry for sure! I started out with a margarita flight, which was not only beautiful, but delicious. We started out with the ahi tuna nachos, which was delicious and beautiful. Scallions, tuna, fried wonton skins as chips, jalapeños and sauce that made it all worth every calorie. I ignored the jalapeños, but still inhaled the tuna and everything else. Crowd pleaser for sure. My nephew got the salmon special, served with sweet potatoes. I ordered the bang bang shrimp and chicken that came with lo mein. The sauce was a Thai curry base and has veggies and was literally inhale-able. I ate the proteins (cooked perfectly) and some of the noodles, then ended up eating the leftover noodles the next morning. Still just as good cold out of the fridge! My brother got the ramen. They were out of the pork (or it was off the menu) so he went with the beef. That looked so good, bowl was filled to brim with noodles, garnishes, and beef. It was perfect since he wasn't feeling well. My nephew decided halfway thru his salmon dish he wanted a side Caesar salad and Sang Jun brought one tha looked like it was made for the Internet. Well plated and giant portion. We were absolutely stuffed so we had no room for desserts, even though they looked so good in the cooler walking in. We had a nice discussion with SJ about our family trip to Korea last summer, telling him about some of the most embarrassing moments and getting a good laugh. I guess this is a chain, but I hope that I see one again. I'll be ready to have the same exact thing, or try something new- I'm sure it will be amazing. Thanks to the team and Sang Jun for a memorable meal here in Albany!

Wireless internet? In a tavern? You mean enjoy wings and a beer in a casual environment and catch up on my Yelping at the same time? Sign me up. I don't know why I didn't listen to my instincts and run away when I first stepped foot in this place. It had the distinctive smell of toilet soap-cakes. Plus the restaurant was almost deserted. Two women in their 80s were eating a sandwich, drinking a bottle of bud (from a glass, mind you, they were ladies) and playing keno. You get the picture. I could go into more detail, but it's just not worth it. The wings that I ordered crispy, were some of the slimiest I have had in the area. The blue cheese dressing had turned and was curdled. A few of the wings were mangled, with bones sticking out in all directions. I'm a pretty tough customer. It takes a lot to turn my stomach. But I actively tried (and ultimately succeeded) in keeping those wings down. It wasn't easy, but mint gum and herbal tea are very soothing. And the punchline: Yes they have wireless internet access... but it's password protected.

So when I arrived at the Albany airport, I was a little frustrated to discover my CLEAR membership wasn't available there. To make matters more interesting, the line just to reach TSA stretched nearly 45 minutes thanks to the athletes and spectators returning from the Lake Placid Ironman. As I was also feeling a bit nostalgic about leaving Lake George--my Queen--I wandered across from my gate into The Local Pub. And that's where my day completely turned around. Sandra, the bartender and server, was juggling a full bar and several tables, yet somehow made every guest feel genuinely welcome. She is down-to-earth, sincere, personable, kind, and joyful. I overheard her tell another guest that she truly loves what she does, and it couldn't have been more evident in the way she cared for everyone around her. She enthusiastically recommended menu items, honestly sharing what she thought was "the best," and every interaction was authentic rather than rehearsed. In a world where exceptional customer service sometimes feels hard to find, Sandra was a beautiful reminder that hospitality is less about the setting and more about the person. What a refreshing pleasure to end my New York visit in a modest, small-town airport with such a gracious host. She rescues animals of every genus; from reptiles to felines, canines, birds, mice, and more! She clearly has a nurturing soul and nurtures everyone she encounters. Go, Sandra, go! You're the greatest! You made a bittersweet departure so much brighter. Thank you for sending me home with a smile. Oh, and PS: get the chicken quesadilla and add onion!
