I have to admit, I've recently been spoiled by traveling through larger airports that feel more like shopping malls--with fine dining, spas, nail salons, and every convenience imaginable. So when I arrived at the Albany airport, I was a little frustrated to discover my CLEAR membership wasn't available there. To make matters more interesting, the line just to reach TSA stretched nearly 45 minutes thanks to the athletes and spectators returning from the Lake Placid Ironman. As I was also feeling a bit nostalgic about leaving Lake George--my Queen--I wandered across from my gate into The Local Pub. And that's where my day completely turned around. Sandra, the bartender and server, was juggling a full bar and several tables, yet somehow made every guest feel genuinely welcome. She is down-to-earth, sincere, personable, kind, and joyful. I overheard her tell another guest that she truly loves what she does, and it couldn't have been more evident in the way she cared for everyone around her. She enthusiastically recommended menu items, honestly sharing what she thought was "the best," and every interaction was authentic rather than rehearsed. In a world where exceptional customer service sometimes feels hard to find, Sandra was a beautiful reminder that hospitality is less about the setting and more about the person. What a refreshing pleasure to end my New York visit in a modest, small-town airport with such a gracious host. She rescues animals of every genus; from reptiles to felines, canines, birds, mice, and more! She clearly has a nurturing soul and nurtures everyone she encounters. Go, Sandra, go! Sat there from 4pm-530pm not one person asked us if.we.wanted anything or came by and cleaned our table. A black woman was working and came by our table about 430 i asked for 2 drinks she said she was off the clock. The only way I was able tonget a drink was to walk up to the bar. Many people were frustrated and walked out. We wanted to eat. The sandwiches on the menu looked great. I have been sitting here for about an hour, simply ordered a glass of wine and a snack, the wine came but I was told the cook was taking a break and so far nothing. The server although very sweet was so slow and she ask me to pay for my wine because she is going off shift. I still haven't got my snack, so a glass of wine it is. The server is still here. The table I am at, I believe hasn't been cleaned for a while. I would suggest Chik Fi La if you are needing a meal. read more

The Local @ ALB is a great place to grab a quick bite to eat or drink when at the Albany airport waiting for your flight. Today my Sister and I were flying to Baltimore together where we would have a short layover before going back home. Even though it was only 9:00am, we decided on a beer and an ALB Smoked Salmon Bagel ($14.89). My Sister bought my beer (Sam Adams New England IPA) so I am not even sure what it cost but with a bagel sandwich running almost $15, I am assuming it was not cheap. The Bagel sandwich was good but not worth $15 in my opinion. The bagel was fresh but not toasted and included cream cheese, smoked salmon, chopped egg, red onions and capers. If I were to order this sandwich again in the future, I would definitely leave out the red onions. Who needs all that mess on the plane? I am sure that some of the other food here is good but for me the pricing is a mixed bag between average and pricy. Some Items, I could see spending the money on but others like the Grilled Chicken Caesar salad for $16 or one of the higher-end Burgers for $15, I would most likely pass on (especially in an airport). Regardless of pricing, I would come back to the Local @ ALB on my next visit to the Albany Airport because my Sister and I shared a memorable experience here. Popped in here while waiting for a flight home. I had planned to eat at the fast food chicken place but as usual, the line was exceptionally long. Glad it was as otherwise I would not have experienced this place. Had a burger and "house made" chips. The hamburger was very good. I wish the chips were warmed but still tasty. This is a very good option if you need a meal at the Albany airport. The service wasn't fantastic but... not that bad. Had to go up to the bar to pay my bill as I needed to get moving. This place is THE WORST. The wait is forever so if you have to get anywhere on a plane then don't stop. You will miss your flight! The staff moves as if their feet are in molasses. They pour drinks before anyone else can get food. The white man who sat down after me is now eating food and I'm still waiting. The two servers that are "working" are not in a rush at all and complain when people try to get food or ask for it in a time frame due to their flights leaving. One star is even pushing it. The worst service I and my coworkers have ever experienced. The waitress, Nicole throughout the entire dining experience made comments about us loud enough for us to hear. Was extremely disrespectful from the time we sat down until we left. Some of the comments include: "I can't wait until they leave so I can go to my happy place." "You'll get $5 from them at most." "It's one BS comment after another". It doesn't surprise me to see that the ALB has a two star rating. Staff was incredibly rude, and most of the tables had residual smears of dirt on them despite there being no one in the restaurant. A good resting spot at the airport. The bartenders are very nice and attentive. I didn't have any of their food while waiting for my flight but the food that went past me looked pretty good. The Bloody Mary wasn't one of my faves though. Yes, it was perfectly garnished with fresh celery, lime and olives but the flavor of the Bloody Mary mix was strange. It had a weird smoky flavor to it almost like barbecue sauce. The bartender did state that they just switched over to their own brands Bloody Mary mix. Just not my cup of tea. read more

Just ate breakfast here before our flight, suprising, but it was very good. Coffee was very good. We had breakfast wraps with tater tots. From a customer standpoint, a manager needs to stand at the bar and look behind the line, it's quite dirty, so are the floors. Coffee condiment station messy. Service was good. We'd eat here again. Oddly great food and big portions located in airport terminal. Had an excellent Cesar salad with lots of fresh parmesan cheese and tender chicken. We also ordered the wings-- taste was great but would recommend you order crispy if that's how you like them because they were not at all crispy without asking. read more

This was one of the worst eating experiences I've ever had. The staff was highly unprofessional staff. We had the most seemingly depressed waitress ever. Not once did she ask how our food was. Instead, she slammed boxes of silverware on the counter and talked to the cook. The cook stared at the patrons from the bar area (where he shouldn't have been) before going back to the kitchen and exposing low laying pants and green boxers. The food wasn't much better. My cheeseburger was thin, overcooked, unseasoned, and came on the hardest old bun I've ever had. The turkey sliders were literally small buns with one slice of turkey, one slice of tomato, one strip of bacon, and some avocado ($11). The parmesan tater tots tasted like the ones you'd find in the frozen food aisle except with a small amount of cheese sprinkled on top of a third of the tots ($6). The only thing this place has going for it is that it serves alcohol. Otherwise, avoid. read more

I was sold on this airport terminal restaurant based on the promise of "We use fresh, all-natural, local, farm-grown, sustainable products whenever possible." After ordering a Chicken Caesar Salad I'm pretty sure that's just marketing and factually not true. My "kale and romaine" salad had zero kale. The romaine seemed unwashed. The chicken tasted like McNugget "chicken" to which the waitress admitted it was from a frozen patty they grilled up from frozen. The croutons clearly came from a mass market mediocre bag or box. But the aged Parmesan cheese and Caesar dressing were both quite good. You might have better luck with one of their flat bread pizzas or burgers. But I'd instead suggest you just walk down the concourse at eat at Silks, a place the airport ambassadors (volunteers) initially recommended. I should have listened to them. read more

Was in a rush, didn't want McDonald's and I was flying Southwest. I ordered "The Cave" and when it arrived thought "this is one of the most sorry looking burgers I've seen." It was obviously a thawed, prepackaged burger. But then I noticed it was missing most of the toppings. When I pointed this out the waitress, she apologized, "Oh the kitchen just threw out the onions and mushrooms, but I can get you some bacon". Which she did, overcooked bacon at that. Horrible experience! My boyfriend and I sat unattended too for 15 minutes before I gave up and asked this middle aged blonde lady behind the bar that I'd like to order. She begrudgingly came to our table to take our order with a nasty attitude. When she left my boyfriend and I realized our flight was boarding so I told the waitress that we needed to cancel less than two minutes after ordering. Well, we walked off to our gate and the waitress ran after me and started shouting in my face that she was going to call the police on me for ordering food and walking out on her. I told her to get over it and to call the police and tried walking away and she kept following me and screaming in my face. This 50 something year old women had the maturity of a 2 year old. This is without a doubt one of the worst airport bars I have ever experienced. The key aspects being service... and service. It takes literally 20 min to be attended to, 30 min to serve a drink, an hour + to get your food. Meanwhile, the servers are not friendly, in the slightest. This operation needs to tighten up. Have eaten here before and it was good, so when passing through ALB airport en route home today I sat down and ordered the chicken Caesar salad, which I've had here before and it was good. Not today: the romaine lettuce was rotten and old. I sent it back, pointed out the rotten lettuce to the waiter, and ordered a flatbread pizza. The pizza was obviously previously frozen but decent enough and what I would expect for an airport semi-fast food kind of place. Service staff were very accommodating so my waiter deserves credit for that and he even knocked off a few bucks from the flatbread pizza bill - good customer service there! But what is going on in the kitchen? The cooks need to pay attention to the quality of the produce they're putting out. read more

I was just thinking how the Albany airport could really use a decent spot for food. So I was excited to see this new Local spot taking over the location near the Southwest terminal. The sign said to take a seat and a server would be over, but after 15 minutes no one came by. The tables didn't seem too busy, but the bar was full. Maybe they need some extra servers to help.
