Horrible bbq! Omg I'm from the south and this is probably the worst bbq I've ever had. The meat was fairly dry. The macaroni had cheddar cheese sprinkled on top (see photo). The slaw that came with the bbq was terrible too. The basil lemonade is refreshing. Goes well with gin. The aesthetics are nice but the quality of food is down right deceiving. The service we got from the waiter (Kyle) was great. He was so nice, but he recommended the Mac n Cheese . I would not recommend this place. I hope it gets better though. read more

I couldn't stop eating their macncheese yummy tubes of pasta w melted cheese-it was the "bomb". Ribs were tasty perfectly cooked w many barbecue sauces to choose from. I particularly liked their spicy version. Brisket was too fatty for my liking which was not very appetizing to stare at huge hunks of fat w little meat. We absolutely love Oak & Apple. We've tried the brisket, pulled pork and sausage. All of them were spectacular. What really stands out for us though are the sides; burnt end baked beans (best we've ever had), tea braised collards, and their cornbread is ridiculous. They also make an incredible chocolate peanut butter pie. If you're a bbq fan don't miss out on this RVA gem. read more

My family and don't eat pork so we got the angus beef brisket which was sooo good but portion was very small for $14 and no sides although they do give u a small amount of apple coslaw in a tiny ketchup looking container but flavor was on point.... And I got the pulled chicken which was $11 it ok flavor could've been better maybe I just got a bad batch but it was edible. And don't get me started on their Mac and cheese probably best Mac I've had but not traditional southern style more of a creamy one but was soooo delicious I could have that as just my meal. Wanted to try this place after work and had a terrible time. The customer service was absolutely terrible; had to hunt down the server multiple times and guy behind the bar was rude- food was average... When my check came out I was charged for a larger portion- I let the bartender know and suddenly I was being accused of trying to steal food.Guy behind bar claimed that they don't make mistakes and the problem was with us.. Got the brisket, red hot link, and smoked link for dinner. I thought the red hot was good, but definitely could've hotter. The smoked link was just ok. The brisket fell apart beautifully and was seasoned well, but was really salty. Service was good about average for a busy Friday. I'd go back but also don't care if I don't make it back. read more

I was seated outside which wasn't a problem since it was nice out. The waitress I had was very nice and attentive (blonde haired young lady). The other waitress dressed like a tramp. Her shorts were so short you could actually see her ass cheeks hanging out when she walked. Totally inappropriate for a place of business in my opinion. Now to the food. I ordered the 1/2 pound portion of beef brisket which was flavorful but absolutely had way too much fat on it. It would be safe to say that 1/4 of it was fat which I like a little bit of fat for flavor but they really need to trim their briskets better before they go in the smoker. The cornbread was perfect and so was the Mac n cheese. The collard greens were very flavorful. The cole slaw which was made with apple had a distinct bitter taste. A sample of that was included with the meat. All other sides were ala carte even the cornbread so it doesn't take long to rack up a huge bill when nothing is included with your meal. All in all I probably wouldn't come here again unless someone else was buying. You're better off going to mission bbq from a price point and BBQ just as good maybe even better. read more

The fritters with a jalapeño jelly or pimento cheese spread make an excellent appetizer, along with your favorite beer/cider/wine. We split a large order of ribs. The order was huge. Menu looked great and we were excited to eat here, unfortunately the horrible customer service forced us to leave before we even finished ordering. We had a large group of 14, with 4 children. The waitress did not ask for drink orders first and then proceeded to rudely and repeatedly state that we could not move from our spots otherwise she wouldn't be able to take our order. After having 5 min to look at the menu she took our food order and got upset that we were not all ready. She would not let half of our group order since she "had to order by table" and since 2 of us were not ready she couldn't take the rest orders. After hearing this we said no problem we could wait for them to order (given we only had 5 min to decide), and one of us jokingly said no one would die if we waited for them to order. The waitress took a huge offense to this for some reason and stormed off to the manager without saying anything. The manager came over, already having made judgement without hearing out side of the story and asked to speak with one of us separately regarding the comment. He accused us of being unnecessarily hostile without having asked us what happened. We tried to explain that the waitress had been equally if not more hostile and he refused to listen to us and kept defending her. So unfortunately after having paid for parking and all very hungry, including the children, we decided to leave. Without half of us even having ordered they very rudely sent us on our way. I came into town on business and was looking for a barbecue place that had dine in. I asked the server what she recommended. She suggested the smoked, grilled, and fried chicken wings. I ordered them with dry rub. The server brought me two sides of blue cheese dressing and some buffalo sauce. I also ordered the apple coleslaw and the local lager. Everything was excellent! The place is clean and comfortable. There was adequate social distancing and they had two televisions for watching sports. The price was very reasonable. I can see how parking might be a headache during busy times, even though they have their own parking lot, but we lucked out and got a spot a few steps from the front door on a Monday afternoon. The interior was more rustic than I expected, and a little chilly, but the food and service more than compensated. We had the Pick 3 platter with pulled pork, brisket, ribs, jalapeno slaw, mac 'n' cheese, beans and cornbread. All the meats were deliciously smoky and tender. The beans, slightly sweet and with a good dose of meat chunks, were the star of the sides. Or maybe it was the cornbread, also sweet and crumbly. My wife devoured a slice and she typically doesn't like cornbread. Marcus was our server, and he was extremely personable, efficient and knowledgeable.
