My sister gave rave reviews for this place after coming for the first time on Sunday 5/25/25 at about 12:00pm. She great compliments to the server, said he was very inviting, friendly, and checked on her table often. The food she brought home was DELICIOUS and very nicely portioned. He gave them details about the menu, kept their drinks full, and was overall a great experience maker. This coupled with the great tasting food and decent portion size convinced me to come out and get a bite. I wish I hadn't. My sister, cousin, and I all came out 5 nights later (5/30/25) ready for some excellent bbq, stellar service, and supposed great music. We had NONE of that. When we entered the building, we saw a group of about 6-8 staff sitting in a circle hanging out; this would not be a problem had they not kept turning around, looking over at us laughing, and then turning back around to ignore us. We waited about a minute at the host stand before someone came over to greet us and get us a table, this was the best service we received the entire night. After being sat and looking over the menu a server with mostly blond hair, big pink bow in the, a mole and bonkers lip fillers, came over to get our orders. No introduction and no greeting, just straight to "what can I get started for you". Should have known from that we should have just left but I wanted to believe the food would be worth it. So she takes our orders, brings our drinks and does not return until she brings out our food and when she does everybody, including herself, looks flabbergasted. First off, the portions were nowhere near as advertised or similar to my sisters previous visit from just 5 days prior. They put her Mac n cheese in a to- go cup when they had previously put it in a hot, sizzling skillet. The Mac wasn't the only cold thing either; the pho that cost my cousin 17 dollars, and advertised as big enough for two people by the server,was in an appetizer sized bowl and was lukewarm at best, she had to ask for it to warmed up. When she brought it back out the plate that held to bowl of pho, was dirty. My sisters and my 1/2 pound brisket and tri-tip was also under a pound cut into small, tough slices. The brisket focaccia was brought out cold and the brisket sandwich was half empty. The parts of the sandwich that weren't empty were filled with hard-ass burnt, dry brisket pieces. We ate a bit and then waited for our server, about 10-15 feet away at the bar in full view of us, to check in with us. She didn't. It seemed like she was actively avoiding looking over at us and my cousin ended up yelling over to ask for the check and some boxes after about 5 minutes of waiting. We then waited about 7 more minutes for them to come and get the check but she was busy making drinks for her coworkers sitting at the bar. After waiting for a bit more time I just grabbed the check and walked over to pay, she didn't look over at me just made conversation with the host who was asking about the drinks. He finally looked over at me, asked if he could help me and told I wanted to pay and leave. While he rung me up, the frumpy employee sitting on the bar stool behind him started staring me down, so rude and nasty, so stared her back the same way. He gave me my receipt, I signed zero tip, he looked annoyed, I told him have good night, grabbed my overpriced and underwhelming leftovers, and we left. read more

I am thoroughly impressed with this place! My coworkers and I came during lunch and it was the perfect place--wonderful service, delicious fusion food, and all at a great price. I loved the brisket birria tacos with any of their sides and the fixins. We got sides of Thai peanut pasta salad, Brussels sprouts, and tzatziki potato salad and oh my gosh. First, this isn't a food review. Sorry. This is a service, or lack thereof review. Normally if I have a bad experience in a restaurant (which is rare), especially a "mom/pop" or even a small chain, I don't write a review - I just never return. Best to just leave them be. I figure that's the best way to express my displeasure without crashing out their business. I'm aware this isn't the course most people take, but it's mine. However, with this review, I'm going to make an exception. Having said that, then, you can imagine there are no words to actually describe how... what's a good word... upset I was. First, lemme say I love BBQ. I've driven miles to get good "Q" and have no problem doing so. As such, I've never been to Oak and Ember BBQ, but I've heard good things about it and was looking forward to trying it. When we arrived for lunch a couple were standing in the waiting area. The restaurant wasn't crowded. The bartender several times glanced in our direction but continued doing his "bartending" to no one in particular. No worries I thought. Several minutes go by and we're still waiting for someone to greet us. Nothing. Out of curiosity, I asked the other couple how long they were waiting. "We walked in about five minutes before you did," was the response. I looked for the bartender who I saw had stopped by a nearby table and appeared to be taking their order. When he was done, he returned to the bartending area. Wow. Not even a "circle around" to say someone will be with you. A few moments later, a waitress appeared from the back carrying glasses of water. She neither acknowledged us or the other couple. They had enough and started to leave. I was irritated as well. As she finally made her way toward us, I stopped her and said loudly, "That's ok. We're leaving." I can't comment on their BBQ, considering the complete lack of service, I won't ever. You would think given the number of restaurant options in the area, that customer service would be an important point of emphasis for a restaurant and their staff. Especially a BBQ joint. Apparently not here. Now before anyone thinks, "maybe they were short of staff." Yes I thought about that as well, which is why we continued to wait. However, the "failure" to even acknowledge that we or the other couple had entered was blatant. If staff is that uninspired to greet a customer, simply with a "I see you" hand wave or a "gimme a minute" gesture, then getting to the food isn't important enough to try. Can't review much and I will add a full review on the food when I return. My short story goes like this...came here on a Saturday evening around 7:15pm. We walked in and waited 10min for someone to put my name in the hat for a table. Around 7:30pm the hostess asked if we had a reservation. Ugh. No we did not. She then proceeded to say, she is not taking anymore reservations they were fully booked for the night. You could have told us 10min ago miss! She also said something I have not heard before- she said they are running out of food as well. Were they running out of brisket or baby back ribs? Not sure, but At 7:30pm on a Saturday!?? Haha. Got excited to try a new BBQ place while visiting family. This menu has tri-tip so I was hyped. Menu has a variety of various BBQ dishes with international twist such as Tzatziki Potato Salad or Tri Tip Tacos. The food did not live up to the hype. While the Tri Tip was tender it did not come with BBQ which I found very strange. We ordered a bunch of apps and the best one was the Smoked Brisket Focaccia. The O&E Potato Dip lacked flavor but the blue tortilla chips were good. Members of my party did like the Ember burger that was supposed to have a jalapeño topping on top but couldn't find it. Service was okay. The staff were nice but the timing of the food was off. Our last entree came out after 20 minutes of getting the first one. Worst part it was for the birthday boy. I could also hear the tables around us try order items but they were already sold out two hours after opening. There is outdoor seating which is nice and is used for the All You Can Eat Brunch. Overall the meal was okay with friendly service. I wouldn't really consider this a bbq restaurant rather a restaurant that serves some bbq items. read more

I took my dad to Oak & Ember for his birthday because he and I have been on a mission to try BBQ spots near and far. This place is about a 30-minute drive for us, but we definitely wanted to give it a shot. My dad ordered the ribs, and my partner and I ordered the tri-tip and brisket so we could split everything and try both. For sides, we went with the fries and mac & cheese. Ribs: My dad gave them a solid 10/10. He loved them. Brisket: I personally give it a 6/10--the flavor was on point, really delicious, but the texture wasn't my favorite. It was a bit dry and too chewy for me, and I needed BBQ sauce to help it along. My partner thought differently and gave it an 8/10, saying he thought it was good and didn't mind the dryness. Tri-Tip: I'd rate it an 8/10. Slightly dry as well, but great flavor and definitely easier to chew than the brisket. My partner agreed and gave it the same score. Mac & Cheese: Really good! Creamy, flavorful, and topped with little cracker crumbs that added a nice texture. Fries: Seasoned well with parmesan and what looked like parsley. They're on the thinner side--I personally prefer thicker fries--but they were still tasty. Service: Service was okay. It was busy, so I get it, but it took about 25-30 minutes from the moment we sat down to when someone actually took our order. Once the order was placed though, the food came out faster than it took for the order to be taken, so that helped make up for the wait. Great Vibe, But Service Missed the Mark. I had mixed feelings about my visit to Oak & Ember BBQ in Ontario. The restaurant itself has a really cool Roaring 20's vibe--beautifully decorated and definitely sets a nice atmosphere. Our waiter was kind and friendly, which I appreciated, but unfortunately the overall service really fell short. We waited about 30 minutes just to be told they had run out of beef ribs, which was disappointing since that's one of the main items you'd expect from a BBQ spot. My drink also wasn't made correctly and didn't taste good at all, which added to the frustration. We did try the cheese dip, and that was actually really good--but it came with a very small portion of chips (literally about two handfuls), so that was a bit of a letdown. I'd definitely recommend making a reservation if you plan to go, as it seems like they may struggle to keep up during busy times. This place is okay. Food is good! Drinks are okay. Service is terrible. Let's start with food - 4.5. I went during HH and got the wings, corn dip, and cornbread - all tasty! Drinks - 3.5. They taste good/decent, but almost like they're premixed. I didn't pay close attention at the bar, but someone pointed out that they had a keg like feature for pouring drinks. If I asked for a drink on the menu but with a different liquor (vodka in place id tequila), they seemed to try to talk me out of it by saying it would cost more. By the third round, I said, that's fine. And I liked my drink! Service - 1.5. This is the BIGGEST miss. Place has potential but the bartenders are novices. In the time we were there, two bartenders ended up working the bar. Neither bartender shared the specials for HH or the day (I had to asked the bartender for the HH deals and had the hostess not informed me of their TH special for margaritas and beer, I would've never known as there is no mention of daily specials anywhere!). Aside from that, the bartenders seemed to take great care of their "regulars", but treated newbies like whatever. Not even standard customer service. At one point I tired to flag a bartender down for a straw, and I know he saw me, but he continued past to ask another patron for their drink order. It wasn't until he forced me to be obnoxious about my request, which I hate doing, that I finally got an acknowledgment. I think the owners should understand their bar and staff make a big difference in experience. Even with pre made (tasty) drinks, you can get away with it since the food is good and IF service was good. Bartenders need more training! read more
