"Whatever in the world occasioned such a blisteringly negative review?" Here's the short version. Oakley Relocation/North American managed to totally destroy several of our bookcases, lost items, trashed several pieces of valuable mid-century teak furniture which has greatly reduced its value, gouged the hardwood floor in our brand new home while bringing in furniture, packed household appliances incorrectly so they leaked oil and worst of all, placed a wheelbarrow on the tops of a pair of extremely valuable Klipschorn speakers. Our move took place in October 2013. We've been fighting with SIRVA, North American's spin off company that deals with damages, for the last six months. In our opinion, SIRVA's employees' appalling lack of customer service skills is just the tip of the iceberg. It appears to us that their mission is to avoid paying any claim if at all possible. Please remember that it took six months of almost constant fighting with them for us to finally conclude that SIRVA fulfilled their mission; we received horrible service and were not reimbursed properly for our losses. Be aware that, in our experience, they will put up every roadblock imaginable to satisfy their mission of completely alienating their customers. And, in the case of furniture, after comparing their repair allowances to the charges from firms specializing in antique repair, it's clear that they are low-balling their customers. BOTTOM LINE... OUR ADVICE IS TO ABANDON ALL HOPE OF A SMOOTH, PROFESSIONAL, DAMAGE FREE MOVE SHOULD YOU DECIDE TO WORK WITH OAKLEY STORAGE AND RELOCATION AND NORTH AMERICAN VAN LINES. read more

We found Oakley Relocation through American Van Lines and are more than satisfied with the service from start to end. Originally we were going to move with another company but things fell through due to shady pricing/business so we only had a week and a day to figure things out which was very stressful. We called AMV and they got us in contact with a gentleman from Oakley named Nick. Nick literally got us an appointment to view and property and price the move the next day. He came in, was very professional and quoted us a great price for a California to NC small move. Not only did Nick get us squared away fast he was able to secure a date in perfect timing to when we needed to be out of our home. He was very hands on and even worked with us and made sure pickup timing was convenient for us which really eased the stress we had. He secured us an amazing driver surprisingly fast and the days leading up to pickup Nick communicated very well and made sure we knew we were in good hands. The day of pickup our driver Aaron and his crew loaded us within 30 mins. Aaron took only 7 days to get to us which was pretty darn impressive because he had 13 other stops to make. Upon delivery once again Aaron was very professional, super nice and made sure we received all of our items which we did. The unloading process was very strategic, organized and Aaron closed us out successfully. There were also no hidden fees throughout the process which was great to see. After everything Nick even followed up to make sure we received our load and there were no issues. Overall the entire hiring/pickup process took only 6 days and the delivery timeline took 7 Days from CalI to NC. I would not recommend doing a cross country move on short notice, but if things happen to fall through like ours did you can trust Oakley. Matter of fact just choose Oakley in the first place. Having lived in our home for 30 years we recently decided to relocate from California to Colorado. Despite a lot of purging prior, the thought of moving all our worldly possessions that distance was daunting but it ended up a great experience thanks to our driver, the professional and experienced Stefan Meeder. When he arrived in the large NorthAmerican Van Lines truck, he guided us expertly with what we needed to do on the day of loading while keeping the conversation lively and therefore making the day remarkably stress-free. A few pieces of our furniture needed to be disassembled which Steven did and everything was protected in wrapping blankets and plastic wrap. His well established relationship with the loaders was evident as we watched a well oiled machine place our belongings into the trailer with the precision of professional Tetris moves. They were amazing! Even our dog Sterling approved! We were kept up to date regarding the status of our off-load date and that day was flawless as well. Stefan reassembled the furniture as the off loaders placed all items in the location of our preference. We were initially hesitant to hire a large moving company due to expense however, what could have been a nightmare with the attempt of moving ourselves was well worth every penny spent. Surprisingly, it wasn't as expensive as we thought thanks to the accuracy of the estimator that came to our home prior to our move. Not a single item was damaged. If you are looking for a relocation company look no further. We moved from CA to MS and had nothing but the best service ever! Brandon our driver who was amazing went over and above the call of duty to make our move easy. How he ever got that insanely massive truck up to our home in CA is beyond me but he did and the crew he brought with him was amazing. Not one knick, scratch, ding on anything, they worked like dogs and were so nice and polite. Brandon stayed in touch with us the entire trip and was here a day early in MS. Again the crew he had here in MS was amazing, brand new house and not a single mark on floors or any walls. Only two small things broken in the entire move and that was a glass and a snow globe which was my responsibility to pack. I would say the only thing I would do different would be to have someone come and look at the house, I underestimated what I had by a lot and needed a lot more packing crates than I thought and my weight was way more but again this was my error, but again I would insist that a rep come and walk the house to make sure you are on target with costs and weight. Traci was a tremendous help in securing our move and we ever (GOD PLEASE NO) move again I would use them again! I do have to say that if it were not for Brandon our driver I am not sure I would have made it through this move he was great and offered so much assistance!!!!!! We planned months ahead for our move from La Quinta to Tucson. We interviewed Trevor of Oakley and several other candidates, including a local firm which required a ridiculous 50% up-front deposit on a $14,000 moving bill! Can't be too careful whom you deal with. We were rewarded with the terrific team at Oakley, which carried our move off very smoothly. We decided it was too much for us to pack up our belongings, so we paid Oakley (a rep of North American Van Lines/Alled Van Lines) to do that for us. Tyler and his incredible crew of four men arrived as promised and packed up over 240 boxes in just one day! Well done! Two days later, Rich (the driver) and his 5-man loading crew arrived and got our 3,000-square-foot house loaded onto the van in one day, with time to spare. We got the feeling the whole time they were taking personal care of our goods. Generous tips were justified, as with the packing crew. About a week later, as planned (we needed time to clean up the LQ house), Rich and his unloading crew arrived in Tucson on schedule (half an hour early, actually), and whizzed our goods off the truck in just six hours. A very smooth operation! At this time, we have found no damage to any of our goods. We were extremely pleased with their work and would heartily recommend them. Let me say my wife and I are VERY picky when it comes to customer service. We had heard all the horror stories about cross country moves that frankly had us skeptical about who to go with for our move from CA to VA. And then Alex Hunter showed up at our door. She showed up on time, in uniform, with a smile on her face. She was not rushed, took her time doing a very thorough quote and presented us with customer references on the kind of service we would receive. NONE of the other companies did this. She won our business! The day of the move three very nice gentlemen showed up with smiles on their faces and packed us up with ZERO issues. Casey, our driver marked each item, told us all the details of our move and gave us an exact ETA on when we could receive delivery. He was spot on. I was so happy with how easy Tracy McCormick made scheduling our move from California to Wisconsin. Just took a tour of our home on my iPad with her telling her what was going and how many boxes. I even called her and added a couple things that I decided I wanted to take. She had a quote to me very quickly that included everything. There were no surprise add ons that I heard can happen with moving companies. I called Tracy a couple times with questions. I did not even have to explain who I was and about my move, she know me. This gave me a lot of confidence in the company. The mover Matt Delvin and his crew arrived on time. They were courteous and careful with my things. The few items that I did have them pack were very professionally packed and arrived in perfect condition. My daughter's father-in-law and our good friend for over 40 years unfortunately passed away while our things were in route and were supposed to be delivered the same day as his funeral. I called Matt. He had given me his cell phone number. We were able to make arrangements so we could attend the funeral and then meet Matt at our home so he could deliver our things. I am forever grateful to him. Everything was delivered and in as good of condition as when it left our home in California. My wife and I chose to relocate to Georgia to retire. Not knowing anything about moving companies, their costs or service, I was lucky enough to make Oakley Relocation my first call. I did not need to call any others after talking to Traci. She was extremely informative and turned out to be more attentive to our needs than I ever thought possible. Between me changing our inventory (multiple times) and having every question possible, she never changed her service oriented personality. This is my 33rd move (I think) in my lifetime -- so it's a process that I understand, at least to some degree. We had made the decision to leave the state of CA and move to Kingman, AZ. The move is complicated in that we needed to initially move a few things to one location and put the majority of our belongings in storage. The items in storage will be moved at some point in the future. Our first contact was Kip. He was outstanding in doing the estimate and terrific in keeping the lines of communication open as we moved closer to the actual move date. Jerilyn in the office was also wonderful to work with. She was quick to respond to questions and accurate with the paperwork. The day of the move arrived. The moving crew arrived -- Tyler and his band of "Merry Men". We had 8 movers working like crazy for 3 days to get us packed up, (it isn't a small job), and sorted between storage and immediate delivery. It was organized chaos, to be sure. But, the team did a fantastic job. All of them worked together. They didn't damage the home we were selling and left the house fairly clean and free of debris. So, as anyone who has ever moved knows, the last thing you want to do amid such a stressful process is take time out to write a review. But I really just had to, given the exemplary service provided to me by Ashley and (pictured from left to right) Lewis, Tyler, and Joey of Oakley Relocation. First of all, Ashley was very up front in providing me with estimates and dispelling some of the extreme and contradictory feedback I got when researching movers. Before he arrived at my home initially, I was in near meltdown mode from confusion! I just felt immediately comfortable that I could trust him and Oakley. Then, on the day of my move, Tyler called me with an estimated time of arrival, and the team showed up on the dot. They were so friendly and professional that, again, I felt immediately comfortable. And they were very complimentary regarding how organized I was... leading me to an immediate Pashmina toss! (Shout out to my friend Eileen, for the saying, and to my real estate agent, Trent St. Louis, for the mad box taping and stacking help!) The entire Oakley relocation team hit a grand slam home run for our move from Rancho Mirage to the Denver, CO area! Kip returned my initial phone call immediately when I inquired about our move and provided an estimate within a day. Our timeline was quite tight and they ensured me they could accommodate us on such short notice (less than a week's notice!). From start to finish, Jerilyn organized, coordinated and followed-up on every aspect of the move. If I had any questions, she responded immediately. I sold my home in San Marcos, and I needed to store my furniture for a few months while I found and purchased a home here in Palm Desert. I called Eckert Movers in San Marcos because I had used them before. They hooked me up with Alex at Oakley Relocation (a woman-owned company, which I liked very much), and Alex came out and gave me an estimate of what the cost would be to pack-up, store and then deliver to me when I moved into my new home. Alex arrived on time for our appointment and was a very sweet lady and a gem to work with. In the office I dealt with Jerilyn, and she was also very friendly and helpful during the few months that they stored my furniture in their warehouse. Both Alex and Jerilyn always answered my emails promptly so that I was well informed as the process went along. They worked with me on the timing, since the escrow closings can be so unpredictable. From start to finish, everyone was awesome! Ashley met us for a quote and was very personable and professional. We were in a bind due to time but they were more than willing to work with us thankfully moving day could not have gone smoother, it was insanely hot this time of year and the guys ( Lewis, Oscar and Mike) were amazing!!! Moving is stressful as we know but the guys took the edge off with jokes and awesome attitudes we were a bit under prepared so Oscar had to do alot of dish wrapping and frame packing but did it with speed and ease, i even stopped to thank him for taking particular care individually wrapping the pieces of my US Citizenship shadow box which arrived in perfect shape!. These guys worked through a long hot day but never stopped smiling. Mike and Lewis were always there with a quick whitted joke to keep us going. Omg were they tough! Third floor with huge heavy boxes and furniture to carry, seemed like no big deal. Oscar even carried a long tv stand up by himself with precision and not a scratch! I recently moved 1300 miles away from my longtime home. I went to Oakley Relocation for a competitive bid. Ashley was professional and knowledgeable and very informative about the process. He reviewed our residence and provided a bid that was $1000 lower than others. His team of packers made everything easy. Zane, Joey and Tyler packed every single item we had, the following day movers loaded and headed towards my new home. Although they are enabled to have between 5 and 12 days, Driver Eddie called me 3 days after the move began and let me know that he could have my belongings at my new home in just 7 days. Not one thing was missing, damaged or harmed in any way. Their packing job was extraordinary, orderly and well labeled, enabling me to find and unpack in as much order as is possible in this process. I wish to thank Alfonso Medrano, and his team, Frank, Johnathan, and Rudy with North American/Oakley Relocation in San Marcos. They were 15 minutes early, came prepared with plenty of packing material and special shipping boxes. Liberal use of tape and packing material was a welcome sight. They had 4 (heavy) glass-top tables to deal with. Each and every glass-top was individuality shock-wrapped and boxed. I even had a 1920's vanity Dresser & mirror (LIKE REALLY BULKY and HEAVY). The Mirror was removed with great care and again double wrapped and boxed, and the dresser was wrapped tighter and more secure than King Tut! Tables, beds, lamps, bike and fans all met with similar storage care. Each and every item was cataloged and marked with ID stickers and Alfonso made an accurate manifest/list for me to send to my Son. They were ON TIME, fast, careful, and treated every item better than I probably would. LOVE IT! We relocated from San Diego to Florida 5 days ago. Our household goods are scheduled to be here in 2 days. The estimator, John Nijaro, was the consummate professional and was extremely thorough in going through all of our belongings and explaining how each item needed to be packed properly (We did a significant amount of the packing ourselves). John even came to our condo on his own time 2 days before the moving team to assist us with packing some very large but delicate items. On a scale of 1-10, John is off the charts. Id cheat and give him an 11. The moving team, led by Mike and Chad was so fantastic- polite, professional, so easy and pleasant to work with- I'd rate the moving team a perfect 10. Their pricing for moving our things cross country was quite reasonable. I'd like to give a shout out to Traci McCormick from Oakley Relocation as well. I still have yet to unpack a number of boxes and crates, but thus far they seem to have truly outperformed, exceeding every expectation. This was a big interstate move for us, and they really helped reduce the stress. Traci J. provided great customer service, clearly explaining the process and pricing. With other national carriers I was either unable to get a clear sense of the final cost or was provided a quote that included hefty penalties as part of the pricing. I got to the clear impression that I was getting lowballed on the quote so that I would ultimately face a huge penalty for exceeding size or weight. Traci, on the other hand, eliminated all of the confusion and provided great advice and suggestions.
