I had a great experience with Oakmont Auto Repair this week. Unfortunately, I needed some significant suspension work done on my Toyota Sienna. I scheduled the work with James because he does quality work and always acts with integrity. I dropped the car off on Wednesday and was hoping to get it back so that I could use it on Thursday for work. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, the car was not ready by the end of the day. James was very communicative, he was understanding and apologized for the inconvenience. He offered to get the car to me that day and I could bring it another day; he also offered a loaner car if needed. When the work was complete, James delivered the car to my house. Dropped car to James to get stupid device recalibrated (Don't drink & drive). Wasn't able to pick it up due to not being able to walk (horrible lupus flare up). Had someone go pick my keys up & hoped I could pick it up later. Him & my mother worked something out while she was there picking up the keys for me. Next thing I know James offered to drop MY CAR off to me at HOME (in Antioch) so things would be easier. I legit shed some tears bc that was soooooo nice of him to do. James & staff are GREAT. Simply put, this place deserves zero stars. James comes off nice enough, but the true issue is that they couldn't fix my car after NUMEROUS attempts. Said the problem was electric with the wiring for the transmission. They said they fixed it, I took the car back and the next day the same problems would occur. This also took longer than anticipated as they had numerous things going on at the shop, so it was delayed and not properly fixed. I had the car taken back in to fix again as they said it was a sensor issue with the wiring in my car. Took longer than anticipated just like last time. James said he wanted to fix it "as this one is for pride now". Once I had car back, same problems occurred except even more lights went on in my car, showing it was a clear wiring issue (a car cannot hydroplane when there's no water on the road, so that warning light made it obvious). Asked for a partial refund which they did do (when my car was able to actually be driven). Then as my car took a turn for the worse and can now no longer accelerate at all, they refuse to acknowledge any problem. My buddy who runs an auto shop told me it was the torque converter as there isn't enough electricity flowing through the car because of the wiring. Oakmont auto only worked on the wiring, therefore one can logically say they made the situation far worse Long story short, this auto shop actually made my car worse off than when I brought it in as I could still drive it. Now I have a very expensive paper weight and am out $900+. As I called back asking for a full refund, James simply said "this was a preexisting problem so we are not responsible". FAIR ENOUGH. If you want to take your car in to a spot that will delay repair, as well as not fix your car and not hold themselves accountable, this is the place for you! read more

Oakmont Auto Care is truly a stellar small owner business, run by a very well-informed, ethical individual - James. I've been going to this shop for all my car work (oil changes, maintenance, etc), for the last 2 or so years. There isn't one thing that James and the team are not transparent about. Chatting with James about cars, running a business, etc. is an incredibly educational experience. I am just amazed at the level of maturity that James conducts himself with. For being such a young individual, he's definitely outdone many that I know who are much older. A young guy who provides well-paid employment opportunities, and benefits to deserving folks (he invests in their training too!). All of this with zero compromises on the quality of work delivered. Zero stars. Had a buyer ask me to come here to do a pre-purchase inspection. Everything started off well until I went to pick up the car. The guy who runs the shop couldn't be bothered to answer any of my questions or give me a list of issues he found. Basically shooed me away after I waited nearly 5 hours for what was likely a 20 min inspection. I quickly figured out the buyer likely told him not to give me any info since he declined to buy the car after the inspection and was trying to have me pay for the inspection details. BS move by the shop to keep the details from the OWNER of the car. Do not recommend giving business to someone like this. What could he be hiding about your car?! Be warned! read more

We had a total girls day out hiccup with one of us discovering that the cover to the undercarriage of her SUV was dragging on the ground. Thank goodness we figured out the issue before getting back on the freeway. We checked on yelp for a repair shop near us, and Oakmont was really close. I called and let James know the issue and he said they could def help. I also asked how long would it take since today is still supposed to be girls day out and you know, priorities...lol. We carefully made our way to Oakmore, pulled up all concerned about the time and effort and (audacity of the car to have an issue on our girls day out!) We pulled forward to a parking spot, and James greeted us ready to rock! He took a peek under the car and let us know there was no salvaging, but it could be easily pulled out. He went and grabbed a carjack, a couple tugs, and voila!...we were on our way back on schedule for girls day out! Thank you James...truly! James, while I appreciate your response, I'm not disappointed by your explanation so much as I don't think my concerns were heard. I expressed not wanting to pursue *extensive* diagnostics due to just having spent thousands in repairs and the likelihood that I won't be driving this car much longer. I am certainly sensitive to the environmental impact that Freon can have on the ozone, however I failed to mention in my previous update that the auto shop back home DID leak test my system. They have done a lot of work on my car and I am always transparent about my car history so as not to mislead the mechanics. They did inform me of a small leak (which to my surprise, they repaired at no additional cost) before they recharged the system. So my grand total from that shop for the leak test, small repair, and recharge was $160. While I definitely would have been happy to pay another $100 or so for that labor, I don't think the $430 price tag (for just the leak testing) you offered me was fair. That would not have included the cost to fix the leak, either. It turns out that my car's AC compressor is no longer working correctly, and in my car, the cost to fix this is about $1,000; $720 for the part and $225 for the labor. This is what I was quoted at my shop back home. It doesn't add up to me that the price of labor to fix the entire compressor at my shop back home is less than the labor cost to just leak test the vehicle at your shop. Not to mention, my shop back home did not charge me to leak test, nor did they charge me to diagnose the faulty compressor. They were willing to hear me out and seemed to really understand my goals. I didn't have to question pricing with them at all, they didn't even bring up charging me for diagnostics. I really wanted to work with you - as I've said, you have a smart team of mechanics and I was previously happy with the service - but last time it felt like I was quickly shut down and was told I couldn't be helped for less than $430. I understand you can't always just look at a car and tell what's wrong with it. I'm not knocking the necessity of diagnostics and testing, but the price felt wrong to me. And, who knows what the next estimate would have been once the problem was found. Thanks again. read more

We went through a few mechanics that also had high ratings on yelp, but none of them were a great fit--long waits to get in, unreliable service, not being able to figure things out, etc. My first experience with James at Oakmont Auto Care was entirely different. He was able to get me in next day (a Saturday!) for an oil change, and when I told him not to worry about the check engine light (which had been going on and off and had stumped a couple mechanics), James did a complementary reading and told me a few potential things that could be driving the issue. We tried the cheapest option that could fix it, and I haven't had the check engine light on sense then. My car recently had more issues, and it was so nice to know I had a mechanic I trusted who I could bring my car to. Just as last time, James was able to get me in quickly, explained things clearly, and gave me a fair price (for an issue that's just expensive no matter which way you cut it).
