Such a disappointment. I live off of wm cannon and mopac and do not venture south to slaughter and mopac often. Hahaha I miss north x northwest if that helps give you perspective on how often we visit this area. So tonight we decided to drive south and see what was new and were excited to see what took over the space! But oh my, how disappointing. Checked in for a table even though there was no line. We asked for inside seating and were told about 20 minutes so we decided to wait at the nice bar. 20 minutes later one of the hostesses comes and tries to seat us right behind where we were waiting for 20 minutes! Literally stand up turn around, take two steps and sit down. Mind you wr asked to be seated in the dining area when we arrived! We calmly declined and say we mind as well order at the bar where we are at already. We quickly place an order and nearly 30 minutes later we get served our burgers. Fries were tasty but the truffles fries were a disappointment. I ordered the black bean burger which was salty. I have never had a salty black bean burger so that was a new experience. The cheeseburger was just alright so half of it was sent back as my dining companion was over it. The bartendress was a professional. Aside from that, this place was a major letdown. We are never coming back. So if you are thinking of a quick burger and beer this is not the place for you. Did I mention it was not even packed? Smh come on south austin. You deserve better. Vote with your pocket book and try somewhere else. I suppose the children's play area gives a business the latitude to suck at food and service. But, I don't think that's fair either. I love this place except for the fact they are neglecting too much on the comfort side.... The gas heaters on the patio have not been working in forever, pay or fix that so it stays warm back there please. All of the TVs suck, most don't work and the ones that do have dots across the screen. Fix all of them please so we can enjoy your entire facilities. read more

What went well: We made reservations at Oasthouse for a Saturday night and were shown promptly to our table when we arrived. We each ordered a drink and the drinks were good and the restaurant was comfortable. The fried cheese appetizer was the best food we ordered. What did not go well: First, we waited quite a bit of time between ordering drinks and being able to order food ~10 minutes. Then, once ordered our entrees came about 40 minutes later. So, this was already nearly an hour after arriving at this point. Our waiter seemed to have our whole area AND the outside patio area and I don't fault him but we went probably 30 minutes without anyone checking on us. Good thing I had water before leaving the house.. Our food arrived and my wife's pasta was missing the added chicken and it took me flagging a waiter from another table and the only solution offered was to remove it from the ticket. I ordered my burger medium and it arrived well done. I then had to flag another waiter down to get rung up and at that point our original waiter showed up. Overall, I probably won't be back to Oasthouse. This wasn't a good experience and the food did not match up with the wait or the price asked for it given the level of service and the lack of attention in the kitchen. Our waiter was very apologetic but I put no blame at his feet for being ridiculously overtasked with tables. I put the issues at the management and kitchen level. read more

The place was nice, I had the meatloaf and it was amazing but the portion was very small for the price. It was a piece of meatloaf on top of some mash potatoes. I think maybe if it came with salad it would be a good solid meal but it was just lacking something. Again the taste of the meatloaf was great just didn't fill me up for the price. The appetizer was also lacking. I got the peppers. I was expecting like. Poppers or stuffed peppers but it was just a tray of cooked peppers with season on them and some sauce. The sauce was good but wrap them peppers in some bacon or something, put some cheese in em. So with the pros and cons gave it 2 stars because I didn't love it and I didn't hate it. So, the food was mediocre at best and totally overpriced, but the response from the business owner is even worse than the food they served us. If this business owner thinks that the product they put on the plate and our table is of the "highest quality" and charging more accurate prices for what they serve would "compromise the integrity of their food" then I have to question if this business owner has ever been to a good, well run restaurant that actually puts a quality product on the table. She says we should have told her so they could make it right. What were they going to do, all of a sudden add more meat to the sandwich, bring us a respectable order of fries that didn't seem like they had been sitting under a warmer, say "oh yeah, our mac and cheese portion is ridiculously small for the price"? COME ON!!! What a sorry attempt to turn a poor experience around on the customer, like it is the customer's fault that we are aware enough and experienced enough to know what sub par quality and value we are receiving SMH. Upon arrival, the host told us there would would be a 30 min wait for the patio. We asked if we could sit on the patio and have a drink while we wait. While we waited at our small two top bar table, we noticed there were 5 other 4 top tables opened and cleaned. We asked the female server in our section if she could please ask the host if we could have one of of the open tables, she told us no because they have rotate tables for servers but she would ask. She came back from talking to the host to relay the same. We asked if we could order a drink at the small two top while we were on the patio from same server while we waited, there was a long answer in why we couldn't, was told no we would have to go inside to the bar. We tried using the QR code on the table from the little tent, it told us we could order a drink, there were limited drinks on this menu we didn't want. I then go inside to the bar and ask for two drinks. The bartenders disposition was the same as the server, not very nice and direct. I asked if I could order an appetizer for our two top, he said no bc it would be like dinner service. A couple and their child walk up next to me asking if they could sit at the bar, they stated there was a 30 min wait for the patio as well. I look around, this is not a packed restaurant. The bartender very frankly tells him no, any one under 21 is not allowed to sit at the bar. I looked at the couple and said, "there are a lot of rules here." They agreed. I discussed with the strangers understanding why kids couldn't sit at the bar for TABC reasons but there was no alternative options offered by the bartender. I said loudly "I would be writing a review". By the time I got back outside with our drinks, my friend had a table (there was still 5 other open tables on the patio). About 30 mins into our meal, the Mgr came over and asked if there was anything she could do for us. She looked visibly upset or angry. It seemed the bar personnel had told her what happened. I explained to her our experience. Bri was not sympathetic or kind, you could tell she was just trying to get through the conversation but was visibly angry. Her attitude made us even more turned off by the restaurant. We realized then the other employees training is likely due to managements disposition. She offered to buy us two drinks. We accepted. Overall the signature drinks we purchased were not great, the anche drink tasted like a watered down Bloody Mary. My friends and I are margarita connoisseurs. The other agave drink was not tasty either, both $11 drinks. The food was pretty good and the playground is lovely for the kids. These two things are the saving grace for this restaurant. I met some friends for lunch/brunch on a Friday. We had the pretzel for an appetizer, nice coloring and very soft. Our waiter addressed us all as "friend", which seemed weird. I've been to the Slaughter Ln location twice. The first time was for my birthday, so I didn't see the charges on the bill. The majority of the food was good (my son doesn't like Ruebens, but he liked the Reuben appetizer they had). They even gave me a card signed personally by the staff along with a $10 gift card which was really nice! My issue & the reason I'm giving 2 stars is this time I paid & I was totally shocked at the prices of the drinks! The dinners are reasonably prices (mostly in the $17-$20 range); however, my son had a Manhattan & I had a Mule but with Don Julio Tequila instead of vodka ... his drink was $20 & my drink was $28! Now I know why the prices are not listed on the drink menu. I have never been to a restaurant where the drinks cost as much as if not more than the dinner meals! This was our first visit to Oasthouse. Kudos all around. Having no idea they had a north locating, we accidentally made a resy their instead of South. The door host immediately indicated no problem. She summoned Manager Johnny who accommodated us with 2 minutes. He also called the North location as well to notify them. Atmosphere was relaxed and not stuffy. Menu was broad and appealing. I had grilled Brussels and calamari off appetizer menu and my bride had Reuben. All were reasonably priced and excellent. Wait staff Cameron was spot on with service and Johnny checked on us as a courtesy. Well done! Easy to recommend Oasthouse and we will be back. read more

We decided to try this place. We ordered the Chicken Schnitzle and the Reuben sandwich. I asked if it was really schnitzel or if was it a chicken fried chicken. The server assured me it was a schnitzel with homemade spaetzle. They brought it out and I was not surprised to see a chicken fried chicken. The spaetzle was dried and not edible. When the server came back and asked what it was I said it was not very good and whatever they were calling spaetzle was not. She said yea sometimes they fry it and sometimes they boil it. Huh? Another negative is when they suggest a tip per the payment app, it calculates the tip on the total bill inclusive of tax. No one wants to pay a tip on taxes. They need to correct this. After our meal was finished, we asked the server if the fish that was provided to us was salmon instead of trout and she laughed saying "there are no trout in the ocean" and that it was actually salmon. Then right before the server brought over the check, she backtracked and basically lied to my face saying that it wasn't salmon and that it was indeed trout. The food, service, and ambiance here are all great. Our server Kyle is the man as well! We always enjoy this spot.

Our bottle of wine was promptly delivered to the table but the waiter had to be asked to open and serve it. He simply looked at us with an apparent expectation that we open and serve ourselves. Our appetizers and salads were served at the same time followed almost immediately by our main courses. We suddenly found ourselves with a table of food and had barely begun our appetizer course. We were expecting a fine dining experience, not a quick in and out feeding at the trough. For good reason, proper service requires that plates be served from the left and removed from the right. Our server simply reached in front of adjacent guests to serve which was very disruptive, and never once during dining were dirty plates removed without our having to ask for it to be done. Our server was a very polite and courteous young man that I cannot fault. This is clearly a failed front-of-the-house training issue. Additionally, the front-of-the-house manager never visited our table while we were there despite the restaurant being sparsely populated with patrons. The food was okay, but the risotto bed for my "ocean trout" (salmon) was overly salty as was the broccolini. This was to have been a special occasion dining experience for myself and my wife.
