I was listening to Jamila Robinson, Editor in Chief of Bon Appetit this morning. They are out with their best restaurants issue right now, and she was asked, what is the secret to restaurant success. Her answer really made me think: "Vision and delicious food". That's it! These may be hard times for hospitality in general but so many places are thriving anyway because someone at the helm knows about vision and food. Always on the lookout for something new and different, serving a fair amount of vegetarian and vegan dishes that are delicious, I somehow found Ocado. You have to look to find a place like this, unless you live in the neighborhood. The menu is staggering. Every single item is vegan, but unless someone tells you that, you wouldn't know by eating there. This is a place especially for two categories of people: committed vegans or meat-lovers who want to make the switch. I am in neither category. I am a lifelong vegetarian who has never liked the taste of animal meats. So, I appreciated and enjoyed Ocado even though I had to search the deep menu for things that did not include simulated pork, chicken or beef. Those things are there and the ones I chose were excellent. This is a small place. It is crowded most of the time, which must mean something is being done right, no? It is mostly clean, simple, but with little extras like the movie we could watch (Three Men and A Baby), the tinkling fountain, and hefty silverware, glassware, plates and napkins. The service was attentive and friendly. Parking is easy if you go to the corner and choose one of the Public garages for a very low fee. There is also metered parking that is just a matter of luck and timing. If you go at 3 pm on a Sunday, you will have no problem parking or being seated. We chose to eat at the bar and it was vey convenient. All that is very positive. The owner of Ocado and the chef (maybe one and the same, I don't know) had vision and knows how to make everything, and I mean every single item, delicious. For example, there are sauces and cheeses that are completely plant-based. I rarely have those and these were exceptional. Delicious and surprisingly so. There is one small drawback and it is personal. This stretch of Ventura is not the cleanest, best-smelling, or prettiest. I wish it were. A few blocks east and the environment is much nicer. But, this is where Ocado lives and is doing well, from everything I could see there, with a steady stream of patrons, and great reviews. This kind of food is the future. We are not going to return to barbarian times when we had to hit an animal over the head to get protein and then doctor it up to make it palatable. No meat based dish could possibly rival the ones we had at Ocado and that is a good sign for the progress the culinary arts are making and inevitably will continue to make as they recognize their environmental responsibility. Trust me. If you want to be ahead of the curve, and healthier, you have to see what is possible at the visionary Ocado. read more

A nice surprise! My husband and I are in the area quite a bit and wanted to try a new spot. We had no idea the food was vegan! We weren't mad about it either! Parking is either street parking or there is a lot around the corner. I ended up getting the Barbacoa Beaf Tacos (3 seasoned shredded beaf in a hand rolled crispy corn shell (or soft corn tortilla) served with medium salsa verde or spicy jalapeño verde. $22... Really enjoyed the tacos, they had wonderful flavor! I did get the crispy shell and the spicy verde; which wasn't as spicy as I was expecting (a good thing!). My husband enjoyed the Carne Asada Tacos (3) shredded beaf texture, Ocado carne asada marinade, onions, cilantro. $20 Overall, staff was friendly and our waitress was very helpful making suggestions. Still plenty of meter parking or finding a parking lot nearby Appetizers came in less than 5 mins and the happy hour is a good length of time and on weekends The new mushrooms didn't taste THAT differentt than the buffalo cauliflower Entrees came less than 10 mins after the apps and i was starving! First time eating in person after many times Doordashing and Uber Eats'ing. The restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere, good service, and most importantly, the food is even better in person. So fresh, flavorful, and yummy. We tried many items on the menu, but my favorite is still the delicious Carbonara a la Fettucine, which I highly recommend. :) There are many different vegan, plant-based options. Shoot finished early, so we had time to eat and still beat the LA traffic home. Decided to check out Ocados. We were there pretty early, so before the lunch rush. It got progressively crowded and there were a lot of people eating outside. We grabbed a table inside. I ordered the tuna melt and my husband ordered the sliders. Both were great. The server was prompt and friendly. I got the original cinnamon roll to go. So glad I did. It was sooooooo delicious. Will definitely go there again and try some other items on the menu. read more

We drove down from Lancaster for an impromptu date night and sought out a vegan restaurant in the valley. So glad we chose Ocado! The food, service, and ambiance were superior! Our server (I didn't get her name) was amazingly helpful and attentive (she worked on Friday afternoon 2/27/26). Her recommendations and knowledge of the menu were on point. All servers should be like her! The restaurant was warm, inviting, and exceptionally clean. Even the bathroom was spotless. Ocado gets a 10/10!! Probably the best vegan restaurant I've ever been to! Making a reservation was easy and Brennan was very quick to respond and flexible with the multiple changes we made (sorry!). Service was great and when I tell you to order the chili cheese fries (waffle) and the lettuce cups- YOU MUST! They were incredible. We ordered the chickun sandwich (Buffalo) and the Ocado burger- both were great and so were the skinny fries! I had their strawberry basil limeade to drink and it was perfect. Loved everything about this meal. The spicy nachos came with a zesty lime crema and a bounty of perfectly fresh guacamole. The cashew cheese was rich and flavorful and was the best part of the meal. Though these are called spicy nachos, I didn't find them overly spicy. The jackfruit tasted really good and was an excellent complement to the chips. The avocado tacos were topped with a crispy slaw, which provided a nice contrast. I enjoyed the butternut squash I selected as a side. It was flavored well and a little sweet. The chocolate cake was topped with nuts and it was sweet, chocolatey and delicious. Had enough left over for another day and a half worth of meals. I was recommended this place by a cashier at Whole Foods in Sherman Oaks. As a long-time vegetarian, me and my friend decided to try out this place a few nights ago and can say I will be back! Starting with the showstopper - the food! Fantastic options on the menu and accommodating to all dietary needs. There's pay and street parking nearby, which is always a plus. The restaurant has a nice wine bar feel to it with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. It was a little cold inside. Service was okay. Our server was nice but didn't seem very happy. Went here for a special occasion celebration on a weekday around 1pm for lunch. The place is right on Ventura Blvd, and I found street parking at a meter on the next block. The restaurant had several tables occupied on their patio, and a few inside, where we chose to be seated. The waitress, who also doubled as the bartender, was very pleasant and helpful, and easy to hail when we had a question. The all-vegan food menu seems quite interesting, however, I don't like impossible burgers, and when I had the burger that the waitress suggested, I had no idea I was getting an impossible burger patty in that burger. $20 for that with fries isn't my ideal: I would have preferred a black bean or hand made vegan patty. WOW! Absolutely loved it here. Everything we ordered was delicious and would definitely order again. Staff was super friendly. They just changed ownership so they launched new items on the menu. The menu noted that pasta was served with cheesy garlic bread but our server mentioned, it "wasn't on the menu yet" but the owner ended up making a batch for us and allowing us to taste test. It was delicious! It wasn't like gooey stretchy cheesy bread which was what I was imagining, but instead, more like a garlic cheese bread which I still liked. The chimichurri fries were perfect. So flavorful. Perfectly crisp. The right thickness for a fry. The BLTA bread was perfectly toasted and sooo good. The crispy "bacon", perfectly sliced avocado and tomato, and the perfect ratio of fresh lettuce made this one of my favorite BLTs I've ever had. The penne carbonara was also perfection. My friend introduced me to this trendy vegan restaurant in Sherman Oaks. I had the fish tacos with a side of Caesar salad. The tacos were fresh and it was my first time trying jackfruit. Also tried the waffle fries which were crispy and not greasy at all. Tomato bisque was not my favorite as it lacked some seasoning like garlic. Definitely try the Fentiman's rose lemonade. If you are vegan, you should rumble here for a bite to eat. While I wish they had more dishes like their pasta or even a vegan fried chicken (without the use of corn flour, which many use) that would totally hit it out. I and my friend opened up with the giant pretzel (which is HUGE). It comes with a lemon aioli which is okay and cashew cheese which was solid. I asked for mustard, they had yellow, which was the best. It would be good to have all three. The mains for each of us was the pesto pasta with sundried tomatoes. Lots there to eat. I ate maybe a quarter, not because it wasn't good rather I'm not a big eater. The one thing I would reduce is the amount of pesto, for me it was saturated. The home made lemonade is very good. Yesterday would've been my son's 10th birthday today. But he passed away shortly after he was born I quietly ordered a piece of chocolate cake to go. And I don't like chocolate cake. But it was the only cake they had on the menu. Nobody knew why I was ordering cake. But every year I get a slice cake and I blow out a candle for what could've been. Last night I left the cake on the counter. For some reason this 10 year anniversary feels very final. At this point in my life where the option to have another kid doesn't exist anymore and there are no more "what ifs" or "could've beens" left to hope for. This morning I got up and had a bite of cake. Figuring I shouldn't let it go to waste. It was rich and moist and somehow perfect. As someone who doesn't even like chocolate, I couldn't believe how satisfying it was. I ate every last crumb. I licked the icing out of the container. And somewhere between the first bite and the last, I realized something. For ten years, I've been honoring the loss. But I've never tasted the sweetness that still exists around it. Maybe that's what this 10th anniversary is. Not pretending it didn't happen. Not forgetting him. But choosing to stop starving myself emotionally for a life that didn't unfold the way I imagined. The cake was never meant to sit there untouched. Maybe neither was I. So today, I might go back and order another slice. And this time, it won't be for what could've been. It will be for what still is. I never thought I could like chocolate cake, but it turns out I was wrong. I have spent so much time mourning that I have probably let many metaphorical delicious cakes passed me by. And I know I'm sad and emotional and dramatic right now but that cake was shockingly good. But I need more good "cake" in my life. I have literally called two friends today to tell them to try the cake at ocado. I can't promise you it will be life-changing for you, but it definitely sparked a change in me. read more

Date: May 15, 2024 The bestie came over and we were looking for an American dinner spot to check out. Was originally looking to grubhub something over but saw that O'cado was actually super close to my place so we ended up walking over. The place isn't too big but they have a lovely outdoor seating area. When we arrived there was nobody else in the restaurant so we got 1000% attention. Was seated right away, waters brought and orders taken. 1. Kids Mac & Cheese (14$) - idk what it was but both kiddos didn't touch it at all. Honestly it was really bad in my opinion but I'm also not a huge Mac and cheese fan. Normally my older toddler will eat it but he didn't like it at all. 2. BLTA (19$) - i got this one. Was pretty good and the fries were on point. Dunno why we didn't catch on that it was a vegan joint because we were both looking for the meat . Love their chimichurri sauce!! 3. Ocado burger (21$) - the bestie got this one. She said it was alright. I took a bite and it was just ehh. Salad dressing was also ehhh, tasted like grass. So disappointing 4. Chimichurri Fries (9$) - this was probably the best dish for the night. Their sauce is just MMMM!!! Overall, four stars for great service. Food wise, for us at least being big meat eaters was just a 2/5. Both of us were pretty disappointed and were hungry afterward. Sadly won't be a next time but thanks for the hospitality! read more

I've been a loyal customer here for many years and have ordered this entrée many times, which is why this experience was so disappointing. The manager's response focused on counting how many chips were burnt rather than acknowledging the overall quality issue and customer experience. Being told this dish is a "#1 seller" and has been made the same way for 8 years doesn't change the fact that this particular order fell well below the standard I've come to expect. Consistency matters, and on this occasion, it missed the mark. I also wasn't asking for a refund, I simply wanted to enjoy an entrée I know can be made well. Being offered a $5 credit on a $19 item, and being redirected to DoorDash instead of having the concern properly addressed, felt dismissive rather than customer-focused. If this is how feedback from long-time customers is handled, it's concerning. Unfortunately, this response reflects poorly on the direction of customer service here and has made me rethink returning. This was the managers response: Hello,  Sorry you were not happy with your order. This looks like 3 or 4 browned chips. The chips and the cheese are toasted before the toppings are added and occasionally a few chips will brown/toast. This is how they have been making them for 8 years and they are still our #1 seller. None of the topping ingredients are put in the toaster so it's only the chips and the cheese that might brown a little sometimes. Browning does happen occasionally and is normal. I was informed that Doordash gave you some credit. We have no control over doordash payments or credits so you must deal with them directly. If you order on our website or app we have more control over refunds.  If you choose to order again, what you can do is make a note to the kitchen not to toast the nachos but it will be different. After seeing my response this is what he emailed next: OK, well not sure what you wanted but you did get a refund from DoorDash and an apology from us. But after that review, obviously you won't come back and that's just fine. Thank you. This is really sad and you pay your money and this is the response for trusting an establishment, I don't think is good customer service. read more
