I don't get it. I feel like a lot of reviewers here may be paying more attention to this cafe's "vibe"/"atmosphere" (code for decor?) than the actual coffee and service. Admittedly, the former is what enticed me in as well. They certainly have the young-hip-indie and not-Starbucks thing going on. But the few times I've been here I found the cashiers and baristas excessively blasé and unfriendly. On a couple occasions the staff were too involved in conversations with their friends to allow me through to the counter so I could pick up my cappuccino. The coffee itself is not very good, lacking in flavor. And their pricing is just weird. This place just annoys me, bad vibes dude. I would give them 1 star but I guess I appreciate their effort to compost, and I haven't tried the food. Iced soy matcha was so bland and watery. There were large chunks of unmixed matcha bits at the bottom which I grudgingly drank. I considered asking them to remake it but wasn't sure if this is just how it is. So bad. Just go to starbucks. read more

I Love this place I literally go here once a day!!! I used to be obsessed with Starbucks till I had Real up scale yummy good coffee. The taste for the coffee here is awesome I have not gone to a Starbucks in over a year it's just not the same. I love this place and there little coffee treats and sandwiches to chose from. thank you new non-chain coffee shop in 6th avenue in my neck of the woods. This is a cute little corner coffee shop. Why frequent this one? It's green--and they make it easy for you to be green with them. The drinks (love the cold chocolate) and pastries (including savories like frittata squares) are delicious and surprisingly low-priced for the quality and for manhattan.The staff are genuinely friendly (and kid-friendly). Interesting seating options that work. O has a nice indie but unpretentious vibe to it that is unlike the rest of this strip of 6th avenue. read more

Too bad this place is right around the corner from my workplace or else I'd be coming around here much less. The iced coffee here is never good. I've had iced coffee black without cream or sugar and drank it down easily but this iced coffee is like drinking tar. Black, burnt, and bitter. With cream and sugar it tastes like watered down saccharine (I use Stevia) with a weird sour aftertaste. Even Murray's iced coffee is better and that place is a bagel shop. Sad. I would go there if I didn't have to compete with other people in line getting bagels. How hard is it for a girl to get decent iced coffee in this vicinity? Everything is overpriced here too. A medium iced coffee and two pastries run me up to almost $10. This place seems like a nice meeting spot as a sit-down cafe and I'm sure the other offerings are nice but for a quick pick-me-up this is not the first place I'd want to spend my daily coffee money. Great cafe with a Brazilian flair. Don't miss their brigadeiros and the pao de Queijo. The egg bowl is also a staple there.

I sometimes make my way over here specifically for their Pão De Queijo (Brazilian cheese bread) because they make it fresh every morning and it's a great portion size comparative to all the other spots I've hit up. I haven't tried much else, but I can say that every time I stop by, there are relatively no seats and it's always packed with customers so I'm sure the food/drinks are great! read more

Super expensive, no power outlets

I remember when this used to be a great coffee shop that people enjoyed going to. Then they put in ghetto wooden tables and got rid of the metal table and benches on the side and started serving wine and lighting candles in the evening. It seems like this place is just trying to get by now. People still come but it no longer has the right vibe to it that makes you want to stay and enjoy your cup of coffee. You also have employees that give out free food to certain customers in front of paying customers. Bring back the old table and stools and bench and maybe you'll be around for a few more years otherwise O Cafe's days are coming to an end based on what a bunch of other customers I've spoken to say. read more

Loved this place. I went with my daughter and we were both able to get chow we liked and chill out in the nice relaxing atmosphere. It is cramped but they make very fun use of the space (stools with little slits in them so they can be tucked right into the table when not in use). My girl got toast with jam and hot cocoa and I got the kale sandwich(so yummy and only 5 bucks!) and a coffee. Very friendly guy at the counter too! read more

Of all the small businesses that come and go in this neighborhood...these guys really nailed it. They obviously did their homework and their success is proof of that. First of all, it's a really cool place to hang out for all ages. It definitely has an organic/artistic vibe which is perfect for the neighborhood. The iced coffee is the best I've ever tasted. I don't know how they do it but it has incredible depth of flavor. I still miss the former Joe Jr's...but am thrilled with O Cafe. Now if only other neighborhood businesses would take notice of their success. Do we really need this many nail salons??? lol read more

O Cafe is pretty convenient if you live or work in the immediate area, otherwise there doesn't seem to be any reason to come here. Due to the convenience I've been here several times, but I try to avoid coming back. "Why?", you ask. Well, the prices for one thing. Comparable to Starbucks prices, but without the guarantee of quality control that a larger chain provides. Example: On my last visit I ordered a soy chai latte, paid my $4.40, and received a large cup of warm (not even hot) soy milk. There was no chai concentrate, and definitely no tea bag, in my cup. I guess that's two reasons: price and quality (or lack thereof). I've ordered a few different drinks, mostly iced coffee and tea stuff; I've just never been impressed. The coffee is fine, but not any better than any other decent coffee shop in the city. Another reason to avoid this place: it's usually pretty crowded. This might not be so bad if you're in love with their selection and are just grabbing a cup to go, but I like to avoid being bumped into about 20 times while I'm trying to pay for something or have just been handed a hot beverage. One thing I must say: their pastries are pretty delicious. I'm not sure if they're made in house or delivered from a local bakery, but either way they're good. I've never had any of O's sandwiches, even though they look good as well. For the money I'd rather just go to Peacefood or another restaurant in the area. read more

Awesome location and really good tea. I loved sitting by the window and watching the rain fall. Pastries were okay.

The soup was great but service here sucks! It is cold outside and they had the door wide open and the Restaurant was cold. Several customers tried to close the door and it wouldn't close and when someone asked the staff to close the door they ignored them. There are better places to spend your money. read more

This place is a cute little neighboorhood cafe with good (if overpriced) dishes and decent coffee. The one thing I can't get over is the pervasive smell in this place! It consistently smells like milk that's just gone off. Not the worst of sins, and I still pick up coffee here from time to time, but I'd be a lot more likely to stop by if I weren't greeted by this off-putting smell when I open the door. read more

This place is totally awesome. There's a vibe about it that's so totally chill and laid back and I loved my Bahia latte. The chocolate is much more bitter / smooth than most mochas but so delicious. And they have brigadeiros and pao de queijo!! And the brigadeiros are really authentic (having a Brazilian boyfriend makes me more of an aficionado now :)). Also props to the check out guy who had a long conversation w me about how pao is one of those words in Portuguese that if said wrong has a far more vulgar meaning ha. I am not one for coffee a majority of the time, but I will say this is some good coffee. I went of the recommendation for a chocolate type coffee that was the specialty of the cashier, and it was nice. I couldn't believe it. Nice spot to hang on a Sunday afternoon. Great view of the street, or to people watch, good selection of pastries and i hear the Kale Sandwich is good too. Will return, especially for the price and nice service. read more

This is my local go-to coffee shop. I like the design of shop, their coffee and the fact that they compost. They have pretty good pastries too. Their alfajores are amazing. A little overpriced, but otherwise excellent. They have a good selection of healthy food. My favorites are the fritatta and the apple muffins. Drinks are amazing. The Lovely Green Smoothie is honestly one of the best green smoothies I've ever had and keeps me coming back. Service is usually pretty friendly. Sometimes there's a line. Gorgeous interior design, feels very refreshing with lots of wood and plants. Like I said, it is overpriced though. $10 for a smoothie, $8 for a sandwich that only has cheese, butter, and cucumbers on it. Wish there were a couple of salad options. read more

Excellent coffee, but I go for the pao de quiejo. These little yucca flour balls of cheese are a mysterious little invention. I love what Brazilians can do with yucca flour. They also have gluten free cookies. And the baristas are always very nice. If you go in around the same time every day, like I do, they always remember you. read more

The staff is not friendly (except the sweet older Brazilian woman in the back preparing the baked goods). The cashier was rude, and the pao de queijo was cold and dull. When a fresh batch came out, I asked for one, and it was delicious, so make sure you ask how fresh the pao de queijo is before purchasing any.
