I went there a few weeks after they opened and was quite impressed with the quantity and quality of the food. Of course, they have the requisite American food, but having two kinds of chicken wings was cool, plus the Chinese food was great. They didn't have sushi, but they had a sign that it was coming soon since I don't eat seafood, not a big deal for me at all. The dessert selection was extensive and they had a lot of fresh fruit available, the watermelon was a bit unripe, but it was still ok. I got the Mongolian grill and it was perfect. All in all, the place is just what I was hoping for in a Chinese buffet, good food and fresh. With a name like oceans buffet and their advertisement for sushi I was really looking forward to it. There were about ten different varieties of imitation crab meat sushi and NO fish sushi or sashimi. After reading the food poisoning reviews, I may have dodged a bullet. My other Chinese buffet favorite is beef and broccoli. I have no idea what kind of meat they used. It looked exactly like beef but had the texture of fish sticks. The price is really high for the quality. When it was time to pay the 48$ for the four of us, I only tipped the waitress who only brought us our water 2$. Idk how much bringing water to me should me worth but she read the tip as soon as I wrote it. She gave me the stink eye and crumbled my copy and threw it in front of me and my kids. I bet this place is good during the day. But after 8pm... the food is not fresh and if you ask for them if there can be more they say no. The food had been sitting there so long it was tough or mushy and barely edible. The Mongolian grill guy reluctantly said he was still open and then disappeared. Left my food on the counter with my number. About 10 minutes later the bell rang. There were only 2 selections of sushi left and the outside was stiff. I know there has to be a cut off. But.. wow, I discarded a ton of food. My waiter was so busy cleaning he never gave me a refill on my drink. They should have late night pricing because I feel robbed paying full price. The food's good, but not great. I've come at normal lunch and dinner times, but a lot of the food tends to be lukewarm. It's definitely overpriced, seeing as I paid over $30 for two people. Waco doesn't seem to have a lot of options, so I'm sure it's a supply & demand tactic, seeing as there isn't another way to justify that hefty price tag for "pretty decent" food. We have been to Ocean several times now. Love this place. The only reason for 4 stars vice 5 is no Sushi. My wife usually won't even step foot in an all you can eat Chinese buffet. But she actually likes Ocean! I like the variety and have not seen cold or stale food yet. And I have been for lunch and dinner on a variety of days during the week. We especially like the Mongolian Grill. You can customize your food how you like it with the different veg, noodles, proteins, sauces and spices! I also think the staff are always attentive and on the move. Haven't had to ask for a refill on a drink once that I recall. And they have all been very polite. It's your typical Asian buffet. They do offer sushi now. I enjoyed it and gave them four stars because I think it's a little better than the competition in Waco. Been three times now and I really like the place. I find the service to be very good, the food has always been hot and a great variety. I especially like the Mongolian BBQ, it is a favorite of mine. It doesn't look like much from outside, but it's pretty nice on the inside! The food is hot and yummy. They had a lot of selections that my kids enjoyed. The sushi options are AWESOME! So fresh! They also have a Mongolian hotpot station where you can have fresh meats and veggies mixed and cooked to order. I'm giving 4/5 because there were some options that had been sitting out a little too long and weren't quite as palatable as I would've liked. The staff are sweet and quick to clean the tables. We used to go to this restaurant often when it was Vega Buffet. Compared to the old Vega Buffet, the new Ocean buffet is 10 times better every way. I don't understand the negative reviews here especially the one that says they threw up in the parking lot due to food poisoning. That's absolutely absurd. They don't even have sushi there yet because they are still waiting for the city permit so they provide 10% discount to compensate that. Vega had the same issue when they first opened but there was no compensation then. They are not skimpy with the crab legs like Vega used to be. Ocean has so many more varieties not to just fill up the space but all of the menus were carefully selected and of high quality. The foods here are amazing. All staffs are so friendly and personable. The manager even remembered exactly where he sat us 2.5 months ago. I highly highly recommend to give this place a try. Oh and their spicy seafood soup is out of this world. And don't miss to try the dinner rolls. It's so soft and moist it melts in your mouth. read more

I came here for late dinner an hour or two before closing. There was plenty of hot food still out for grabs at all of the buffet tables, and my boyfriend enjoyed what he got. Warning: there were barely any vegetarian/vegan options for those who need that. I pretty much ate steamed rice, some fruit, potato wedges, and some veggie lo mein. Other buffets I've been to have tofu, veggie sushi, and more variety of options for non-meat eaters, so that's the only suggestion I have for this place. Great variety. Great food. Great customer service. I would definitely recommend eating here to most tourists and people that live around. It has enough to where everyone can find something that they like.
