They have dim sum with carts! Rare to see carts in this day and age, so it's worth a trip for that alone if you're into it. There were some of the usual downsides to carts--some items were lukewarm (particularly non-steamed items) and the selection was occasionally limited (there were no vegetables or rice rolls [cheong fun] on the carts, so we asked for them off the menu). As other commenters have noted, it was rather salty too. That said, the flavor was excellent. Har gao were some of the best I've had in a while, bean curd was also a highlight. Spareribs, chicken feet, and fried vegetables were standard (good and unexceptional), as were the desserts. Some plates of clams unexpectedly appeared and were tasty though a bit sauce-heavy. I imagine the dim sum might be better some other places that _don't_ have carts, but hey, there's a certain fun nostalgia. read more

I don't play when it comes to this place. Every single time I'm in Chinatown for brunch this is my go to for dim sum. I moved away two years ago and came back to visit and I had to cleared out my schedule for brunch for this place. The service and cart ladies are so quick and nice always offering dishes on their carts. I only come here on weekends when they have the cart ladies (the only way to eat true dim sum) but I'm sure they offer it all the time on the menu. I love their shrimp balls, chicken feet, pork ribs, tripe and intestines. But don't let it defer you, they still offer like general tso, fried rice, noodles and stir fry for friends and family that don't eat dim sum. read more

We went after my sister's graduation and luckily the restaurant was not full so we were able to get seated immediately and the dimsum carts came up to us pretty fast. We tried their eggplant stuffed with shrimp and everyone in my family really loved that dimsum item. We also ordered some of our family favorites (clams in black bean sauce, lobster stir fried with scallion and ginger) and they were delicious. Was seated immediately on a Saturday at 11am and was surprised the place still wasn't full. Carts were already moving and we were lucky to grab a few of the staples right off the bat. Traditional Cantonese Dim Sum and seafood place with old-style round table seating and dim sum carts. Staff do speak mandarin. Ordered many dim sum dishes. Chicken feet: tastes standard. Could use a bit more sauce. Daikon cake: a bit too much starch in the cake, not enough daikon. Sear was good. BBQ Pork Bun: too little pork inside, but that was typical for most dim sum places in America. Preserved eggs and pork congee: obviously added ground white pepper when cooking, taste was too spicy. Beef meatball: taste was good. Should use some Yuba at the bottom of the meatballs; without Yuba, the meatballs easily stuck to the procelain plate. Also needs Worcestershire sauce for authentic taste. Beef tripes: good taste, not too overwhelming. Beef offals: could be sliced a bit thinner. Sauce had passable taste. Sweet seasame and lotus seed balls: great fry, not too sweet, taste was good. Could use a bit more stuffing in the inside. Shiu Mai: great, good balance of mount of pork, starch and small shrimp used. Ha Gau (Shrimp Dumplings): wrap could be a bit thinner, but the stuffing was excellent. Had several small shrimps inside and tasted fresh. Pork ribs: tasted standard. Sticky Rice and Chicken Lotus Leaf Wraps: when we ordered they seem to have been on the cart for a while, so they tasted a bit cold. But the portion size was quite generous, a lot of chicken dices and half a preserved egg yolk insde, and the taste was rather refreshing, had a bit of zest of lotus leaf in the rice as well. Overall: I would say 3-3.5 stars, the Shiu Mai, Ha Gau and Lotus Leaf Wraps remedied most of the shortcomings of other dim sum dishes. Tea also tasted rather authentic. read more

This was my first time here based on my friends' recommendation that this is the best dim sum place in Philly. It doesn't disappoint. It is a large, clean restuarant. The prices are reasonable and can be cheap when you split the check with your friends. They have traditional dim sum dishes like shrimp shaumai and chicken feet. But it was interesting that their turnip cake had taro in the middle...I wasn't too fond of the taro because it made the turnip cake too dry... I took a star off because the service was lacking. Decent Chinese food, but not the best I've had. I've come here a few times through school events. Food: They offer a wide menu of items - fried rice, egg rolls, dumplings, walnut shrimp, sweet and sour pork, the list goes on. I've only had a set menu where I didn't get the option to choose what dishes I received, but based on this experience, I wish the food felt a little more authentic rather than catered to an American crowd. I always feel a little greasy after a meal here. Service: I love the staff at Ocean City! When I go there, we always have the entire restaurant rented out and can be a little rowdy, but the staff is very accommodating and even humorous. I especially like how they don't takeaway our plates before we're finished eating - instead, they transfer our food to smaller plates so they can make more room for the new dishes on the lazy susan. TL;DR - The baked pork buns were not just the best things we ate, but they were the best I've ever had. We don't live in Philly. We live in a land where push cart dim sum doesn't exist. So this is a real treat for my kids who love the experience of getting to pick their favorite treats, as wave after wave of deliciousness is paraded past the table. I used to work on the edge of Downtown San Francisco's Chinatown. And I delved deep into dim sum during my time there. I now what makes a good har gow, and I'm all about a comforting bowl of congee... unless of course it's summer in Philadelphia, and the streets are as steaming hot as the rice porridge. So the kids and I came for brunch. We were literally the first people in the restaurant. And I was asked what kind of tea I wanted. Things were off to a good start. Once I looked over my shoulder, to see if there was a dim sum cart approaching, and a waiter who thought I might have needed something swooped in just to check. Wow. That's service. But we were there for brunch, so we took it slow. The best thing on the table was the baked pork buns, which were the best I've ever had. The pastry and the meat within were so tender, it was remarkable. Other winners were the sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf and the tofu pudding. The tofu pudding was something we saw on one side of the dining room, but the contraption never made the rounds. However, that diligent waiter was easy to wave down, and he gladly delivered us a bowl. We also had to ask for an order of the rice noodle rolls filled with a fried dough stick. It's my son's favorite thing, and I was glad they had them. However, it was one of the weaker dishes, largely based on the taste of old oil. I can't say if that was a problem with fried things in general or not, because this was the only fried thing we ordered. However, all dim sum parlors have their highs and their lows. The secret is in finding the things each place does best. And while I wasn't blown away, this was totally solid. It should be noted, that instead of waving down a vested employee at the table to settle up your tab, you just bring it to the cashier directly. Once again, many thanks to the helpful waiter. This is a solid dim sum parlor. I would love to have it in my town. Philly is lucky to have it. And I'm sure, over time, I would discover more treats that are notable. In the meantime, those pork buns and sticky rice are worth the trek to Chinatown. read more

I've never been to a dim sum restaurant, but my local guide of a friend suggested this one personally. First impression: They don't speak very much English, but then, this is the beginning of Chinatown. Perhaps I should learn enough Mandarin to be able to at least order? Thankfully in this first visit, my friend could translate everything I was looking for. Second impression: The food was flavorful and probably the best Chinese I'd ever gotten! Bao buns were a little regular, nothing too special - But the sticky rice cooked in lotus leaves was interesting and delicious, pork shumai was the best I'd ever had, and they had a strange tofu skin wrap filled with I-don't-even-know-what... but it certainly gave a new element of flavor I enjoyed! Chrysanthemum tea was a great new experience, too - I found it cute that they have sugar rocks instead of granulated, and I'm definitely buying a container of dried flowers from one of the markets after this. The flavor was light, resembling licorice at times. We had a nice little handful of goodies to take home at the end of the day, although I really wanted to stay and see what else they had to offer. She had on her airpods on at all times. She took the order, wrote it down and repeated the order back to us. My son ordered Coke, she came with a sprite. Never fixed the issue. He got fed up and drank the Sprite. My friend ordered a noodle dish with chicken, she came with containing pork. I spoke up and said she is can't have pork. She took it back to the kitchen and came back the noodles with shrimp. My friend just dealt with it. The meal was good, but dealing with her was frustrating. Servers were great on tea refills, slightly slower with water ones. Whenever I get dim sum on carts, I never know the names of what I ate, but everything tasted fantastic. One downside was that we had no idea of the prices until we finished and went up to pay, since they just circle on the receipt how many small, medium, and large dishes you ate. While I was in Philly for a week, my family made me come here to eat breakfast with them for 3 consecutive days. It was my first time coming back to this restaurant since over 15 years ago.
